Excellent Second Book
Even more polished than the first. Once again we are drawn into a visceral world and occupation, with characters that, no matter how good or bad they are, have a very realistic streak of the other showing in them. Sometimes it’s a weakness, sometimes a strength. The use of that depth in these books is masterful, showing us rich characters that are worth reading about and interesting to follow.
This second book builds on everything seen before, and expands and stretches it in ways that are fascinating to watch take shape. Jakub grows a great deal in a number of ways, and we get to see more of the world as well (even if it’s mostly in one city). The plot is more advanced as well, with realistic and truly vile villains, along with some realistic and scarred heroes.
An excellent read, well-crafted and reasonably edited, especially if you enjoyed book one. Definitely recommended (but not for the faint of heart)

I got both the first and this book in the series last week and just finished Code this morning. Much better second book to this series. Very solid, Davis continues Jakub Russo's story right after the first book ends and Jakub must face the repercussions of his actions during the first book (Path). Does Jakub Russo make the best decisions, no. Is he the typical "good guy" from fantasy books, no. But that is what makes him a believable and relatable character (minus the resurrecting of the dead that is). I enjoyed Code very much and am looking forward to the next in the series. My only gripe is, I felt at the very end of the book the story felt a little rushed but that did not make the book any less enjoyable.

Fun book 2 - starts right where first ended
This story starts right in the action, which is a fun beginning. It starts where the first book left off, our Necromancer protagonist receiving the repercussions for his adventures in book one.
This leads us into a greater story that questions and expands on the world we have. Are the academy the good guys? What is magic in this world? What are the costs of magic?
Some are answered, but others are left open for us to learn and discover later.
Looking forward to a book 3.

Perhaps not for the weak of stomach
Because it's full of necromantic goodness. Exploding things, fire, poison, torture, dismemberment, zombies and other necromancer fun. The MC is a necromancer that does his best to do the right thing under some seriously trying times. It is pretty gross in places and a damned good read.

Great book.
Among the best part of this book is the characterisation of the antagonists. They had real powerful reasons for their actions, managing to be evil while still being somewhat sympathetic and avoiding the I'm evil because I'm CRAZY!.

A really cool adult style
I really liked the lack of cringe adolescent moments. The Mc was brave and heroic with out being a paragon. A very believable character. I really enjoyed it and will get book three when it’s done

decent book better than the first... i look forward to more, its an interesting way of looking at a fantasy world that will resonate with any gamer

Good story, but...
It seems like the author wrote the whole thing using talk to text. Lots of spelling errors.
I really enjoyed the story though, so I would reccomend it.
