A missing girl, a trafficking ring, and a web of lies.
When wayward teen Olivia goes missing, her friend reports it.
Jon Pilgrim and his team take the case, hunting for the missing girl. Sifting through their lives, they discover both girls have been victims for a long time. Grooming, gaslighting, a criminal gang used these vulnerable young women.
As the case progresses, a local millionaire is implicated, a millionaire with links to the wealthy and powerful. But when the wealthy businessman’s girlfriend takes an all too personal interest in Jon, things get complicated.
Lies, corruption, and trafficked girls lead Jon into a tangled web. And there could be no escape from the spider at its core.
A Tangled Web is a pulse-pounding new thriller from author A L Fraine. Perfect for fans of JD Kirk, JM Dalgliesh, Alex Smith, David Gatward, and Ian Rankin.
This is the 5th book I've read featuring Detective Kate O'Connell and they have got better as the series have progressed. The first book was spoilt by typo's and the other negative was the way Kate is speaks to her superiors and the humour was a bit silly and childish at times, not what I would expect from grown up Police Officers. The stories are good, I just felt this spoilt it therefore not 5 stars.
This is the second book in the DCI Pilgrim series but the 6th book featuring Kate O'Connell and having just finished the Kate O'Connell series it was nice to see her back in action as Finger-Girl (you have to read it to understand). The characters are well written and realistic and they enjoy lots of playful banter in between searching for ruthless villains.
The plot is well presented and is full of action and suspense. The narrator gives an excellent performance and gives each character a unique voice, bringing them to life and matching the pace of the book perfectly.
I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and am voluntarily writing an honest and unbiased review.
The second book of the series & I enjoyed the storyline. The characters are believable & I enjoy the banter between them.I also think the series is getting better the more I read.I definitely recommend you give this series A read as A L Fraine is an author I will definitely read his books as I enjoy how he writes his books & I enjoy getting to know the characters as well as it just being about the police cases⭐⭐⭐⭐
I'm enjoying this series. Characterisations are good and action flows at a good pace. The police procedural parts are not overdone and never become boring. A few things irritate just a little. A couple of small errors have crept in, and there is an overuse of nicknames - the latter can become a little tedious. But the story is good and is told in a very readable style. Full marks to A.L.Fraine.
Jon and Kate get involved in a missing persons case which turns out to be so much more. There have been other girls going missing in the past and there seems to be some association with the Russian Mafia. There’s a lot happening in this story and, as in real life, not everything works out as they’d like it to. It’s a fast and furious ride and I enjoyed it a great deal.
This is the second book in the DCI Pilgrim series and like the first one it contains a mystery that needs to be solved by the team of detectives. There is a lot of banter between the team which adds humor to the dark and serious crimes they investigate. Enjoyable read.
After finishing Book 1 I went straight onto Book 2 in this exciting series. As with the first in the series this book is fairly short but action packed, and there's plenty of humour too (Finger-Girl!) The main characters are excellent and I love the banter between Pilgrim and O'Connell. Can't wait for Book 3.
Good storyline and I like the fact he’s a northerner living down south having to come to terms with the more expensive cost of living etc but I’m not sure about all the banter and sexual innuendo would real police officers be like that I don’t know maybe I’m being naïve
Nathan, Jon & Kate are again on a trail of a darker organisation and with girls going missing then this is one with plenty of tension and suspense as they track down those responsible. Some good smile along moments as well keeping this a bit on the lighter side.
Now this is the kind of book that I look for. It’s got the British detectives with their partners and their teams going up against difficult odds until the mystery is solved. I literally read this in one day. I did not want to put it down.
I enjoyed the first book in this series but this is even better!great likeable characters and with humour to lighten the mood.please hurry up and publish book three and more,
Kate and Pilgrim relationship is rekindled. A series of murders and missing girls are solved. The prospect of more mysteries are formulated. Time to read the next instalment.
This was such a good book, I really enjoyed it. Jon and his team just crack me up and Kate and Jon make excellent partners. The author really made the words come to life.
There's the making of a good story spoiled by unrealistic characters. This is the second in the series and I doubt if I would read any further. Pilgrim is a very unlikable main character The humour just doesn't work. Shame as it could be good.
A great follow-on to Axe to Grind. More is revealed about the characters, as well as the crimes. Fraine has woven together past history and given us a foundation for future crime. All in all, a great continuation to the series.
Loved this book! Kept me entertained and laughing at times! Jon and his team are brilliant and work well together. Looking forward to more in this series.
