Quick & easy to understand audiobook for lunar living. Even if you don’t believe in moon magic, there are a lot of handy meditations & tips for self-care that could be beneficial for anyone.
A delightful, uplifting listen that gives an easy-to-follow overview of the moon cycles, and how to utilize them to improve your self-care habits. I especially loved the affirmations and quick guided meditations for each moon phase. I have a feeling this is one of those books I'll come back to again and again as I try out different ideas from it. Definitely recommend this, even if you aren't a big astrology buff. It's super practical and fun at the same time!
Ever feel like your self care needs to be in lunar cycles? Ever feel generally spiritual without going full pagan? This is the book for you, especially if you are a Basic Witch.
I understand the intent of the author even if I don't jive with it.
I recommend this for the under 25 set who love their crystals and starbucks, there is nothing wrong with that, I'm just old.
I liked this, just not quite as much as the Zodiac signs book from the same series. It’s interesting and I appreciate that all the phases were covered in detail, not just new moons and full moons. I’m going to try to remember to relisten to sections during particular moon phases as a reminder of what prompts were included.
Reflections and lessons learned: After both of my children were past the toddler stage and the ‘big care’ years, I realised that I needed to keep routine as the most important parts of our lives in order to keep things going. Not always possible of course but I realised that I’d started looking more to the weather and the sky each day to help us plan. Could we go to the park, beach or bike riding - was the weather on our side or would we just need to put on multiple extra layers to ensure an outdoor activity for health needs, or was it definitely an indoors day. Weather has much more than a dictation on the day though - fresh air and changes in weather breathe directly to my soul, and can dictate, often wholly unwittingly, my mood. Why have I not before considered the same for the moon and rest?
This book covers some wonderful concepts on the best times for more sleep and different night patterns, charging crystals and approaching it month by month in line with astrological charts - any book that sounds new age but then uses phrases like ‘dealing with sh*t’ is always a winner for me! Perhaps a little bit more revelatory than the pillow sprays that I keep trying
I listened to this on audible to try to understand what all the kids are talking about these days and it ended up being a really nice little listen. Astrology aside, the book focuses on self-compassion-based self-care using many techniques utilized by DBT, and various mindfulness practices. The book is inclusive and non-ableist, and explains the importance of not appropriating someone else’s culture.
The moon stuff is whatever you believe it to be: ancestral wisdom vs mystical knowledge vs spiritual awareness vs practical calendar keeping vs a cyclic reminder (the perspective the book focuses on heavily) to ground yourself into your own body frequently — and upon which each moon phase is a reminder to check in with different parts of yourself. Better than I expected and definitely more of a tried and true (evidence-based and ancient wisdom) self-care book than anything.
I found this book really interesting. The audiobook is short really easy to listen to while doing other tasks however, I would recommend to keep a notepad or your phone on hand because a lot of what the author speaks about is worth referencing for future.
This book goes in depth into how to use the phases of the moon to prioritise yourself and self-care. I imagine there are a lot of people out there who wouldn’t look too kindly on such a concept however, I feel as though the insights in here can be useful to anyone. Whether they believe, don’t believe or are interested or take it with a pinch of salt, there is some very practical information here.
I really enjoyed this book. I love the idea of using the moon phases. Whether the phases give you particular energy or focus I honestly don’t know but the idea of using the lunar months as check ins for self care, having a that clean slate / new year feeling more than once a year and looking toward the future for the next month - I love that idea.
And the author puts a lot of focus on doing what is best for you and your routine. The whole point is self care shouldn’t cause more stress.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I downloaded this however, I imagine this will be one of those audiobooks I re-listen to every once in a while. It’s calming, practical, uplifting and presents ideas I would love to perhaps incorporate into my own life.
This audiobook is a game changer! I’ve tried New Year’s resolutions before and I like to think I’m a goal-driven person, but I really think looking at it every month like this is going to help me a lot. Especially with self-care, I think even doing some of these things would be an incredible mood boost, let alone following all of the steps. I’ve always been intrigued by spirituality although I wouldn’t say I’m a very spiritual person. But this made me curious about my moon sign and crystals and stuff. I love the moon and find it helps me a lot in everyday living, so assigning self care to its phases is a really cool idea. I think this will also help to connect with nature by encouraging walks and everything. I appreciated how certain things were backed by science, such as colour influencing psychology, the moon influencing seed germination etc. I liked how the author narrated it, she had a calming, friendly voice. She was also very encouraging! I do think that if you were following along with the meditations, it would be incredibly rushed or you would have to keep pausing it. Something else to note is that you cannot get a physical copy of this and I cannot find a similar journal, so in order to practice these things I had to listen back and take notes. I felt so much better mentally even listening to this audiobook, I can only imagine how beneficial practicing this would be. I count this as an absolute win 👌

Solid 3.5 stars. Would likely be a 4 if it was available in book format as well.
It’s too bad that this is only available in audio. While I adore audiobooks, this should really be a book that you can revisit sections of when the moon is at a certain stage or in a certain sign.
Concerning the information on the actual lunar cycle and each section, the material is informative, inclusive, and easy to understand. The author’s outlook is upbeat and compassionate. I don’t agree with everything she says, but no astrologer or witch ever agrees on all of the particulars, so that’s ok. I think that the author did a great job.
Pretty well read by the author. Though I personally wouldn’t ever be able to follow one of her meditations as they are read (way too fast and zero spaces). She says she is going to take you through an experience, but it is basically a reading of the instructions.
This was a short audiobook about living by moon cycles. I'm an old hand at this, so it wasn't really anything I didn't already know, but it did have a bit more of an astrology focus than some other books or chapters of books of this nature, so that was different, and it's a fresh voice on the subject, who has an obvious passion for the subject. Since it is a short audiobook, there is a limit to the depth of the material, but I believe this is meant as a first look at following the cycles of the moon, and not an advanced delve into the topic. The self-care elements seemed a little tacked on, and don't really appear throughout as much as I expected, but might attract more readers to this introduction.
I’ve always felt connected during different phases of the moon. This was a great book to learn more the moon and how we’re aligned with it. I’m always trying to better myself and do more self care rituals. Taking care of myself is a necessity. I’m working on making it an everyday habit.
Things to remember:
I am the cultivator of my own habits.
The new moon - a reminder that we can always begin again.
I have the power and strength to get into the next phase.
For anyone who feels a strong attachment towards nature and the Moon in particular this book will help in understanding that relationship better. Its a light read I listened to it on Audible and its a 2hr read only. This will be the perfect book if you have just finished some heavy hard hitting books and want a break with something light. This book can give you the positive boost you need in life with affirmations and Moon rituals. Its not a must read book but its a good read.
I would like to share this fun audible I listened to and really enjoyed while cleaning up a few weeks ago by @valerietejeda It speaks about Self care, using the Moon phases, depending in what each phase represents. It also gives you a small peek on our Zodiac Moon sign and how it affects us. If you love the Moon, astrology or simply love self care, this is for you! Also I found it super interested that we both have the same last name given is not a very common one haha!
Again, Tejeda writes a book seemingly about astrology but applicable to all of us. I have been obsessed with the idea of introducing more ritual into my life as a way to promote identity and belonging, community and rootedness. Following the moon is a simple way, accessible to each of us, of adding a rhythm to our days. If you are also interested in these ideas, maybe this book is just the introduction for you!
Book specifically talk about how to look at each moon phase with positive approach.. author rightly said that every new moon is the nature's reminder to us for the new beginning. Though I am not a great believer of moon magic but few meditation tips illustrated in this book are really fantastic and can help the reader to focus more on self care and how to let go of negative energy or vibes.
I really enjoyed this audiobook, the length is just right, the narrator is excellent and gives you a cozy feeling and I enjoyed the meditations and affirmations along with all the information about the different phases of the moon. I will certainly come back to it for the meditations, every time I need a bit of self care :)
Beginner book on working with the moon for folks 25 or under with no experience. I was hoping for a fresher perspective on moon phase working through the lens of self care but there’s nothing new or interesting here for me. There wasn’t anything wrong with it it just wasn’t for me. At least it was a quick listen.
I was pleasantly surprised with this book. It was actually included in my membership with Audiobooks so I had low expectations. I really enjoyed it and there are things I will adopt. I think this book was very poignant because of the pandemic the word self-card has been flung around left right and centre. Self-care is not being selfish. It’s having good boundaries.
There’s no way I retained anything from this audiobook. I would have to have the book in front of me to even comprehend all the possibilities; of the moon and what cycle it’s in, and what sign(s) I am according to that moon cycle, and what I might be experiencing or feeling during those times. 🤯🤔😵💫🥴
This was a very nice guide to utilizing the moon to help take better care of yourself. The moon holds so much energy and learning how to utilize it is so interesting. It was a very quick listen and should definitely be included in a look-through of how to use the moon in a witchcraft practice.
Somewhat interesting information and suggestions, but the writing is atrocious. Also, the book should have been read by a professional voice actor. The author's reading further lowers the quality of the audiobook.
This was a delightful little self-care audiobook that is filled with compassion and really great, realistic self-care tips. Loved Valerie's writing style and the fact that she kept reminding us to research cultures we may be appropriating to ensure we are instead honor cultures that aren't our own.
This was included in the Audible Plus catalog for Audible members, so I figured I'd give it a try!
The audiobook is a quick listen which is always nice. This is about just what the title says - practicing self care and setting intentions based on the phases of the moon. I'm not super into astrology or anything but I was curious to give this a try. It's interesting enough. If I come away learning something, I feel like thats a success. It's about keeping yourself accountable for your own well being and knowing when you need to take a break and take care of yourself. The author suggests following the phases of the moon to accomplish this.
There are a few meditations you can follow along to throughout the audiobook, but it felt weird and went too quickly to follow along, but more just to learn and practice on your own.
This was good, nothing wrong with it if you're looking to learn a little more or find a new way to do self care. Not completely up my alley but I enjoyed it nonetheless!
Ok. Pleasant easy reading but not something I'd read again as the information was all stuff I knew. However the layout did mean I registered a few things which gave good aha"s to why things happen like they do. Wasn't a wasted read.
It reads like a textbook. The mellow voice assisted me at bedtime. May be a project in the future, right now I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. I have no idea what the moon is doing.
Definitely loved the rituals and practices that Valerie talks about for enhancing the self care routine. How wonderful it would be to energetically align oneself with the cosmos. Loved the insights and the difference take on the whole idea of self care.
This audiobook is a fun overview of moon phases & signs, and how they can be used to enhance your life. It was fun & interesting, but one would definitely want to use this book for reference. A hard copy would be better.
