I realized after a while that I "read" this book totally wrong. I had no music on! So if you are going to "read" this book, crank up the volume and let the images captivate you, seduce you, enchant you...

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

The concept art book features many stunning pics of guitars, girls and rock music all melded together. The quality of the art of beautiful but it would have been nice to have seen more panels with a stronger colour palette, most of this is done in more pastel colours.

Another review suggested blasting music whilst looking at this and it's definitely the way to view it, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Queens of the Stone Age whilst flicking through the images.

This is the first art concept book I've viewed and whilst I enjoyed it, I'm glad it was only 88 pages long, any more than this and it would have lost it's impact.

Vox Gn by Matteo De Longis is a very good and colorful Rock Art Book. Would make a good addition to anybody's coffee table books. I've always enjoyed books like these that has the combination of artwork and rock. Like a book of pictures of old rock concert flyers and posters. Will be looking forward to more artwork of Matteo's in the future. I gave this book 4 stars.

:I was provided a free eBook ARC for this rock-book by Netgalley in exchange on an honest review:

Initially I was kinda confused about this book as I loved the artwork but thought that it was missing words. And then voila! I read review by Magdalena and She kindly suggested that we listen to music while reading(going through) this book and what an idea it was.

It seems as though the artwork and the pages are moving as per the music and I wasn't even listening to rock music just US-Top 50 :)

Very nice concept of imagining music with the images and colors. Loved it.

I have always loved comics, and I hope that I will always love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics or Diamond Comics or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on the international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I can. I Love comics to bit, may comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.

This was a very interesting art book, actually the first one I've ever read. I'm not an expert and I don't even claim to be one, but the artwork in this one was absolutely gorgeous.
The artist combined music, musical instruments, cars and guns with sensual women, and beautifully managed to capture their naked beauty without it becoming vulgar or sexist.
Very good choice of colours and I particularly enjoyed the images where the women ar portrayed as laying in between buldings, covering entire streets. No words can ever be said to do art favour - when it's good at least. So just give it a try and see if I'm right.

Vox is ordered chaos, a measured rhapsody.

Matteo De Longis

The Artist

*********

If you are a big fan of Country music, now would be a good time to experiment with something else.

Turn up your music so loud that the bass rattles your neighbours teeth and your neighbours 6 month old baby crawls all the way to your house and starts hacking away at your front door with a rusty axe.

Open VOX.

Experience VOX.

Close VOX, it is time to burp that baby.

There is nothing shocking in this book at all, and I am no prude, (quite the reverse in fact), nor am I as one disgruntled author called me post-review, 'a raging feminist with an agenda', however, it was a little disconcerting to see so many pictures of lolitaesque partially naked women in an art concept book that is meant to have as its core subject, music. What do multiple thin white arse's, clad in the briefest of briefs and perky chests have to do with the beauty of music and colour? Or in fact a woman with the face of a dog?

I am not opposed to the odd clothed or naked and inked rock chick now and again, but, where were the pictures of semi-naked men? They too can be lithe and beautiful and turned into objects Mr De Longis.

Without doubt VOX is beautifully drawn and that I can appreciate, but the seemingly endless repetition of arse gave me much concern that these young ladies were all going to catch a chill. Anime, manga fans will love it, but casual readers of graphic novels will wonder where the words are, was it the letterers day off? Casual readers need to look at my previous hint about the music.

PROS:

VOX really is beautifully drawn.

There are no pictures of Urthwild in her knickers.

It is one long Acid trip.

CONS:

It is not one for the feminists.

There are far too many images of women in their knickers.

There are far too many depictions of the female bosom.

There are far too many images of women as objects.

It is one long Acid trip.

Vox Gn is highly suggestive idealization of a certain gendered genre of groupie slash rocker. The artwork of De Longis is deceptively simple, layered over with gorgeous lines and color that imbue the overall collection with a retro feeling that bleeds near future cyberpunk sensibilities.

I say idealization because in this time and age, original concepts are multiplied over and over again in Baudrillardian repetition until the original is rendered mass consumed. De Longis probably draws from the women he's seen in his life, and presents them on his digital canvas as lip-biting vixens, adorned with stylistic tattoos and piercings that are less decorations than they are statements. They peer suggestively at you from lowered eyelids, and clutch musical instruments near old, fast cars while their feminine male counterparts, placed well into the background, gaze away.

The sexualization here makes me a bit uncomfortable because it's perpetuating the image that females are nothing but sex dolls in place for pleasure of men, but De Longis obviously crafts what he loves and the aesthetic appreciation there is high so it's putting a weird twist in there for me.

I have sinned the sin of digression, and now return to my original point: this volume will lie in classy punk and rave joints or cafes to be perused by living sex dolls searching for the latest inspiration to reinvent themselves.

The future is a remix of remixes, and De Longis is at the forefront with Vox Gn.

'Vox' by Matteo De Longis is a showcase of his talent. But it's an art book with no narrative or text, so it's a little hard to review. Still, the imagery is striking and interesting.

The book combines a kind of girly art with rock and roll and occasionally weapons of some kind. There are larger than life models splayed across cityscapes, or lying in a harbor alongside a submarine. Guitars as guns. Musical paraphenalia woven in hair, or among flowers. Everything seems to theme together almost like a concept album. It doesn't seem to make sense on it's own, but it all makes a kind of sense together. Music is a weapon, or the power of rock, or something.

The art is all in a sort of blander color palette, but that just helps the whole thing blend together. The art is interesting, but perhaps obectifying towards women. Women seem to be objects of desire, like guns and cars and guitars. I liked it overall.

I received a review copy of this art book from Diamond Book Distributors, Magnetic Press and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this art book.

The VOX Rockbook is a book of concept art with a musical theme. The art contains both neon and pastel color palettes, overlays, and a dreamy luster. It reminded me a bit of the Wicked and the Divine while reading it. Unfortunately, all of the girls are either naked or there are upshots of their skirts showing their underwear. While I'm all for females embracing their sexuality and pictures of cute girls, I felt like there could have been some variety and not every single picture needed to be exactly the same. Heck, throw some men or some enbies in there and mix it up a little. The art was very good and catapults you to different imagined places, it just got very redundant after a while. Best perused over while listening to some good music.

I also want to note this was put on NetGalley under "graphic novel" but it is NOT a graphic novel. It is concept art. I probably would not have requested it if it had not been labeled as a graphic novel.

Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.

** Received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. **

Reviewing this concept art book isn't as easy as I thought it would be. I did really like the art. I love music and the art really complements it, the way I see it.

However, about halfway through it I've had enough. Not because the art would become less interesting or boring but because there's a great deal of female nudity and I wasn't comfortable with it this time around. Or I would be if it was just couple cases but it feels like every other pages pictures a girl with her panties on show. And while I understand the appeal of such images, in larger number it felt really disturbing and I didn't really enjoy rest of the pictures that much.

That said, I loved the colour schemes and if anyone is a fan of half naked (hentai styled) girls, go for it.

VOX is an original raphic concept artbook that combines musical instruments, women, and electric colors.

I thought that the art styles of many of the images were creative and well executed. I do, however, have a problem with the amount of female nudity present. It was almost as if it was on every page. I wanted to enjoy this artbook but I just found myself feeling increasingly repulsed as I continued through the book.

I received this from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. If there was not as much nudity to the extent it is currently at the point of being both vulgar and sexist I would have found it more enjoyable. Also, despite the artistry being creative, the topics of sex and rock n' roll is not.

Received it through NetGalley. Here is my honest review:

Interesting art book for fans of Matteo De Longis. However, it is just another art book that objectifies women. There's only one type of woman: thin and white; naked or in their underwear. Not a lot of imagination going on there. The concept of rock n' roll and sex is over done.

His renditions of guitars and amplifiers is great. His colors are great. And the sense of fluidity is achieved in his pieces. Yet, it still leaves me thinking: it's just a bunch of "pretty naked girls" and guitars. Flipped it once, moving on.

This was a wonderful artbook! I just wished that I had it in physical form and not in digital. The concept was one of the things that intrigued me, but the illustrations have really captivated me. Matteo De Longis has created an enchanting collection of artwork mixing mostly the female body, mechas, birds, music and guitars along with the color and the design his art is very appealing. Personally (as an anime fan) I was very pleased with the content of the book, I found it inspiring and beautiful.

I got this book from NetGalley.

Vox is not a graphic novel by the common definition, but rather a beautiful collection of art by Matteo De Longis. Marketed as an original graphic concept artbook, the pages are filled with images inspired by music. If you are opposed to nudity, this book is not for you, but any true lover of illustration will enjoy this. This is definitely a great coffee book that will generate many conversations at any get together.

I received this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a nice art book, full of drawings of white girls, guitars, planes, and boats. The drawings are artistically nice, and some of them could easily be imagined as concert posters or Threadless t-shirts. I guess I'm not really the target audience for this. I could see some people enjoying it as a coffee table book.

Such stunningly beautiful artwork. It's hard to pick a fave, but there are several that I would definitely love as prints. All the lovelies. Quite a bit of T & A for the boys but it's nice to see that that is not all that the art relies on.

Wrongly flagged up as a graphic novel, this is a collection of design works with young women and their underwear pretending to know and play rock music. Some have cats, some have guns and tattoos, some have weird bird things with see-through plastic faces. None add up to anything. Waste of time.
