What's Wrong With Your Dad?

Rate this book
What’s Wrong With Your Dad is the true story of what it was like growing up and surviving a family with both alcoholism and Borderline Personality Disorder. It is told in the first person in a very conversational way, like the author and the reader are just sitting over coffee talking. It explains in clear layman’s terms the behaviors of both alcoholism and Borderline Personality Disorder and lets the reader know in no uncertain terms that the behavior was not in any way created by any adult child of either an alcoholic or BPD.

This is a story of survival and a story of hope. It follows the author from birth to her late 40’s. From small farm town in California to her own private practice in Mesa, AZ. It is an empowering journey of learning how to survive damaging parents and teaching others how to survive damaging parents. Although the subject matter is sometimes hard to read there is a lot of humor, a lot of love and a lot of acceptance and understanding that will bring the reader to a greater understanding of what drives both alcoholism and BPD. The book teaches the reader that just because your childhood was rocky and not much fun it does not mean you cannot have success and fun as an adult.

This book was written in response to numerous clients who mistakenly believed that they were alone in the universe in having alcoholic and dysfunctional parents. In writing this book I have bared my soul and shown that they are not alone in surviving a frightening and baffling childhood due to both the personality disorder and the alcoholism of the parents. There is always, always hope.

You r not Alone!

For now, let me simply say that due to uncertainty and loss, my life is difficult. Yet, I read this book in 2 days! My concentration is low, but no problem while reading Kris's memoir. Our problems were different yet similar and there is no need to compare. Abuse is abuse! As Kris takes us on her journey from childhood and into adulthood, the reader learns how the abuse manifested in her life with her own addictions and self esteem struggles. We watch her work through her grief from her past, which addictions are an attempt to medicate, and become a well adjusted successful professional, with a strong marriage. She moved past what she was taught she was and into who she really us. It took WORK and it can be done! Kris leaves one feeling they are not alone, and it is possible to achieve happiness. Even if one has done a lot of the work, life sometimes throws rocks at a happy existence, and this memoir reminds us that we can be happy again, and a reminder of how to get there.

Written like you're being talked to, this is an engrossing and quick read about Kris' life story up until the publication of the book. It's about her movement from a very hard childhood to a triumphant adulthood where she helps others. She is truly an inspiration.

Kris Godinez is my personal hero, seriously she has helped me so much when it comes to learning about and standing up to narcissistic abuse. What's Wrong With Your Dad? is her personal story of what it was like growing up with a narcissistic father who was also an alcoholic. Her mother was passive and they reminded me in ways of my own parents. Read her book and start a journey of healing. You will learn that you have every right to stand up for yourself and she shows you how. If you never quite understood who or what a narcissist is, Kris teaches you what to look out for and how to communicate with them.
