With his first case in Stone County under his belt, former big city detective Dan Cutter is settling into rural life. While enjoying an early spring afternoon on the river bank, he makes a stunning discovery. Within hours, the entire Stone County Sheriff's Department becomes embroiled in a search for the truth that is missing on the river.
John Dalglish has become one of my foremost favored authors, and 'Missing on the River' solidifies that. I won't rehash the plot; other reviews tend to do that, so I'll focus on why I enjoyed 'Missing on the River.'
It is short, but that's because there isn't a lot of filler that adds nothing to the story but blabber. It moves at a steady pace. I wasn't bored at any point while reading it.
Dalglish's books are clean, no sex or innuendos of sex, no foul language, no sensational violence, just engaging reading.
The Stone County Justice series, like Dalglish's, Jason Strong, and City Murder series, satisfies my appetite for suspense without the sour taste of unclean filler or being with the times in most books today.
if you like clean suspense, you'll like 'Missing on the River
This is the second book I have read in this series. It was very interesting and held my attention throughout. A clean read which you don't usually find in these types of police investigations. I never suspected the actual culprit until the final chapter and it was still a surprise, I had only a slight niggling of doubt which atests to the well written plot.
The main characters are realistic and believable in carrying out their duties with just enough red herrings to keep you guessing. A minor quibble is I would have liked more follow up on what happened to the culprit after the arrest and also if they acted entirely alone. But still a very Interesting and intriguing read. I will definitely be looking for more books by this author.
Dan is out on the river when he discovers an injured woman on the River Bank and she is loaded into an ambulance she says look for her husband. In the search is on for her missing husband twist and turns to lead the investigators in all different ways.
This author is very gifted. He brings a good investigation and keeps the reader hanging on every word! And there's no foul language, no sex scenes, and a wonderful who-dun-it! John Dalglish keeps the reader riveted from beginning of book to the end! And then one can barely wait for him to finish writing the next one!
What a gripping book so many suspects loved it never expected the ending so glad you told me it was out could not find it on my kindle at first I recommend it to everyone and all of your other books Dorothy Schaefer
I chose the rating because it's true and I have come to realize that this is how he lives his life. He is a truthful person and I believe that's one of the reasons I enjoy his books so much.
I just finished book2 and I really enjoyed it. I enjoy the books because it a clean read with slot of mystery to the end. I will be waiting on book 3.,
Really enjoyed this & the first book. Semi familiar with the setting as we have vacationed in the area for many years. Likable characters. More please!
I like the character Dan he just kept searching for the answers. He knew he was missing something. This book is a great book to read when relaxing on a cold day.
I find that I am really enjoying this series. For a beginner in this genre, the story line is not so complicated I stay confused, yet the outcome is clear.
First of all, I have to mention how delightful it is to read a book with humorous dialogue..... thank you for the quick wit between the characters. I have to admit that you created enough suspicion of several characters, that I was pleasantly surprised to realize that I was totally off-the-mark when the true villain was finally uncovered. As usual, nice work Mr. Dalglish.
