It took only one summer to save a beach house and turn Carrie's perfectly planned life upside down.
It took Jen and her best friends Carrie and Faith all summer to save the beach house. And none of them could have realized how much it would change their lives.
Jen's making a new life for herself in Newport, facing new challenges and new relationships. The beginning of the school year calls Faith back to her kindergarten classroom while she tries to juggle that and her job at the boutique.
But Carrie—Carrie's life is about to be turned completely upside down when the stepdaughter she thought she'd lost forever turns up on her doorstep. And as she navigates life with a teenager and her own mother is no help at all, she counts her blessings that she has Faith and Jen to help her through in this heart-warming story about mothers, daughters, and all the joys and challenges that go with them.
Stop by the Newport Harbor House in sunny southern California, have one of Nana's muffins, and catch up on what's happening.

I love book series about friends etc and getting to know the characters and this book has a great group of characters, but once again tons of editing mistakes, and things that didn’t make sense etc. The biggest being that in book 1 the summer house belonged to Jen’s Mom’s family, her Mother bequeathed it to her and her brother when she died. It appears, from book 1 that her mother had been gone ‘a long time’ (there are also quite a lot of vague time references throughout both books. Now her grandmother was obviously gone before her mother for her to be able to bequeath the house, yet in book 2, even though the family have used the house every year, Jen is just now getting around to sorting out “Nana’s” clothes etc! In book 2 Jen thinks about “Nana” who lived in the house for over twenty years etc, but now she’s her Dad’s mother! There are many mistakes like this and sometimes it hard to follow, and it’s hard to actually picture the house as by the end of book 2 it appears that the front “porch/deck” is where they all gather for their meals together whilst the BBQ is around the back. However I shall have to buy book three as I want to see Faith’s story.
What a great afternoon read! Three longtime friends spending time in Newport Harbor, living, loving, cooking and walking Daisy. Call it mid-life crises or not, but these gals lives have all taken different roads - meaning some divorced or widowed and mainly alone as they begin with new challenges. This is Book 2 and can be read as a stand-alone as the author does a wonderful job of making sure the reader knows all the pieces of the puzzle of lives. I loved the teenage angst that we all know; I admired the friendships and new acquaintances; and, I felt the hugs of family. Of course, there is Rob who lends a whole new meaning to “ex” and why he is that. Thanks to the author for a grand story.
Another good book in the series! It's a heartwarming & moving story about 3 best friends that have known each other forever. This summer, their taking walks on the beach, spending time together on the deck catching up. Enjoying time with family, friends, & neighbors. Carrie, had raised her step daughter since she was a baby. But life changed when her husband had other plans. Not having contact for so long, & seeing Bethany again at the Gala, she co-chaired, Carrie, hopes they can repair their relationship. A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE!!
A group of women who live close to each other on a beach resort and who share a long friendship. Carrie sees her step daughter Bethany at a function who she hasn't seen for years as her ex and Bethany's father didn't think it was a good idea for Bethany to go back and forth with custody arrangement. She kept emailing and calling to no avail so was surprised when her ex called to say they were dropping Bethany off for a month whilst he and current wife went on holiday. Can they repair that bond? Friends to the rescue
Writing about the struggles of different kinds of relationships isn’t easy, but I think you hit all the emotions about being a parent or an ex, or a young adult.
Definitely a better ending than the first book! Thank goodness Ms. Caldwell learned to actually wrote an ending, and if you like the characters enough, which I do, you'll go on to read the latter books... No trickery required!
I could not put this book down from the moment I started it. Had to know how it was going to end and hoped it was how I wished it would. On to the next one!
I love this book especially since I’m reading them in order. Seeing how each person grows in they’re own right. A must read if you want to read about older people and see how they enjoy life
I really enjoyed this book once I got into it was hard to put down Very easy to follow Carrie and her friends at the Beach House and happy with the ending! A feel good book
Another great read that follows another key character as they struggle with a family problem. The book is very engaging and well written. It is a comfortable and quick read... highly recommend these series of books and got the 3rd book to keep going.
As a mother of two daughters i could relate to the happenings in this book. So glad I'm in good company. Enjoy your time reading this book. It is well worth it!
Good book for anyone who has or wants to have a daughter. Love the friendship’s in this book. It is wonderful to have friends and to grow old together. A nice easy read.
I enjoy the way problems are raised with friends supporting each other and resolved in interesting ways. Very creative. The pacing is good and am enjoying reading about the California lifestyle.
