Whoever said retirement was quiet never met John Cronin.
The old man may have retired for the final time from the Sheriff’s office, but there are still cows to run, court cases to testify at, and consultation calls to tap decades of experience. And that’s not even counting the cold cases he’s still trying to solve.
With his granddaughter Jesse running the gun store and managing the ranch books, and her husband leaning how to fill Cronin’s shoes on investigations and arrests, John is keeping busy training the next generation, while settling a few old scores!
I think the author has created a world full of people I would have loved to be a part of. The hero's are all good people with good standards doing their best to make the world a better place . The entire series is worth reading. Do it and you too will be entertained and captivated by the stories of The Old Man.
A fitting end to a series of books that I have enjoyed immensely. Long enough and gives a few looks into the old man's past. I very much hope that he does a few prequel books about his time in Vietnam to help me over the end of the "present timeline" . Highly recommended, and I'll be rereading the series until the author writes something new.
Thankfully I followed my gut and bought them all after reading the one. However, nothing got done for two days. Story held together by character and story rolling forward. You got to know the people, their good and bad traits. The story hits home and becomes even more important in a new administration dead set on ignoring the influx of criminal enterprise crossing unimpeded into our country. One can only hope there are still old men and young men and women willing to meet the challenge. By showing that not only white but brown and black legal citizens unite to fight the drug and criminal activity the story should resonate even with the "woke".
The author has written a series for the ages. I don’t often get attached to characters the way I did to the Cronins, their friends and off shoots. But these are special people. Written from a special hand. One like I’ve never known before. I’m saddened to see it end. Mr Curtis, I wish I had the ability to write such prose. Your writing, and your characters here, they speak to me. God bless you sir. And may God bless John Cronin, whenever he is.
This series has brought me a lot of joy over the years. I'm going to miss him, Pecos county will never be the same. Looking forward to Curtis's future books, because looking back hurts too much.
