Genre: ?? suspense/mystery/romance with elements of paranormal
Standalone/series: stands alone but part of a companion series
Cliffhanger?:
Cursing?: not a lot but present
Descriptive Sex?: yes
Descriptive Sex Between H/h With OW/OM?: No
Contains Cheating?: No
Overall Chemistry: High
Overall Couple's Rootablity: High
HEA/HFN/etc Ending:
1st/2nd/3rd Person: 3rd
Character(s)POV Spoken: dual

Any Triggers/Warnings: Minor, but the main character had a relationship in the past that turned into an unhealthy relationship when the guy turned possessive and emotionally abusive over time. Apparently the relationship ended after there was the inevitable physically abusive event. Nothing is described in detail but is used rather to show how the heroine never wants to go back to being the meek and mild person she became during the relationship. Also, there is some mild mirroring in events with a ghost that is present in the story and trying to tell her story so she can pass on.

Overall Rating: 4 to 4.5 stars
Would You Read More Books By This Author: Yes, I plan to try another book in this series when it goes on sale
Safety Gang approved? Yes, however, of note- the hero has in his past obviously had his share of females though it isn't shoved down our throats or overly described. It's more that he is scared he'll become his dad and thus has avoided serious relationships. It is said that he'd gotten tired in the last year of the shallowness of the whole dating scene (or at least the way he'd done it) and stopped even really "dating". There are moments when he is a reluctant hero because he doesn't want to let the heroine down but it is never taken too far so I did not find it frustrating.

My review
I wasn't sure how high to rate this book because I really enjoyed it much more than I expected. I'm not sure if I'd read books more similar how it would compare but it really hit the spot for something different. Maybe I'm short changing it by only giving it 4 stars but I docked a star for having 2 aspects that usually I don't enjoy as much even though they didn't bother me here. For one, I don't usually like the hero who has only hooked up casually until the heroine but I thought that there was enough in the book to justify a change for the hero. Both his getting tired of only having shallow relationships and desiring something more before even meeting the heroine and the way things play out helped me to believe in him. Secondly, I'm never one to enjoy descriptions of love scenes with "feasting" on lips (makes me think of cannibals) and "pooling" heat used as descriptions (at least the word "moist" was not used). This is overly harsh but since I wasn't totally connected to the way the physical love scenes were described I decided the most accurate thing would be to dock a star. These things didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story however.

This book was on sale and that is why I took the chance on it. I'm quite a hard sell when it comes to books these days, even for a dollar. The high reviews and the unusual description convinced me to to spend my precious dollar. I'm glad I did because it was just the something a tiny bit different that I was looking for in a book. There is still a good bit of romance to drive the story forward but it doesn't rely on that to drive the plot. A large part of the plot has to do with the Hero's "haunted" house and the story that comes out of that. It kept the developing relationship from becoming too angsty. Those people who want a totally realistic book should look elsewhere, There are ghosts, psychics, and those types of elements throughout the story. If you can enjoy a story with that then you might give it a try.

I really enjoyed the heroine. She's a little geeky but not overly done to where she turns into a caricature. She's smart and brave and kick-butt with enough faults to make her human and lovable. She's got a bit of a snarky side too. The hero, as I've mentioned, has his moments of being a reluctant guy in the relationship and has his share of faults. They didn't get in the way of me liking him and rooting for him though. He's not as strong as the heroine for me but I liked him with the heroine so it worked. In general I think the author did a good job of giving me a good feel for the characters and making them feel real with plenty of plot and action. I never got bored reading the story. I definitely want to read more by this author. Not sure of the $7.00 price tag for a kindle book for the rest of the series but if they ever go on sale I'll buy them.

One last thing to note. I have not read any books prior in the series and it did not hamper my enjoyment of this one. Obviously I would have been more familiar with some of the characters mentioned in the book if I had read the prior books which I would have likely enjoyed. Still, it seems you can pick up a book in this series and read it as a stand alone or out of order if you so desire.

*Copy provided as part of blog tour*

My first read from the author and definitely not my last! Looks like I’ve found a new favorite author.

One mornight after finishing a book, I’ve decided to look for another story to read. Still hyped about reading but choosing a book out of a hundreds can be quite difficult. Hello, bookworm problem! Anyway, there is this really pink book that stood out on my kindle library and I’ve remembered that I am part of the blog tour for this book. Haha!

So, I’ve started reading Spirited Away right then without remembering the synopsis of the book — all I know is that is it a romance .

Starting the story, I was actually taken aback with the heroine’s name/nickname. I mean, SPIDER! Who names their main character after an 8-legged, creepy animal? Well, Angela Campbell does. But Spider can definitely kick-ass! She is cool, amazing, knows-what-she-wants heroine. Now, when it was revealed why she is “spider”, that’s when I know that the author is a genius. Emma is Spider!

Noah West – the new guy next door. He is one hell of a guy. He is hot and cool at the same time. I love him for Spider.

Aside from the humans, I was really entertained with the 4-legged friends. It was an interesting mix, 2 dogs – one who is blind plus one cat. They are the ultimate house pets to take care of. I love how they made Emma “entertained”.

The story is amazing. As a reader, I was easily hooked from the characters and story. I can easily imagine everything and I felt that I am part of the story. I was actually spooked and laughing as I read this book. Spooked on how the author describes the “supernatural” things. Reading the book at 1:00 AM with the lights off – I don’t know if this is a good or bad decision on my side. And no, I did not stay on my room that night. I chose to sleep at our living room with the lights off. Laughing because of Spider + pets. Gawd, they are the ice-breaker.

Aside from the supernatural treats in this book, another thing to love is the mystery involving the story. It keep me guessing until the end. I also love on how connected it is to the present — okay, this sounds vague. Just read the book!

Overall, I love the book! It is amazing. After stalking Angela Campbell, in a harmless way, promise! I found something even more amazing. She has written an added epilogue on the top of the epilogue! It is posted on her site which can be found HERE

To Angela Campbell, you are amazing! I love you and your story! Now, I am definitely reading the first two books in the series. You are already amazing-amazing in my book, but you have top it off with this post here on goodreads!

Wohooo! Connor’s book! Thank you, thank you and looking forward to Connor’s book! You are amazing-amazing-amazing!

To, Mary of Between the Sheets Promotions, thank you so much for this opportunity! It was really great working with you. Keep up the good work! Amazing!

PS: How many times have a I used the word amazing?! HAHA.

This book had something of a rocky start for me, as I immediately loved our heroine Emma/Spider in all her quirky crankiness…AND was a bit put off by her flightiness. From the very beginning she reads as somewhat younger than her twenty five years, and her seeming ability to develop a crush on every male she comes into contact with was odd, and more than a bit out of character for how she is in the rest of the novel. I’m all about finding yourself, but that doesn’t necessarily equate to teenage rebellion, and that is where her character almost goes wrong. I believe this aspect of her personality would have greatly benefitted from a little more finesse and subtlety.

One of the things I really liked about the story was that both Spider and Noah begin the book thinking that they know who they are, while in reality they are each a little lost. And that they gain surety and confidence in themselves, and each other, not within the romance aspect, but through working together.

Despite the fact that this book deals with one couple and comes to a satisfactory conclusion, it doesn’t really work as a stand-alone, as it sort of assumes that you already know all the background characters and how their relationships work. This is fine, as it IS a series, but it would have preferred to know that before I jumped into reading book two. The story also ends a tad mysteriously, I assume, as a set-up to the next book. Don’t get me wrong, this is not a cliffhanger, more just loose threads meant to weave the series together.

The are multiple plot points to this story that can be a bit confusing, though they come together fairly well. My one issue was with Spider’s ex-boyfriend drama. It made sense for the storyline, and it helped us to get to know who Spider is, but then it just seemed to go nowhere.

In the end, this story is a decent mystery, cute, kitschy, sweet, and just a teensy bit spooky. Honestly, it’s sort of a mash-up between Scooby Doo and traditional romance, which, depending on your perspective likely either sounds horrible or awesome to you. Myself, I’m leaning toward awesome, and looking forward to grabbing a copy of the first book in this series.

For the sake of full disclosure it must be stated that I received this book, free of charge, from Netgalley.

Spirited Away by Angela Campbell is an good romance novel with healthy dash of humor, spooky ghosts and thrilling criminal mystery.

The heroine Emma/Spider is a computer nerd, who works for private investigation company (they also do some "ghost-busting" stuff) and she is house/pet sitting for her boss, who's on his honeymoon. She has kind of hard time at start with the animals (they are used to the master/slave who can read their mind :)) so they do a number on her to let her know their feelings. But then she meets this hot guy across the street and sees a ghost and ...

The hero is Noah, "private investigator" who has been hired to collect a data on Spider's boss, his wife and his sister, to prove that their "physic" stuff is all scam. But once he has met Emma he can't get her out of his ming, even if he has convinced himself that he is not suited for long term relationship since his father has been a really bad example and he's afraid he takes after him. But this house he has rented to follow his target has other occupants who don't really want him there, especially since he has unknowingly brought his own companion with him. So when Spider sees the woman and things start to happen also in her house ...

Deem, this story was so spooky sometimes that I was not ready to push my toes out from under my comforter, but it's not only ghost story, it has a lot of sweet love stuff and criminal investigation and tons of fun moments as well. I have a feeling I will find time to read the previous stories as well.

A good read!!

Every now and then I’ll come across a book which reminds me exactly why I love reviewing so much – and Spirited Away was one of them.

This sexy, funny romance is a treat and its supernatural side makes it all the more unusual. Spider has been hurt in the past and is determined to make her way independently in the world as a grown up. Unfortunately all the fit guys at work see her as a little sister, as she’s a very young looking 25, especially given her propensity for dying her hair outrageous colours and wearing sloganed t-shirts.

A real computer geek, Spider agrees to housesit for her boss and look after his pets while dabbling with her laptop. But strange things start happening in the house that gives Spider the shivers. And she doesn’t think that her quick heart rate and sweaty palms are entirely caused by Noah, the mysterious but drop dead gorgeous guy across the street. Can he help her understand the things that go bump in the night…or maybe do a little bumping of his own?

Thrown together in hilarious, spooky, and ultimately fascinating circumstances, Spider and Noah are a fantastic leading pair. I want to be Spider’s friend – she’s sassy but down right adorable, while Noah is the perfect knee-trembling romantic hero. That said, it was the ghostly side of things that swung the story for me. Brilliantly conceived and executed – I will personally haunt you if you don’t pick up this book!

Noah I love how he reassures Emma on certain things, "a woman's boobs can never be too big. Trust me on this." Emma may be bada** but she has a vulnerable side and I'm kinda glad we saw that, "why don't you go home and get changed? Make that call you wanted. Maybe you can come back later? Help me go through these boxes?" He didn't want her to stay? Feeling hurt by the implication, she nodded. She wasn't clingy, so why did his dismissal bother her so much?" I loved how Noah was upfront, "this might sound crass, but I would really love to lose myself in you for a while. Forget about everything in my effed up life and soak in your warmth. Will you let me do that?" I really enjoyed reading this book, and I think I may go back and read the other two books in the series.

This is my first book by this author and I absolutely loved it. A tough but vulnerable heroine with lots of crazy situations and a very hot neighbor that always seems to catch her at her worst. They end up thrown together as they face paranormal events. This provides plenty of humor and mystery. Laugh out loud funny, but totally engaging mystery.

I can't wait to read more by this author - she is now on my must read authors' list.

This was a very cute book, more of a mystery than I expected going in, but I really enjoyed it! I liked that the heroine was a smart hacker type, and her t-shirts cracked me up. Definitely can be read as a standalone novel, as I haven't read any of the other books in the series so far.

I'm trying to get caught up on my reviews for Netgalley (where I got my copy in exchange for my honest review). I got this book in 2014 and just read it now in Jan. 2021. I had not read the two previous books in the series, but while two characters pop up and a couple more are mentioned it made no difference.

Definitely heavier on the rather sweet romance than the mystery/paranormal happenings. It was a nice, quick and relatively fluffy despite a death in the past and an abusive situation. The abusive situation, like a couple of other elements, is glossed over and/or dropped which I think is disservice to the topic and readers. Hated the Spider nickname (#1 you don't give yourself a nickname) and how the author flipped back and forth between it and Emma.

The end of the book sets up a series spin off/new direction which sounded more suspense oriented and left me intrigued to find out more about it. Unfortunately, the author doesn't seem to have continued with the idea.

Noah was on his last insurance fraud case, till

He was having weird dreams and having unusual things happen to him in the house he was renting next to the house of the people he was investigating.
Loud noises, TV going on and off, doors slamming....
Then he met the woman pet sitting at the house he was watching.
Then he found out there were 3 ghosts in his house.

Mon avis en Français

My English review

I’ve never read the first novel in the series but having enjoyed the second book, I was curious to discover this one to see the new couple staged here. Indeed, as in the previous story, we once again will have two characters who deal with supernatural problems.

Spider was hired by her boss to take care of his house and his animals (you know, the talking animals we see in book 2), but she is not very good at that, oh no, because they make her crazy every time they can. She would in theory only have to manage them, but of course it’s not all because the neighbor (who is damn sexy) investigates her bosses to see if they are scammers. But even if it was only that because Noah is haunted by a ghost that no one knows about and who seems to manifest herself a lot more lately. And this ghost seems determined to want justice by telling her story, even if the way is not the most relevant.

Emma (Spider) didn’t have an easy life so far and just left her boyfriend who had become a little too obsessive. She now hopes to live free and independent as she has always wanted even if by being the daughter of the chief of police, a lot of people look after her security. It was pretty fun also to see her in some situations. On the other hand we have Noah, quite a pragmatist who does not understand what’s going on in his house but who falls in love with his neighbor when he meets her. This will also open his eyes to many things. Together they will investigate the supernatural apparitions to try to understand what exactly is happening. I liked to know more and I was curious to understand the truth about this ghost story. But of course, a link will appear between the two and even if they’re marked by their past and fear for a new relationship, it was very interesting to see how they fell for the other. I found that even though their relationship is finally quite fast, the author succeeds very well to present a credible and touching story to the reader.

I also admit that I did not expect at all for this purpose and that culprit, I did not see it coming and I loved being surprised at this point. By cons I’m curious to see if we will learn more about Paul, the ex-fiance of Spider as he is quite strange and obsessive with his actions. It was certainly a pleasant and light read, fun to discover. I wonder if the next couple being featured will be about Connor.

Spirited Away (Psychic Detective Series, #3) by Angela Campbell

Jane Hunt Writer First Steps

If you love ghosts you won't be disappointed with 'Spirited Away'. The paranormal characters add to the humour, mystery and suspense but they are just the icing on the cake.

Abbott, Charlie and Costello, the animal stars of this series are involved in many comic scenes which make this fun to read. Spider' our geeky, vulnerable heroine is not psychic but the quirky pets manage to make their wishes known, in ways that are familiar to every person who shares their lives with cats and dogs.

'Spider' lost her mother young. This left her emotionally immature. Dominated by the men in her life she has rebelled in ways usually associated with teenage girls. Working in the psychic detective agency as the computer whizz, is the perfect setup for 'Spider' to be herself. This book sees her reach her full potential and makes her easy to empathise with.

Noah shies away from 'Spider' despite their mutual attraction. Noah is easy to like and whilst not the typical 'alpha' male, except in physical characteristics he is certainly worthy of 'Spider' but can she make him see how good they would be together? The romance between this odd couple is lovely and there is plenty of heat when they're together.

A thread of poignancy runs through this story which gives it added depth and the clues left at the end suggest a change of direction for our intrepid heroes and hopefully more books in this absorbing series.

I received a copy of this book from Harper Impulse via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I don’t know why Angela Campbell wasn’t on my favorite author list before, but she is now. I adore this series so much!

I remember reading an excerpt for this at the end of Something Wicked and wanting to read Spirited Away as soon as it came out.

Spider!

I love Spider. What a fun heroine she is. She is a gamer, a computer nerd, has a collection of t-shirts that I would love to own, is independent, and I kind of want to be her. :D I think she is going on my girl crushes shelf over at Goodreads and it’s been a long time since I’ve put someone on that shelf. I adored her! In fact, I can remember being kind of like her at 25, a bit flighty, noticing the hot guys around me, but not nearly as smart. I don’t remember ever having a 1 year plan let along something longer.

Noah is another great character. He has no faith in himself for reasons that will become clear as you read the book but really is a great guy. I loved him and Emma (Spider) and how they interacted. They are a great combo! Plus he cooks.

Just like Something Wicked, we have the paranormal element, the ghosts and hauntings. I don’t think I’m giving too much away by saying that since this is the psychic detective series. I won’t go into anymore detail about that, but it was a huge part of the story and I absolutely love how it came together at the end.

We got to meet Connor again in Something Wicked. I’m hoping he has his own book down the road. I really want to get into his mind, I know there is so much going on in there and I think his book would be absolutely amazing.

I absolutely loved Spirited Away, just as much as I did Something Wicked. I cannot wait to read book 4 in the series!

Thank you so much for my copy of Spirited Away! <3

As I've been known to do, I started this series on a book other than book 1. I'm a rebel. I know. Hardcore. Anyway. Starting mid-series didn't cause me any moments of confusion (awesome) and the bits of backstory we were given had enough explanation to whet my appetite for more (even more awesome). As an aside, hunky demon slayer/ghost talker dude... I might have to go back and read the book he made an earlier appearance in. Because I do like hunky dudes who can nonchalantly deal with demons and/or ghosts. As one does.

As for this book, ghosts. Lots of ghosts. And some coincidences that made me wonder if the supernatural has a hand in guiding individuals toward answers they wouldn't have known to ask about if they hadn't been thrown into certain situations. <--that's me being vague. *evil laugh*

Right. So. Emma/Spider. I liked how she made a conscious decision to change herself from the person she was before into the person she longed to be. She was intelligent and flighty all at once--something that took a little getting used to--and very determined to show her bosses and co-workers that she has what it takes to get the job done.

And then there's Noah. Secrets and half-truths abound with him. Not all of them FROM him, either. The poor guy gets a heavy dose of truth dropped on him and deals with it admirably.

A solid mystery with nice elements of the supernatural (and one hunky secondary character who I wouldn't mind reading more about) and ... well, let's face it, I like ghosts and hot guys. So this book worked for me.

I enjoyed 'Something Wicked' so much I did not know what to expect with this story, it's followup with different characters. I'm happy to report I read this book in one sitting, it captured my interest so completely. Spider is...oh, such a great character! I honestly expected something very different with her character and with this story, but the author surprised me by turning stereotypes on their heads and bringing a fresh new paranormal mystery to the table. And the animals. Oh, my word, I love these animals. Charlie is a great new addition to the pets in this series. If I had to sum it up for potential readers, I would say this book takes the best of book one ('On the Scent'), which was good-to-average, and the fantastic elements of book two ('something wicked'), which was a great read, and creates a terrific story, a blend of the two books. I think this might now be my favorite, which is amazing since I did love the second book so much. And my only complaint would be the lack of Dylan in this story, but the circumstances probably didn't allow it, and Noah is a great hero, although he and I went back and forth for a while. Basically, I love this series. I very much hope Ms. Campbell continues it because I am not ready for it to end. I really hope Connor gets a book next.

This book has a little bit of everything – a little paranormal, mystery, humor, and twists and turns.

I recommend reading book 1 (On the Scent (Psychic Detective Series, #1)) & 2 (Something Wicked (Psychic Detective Series, #2)) in this series before reading this one. If you don’t read the other books for some parts of this story you will be a little lost. Kind of like the characters are a little lost in this story.

Spider is going to pet/house sit for her boss. Spider is freaking funny with all her accident-proneness. She keeps you snickering though out the story. You get a little background on the characters. Mostly spider from her ex-boyfriend and all the drama he bring around.

When Spider needs rescuing her neighbor Noah is more than willing to help out. This story ends a little different than the others and alludes to another books. It’s not a cliffy but definitely alludes to another story.

I recommend this story. Can’t wait to read more of this series.

Reviewer for paranormal romance and authors that rock.
This book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, but you will want to buy the other ones in the series.
Emma (spider),is babysitting her boss's animals when they go away. When she gets locked out, Noah West, the new neighbor opposite helps her back into the house but as she is going in Spider sees a woman in his upstairs room and asks him about her but he says he lives there alone. Who is right.
More weird stuff occurs over at Noahs and he starts to think he is loosing his mind.
Spider digs out the history of the house and finds that it is haunted.
They bring in a friend of Spiders boss and find that Noah himself is being haunted too.
This book will keep you hooked from start to finish. It will make you laugh and cry and everything in between. The characters are well written and are easy to relate to.

Book 3 in the brilliantly witty 'Psychic Detective' series from Angela Campbell – perfect for fans of Janet Evanovich & Stephanie Plum! Who knew pet-sitting could be so dangerous...or so sexy?! Socially awkward Emma "Spider" Fisher prefers her laptop to people, so she's more than happy to oblige her boss when he asks her to pet- and housesit while he honeymoons in London. But it doesn't take long for accident-prone Spider to lose a dog, get locked out of the house, and set off the house alarm! Thankfully, her hot new neighbour is more than happy to come to her rescue. But Noah West is a mystery to Spider—and one she intends to solve.

It's a tough call to decide whether 'Spirited Away' or 'Something Wicked' is my favourite Angela Campbell book. This was another great read, filled with humor, action, a light paranormal touch, and two fascinating characters who kept me entertained from page one all the way to the very satisfying conclusion. Spider is an intriguing, quirky, lovable heroine and Noah a delicious hero. I enjoyed the twists in this book, but for me it was the author's voice that made this a 5-star read.

Geek/gamer/hackergirl Emma is a very engaging--and capable!--heroine. While pet-setting for her boss, she gets caught up in the ghost troubles of her hot next door neighbour, Noah. And, of course, Noah has secrets of his own... Some genuine chills, some laugh out loud antics, some romance and a mystery all wrapped up in one. Fave moment: when Emma is trying to bribe the cat not to tell on her to her boss (who's a psychic who can talk to animals).

This was my first read from Campbell and I enjoy this supernatural read. Emma (Spider) has a mysterous ride set before her. I had so much fun. I wanted more. I will seek out more of Campbell's work in the future. I say whole heartedly. More, Please!

Thanks, NetGalley. This is my honest review of this book as I see it.
