Bob Blanton

Bob Blanton has been an avid reader ever since his mother first took him to a library at age five. He has toyed with writing for years since college but was always too busy to start a novel. The "stone series" developed almost by itself as he was trying to sleep on long flights to Asia and Europe. He managed to write it and two follow-on novels while he was working, but never had the time to polish them. After he retired to the beach in Mexico, the only thing that competes with writing is the sound of the ocean and sunsets over the water. Now that he has published his series, he hopes you enjoy reading them as much as he has had writing them. Check back for other books as he continues to ply his new trade.

Now that he has published his series, he hopes you enjoy reading about Matthew and his developing powers as much as he has enjoyed writing about them.

Not the same

I love the series but we need to get back to the beginning where there is family friends adventure discovery. Not happy with the new direction, let's explore the other family members.

So this whole story is about a particular family who make a discovery of alien artifacts and then use them to progress their society/save their society, and then their planet.

As the series has progressed, they have moved into space, met other alien civilisations and kept dealing with stuff as it has come up, both foreign and domestic. Hence, the series has moved a bit more into the space opera genre. In this current book anyway. It doesn't really work for me because the hostile planetary government is more a "problem" than an adversary.

So here's the thing: Blanton is crap at writing alien societies. In fact, he just doesn't. The aliens are basically humans with different ears or whatever. I mean maybe there is some greater plot where actually all the aliens are really variations of humans because there are some secret lizard aliens who did that on purpose? If there are, I'm pretty sure they will turn out to be identical to the rest of the aliens in this series, but perhaps, uglier. Possibly slimy? But somehow still having iPhones.

The author would have done better to decide at the outset that the "aliens" Earth would discover would in fact be other human societies that have evolved in parallel with ours or something. But nope.

So anyway, in this book Catie and co go to the planet of the Thoreans who have committed hostile acts against the Delphi Federation to Sort Them Out. So far so good. They proceed to do so. Somehow the aliens have...Twitter (I mean, it's called Twitter even). They set up a secret resistance twitter called ... BlueBird. And lead lives pretty much like first world countries on earth, with cars, driving to work, economies based on gold/platinum reserves, banks...security trucks to pick up the gold and platinum...the internet...bars...everyone has a smartphone...identical patterns of discrimination based on race and sex...

Those who have never read any science fiction in their lives might really enjoy this series as it is continuing. I just kept being jolted out of the story by the seriously crap world-building. There are other serious epic fails in the series too, but it's the whole alien thing which is the most glaring and irritating.

The title is kind of interesting. The "diplomacy" Delphi takes part in is very similar to US "diplomacy" from 1870 to well into the 90s, if not still. Did the author mean this ironically? Or is it a genuine blind spot? Like, dude.

It’s OK, Mostly

There seems to be a breakdown in this series with this book. The narrative and plot are not as clearly defined as previous books in the series. Even the afterward comments make reference to “this book 11” (this is actually book 15) which leads me to believe that editing and review before publication was minimal at best.

The storyline in this installment is far more nebulous than previous books and it’s not always immediately apparent which political faction is currently speaking. Book 15 pauses without providing any resolution to the primary story threads in this installment. The reader is left with no clear outcome for the conflict and the last few paragraphs begin a new conundrum, leading into the next book.

keep them coming getting better each time

Princess Catherine is now almost 20 yrs old and maturing from a know it all teen to a level headed Know it all adult. The entire family has evolved and learned. I still contend that this would make a fantastic Netflix Series. Make sure it is available in Mexico. Looking forward with baited breath. I stopped reading the book I was about 2/3 through to read this. About 4+ hours.

this was a quick read and interesting saga.

While traveling on a diplomatic mission, the Delphinian envoy manages to free two worlds under an oppressive regime. They collect more planets for the league and promote needed trade across star systems. I’ve given up on the editing. This one was not too bad…needed one more proofread would have done it. When I think of the volume of text the Blanton have to produce and edit I feel I have to cut them a break. Especially considering the quality of the story elements.

Excellent Book, Excellent Series

Catie continues her mission to contact space fairing civilizations and determine if they should be a member of the Delphi League. Things go side wise when the latest prospects set a trap to capture the Delphi ship. I like the action, humor, and intrigue. I look forward to the next book.

Very good series

It is great that Bob has worked to return this storyline s that not just Vague is the hero. It must be a challenge to evolve the narrative.
I admire and greatly enjoy what Bob has created. At the same time it is necessary to step back and see if new directions can be pursued.

Childlike writing

Interesting premise but the execution leaves much to be desired. Absolutely no character development. Every character 2 dimensional. Every battle is won only because the enemy commander is an idiot. No plot, no prose, no character flaws or development, and most of the so called science is laughably wrong.

Fantastic

Never knew I would enjoy a sci-fi series that has so many board meetings!
Love this series, I have just finished reading from book 1-14 and can't wait for the next.
Have enjoyed following Catie as she gets older and love the tech. Just wish this was all happening for real! Dream on! That's why we read great sci-fi like this, thank you Mr Blanton!

Better, at least the adults are getting to play major parts in this book. Hopefully that trend will continue, the Princess has had to large of a role for a teen-ager and the series has suffered because of it. Keep the adults in the room and let the Princess play a secondary role.

Finally!

I was ready to give up this series. It had devolved into meetings and minutia. Absolutely boring. This installment was actually a pleasure to read. The previous books were starting to read like a teenager's diary. This one was back to adulthood!

Book 15 in the series

Catie and the rest of the crew continue to visit other star systems to convince them to join the Delphi League. Things don’t go smoothly so they improvise. Another great story.

okay

Nothing surprising or too much of a deviation from the previous books. A simple and straightforward decent read. If food, it would be fast food.

I had hoped to review this series all at once, but that is apparently not possible.
Read any of this series at your own risk.

There is no plot, there is no character development, there is no story.

It’s a shame, because I believe the author has a great deal to offer, but instead of making the effort to write a novel, he has churned out many chapters of excruciating detail, none of which contributes to the story.

Most of the amazing ideas of the series are in the first book, but they all have a few new ideas. That’s what kept me skimming, but it’s not enough. Do better, Bob Blanton, because you can.

I love this series!

(Kindle version) The reason for my 4-star rating: Maybe it's just my memory, but the editing of Bob's books seems to be getting worse. Bob's crew is defined by him as: "My copy editor Auz B. My beta reader and editor, Theresa Holmes. My beta reader and cheerleader, Roger Blanton, who happens to be my brother." I think they need some help!

the last book is next can a benevolent family create Plato’s Republic

15 of 16 books of intergalactic peacemaking with lots of economics Hero is a teenager seems to be a new theme in sci-fi, young girl hero.
