Of Dragons and Wolves #2

Falling for the Captive: Of Dragons and Wolves, Book 2

Rate this book
Beta wolf Tom Parker only wanted to protect his little brother. He didn't want to work for dragon hunting Templars. To make matters worse, one of the dragons he brought in is his destined mate.

Grant Hamilton is disgusted when a wolf comes to him for sex, although he cannot deny the lust he feels for Tom, who is handsome, so he will play along simply for the pleasure. But he also cannot deny the urge to protect Tom when the wolf helps him escape. Now Tom is a captive amongst the dragons, and though he has his brother back, he is miserable because the mating is one sided, and Grant's entire clan hates his existence. Though Grant tries to stay away, he cannot, and when he learns that Tom mated with him before being ordered to by the Templars, he will do everything in his power to make up for bad behavior.

I like how the 2nd book flowed from the 1st and the author took the setting elsewhere right away. Usually in the shifter-y series the setting doesn't change much until it's time to inject new blood into the series, but this one went off the path right away and it flowed pretty organically from the first and kept me hooked more than a static setting would.

The initial boning was a little awkward and relied on the "mate" thing pretty heavily considering where the two MC's were, but I rolled with it and the story's misunderstanding didn't go too far, which was good. That way there was just enough conflict and plenty of time for them to be together too.

Paranormals from Siren all seem to have the same general vibe. They're relatively short and are rather badly written, but they're easy to read, relatively inoffensive, and have just enough suspense to keep a casual reader interested. I'm not blown away by these wolf/dragon stories, but I'm invested enough to wanna see what happens next, and that's the button you wanna hit if you're writing stories that don't have cliffhangers while being a small part of a larger whole.

Jacks is a better writer than Stormy Glenn and Charlie Richards on a technical level. I've found significantly less grammar ignorance, and her sex scenes are much less awkward than Richards's. Still, there's an almost frustrating feeling of things being incomplete when you're done with each book. It just feels like there should be more closure to each relationship. Though I've discovered that Jacks revisits other couples in later installments, so it will be interesting to see how she handles that.

Siren tends to overprice their books, and for a company that publishes some real schlock, it's rather entertaining to read how many piracy warnings they've slapped on their products... But I can see how they're making money; in the supermarket of books, Siren is responsible for handling the candy aisle.

I wanted this story as soon as I finished book one.

I needed to see Tom get his mate... okay, fuck his mate but still, mating is fun to witness from fucking to the forever business.

I felt for Tom and his circumstances with the stupid ass Templar and their bullshit. I wanted him to be free and if that meant getting his mate who was a black dragon, well then let's do this shit.

The mating was odd at first and yet it was still hot. I like it that way.

Meeting Grant in book one I felt as if I knew him a bit already and was ready for him to be turned inside out by this wolf who risked everything for him. I wasn't disappointed.

It was great to see everyone again but good lord, how long will Kendrick be tortured?

Let's hope the next book brings Grant's twin Fraser home and more dragon wolf fucking happens... a lot.

This second book in the 'Of Dragons and Wolves' series is just as exciting, action-packed, and emotionally intense as the first. Some of the characters from the initial installment are back, and yes, the books do need to be read in sequence. The Templars are still up to no good, but I found out more details about exactly what they may be up to – no good at all, that much is certain. The main characters of Tom, a werewolf beta, and Grant, a dragon guard, had a brief appearance in book one, but they are the focus in this second book. They had me fascinated, since their issues were not easy ones to deal with. It just goes to show that, among other things, making assumptions and not talking about major problems is NOT the way to make a relationship work – especially not an interspecies one where all kinds of cross-cultural barriers raise their ugly heads on top of the “normal” ones.

Tom may be a beta wolf, but he does not submit to just anyone. And when his brother is kidnapped by the evil Templars to make Tom do their bidding, Tom’s main focus is figuring out how to free Brandon; after all, the kid is only four. When he walks past one of the imprisoned dragons in the basement of the Templar’s church, he is shocked to realize the man is his mate! And when the Templars pick up on is fascination and try to use it for their purposes, Tom ends up mating with Grant for real. The only problem is that he believe it to be one-sided, Grant has no idea what is going on, and the worry an lack of proper contact quickly make Tom sick. Tom knows he isn’t very good at understanding dragons’ behavior – but does he say anything? Ask some questions? Arghhh!

Grant has no idea what hit him when he encounters Tom. Although he does not really like werewolves, this one has him thinking all kinds of naughty thoughts. So he goes along with what the man wants, only to discover that Tom, at great personal cost, frees him as well as his own brother when the time comes. Of course Tom ends up with Grant at the dragons' cave-based home on the mountain, and even though Grant is certain of the wolf's loyalty, many others in the lair atop the mountain are not. Grant sees Tom wither by the day but has no idea what the problem might be. He finally takes drastic measures, some of which he hates himself for, to make Tom talk. He has a lot to apologize for, but Tom might have very well died if Grant hadn’t acted, so I can’t really blame him for what he does. Luckily, neither can Tom.

If you liked the first book, if you enjoy watching the drama between two men who don’t only hesitate to talk about the important stuff but are culturally predestined to misunderstand each other’s signals, and if you’re looking for a read that is as suspenseful and interesting as it is emotional and hot, then you will probably like this novella. I loved it and really look forward to book three!

The storytelling could be a lot less sloppy. For instance, when did they ever tell each other their names? Yet they use them right away. Maybe I missed something…

And the love, well, with the return to all-out fated mating (albeit one-sided) it is of course instantaneous. On both sides, in fact, despite it being a wolf thing. (A wolf thing that Conner never acknowledged in his own book, and he’d have had plenty reason to.)

I pretty much feel that the author wrote book one (minus that last preview chapter) not intending to go for pregnancy or fated love this time around. Maybe the publisher insisted? Or she just felt more comfortable with what she’d been steeped in for a while now? Who knows. It does make me a little sad because I liked the setup of book one.

On the other hand, this still turned out to be a nice story. Completely classic in some ways. So I suppose the emotional side worked.

I am of two minds concerning the author’s tendency to summarize or skip ahead. One the one hand it sometimes seems to skim over what might have been excellent scenes of emotion – on the other it might well be that she only writes what doesn’t bore her, and that is something I fully support. There are way too many books that feature parts you just have to slug through to get to the good bits, huh? So her books (I think) at least avoid that. At a cost.

I also don’t quite know what to think of the ongoing Kendrick saga. Does this mean not all volumes will be about dragon/wolf pairings? Completely legit; I just wonder about him.

Anyway, even if this may not sound like it, I definitely am content enough.

A wonderful continuation of the series. Tom, the beta werewolf who was forced to work with the Templars (along with some other wolves), because the Templars were holding their pups and Tom's little brother hostage, in order to get the wolves to help them get dragons.

Tom and Grant were so cute with their misunderstandings and miscommunications after they mated. Dragons have different mating rituals, so Grant didn't understand what was going on with Tom. Men *eye roll*

Looking forward to the next book since there's now a shape-shifting dragon running around, and Grant's twin brother still hasn't been found from where the Templars took him, and Roman is in love with Kendrick who the shape-shifter seems to want. Ai. It's like a telenovela!

This was an interesting reading, but not as intriguing as the first book. I liked this couple less bcs they had a lot of misunderstandings for no real good reason if not the fact that they didn't talk at all. There was a lot of sex, not that I usually complain about these scenes, but I think we needed something more than that in this 2nd book.

2.5 stars. As always numerous grammar errors and typos (there were some hilarious ones: "Tom shivered with pleasure at the idea of Grant's huge sock spearing inside of him... "). And, way too much porking. But, as this series is like a crack, I'll be purchasing the next installment. Probably... Eh.

So I needed something small to just fill the day as I was in the middle of another audiobook, but it had gone wonky on my ipod. This fit the bill perfectly.

A continuation from the previous, this was about Grant the dragon, and Tom the wolf.

All in all, I liked it. Though Tom really did get petulant.

Definitely started to feel more for Kendrick, and not just feeling that he was annoying.

As far as the narration goes... I really hated the voice the narrator used for Tom. It was Southern Redneck, but badly done.

I have a lot of negative feelings about how the sexual relationship between Tom and grant begins. I guess technically they consent, except they can’t? Tom is coerced so he doesn’t lose his little brother and grant is imprisoned? Just doesn’t seem like there’s much room for either to give a fully-informed, enthusiastic yes to the activities.

The story development is coming along nicely and see how future pairing between Roman and Kendrick is becoming a more solid possibility. Also creating the mystery about who the shapeshifting dragon is and what they want with Kendrick.

Not bad for the 2nd in the series. Not real sure about this - nothing that really stands out, but I am still interested to see where this series may go.

Ambos me encantan .
Sorry not sorry.

Nice flow from book 1 strait to book 2.
I liked this one, but not as much as the first.
Still it was a nice read. Nothing that jumps out and grips you in it's clutches, making you run out to grab the next one. But I'll probably pick up the next one when I'm looking for a nice rainy day in bed when you just want to cuddle in.

I'm giving this book a 4 stars.

The story open up to Tom, who we meet at the end of the first book, who is working with the Templar but by force because they have his little brother held captive and until he done his part in helping them they will not release him. While on the way inside the church he saw Grant, the younger twin, and he knew that Grant was his mate. However, he is not the only one who found out and when they did they tell Tom to sleep with Grant in order to get information on how to enter the dragon mountain and capture as many dragon as possible. Tom agree, but by force again by threaten that he will never see his brother again as well as the rest of the pups that his other fellow wolf are being held captive. At the same time Grant has been separate by his twin brother and try his best to keep them from taking away from him but it was no use. When he woke up he found Tom and knew the reason why Tom is there with him and its digested him at first but can't deny that there is something about him that draw to him to he decided to go with it. Will they be happily mated or will the wall between them prevent them from even started to know what be mated mean.

I have to say I love the twin when I first meet them in the first book and I'm glad we get to see one of the twin story first and how he found his mate. I have to say not the best way to find your mate but hey a mate is a mate and there nothing that anyone can do about it on how you meet them is just afterward when thing gets tricky about it. In this case Grant thinking that the only reason that Tom mated with him is to get information on where they can enter his home and not feel anything for him. Which is not true cause the moment that Tom saw Grant he knew that Grant is his mate and when ask to sleep with him he did not like the way they are force to mate but Tom is more then happy to mate with Grant because he believe that this is his only chance that he get to be with his mate and he takes it.

I do like the chemistry between them even though it was force at first and then afterward with the struggle between them but in the end they made up and that all that matter, in this case at least. I can't wait to read the next book because is going to be the story about the other twin, forgot how to spell his name, and I want to know what is happening with him.

The story picks up right were the first one left of. Grant was captured by the Templars. Tom had a part in his capture. A unwilling part, because the Templars have his brother captive. The Templars notice that Tom is unusually attracted to the dragon. They make a deal. Tom seduces the dragon for information about how to reach the dragon's lair and the Templars will let everybody go (yes, they have more shifters they are holding hostage). So Tom agrees. It leads to an intense sex scene. Very hot. Afterwards Tom is mated to Grant, but Grant has no idea that Tom is his mate. However Grant escapes (with a little help from Tom) but than takes Tom and his brother back to his home in the mountains. Tom is initially a captive, but in the end Grant realizes Tom is his mate. So HEA for them. I like this series. It is fast paced without too much drama. But I can't give it more than three stars. It is just too short and what little drama there is, is all about miscommunication. I hate that.

Ended up being enjoyable but there were one or 2 slow parts in the beginning and middle. Also at the end of the book we find out there is a shape shifting doppelganger in the castle w who can look like any one or anything it seems. But immediately after this revelation the book ends and now we know absolutely nothing. That seemed strange to me. Why not wait for the next book to include that?

Waaay better than the first book. The heroes were both awesome, unlike that asshole dragon dickhead in the first book. I enjoyed this way better. Yummy and sweet.
