This is a short book. It was an okay read. A person needs to be familiar with music terminology. I am not. The book mentions reading their other book to get familiar with the terms and concepts of music and what makes music. However, I would have like to have a slight taste of what some of these words mean. Therefore, the exercises were boring to me. I mentioned in the other reviews the book cover needs to be jazz up to entice someone to book a book by an unknown author. I only give this book 3 stars out of 5 stars for it at least the ending give some heartful advice and not sugar coating. I received this book free in exchange for an honest review. 🇺🇸🐾
Next in the series of Forslund Music's teaching guides, HARMONY FOR BEGINNERS leads readers through the theory and practice of learning to compose harmony in music. To understand music is the first step to appreciation, and these guides are useful in that direction. I particularly enjoyed learning about the differences in Western music from music in other parts of the globe, and about how Renaissance music composition relied on cultural and societal values and so widely differs from contemporary music perception.
This will not teach you harmony but give you a simple explanation. I was very disappointed. if you need to understand better harmony better to look for a book that explain it with exercices not only vague explanation like this one.
Book definitely provides some valuable information. It offers some example exercises which is useful for those who just starting out in music. I think it’s an excellent resource of information.
