I've read several of James Patrick Hunt's novels and this has got to be one of the best...if not the best.

He is so good at describing scenes, developing the characters and telling a thrilling story that I'm surprised that this novel hasn't been made into a movie. The story and the characters are so vivid you can imagine them yourself.

A real page turner. Would make an exciting movie. A cross between Cape Fear and a Hitchcock thriller.

Good plot. Good writing. Believable characters. My first time read of James Patrick Hunt and not my last. The Reckoning is paced so we begin to understand the dynamics of protagonist Tracy Coughlin, a newly widowed mother of an eight -year-old son, John, who along with her father-in-law are taken hostage by three vile escaped convicts. The pace was rushed, nor was it dull or receptive. The story moved along with interest. Why, how and what next? move it along with a sense of discovery and with tension building for the hostages. Hunt is still an underdiscoverd (to main stream readers), but do not think this novel is, as too often readers do, a dismissal because of that. I say, enjoy!

My first introduction to James Patrick Hunt, but I will now chase down more of his books. Likeable protagonists. A realistic plot. A good mixture of character development and action. Possibly too many characters, but all fleshed out so the reader doesn't get too confused.

My first JP hunt novel and not my last. Very suspenseful with the 3 hostages trying to outsmart the escaped convicts. The leader had the $50k distraction that lead to his demise.

Fast paced book! It is a page turner. How will it end? Will anyone survive? Only bad thing is some of the language used.
