Friends and Lovers #4

An Inappropriate Affair: Friends and Lovers, Book 4

Rate this book
Gian Crane, youngest of six, the family underachiever, started out with reasonable goals. But now at 32, the sum of her life is an uninspiring job and one major broken heart. If it wasn’t for her best friend Maddie, she’d have no joy in her life at all.

Then, a management shuffle elevates Gian to the new boss’ personal assistant, a boss who’s reserved, icily attractive, and a little older. Just Gian’s type. No, Gian will not complicate her life by foolishly allowing herself to be wildly attracted to her new boss. That can’t go anywhere, can it?

Flynn Fox finds her 40th birthday looming, and what does she have to show for it? A failed marriage. A son who doesn’t seem to care if she’s part of his life or not. And she’s still allowing family pressures to leech the color from her life, while her supposed "unnatural tendencies" have seen her shuffled out of the limelight in the family company.

She’s under no illusions about why her father suddenly wants her to take charge of the struggling Kingstone branch of Fox and Sons. If it fails, it won’t be on him. Is this her chance to show her worth, even if it means going against her father’s instructions?

Into Flynn’s life steps Gian, and attraction flares. But Gian is younger, unlike any of the women Flynn is usually attracted to, and she’s Gian’s boss. If she acted on this attraction, it would be totally inappropriate. Wouldn’t it?

Some wealthy people have horrible families especially when they're trying to convince others of how rich they are. Very well done story.

An Inappropriate Affair by Lyn Denison, narrated by Cat Gould

This is the first book I read (or listened to) by this author even though she’s a well established writer. An Inappropriate Affair is book 4 of the Friends and Lovers series, all standalone novels. I didn’t read any of the other books and even though there are references to events covered in other books, I didn’t feel I was missing out anything important.

This is an age-gap workplace romance with an ice queen boss. It took me a while to get used to the writing style of this author, especially the long narrative stretches and the fact that sometimes the same event is described from both characters’ point of view. Probably it would have been a DNF for me if it wasn’t for the narrating skills of Cat Gould. Her performance was spot-on as usual. 3.5 stars.

very well written

Flynn and Gian love story was dramatic and had me wanting to get counseling for Gian! I was just so happy wheng they got stranded and had to share a bed. I loved your cuddle bunny reference which led the two main characters to finally give into their desire. Gians approach for not letting Flynn go had a real surprise twist and it finally paid off for these two incredible characters. I’m glad I read this book and look forward for more wonderful stories from you. Thank you

This book takes slow burn to a whole new level! Yet, the end to the wait is pretty darn hot.

Two previously burned-by-love women find themselves in a very inappropriate relationship. As someone partial to Ice Queens, I must say Flynn takes her title seriously! Enjoyed this book very much.

Of course a relationship with the boss is Inappropriate so the reality of No Strings Attached became a good plan What could possibly detract? We all need best friends like Maddie. We'll narrated by Cat Gould

Lyn Denison has been a favorite author for years. Her characters are relatable, the stories flow well, and they are well edited. She hits it out of the park with An Inappropriate Affair! I’m looking forward to her next release!

While I liked both main characters, Gain and Flynn, as well as Gain's best friend Maddie, I struggled to stay interested in this book. I think it was that the same event was often told/retold from each main character's viewpoint and that there was, in general, a copious amount of dialogue. The writing structure was a bit different too, with many short paragraphs with a double space between them. For some reason, I found that distracting.

I did enjoy the story that was being told and I am obviously in the minority as far as enjoyment of this novel went. I have two other books written by this author in my Kindle and this experience has not put me off reading those. Having read and enjoyed another book of Denison's I am chalking this one up to a simple mismatch of style and reader.
