My mother once told me, 'Don’t smoke cigarettes; it doesn’t look pretty when it rots your teeth.'

Thank goodness her teeth looked nice for the mug shots.

Far too many children can say they know the depths of growing up with an alcoholic mother, Iris Hawthorne is one of them. A youth filled with turbulence and tragedies in upstate New York, Iris strives most to become anything unlike her mother, Vera.

She takes her first opportunity to get away for college and heads south to New Orleans. Iris tries to start a new life, attempting to suppress her old fears and anxieties. However, without truly getting help, she finds herself shifting into a vicious cycle, not so different than her mother’s. The more successful she becomes the further her bar lowers. The land of denial paved in top shelf liquors, fancy wines, and champagnes.

Iris slips into a downward spiral, mirroring Vera’s, until the day they come together for a paramount of unimaginable events. Iris is forced to look inward and deal with the person who has antagonized her the whole time, the side she hides from the world, herself.

At last, after many years apart, the past will become present as Iris comes face to face with her mother, Vera, like a ghost made flesh. As if Iris’s skeletons could stand from the closet and walk out. She can’t imagine things getting any worse, but then again, she’s said that before.

Wow. This book was insanely good. I felt so many emotions while reading this book, and once again it brought up a lot of memories and considerations for me to think about. This book is unflinching in its look into multigenerational addiction and substance abuse. How it affects families, relationships, and a persons overall well-being. The story is presented in a way that is all too common, and explores how easily someone can fall into these habits whether they acknowledge them or not. I loved all the characters in this book and definitely found a connection with them. I especially loved Iris and each of her sisters, and exploring their dynamic. Glen as well is an amazing character, and is totally making my book boyfriends list! I am so incredibly thankful that I was sent this book to read and review. I would love to read more from Darcy Greco in the future.

One More Iris is a fictional novel by Darcy Greco that highlights the implications of having an alcoholic parent in the house because not only can it effect your present, but your future as well. The author's no holdback attitude is prominent in the story as we witness the tragedies that befall Iris one by one as she has to transition from being a child with an alcoholic parent to an adult and how that has affected not only her own body and mind, but everyone around her.
This book will make you shed tears because not only does it highlight the bad, but the good as well. What if one were to get clean? What if a single incident changes your destiny because sometimes life wants you to have a second chance. It becomes a book that will keep you engaged but will also make you wonder if done things in life are worth ruining your future. That's what this story stands for.
It's got a lot of plot twists as well that makes it more than I was expecting it to be. There's an actual plot there and not just your average "learn from this" type of story.
We get to know each character's story, even Vera's. Why she did what she did and what led her down that path and if made her seem less like a "villain" and more of someone who's just broken and wants to be fixed.

One More Iris is emotionally challenging, it's strong, it's dark and it has the potential to drain you! I am totally impressed. Iris tries to start a new life, attempting to suppress her old fears and anxieties. Iris feels like she is also walking on the same path her mother did and that's the most heart breaking thing for her, I never read a story as strong having a central theme of alcohol addiction, excess of anything is bad and so is alcohol, not just people who are alcoholic suffer but their relatives and people who are extremely connected with them biologically suffers the most, Iris has always watched her mother getting there and she feels like she is going there too, reading it was extremely heart breaking at times, it's quite gripping and thrilling, it's filled with pleasures and guilts of human heart and mind, it's brought out in a very dark way and seems like this book has the potential of being converted into a movie. It shows how one person can be the reason of dysfunctional family and I loved the slightest hint of mental sufferings.
.
.
This is a quite emotional and a personal story, I just loved the factors and I am sure it's gonna help someone who is in Iris's place but for me it was thrilling and also entertaining. I will definitely recommend it.

@onemoreiris thank you again for sending me a copy of your book. I have to be honest and tell you I had no idea what I was about to dive into, because I never read the synopsis of books beforehand. I love to go in blind.

Having said that, I probably could have prepared myself better for the depth this book would take me to. Despite what my name implies, I haven’t been drunk in almost eleven years. I love the occasional drink, don’t get me wrong, but I can’t stand the feeling of not being in control of myself. Someone I love suffered from addiction and ultimately suicide, so they are difficult topics to consume myself within.

Your book helped open my eyes a little more to the struggles that my loved one went through, and I thank you for that. It still frustrated the hell out of me watching Iris make the choices she did, and I wanted to shake her often, but it was a journey she needed to make to ultimately heal and grow from the situations she grew up with.

"Relief in tomorrow that this moment will have already passed.
Wishing, aching, yearning till then.
Waiting, just waiting. "

Darcy Greco comes swinging with her corker of a debut book that deals with underlying themes and dynamics, found everywhere yet talked about nowhere.

Iris Hawthorne has had a youth filled with turbulence and tragedies. Growing up with an alcoholic parent surely checks that box up and Iris now wants nothing but to evade this place of crisis.
So when, an opportunity knocks her door to get away for college and heads south to New Orleans, she takes it up!
Iris sets on a trip to take up a fresh start, leaving her tragedy of a past behind. But the more successful she becomes the further her bar lowers and she feels herself falling onto the same path as her mother, the one path she would have absolutely despised being on!
She finds herself caught in "the land of denial paved in top shelf liquors, fancy wines and champagnes."

This book is definitely an important read that talkes about how one can slip into an addiction, even if it's the one thing you absolutely do not plan on doing!
It deals with family dynamics and the idea of rectifying oneself as and when required.
I loved the themes that the author has tried to touch by filling the pages of this moving dark fiction up with her deceptively simple writing style and her take on the topic accompanied by her tremendous narrative voice!
Do give this one a shot, it'd be worthwhile!

•Author has done such a fabulous job, the book talks about a stage where a person gets too much splash out in drinking that he don't even realise whats happening around him.

•The protagonist of the story is Iris. She resides in New York with her alcoholic mother, Vera. Her life was filled with so many tragedies, afflictions, ups and downs that she choose a college far away from her place where she can start her new life.

Addiction is bad... no matter how it comes in your life. But running from our true self is even more bad because it ultimately leads us towards addiction!

𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝘆 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗰𝘆 𝗚𝗲𝗰𝗼 is sincerely testing, it's solid, it's dull and it can possibly deplete you! I am completely dazzled. Dreadfully numerous kids can say they know the profundities of growing up with a drunkard mother. Iris Hawthorne is one of them. A young loaded up with choppiness and misfortunes in upstate New York, All she want is to never be like her mom.

Iris attempts to begin another life by moving to New Orleans, endeavoring to stifle her old feelings of dread and nerves. But as it is said you unknowingly pave your path towards the same thing from which you try hard to run away... so will IRIS be ever able to control herself or she will be lost in liquor too? Will Iris be the new Vera? What will happen next? Will they ever confront each other & if yes.. what will happen in that moment?

This book is unquestionably a significant perused that talks about how one can slip into an enslavement, regardless of whether it's the one thing you totally don't anticipate doing! It manages relational peculiarities and amending oneself as and when required. It's intended for a wide range of pursuers, particularly for spine chiller darlings.

Do try this one out, it'd be beneficial as It shows how one individual can be the explanation of useless family! Must buy.

One minute Iris is living a care free life of a high schooler the next it is tainted forever by tragedy. She throws herself into college life and over the years that follow is the life and soul of the party. However always at the back of her mind is her drunken mother who she is nothing like and never will be. The odd blackout after a night out is normal right!

One More Iris is the debut of Darcy Greco and it is an impressive one. Greco has written a compelling story which kept my interest throughout. I loved her turn of phrase and imaginative wording which definitely added to my enjoyment of this book. The storyline may not have been the most original but the way it was told was. I don't have any real knowledge of alcoholism but the way that Iris's life was affected by it in more ways than one was subtly and realistically done.

A couple of aspects I didn't think were necessary were the itallic wording above each chapter I am not sure of the need for this and at times I skipped reading it. Also I would have preferred that we read about the present day at the end instead of interspersed randomly through the chapters as it affected the flow of reading for me. It worked well as a prologue but I was thrown when present day appeared out of nowhere a good few chapters in.

Overall I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed reading Iris's story. I am definitely looking forward to reading more from Darcy Greco.

The story revolves around a young girl Iris Hawthrone . She resides in New york with her drunkyard mother Vera, the only reason for her traumatic childhood .

She endeavours to not become anything her like mother . For suppressing her past and all her fears , she moves away for her college but finds herself walking on the same path as her mother did, the path she would have definitely despised of .
The tale is perfectly woven for the readers ,which talks about how one gets into addiction .

It sheds light on the consequences one can face if one splashes in a harmful activity excessively .

It's really a dark moving tale with the central theme of alcohol addiction. It shows how one person can be responsible for an unhealthy family and can tear it apart.

The narration flowed , which made it easy to follow the storyline .

A thrilling and entertaining novel which will definitely acquire place in your heart , don't miss this one .

Highly recommended to everyone out there , go and grab your copies.
Happy reading 😊

One More IRiS by Darcy Greco is an intriguing story. The protagonist of the story is Iris Hawthorne. The story is set in New York and New Orleans. Iris mother Vera was an alcoholic mother. She didn't want to be like her mother.

She wanted to go to a college with warmer thermostat. She was too happy when she was accepted into Tulane University, Louisiana. As Iris starts enjoying her life there, soon she realized that she is going through what Vera had. Grab a copy of this book and read the entire story yourself to go through a rollercoaster ride of Iris's journey.

Language of the book is simple and easy to understand. Cover is eye catchy and I liked it very much. Title is apt and according to the contents of the story. It is such an intriguing story that left me turning pages after pages until I reached its end.

I am really glad to read the debut novel of Darcy. Looking forward to read more books by her.

Wow....what an amazing book.
Iris grew up in a home with an alcoholic parent. Her and her sisters always said they would never end up like Vera, but the road to addiction is dark and sometimes you are further down it then you realize, and it feels too late. As Iris gets deeper into this, the things she is risking become more important. Can she stop? Or is it going to keep being One More Drink Iris....

I read this book knowing people close to me who struggled with addiction and have come out the other end; and also people who have yet to recognize a problem they might have. This book can definitely bring up emotions and be hard to read at times, but the reality of addiction isn't easy or pretty either.

If you know someone who needs help or think you yourself need someone to talk to, just remember you are not alone and there are resources out there.

One More Iris
By: Darcy Greco @onemoreiris
💜💜💜💫/5

I enjoyed One More Iris because of how real it felt to me. I don’t have much experience with alcoholism, but I feel like I understand it more than I did before reading this. Darcy Greco brought these characters to life through her writing. In this book we follow Iris Hawthorne as she navigates life with an alcoholic parent and as she slowly succumbs to alcohol as well in her adult life. The effects of alcoholism are deep and we see this in One More Iris as they effect not only Iris, but everyone she cares about as well.

One More Iris was a quick read for me. It was unlike anything I’ve read before and I learned quite a bit about alcoholism while reading. I didn’t feel a deep connection with these characters, but I was intrigued to see where they ended up by the end of the book. Check this one out if this topic interests you in anyway 😘

Recently I read the book "One More IRiS". How you will feel if you have an alcoholic parent? This was the situation with Iris Hawthorne. Iris used to live in New York with her alcoholic mother Vera. Her youth was filled with so many tragedies that she wanted to choose a far away college where she can start her new life and can have a break from alcoholic mother. The story is pretty interesting. I read it in a single sitting. I guess this is the first book that I have read revolving around an alcoholic parent so the plot was unique for me and the twists and turns in the story made it more interesting. Author's writing style is amazing and I am quite impressed with it. Storytelling skills of Darcy is something I loved a lot. It's a promising read. So, don't think twice and go ahead with it. Characters are beautifully penned down by Darcy.

➡️ The story will relate to most of the families in the world. How children feel when they have parents who are alcoholic.

➡️ The character name Iris who lives in New York city along with her mother Vera. Vera is deeply into alcohol. And, that is the reason Iris had a traumatic childood.

➡️ Iris decides to start his college far away from New york so that she can remain in no contact with his mother.

➡️ Fresh plot for me, never I have read traumatic and tragedy story.
