"Amazon Reviews for Books" by Dale L. Roberts, has very valuable information for authors. The information would be most beneficial for new authors. The book explains how reviews are helpful and how to go about gaining reviews in ethical and legitimate ways. This book would have been very helpful for me to have when I first started to publish books so I could have avoided some of the mistakes that I made in the beginning. The author shares some of his own mistakes to shed light on things to avoid when seeking reviews.
The book is fairly short, so it is quick and easy to read. The chapter headings are pretty neat because they are made to look like search bars. There is a little humor in the book, which adds a nice touch.
While the book would be most beneficial to new authors, I found it to be helpful as an author who has been publishing books for several years now. The book serves as a reminder that we always need to market and promote our books. We can't just sit back and relax and expect our books to get noticed. The book also gives advice about receiving "bad" reviews. There are also additional resources at the end of the book to help with reviews.
Disclosure: I received an advanced reader's copy of this book. I am voluntarily sharing my review to help others make buying decisions.

Good, but not outstanding.

The information in this book was a great reinforcement for me, but I learned little. Still, I recommend it, especially if you're new to the world of book publishing. It doesn't matter if you're self-published, hybrid, or traditional; you may learn something from Dale.

This is definitely one of the books I was waiting on once I found out about it, and I can say upon finishing it, I found great value in it. The content itself is five stars, but I found one problem I will disclose soon. This book is part of a three-part series, and after having purchased and read the first book in the series, “Amazon Keywords for Books: How to Use Keywords for Better Discovery on Amazon,” I didn’t know what to expect at all with this one. I was actually taking a gamble buying this.

That first book, I felt it had the potential to be something great. Based on the title alone and the hype behind it, I expected to learn the number one secret “I” wanted to know when it comes to keywords and selling my self-published books on Amazon. Unfortunately, I feel it never revealed that secret I needed, and ultimately I thought it was very underwhelming. The information wasn’t presented as concisely as I wanted it to be. I gave it three stars merely because I thought it presented some information that could be of use to a “newbie” that’s completely in the dark about self-publishing. It meant almost nothing to me personally, and I felt I wasted a good $14.99 on that physical copy. I thought it would be “the book” that I let my author friends and my friends’ friends read, but on the shelf is where that one will stay. Not taking that chance again, I just bought the eBook this time around.

When I became aware of the second book, “Promotional Strategies for Books: How to Market & Promote Your Book,” and this, the third book simultaneously, and knowing Dale and how great his YouTube channel is, and the value he already has given me through that, I knew I needed to give him another shot. There’s no specific order you need to read these things in, so I thought about which of the next two books would be of the greatest benefit to me, so I bought the third book before the second.

Let me not keep you all waiting on why I gave this four stars instead of five. I feel the way he released them all is very cash grab like. Power to Dale for knowing how to make money. But it rubs me the wrong way. He probably completed one major book in his writing sessions, and he split it into three, knowing he could hold them back for release and milk more money out of it. I feel that way because the time frame in which each subsequent book was released after the one prior was just too close. If you bought all three physical copies separately, it would set you back $50.00! That’s grossly overpriced. This should have been just one book for a reasonable price of $25-$30, point, blank, period.

Now let’s move on to why I like this book. It is what I expected it to be. A very thoughtful and tactful reference guide to helping you get more product reviews on Amazon without jeopardizing your account, brand, and fine name trying to do so in the process. There is a methodical way to go about doing it, and it’s probably not the way you’re thinking of. It’s very well laid out and presented. It’s possibly fool-proof. It might be fair to say after the read that if you’re not doing it this way, you’re probably doing it the wrong way. Really there is not a skippable page in here. You’ll have to go over it a few times and mull over it to make sure you don’t miss a beat, and you get the most impact from following the guidelines.

Just one way I received some return on my purchase of this book was through information learned. My hardcover books are expensive to me personally, and it was starting to cost me a fortune to send out a physical copy to everyone under the sun to get them to do me a solid/favor. I should save those for the top influencers, YouTubers, and such where the reach is long, and it would promise some return to me for them showing off my highest quality product. The people lesser than that should be relegated to just a PDF or eBook. There are no promises or guarantees anyone will do anything for you, but Dale tells you tactics that will give you more of a fighting chance of them doing you a favor.

Aside from that, it’s hard to tell you much more without me retyping out his book in parts or full here. You’re just going to have to take my word for it and buy it. But there is a multitude of reasons why you need it for the many things you will learn.

Need Reviews?
Well, who doesn't? This book is a great guide to helping you get the reviews you want and need. It's a well-written, step-by-step series of methodologies and avenues that can increase your chances on getting those reviews.
I discovered a few avenues and ides that hadn't occurred to me and will be actively putting them into practice. The message being: no matter how long you've been in the self-publishing arena, there are always new things to learn.
Don't pass this book up if you're struggling to get those reviews. There are, however, 2 points you need to keep in mind:
1. Does this book guarantee you'll get reviews if you do everything it says? No. Why? Because no one can predict the actions of another. But…I can almost guarantee that if you do none of these things, any reviews you get will be few and far between. I know…it's happened to me.
2. You have to do the work. Yes, this book walks you through everything you need to do, but you have to do it. It takes time and effort, and like everything else, you'll get out what you put in. The book is a great guide, but it's not going to do it for you.
Bottom line: You need reviews? You need this book!
I was given a free copy in return for an honest review, which is what I have given.

If you're afraid of reading a book that will remind you the things that you should be doing to be successful, then don't read this book lol. Dale Roberts gives it to you straight about how to go about getting more reviews. From scheduling a newsletter, to including call to actions at the end of your book, to contacting websites or interacting with groups, there are several options to explore, though you will have to put in the leg work. For me, it was a hard reminder that I'm way past due on a ton of things. In others, I was surprised that some things I'd done right via intuition and how bad I've botched other things that should be remedied. Definitely a book to re-read and put tabs and start a fresh new list with all the things you need to get doing.

A fantastic guide for new and experienced authors seeking advice on how to gain reviews.

The resources and tips provided by Dale L Roberts in Amazon Reviews for Books is something all self-published authors, and really anyone looking for additional information about amazon reviews should pick up.

My eyes were opened wide with new ideas and a deeper understanding of the importance of reviews as it applies to Amazon. Especially how your decisions can have a positive or negative impact depending on which path you travel down while asking for reviews.

The 'don't even go down that route when asking for reviews' advice has the potential to save authors from serious complications and needs to be taken seriously. It's like a close friend giving you all the good, bad and ugly parts so you don't make the same mistake as those before you because really, the consequences are not worth the immediate rewards.

I've created myself a new republishing checklist which includes tips taken directly from this book. I will continue to follow this author for new advice and tips in the future.

I've followed Dale on YouTube for years and found his content to be useful, free of fluff, and fun to consume. This book was exactly what I expected from him. The advice is clear, the methods are straightforward, and as always he provides lots of great links to resources and does it all in an entertaining way.

My only critique is that this book reads like a transcript of his YouTube videos, so if you don't like that kind of stream-of-consciousness narration you might find an issue with the repeated phrases and recurring statements. That said, the editing and proofreading were solid, so the book is free from typos.

I gave this 5 out of 5 stars because it provides a clear set of action items for getting more reviews. I'm currently using some of these methods because I learned them from his videos, but a few approaches were totally new to me.

Bonus: this book contained links to two other permafree books by the author.

This is a very useful book for authors on how to go about getting reviews for a book. Unlike many other ‘how to’ books, this book is concise, omitting much of the padding that is found in similar guides. The author has a friendly style and gets his points across with minimum fuss. Reviews are a critical component of an author’s marketing strategy, particularly if you self-publish, and compared to the costs of FB, BB or AM adverts, the cost of this book is almost irrelevant. There is no magic solution to marketing, you must put in the resources (research, production and money) to get results, and this book is a great help with the research. In other words, the book will give you excellent suggestions on actions to take. Highly recommended

Get more reviews

Dale adds humor and experience to this book which makes it an easy read compared to other mundane self-help books. I loved his references to his favorite taco restaurant so much that I made a trip just to try them out.

I was looking for a book to help me receive more reviews, and I wasn’t disappointed. I learned what an ARC team was, I learned how to look at my reviews and learn from them, and more about Amazon’s algorithm and why it’s not good to ask family and friends to leave a review.

If you are self-publishing, I recommend reading this book.

An easy read with clear actionable steps to take.

Dale uses humor and just the right amount of anecdotes to get his point across. I found myself taking lots of notes while reading, imagining how I'd implement his advice. From insight into how Amazon works, to the proper tone to take when cold contacting, this book is a must have for new indie-authors who want to fairly get honest reviews for their books on Amazon.

This book is the third in a series. Based on my experience, I'll definitely be going back to read the others... and review them, of course. :)

For the author out there! You should read this book if you want to understand how to successfully use reviews for your book launch and post-launch marketing. Reviews are only a part of the job as an author (especially if you are a self-published writer) but Dale Roberts covers greatly this part and he goes straight to the point. If you have missed the other books of the series be sure to check them out.

As a new author who is working on gathering reviews myself, this was a great resource! Some of the information I already knew from my own research or from listening to Dale's podcast, but there were quite a few things I didn't know. Having a better understanding of what Amazon considers an unbiased review—which seems simple in theory, but it is not!—will really help me going forward. I especially like how Dale offers concrete examples to accompany the stats and facts, and I appreciate how he's humble enough to share his own mistakes to the benefit of his readers — er, listeners.

I don't usually listen to audiobooks (I have a very short daily commute!) but this book was set up in short, easily digestible sections, so it was easy to pick up where I left off without missing much. This is a great resource that I will definitely reference in the future.

I received a complimentary audiobook copy from the author and am leaving this review voluntarily.

P.S. From a fellow Columbusite... I also love Condado's! :)

Excellent resource for indie authors to understand reader reviews

Knowing how to get honest reader reviews is an important skill for self-published authors. Unfortunately, it's not a topic that is covered often...or in depth.

This book absolutely fills that gap.

Some unique elements I appreciated about this book in particular:

* The author covers different kinds of reviews (reader vs. editorial, serving different purposes)

* You learn how to guide readers to leave a review (with a helpful call-to-action inside the book; author discusses exactly how to do that)

* What it takes to build an ARC (advance reader copy) team and how to manage that

* How to actually respond to reviews for maximum engagement and professionalism

Highly recommend to any author, independently published or otherwise, who wants to build their author brand and credibility with a steady stream of honest reviews.

The endless quest for reviews is a soul-crushing venture, and I've read various related publications that left me more frustrated than when I started. However, in the case of Dale L. Roberts, I get a sense there is an extra spice to his advice. For starters, his writing style is humourous, which we authors desperately need during such dire times. Furthermore, his content was up-to-date, unlike so many others in this vast topic pool. But most importantly, I reached the end with an extensive list of things I'd never tried before, which excites me. Of course, only time will tell if his words work or not, but for now, my primary disappointment lies exclusively with myself for not reading this publication much sooner.

I read Amazon Reviews for Books in under an hour and gleaned incredible value. Dale Roberts emphasizes that “social proof is almost a necessity,” and he’s absolutely right. After its initial surge, my debut release dwindled in sales, primarily due to a lack of reviews. I regret not knowing about legitimate review sources sooner. Thankfully, Dale’s insights equip me to ensure a stronger, more durable launch for my next book. Highly recommended for indie authors seeking sustained success!.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I'm a writer. I've published books on Amazon for years but can't seem to get any reviews. And I've tried almost everything, but failed miserably. This audiobook pretty much tell you how to get amazon reviews, but unfortunately, I did 90% of them and got poor results. But Dale does give me a couple of ideas that I have not tried and I might give them a go. The book gives you good advice and I would recommend it to newbie writers who want to get their writing career started.

Excellent read for a confusing topic

This book did a good job in explaining the quite detailed program of book reviews. The author obviously has a lot of experience in this area and he does a good job of fully explaining the complicated process of acceptable book reviews. I’m glad I read it.
