Kayla, the eight-year-old daughter of single mom Erica, wants a second mom. Not only for herself, but also so her mom wouldn’t need to work two jobs and would have more time for her. Her solution? She writes a letter to Santa. He can make wishes come true, right?
This letter is the beginning of an enjoyable fake romance between Erica and Abby. The only problem? The attraction between the two is anything but fake.
Erica isn't averse to a romantic relationship, but she only comes as a package with Kayla. One stumbling block, however, is that she doesn't have any time to date at all; she prefers to spend her sparse free time with Kayla, who is clearly the #1 in her life and she will do anything to protect her. If only Abby wasn't so darn attractive. Or at least would like children.
Abby's dream is to work as a journalist. But sometimes life has other plans and so Abby had to take a detour to her goal when, after the death of her mother, she took responsibility for her half-sister Madison. Now, at 28, she finally has her freedom back and doesn’t want to give it up soon again. Eventually, she has a foot in journalism, only as an admin assistant yet, but at least at the renowned magazine Ki. And she will do almost anything to achieve her goal of writing stories.
I love the trope of a fake relationship. And A.L. Brooks did an amazing job. Abby and Erica are well-defined women, with all the good character traits, but also their flaws. Their fears, insecurities, and worries are real and easy to relate to. The attraction and feelings are palpable, but so is the reluctance. But when love spreads in your heart, you are powerless - some just take a little longer to realize it.
Kayla is also well portrayed, with her typical childish mood swings from vain sunshine to a thunderstorm and back again in no time. She sneaks into your heart unbidden, whether you like it or not. In addition, the rest of the supporting cast is also very important, well developed, and perfectly integrated.
A wonderful story of false to real love with endearing characters and an adorable child.

4.5 stars! I really enjoyed this and it made me all warm inside.

When her best friend Stacey asks for her help to revive a lifestyle column, writing a series of articles based on a sweet 8 year old's letter to Santa, her life will take a turn and make her rethink on what is truly important in life: a career or love?
Let me tell you that this book kept surprising me with the twists where the story was headed, and this was a pleasant change.
At the beginning I thought... oh... now I get what this book is going to be about... that trope... But I couldn't be far from the truth. Good one there for making me believe it! And this kept happening throughout the whole book.
Make Her Wish Come True is the perfect novel to read on a cold autumn day. Sitting on a couch, reading words that warm your heart like a soft blanket.
The struggles Abby and Erica face are real. The fear of losing what they care for the most and let down their defences feels real. The fact that there is an adorable child in all of this, it gives the story another flavor and allows the author to write about not only about one kind of love, but so many. The love of a single mother for their child, the love of a grandmother for both of them, the love between sisters, and the ability to love a child even if it's not yours.
When love happens, and you realize it, it's like your heart expands to make room for others in your life. And that's beautiful.

I read it fast, I had to know that things would be okay.

Cuteness overload and steamy, considerate and sweet romantic scenes.
Read it with a cup of hot chocolate and a blanket!

Literally how is this a Christmas book?
There's no Christmas in it.
I still liked it but I definitely preferred the first half of the book since my enjoyment kinda died down towards the end.
I really liked Erica and honestly think she deserved better.
I liked Abby but she also did some things that made me dislike her.
Abby just did a lot of things or had thoughts that made her seem kinda selfish.
But it obviously wasn't bad enough for me to dislike the book.
I tend to really enjoy books with single moms and this was no exception.
Kayla was a great kid.
I also really liked Ericas mom.
Honestly hated Abby's friend Stacy.
The pacing was a little weird, especially in the latter half, and I had no idea how much time had passed exactly, since there isn't much of like "two days later" or "a week later".

Brooks writes books that I enjoy. This story is a bit simplistic but tons of fun.
It goes from fake dating, with only one party being aware is fake, to friend dating, to knowingly fake dating. And this, of course, leads to catching feelings.
I’d say the focus, and the blind eyes turned, for a career is something that just doesn’t sit right with me. I also feel like the resolution to that storyline is too easy and “perfect”.
I would recommend this for a wholesome and fun read. With a kid character that doesn’t annoy me. (Bonus points)

Make Her Wish Come True by A.L. Brooks is a true holiday treat for those who enjoy well written romances with fake relationships and a likeable couple. Add in an adorable child and a wish to Santa that provides the catalyst for this story, and you have a delightful tale to read this season.
The characters really make this story. Abby Baxter, Erica Goode, and her daughter Kayla are realistic characters with hopes, desires, and feelings that align with who they are now as well as what they’ve lived through in the past. The secondary characters also work well in the narrative. The story itself is uplifting and a perfect read for this time of the year.

Make Her Wish Come True by Author A L Brooks is a fake relationship romance that is sweet, cute, and sexy with a sprinkle of anguish- because hello it’s a Brooks book.
Abby wants to be a journalist. She works for popular magazine Ki but currently works in admin, which is not where her passion lies. When an opportunity arises to fake date a woman for the magazine lifestyle column, she decides to grab it. She will get to do some writing and this may be the big break she needs. It's not like feelings need to be involved! Plus, Abby is concentrating on her career, with no distractions, even though the woman she is fake dating is gorgeous, kind, and sexy. No. No distractions.
Erica’s focus is solely on her daughter Kayla. She works two jobs, spends as much time with Kayla as possible, eat, sleep, repeat. But when Abby offers her a chance to enjoy some time away from those responsibilities Erica decides to go for it. She has no time for real dating, so this is the perfect solution. If only Abby wasn’t so beautiful, and if only they didn’t get on so well. But friendship will have to do because Abby has made it clear that this is all pretend and Erica cannot afford to risk her and Kayla’s hearts, can she?
I adore a Brooks book, so I was excited to read this, and it didn’t disappoint. I literally couldn’t put it down and read 80% in a day.
The story is sweet and hooked me from the start and the characters are wonderful and well developed. I got dragged into their world and was happy to stay there forever. I didn’t want it to end and could have happily carried on reading about Abby and Erica’s life.
Abby has given up a lot and had to put her life on hold (I won’t spoil why) and now it's her time to shine. This character has built walls in order to survive what life has thrown her and there are times when she broke my heart. There were also times when I shouted at her and then wanted to give her a big hug. She has such capacity for love if only she would open herself up a little more and trust her feelings. There was a brilliant lightbulb moment for Abby, and I was like ‘Finally’ you get it!
Erica is selfless to a fault her daughter is her world and she struggles to see anything outside it. She is afraid to drop one of the balls she has to juggle so never puts herself first. I love her, she is inspiring but at times I wanted to sit her down and tell her it's okay to make time for yourself, in fact, it is essential.
Abby and Erica are very similar in what they want and who they are at their core. I'm so happy they realise that they’re perfect for each other.
This is a sweet romance with a low amount of anguish. However, this author brings so many emotions to life with her writing that even in the slightly angsty moments my chest hurt and my eyes stung. Equally in all the lovely happy moments, I had the biggest smile on my face.
Now it wouldn’t be a Brooks book without a phenomenal first kiss and enough heat to require a cold shower! Yep, you guessed it this book has it all. What I love and appreciate so much is the consent and communication that is present throughout these scenes, and my god is it sexy. I was lost in these intimate scenes, never having to question what was going on and who had their hands where because they are written perfectly.
There are lovely side characters in this book and Kayla, Erica’s daughter is the star. She made my ovaries ache. She’s smart, sweet, cute as a button and so much fun. I adore her. The sense of family and support is also constant throughout, even though it differs for each main character, it is there and refreshing to see.
I highly recommend this book and I'm giving it a five-star plus. I've been left with a huge book hangover, and I know I’ll re-read this one many times. It's one of those books that’s my happy place and I already want to dive back in.

I admit at first I felt uneasy about Abby lying to Erica and used her. But when Brooks finally lift the bridge of dishonesty,I felt so relieved along with the characters, and the dynamic between them change into an honest and communicating relationship. They were able to get to know each other without pressure during these fake dates and the feelings building between them was really sweet to read. What I liked most in this book was it felt realistic in how they deal with the relationship. They are both busy with their lives, making time for each other only when they can. Erica has a kid and she really puts her first and not rushing in any relationship, though her expectations can pressure a partner a lot.
Now, I was a bit annoyed with Stacy's behavior, and even Abby's at some point. I know Abby feels she owed Stacy, but she was really insensitive toward Erica, who deserves the world. Their last attempt to save both their career made me really mad at Abby and I haven’t had enough time to forgive her.
Overall it was a really sweet holiday romance with chemistry (that salsa scene🔥) between the two MC and a really cute kid

What happens when you don't like kids so a relationship with someone with a child is a no no? Well you've got to read Brooks' latest to discover how Abby's steadfast resolve slowly crumbles after meeting Erica and her daughter Kayla. Fake dating to advance a career, a letter to Santa, cute kid and some heat .... it's all in the storyline. Yes, it's a well used trope but with deft writing, some bumps along the way, touches of drama, angst, match making and the stark realization of love and family this turns into a delightful holiday romance.

It's that time of year where the holiday romances come out and I love a good romance set around Christmas. Make Her Wish Come True is a very sweet holiday read, filled with festive cheer and the possibility of love.
The fake-dating trope is used a little differently in this novel, and without giving away any spoilers, I quite liked the change up. I enjoyed this novel mainly for its authentic characters who grapple with real-life issues, adding depth and relatability to the story.
However, the connection between the charming Santa Letter theme and the contrived fake dating plot felt tenuous, and it was a bit of a struggle to stay invested in the strange storyline. Regardless, it remains a warm, enjoyable tale perfect for those seeking a light-hearted, seasonal escape.

A Dear Santa letter sets in motion this lovely fake dating holiday romance. Abby and Erica end up dating for an online magazine. Things become complicated when feelings don’t match the original agreement between the two.
I enjoyed this romance as Brooks never fails to provide logical obstacles for her characters to manoeuvre around. Speaking of characters, Abby, Erica and Kayla are all well developed and likeable. They make you want to continue reading to find out what happens next.
No matter the season, Make Her Wish Come True is sure to please.

I enjoyed this one, but wasn't entirely sold on the Abby character. While she came clean about her initial intentions, I don't know that I ever quite bought into the growth of her feelings - especially regarding Erica's child. Would have liked to see more development there. And knowing how protective Erica was, it's a bit of a stretch to think she'd allow Abby into her life at all until she was more sure of her intentions. Especially when Abby continued to stumble.
Nice holiday read overall, but would have liked a bit more from this fake dating romance.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading A.L. Brooks's latest contemporary romance, which follows the story of Abby, an aspiring journalist, and Erica, a single mom. The romance unfolds when Erica's eight-year-old daughter, Kayla, writes to Santa, wishing for an additional 'mom,' which eventually leads to Abby fake-dating Erica.
In this book, Brooks presented an interesting twist on the fake-romance trope and introduced a host of intriguing and charming characters. There were many aspects of the book that I loved. Kayla's presence captured my heart from her very first appearance.
I, however, strongly resonated with both Abby and Erica as individuals, both in their personal lives and their careers. Their hesitation to pursue a romantic relationship with each other was so convincingly portrayed that, for the first half of the book, I found it challenging to feel a compelling romantic connection between them. Part of me even considered that they might be better off as friends. Nevertheless, my concerns were eventually dispelled, and I became genuinely invested in their romance. Following Abby's and Erica's inner thoughts was as engrossing as it was delightful and poignant.
All in all, 'Make Her Wish Come True' proved to be an enjoyable read from start to finish. If you're seeking a light, charming, and well-written story, this is definitely worth a read!
In this book, Brooks presented an interesting twist on the fake-romance trope and introduced a host of intriguing and charming characters. There were many aspects of the book that I loved. Kayla's presence captured my heart from her very first appearance.
I, however, strongly resonated with both Abby and Erica as individuals, both in their personal lives and their careers. Their hesitation to pursue a romantic relationship with each other was so convincingly portrayed that, for the first half of the book, I found it challenging to feel a compelling romantic connection between them. Part of me even considered that they might be better off as friends. Nevertheless, my concerns were eventually dispelled, and I became genuinely invested in their romance. Following Abby's and Erica's inner thoughts was as engrossing as it was delightful and poignant.
All in all, 'Make Her Wish Come True' proved to be an enjoyable read from start to finish. If you're seeking a light, charming, and well-written story, this is definitely worth a read!

There was a moment there that I thought this book was pulling a Dream On, Ramona Riley in the only one person is aware that the dating is fake, but thankfully this one came truthful very quickly. I was going to be Big Mad if that hadn't happened.
This was quite sweet all things considered. The romance was wholesome and lovely, and I loved watching Abby and Erica fall in love.
I read this book via audio, and while the narrator has a pleasant voice, there is literally no distinction with any characters or the narrative, which sucks.
This cover is deceptive, though - this book isn't a holiday romance. There is maybe 10% of the book set at Christmas. Yes, I understand the premise is based on a Dear Santa letter that Erica's daughter, Kayla, wrote, but the majority of the book is set outside of the Christmas period.

This is a great contemporary fake relationship/slow burn love story between Abby and Erica. There's also a cute 8 yr old little girl Kayla to steal your heart, who through her letter to Santa got her mom Erica together with Abby. This will make you feel cozy! 5 stars!!

Well, you can write a holiday, fake-dating romance with a pleasant balance between sizzling attraction, light-heartedness and a good sprinkle of serious topics. I loved how Brooks came up with a really good mix. The fake-dating between Abby and Erica goes on for all the wrong reasons and they live the lie far too long, but all ends well - so no complaints.
The mutual attraction was very well written as was the backstory of both main characters. No make-believe necessary when a great writer brings all characters to full technicolor life.
A very enjoyable holiday read.

I’ve been a fan of AL Brooks since I got into sapphic romance a couple years ago and have been very much been looking forward to the release of her latest, Make Her Wish Come True. Admittedly, I’ve been in a bit of a book slump the past couple weeks and needed a book that I knew I would be a winner and I’m happy to report that this book did not disappoint!
One of the things that I love most about Brooks’s stories is that the characters are not perfect people. They are deeply flawed and sometimes do things for the wrong or selfish reasons, but to me that’s what makes her writing so believable and charming. This book was the perfect example of that with Abby, whose early actions are motivated by wanting to further her career and Erica, who made some mistakes when she was young that completely changed her life. Not only do we get to go on a wonderful slow-burn romantic journey with them, we also get to experience their growth as people and as a couple. To me, this is what sets good authors apart from great ones.
On a lighter note, I also really loved the secondarily characters in this book. I’m a sucker for a cute kid and a cute kid asking for a second mom for Christmas? Yeah…total goo.
Lastly, I give Brooks kudos for the very unique plot line. Yes, fake dating is nothing groundbreaking as far as a romance trope. But it’s done in a very unique way here and the story felt fresh and very well thought out.
Overall one of my favorite books of the year so far! If you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and fall in love with AL Brooks. This book is a great place to start.

Honestly I didn't expect to be as disappointed by this book as I was. I mean fake dating with a side of adorable kid and Christmas theme? I mean what's not to love. Well...
Turns out the Christmas theme is very misleading. The setup of the story technically involves a santa letter but majority of the book takes place over summer and autumn months. It's slightly strange when a book with such a strong Christmas theme in the cover and titles isn't actually a Christmas story but it didn't affect what I thought about the book that much.
What affected it the most was handling of the fake dating aspect. The synopsis pretty clearly indicates that both women are aware of the situation and are happy with it. That's not the case in the book. The first third of the book at least has one of the main character letting the other one believe she's genuinely interested in her and actually asking her out. And honestly? That ruins the whole trope for me and in this case the book. In the situation these characters were in it's stupid at best and honestly cruel at worst. It made it impossible for me to like Abby as a character and every time we were in her POV she seemed to be getting worse and worse. My problem was... Her reasonings were valid but the way she behaved was not. And honestly it was hard to in any way root for her and Erica to be together when it just felt like Erica deserved better.
Honestly all the characters made very little sense in the way they behaved and the plot seemed more convoluted then it needed to be. On the bright side, it ended up being a quick read.

This was the eighth book I’ve read by A.L. Brooks, an author whose smooth writing clearly set up the storyline, and I was soon in my cozy reading mode, ready to get the scoop on Abby, Erica and young Kayla.
What I found was a heart-throbbing romance in the middle of a fake-dating trope, complicated by Abby’s work situation and Erica, a single mom whose fears couldn’t allow herself to put her own desires ahead of her daughter’s.
Both parties were in agreement with the fake-dating, and, of course they developed feelings for each other, but there were many layers to sort before it could all be resolved, some which were a bit deceptive to one.
A key character, who was the catalyst to the fake-dating scenario, was Kayla, Erica’s young daughter whose Christmas wish in a letter to Santa Clause, was to have a second mommy.
I don’t want to give any details away because reading how things unfold is important to the pleasure in this enjoyable read.
One other pleasurable mention I’d like to note is that this book included a wonderful dose of romantic and sexy scenes, something in Brooks’ writing that I always look forward to enjoying.

Synopsis didn’t make that much sense still I started reading the book. I didn’t quite get the explanation for the Santa letter from granny but I’m willing to go along for the ride.
I like the way the writer is laying out the similarities in both mains situations and back stories. I also like the fact one main is working two jobs, as a waitress and in a dry cleaners and the other main in an admin job despite having a journalism degree. It makes a change.
However, with the plot turn, just under 20%, I’m nervous because I don’t like what they are doing and this could turn me off one of the mains. It will be interesting to see how the writer handles it.
Well, I’m still really uncomfortable with the circumstances of the date, it just feels a rotten thing to do, however that is helping feel what one main is feeling, but I still think it’s pretty poor behaviour and I know it’s going to blow up.
The writer has managed to get me through my resentment at the action taken and I am certainly into the book. We’ve been shown that what one main thinks is an insurmountable obstacle has already been surmounted! Also we are seeing the relationship develop. Although there is a lack of tension, possibly because a couple of plot bumps have still to be ironed out, I’m happy enough to be along for the ride.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book abbey baxter wants to be a journalist, but life gets in the way and though she gets her degree she cant find a job in her field though she does admin work for journalists hoping that one day she will be noticed erica goode is a single mom with a daughter and two jobs, she has aspirations for her future but for now her career path is on hold as she bring up her daughter with her mothers help fake dating for the newspaper could enhance abbeys career and erica gets to spend time from her family to just be herself ...is it worth the chance some very entertaining moments and some thought provoking stuff as well but on the whole thoroughly enjoyed reading this book

3.5 stars. The journalism career aspect was a little bit of a reach, but maybe I don't know enough about the game there. I loved the other components, however, and I'm always grateful for a romance inclusive of single moms and respectful to our experiences and fears.

3.5. i have complex feelings about this one. first of all, the cover is kinda misleading because, even if ur being kind, the book is an all year round book not a christmas book. if you’re being critical, a majority of the book (i wanna say at least 70%) takes place in AUGUST. imagine picking up a book with christmas trees on the cover and then the characters are sweltering the entire time. actually a little wild. (someone else commented that it’s not a christmas book and i was like okay they don’t have to be doing christmas stuff all the time for it to be a christmas book… there’s one christmas scene… the rest is in august. please)
anyways i think one of the strengths of this book is that it doesn’t leave the audience/characters in uncomfortable situations for too long. one of the mcs starts off doing something completely unethical (relationship and journalism wise) and then confesses and mostly fixes things. the characters are fake dating and doing that yearning but oh she can’t want me to thing and before it gets too annoying, they actually talk about their feelings. so i appreciated that. def a win for communication and healthy (ish) relationships.
the fake dating plot was at least… unique. basically rainbow capitalism / pink washing which i disliked and also, kinda annoying because neither of the mcs are actually *benefiting* from their fake sapphic relationship being used as an ad campaign. the one person who is benefiting (besides the company) actually annoyed me so much for her selfish and again, very unethical choices but at least that got resolved semi okay.
in the end, this was just one of those books where i wasn’t obsessed with the character dynamics and i felt like some of the choices rung flat a little. the sex scenes were just okay.
i’ve also learned that there are certain voices / sounds female audiobook narrators make that really annoy me? like they portray women in this sorta fake, overdone way that i’m just not into. but that could also be how the books are writing female characters as well…
i did like the little girl and i did like the messaging about parenthood (sorta, some of it maybe was a little problematic). overall, a decent audiobook to listen to while embroidering but not the best fake dating novel nor the best lesbian romance and not at all a christmas book!

A little girl’s letter to Santa wishing for a second mom leads to a one sided fake dating relationship, to friends to maybe something more???? In Make Her Wish Come True by A. L. Brooks you get all of this! The story follows Abby, a 28 year old who gave up her early 20s to raise her younger sister and is struggling to secure her dream writing job, even with her journalism degree, and Erica who is a 28 year old single mom who had to drop out of college after getting pregnant, and is working two gruesome service industry jobs to provide for her daughter and keep her afloat. When the two girls meet for the first time the spark is instant, but with both having so much on the line, could that spark lead anywhere?
I loved this book! I am all about a queer romance and this one was so fun, I rated it 4 stars! It was a very different approach to fake dating than I have seen in the past, which I enjoyed, I haven't read something like this before! There were some twists that kept you on your toes here and there which I really appreciated! I also think that the inclusion of the side characters were awesome! The grandma Virginia, and daughter Kayla were highlights! Kayla was age-appropriate, adorable, and hilarious! The story was atmospheric, entertaining, and heartwarming!
There were interesting dynamics between the two main characters, like unnecessary lying, denial, and a bit of miscommunication. These themes did kind if run the story, but it seemed like it was all easily forgiven and the characters were able to move past that in different ways.
I would definitely recommend this book to friends! I think this book would be great for people who love the fake dating trope, found family, career aspirations, single parent, holiday rom com, wishes coming true.

Just the cutest story ever!
Abby, who dreams of being a reporter, gets a deal she can’t refuse. By fake dating a woman for a story her friend is writing, she’ll get a co-writing credit. Erica is that perfect woman, and they meet when she and her daughter, Kayla, are asked to come in for an interview following a letter to Santa about her Christmas wish. Finding themselves actually attracted to one another complicates things, but is taking a chance worth it.
This really was the cutest story ever. Kayla completely stole the show and my heart with how sweet and cute she was, not only with her Christmas wish but just accepting that her life was still good, even though she and her mum only had basics and had to make sacrifices. Erica and Abby were from such different worlds yet perfectly suited. They got on well, had a connection, and Abby was so generous and kind, even if she was hesitant about a real relationship, especially with someone who had a child, but I admired how she embraced it. Kayla really got under her skin too, and that was it, there was no way she was getting away.
There was a real magic in the air that just made every second of the story enjoyable. It was such a special relationship they were forming and really made me smile. Even if things hadn’t worked out, both of them were doing it to be kind and supportive of the other. Kayla was the real winner though!
