Blood and Ruin #3

Blood and Reign: Blood and Ruin, Book 3

Rate this book
With my mates by my side, I know we can get through anything…even if the world burns around us. It all started with King, and it will end with him too. Even if that means I have to hunt him to Hell to finish this. One way or another… One thing’s for sure—King’s reign will end… That I can promise you.

Blood and Reign is a paranormal romance and the final instalment in the Blood and Ruin trilogy. The FMC will not have to choose between her five love interests, but it is action packed so it will contain violence, adult themes, bad-language, and content some may find upsetting.

Just an incredible end to an amazing series!
The way I missed these 5 alphas!
It was so nice getting to know them all on a deeper level and see them grow. Ugh. The way I will dream of an Axel and Jax sandwich.

Thank you Rumor! Cannot wait to read what you write next! 🖤

I had a longer review typed out and Goodreads/Amazon ate it, so the short version is I enjoyed this series less and less as it went on. The males were supposed to be overprotective alphas and just came across as immature and the heroine just found it charming. Not for me.

What a ride! 6 possessive alphas, yes, that includes the FMC. All went through hell as kids and face hell together now.

Pain, face pace action, steam and burning hot smut, banter and choosen family. Fighting for their future family as reluctant powerful hero's, alphas, horny RH 🤭

It's an interesting ride, and we watch them work through things inside as they fight outside for each other.

The series ends with (their version) righteous justice and a HEA. Closed up nicely with a touch of dark revenge 👌🏿 😌

May have to revisit some of those steamy scenes...for science, of course 😉

★3/5! awww Jax and Luka brother relationship is everything, they way they’re always there for each other SO CUTE! now this was definitely a redemption from the second book!

this series wasn’t that good but it wasn’t bad at the same time, it had a lot of potential but oh well. Satisfying ending, everything gets tied up nicely!

This book took too long to get to it’s plot. One or two chapters of one challenge one, but for every duo when it’s is basically the same a bit boring. Loved the covers but this is not my favorite series.

Well I have to say, I was decently happy with how that series ended. With everything going on, I was kind of expecting this series to drag on and then get wrapped up really quickly. A lot of why choose fantasy romances I feel tend to do that. Lead up to a big battle or fight for many books, and then it's over and done with in the space of like two chapters and I'm left like, why? WHY?

This did not do that. The big battle was built up for two books, and then took place over a good good portion of the entire third book. Now that being said, the series still has some flaws. Some plot points that seemingly went nowhere (I still don't understand the idea behind king bonding her in the beginning and how that actually was supposed to work, also the mind palace thing where they could meet? Why did we get that like once and then never again in the series? Also, who were the men that she saw her mom fighting that one time? We get this whole scene set up and then no explanation of who they were?) There was just quite a few crumbs left that ended up going nowhere that were confusing to me.

The why choose aspect was decent. I feel like it evened out more in this book. The ones I felt got left behind in the last book got more attention this book, but even still, it's not my favorite dynamic. I think 3 men is the sweet spot for a why choose. Easier to keep track of everyone and also to divide the attention. Four is a lot, but five is just really hard. It took me until halfway through book two before I had all the men fully figured out and differentiated.

The spice also ramps up in this book as we get a lot more group play and a scene with everyone. Super delicious.

Also the humor ramped up a ton in this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. We got more humor from the guys but also the side characters. Sometimes I feel like in large why choose's the side characters fall away and don't get as much page time. But I enjoyed the new characters we got this book and seeing some more of the other side characters from the other books.

All in all, I still enjoyed the series. It kept me entertained and I did like the main plot.

Overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Spicy content 🌶🌶🌶🌶/5
Spice quality 🔥🔥🔥🔥/5

I absolutely loved this series. I loved that the author gave us more of a look into each of the characters while working it into what was happening in the world.
This book hit me right in the feels with Kiarras mum.
Each of the characters is incredible and went through so much and overcame it, which was refreshing, as sometimes it just doesn't get acknowledged.

The spice in this book is great as well, and I love that each of the guys get their time with Kiarra without it always having to be a group thing.

If you like shifter romances and something fun and unique, then you will definitely like this series! It was a first from this author for me, but it won't be the last!

I absolutely adored Blood and Reign, the third book in the Blood and Ruin Series. I would say book three is the best in this series. I enjoyed reading the other two books, but this book just brought everything together fantastically well.

The story was full of twists and turns and I had my heart in my mouth so many times. It has everything in it. Love, loss, all the supernaturals you can think of and all the kinky feckery you could possibly handle. Characters you'll love & characters you'll hate. Reviewing without spoilers is so hard, but this series is not to be missed. We all want what Kiarra has with her mates. Total acceptance and devotion. Which she also gives back tenfold.

What a rollercoaster that was. I wish I could read it again for the first time. You've captured my heart Rumer Hale and I can't wait to lose my mind in your next book 👀📖🫶🥰🥰

I immensely enjoyed this series but I wish this third book had been a little different. There was a lot that I loved but also a lot I was definitely not a fan of. Yes, Rumer Hale, there is such a thing as too much spice and you wrote it in this book. The first book in the series Blood & Ruin is gold, in my opinion. Action, interesting plot, and the right level of spice. Book two, Blood & Wrath was great as well with increased stakes, and the spice reached the perfect level for my preferences.
But some of the spice scenes in Blood & Reign were a bit much, out of place/random, and really seemed forced. It was like Hale had a specific spice-scene quota, which would just be plain weird.
I did enjoy the way the ending was wrapped up and I will always love these characters. I plan to re-listen to the series back-to-back soon, now that all of the audiobooks are released, and maybe that will help me enjoy book three more. Or maybe I simply wasn’t in the mood for spice today? 🤔
Anyway, four ⭐️ for being one of my favorite reverse harem series and a good book in general.

1.5/5 stars. All my issues with the last two books still stand in this one, although this book had even less plot than the first 2.

Why was almost half the book the 6 of them having an orgy on and off to charge up their bracelets?! That was so unnecessary.... Also like at this point I'm bored of the sex like there is only so many ways you can describe sex and we've been through it all multiple times at this point.

Also the possessive thing was taken way too far, it was just annoying by this point. Especially since all 5 of them were being stupidly possessive it was way too much.

I also don't think I've read any book that uses "fuck" as much as this trilogy did. It was just cringy and felt like the author was trying to be edgy at this point.

Overall this trilogy was fine since it was relatively short but definitely not one I would recommend unless you are really into the "alpha male" thing.

This is the third book of the reverse harem paranormal romance trilogy, Blood & Ruin. Tropes include fated mates, found family, touch her and die and reverse harem. See content warnings for spice and violence.

The Lovely: Much like book two, I loved the characters and their relationships. The alpha’s devotion to the FMC, and her’s to them, is wondrous and alternated between warming and wrenching my heart. I thought the plot and tensioning of this final book was more on par with book one and better than book two. The sequence of events made more sense and the ensign kept me engaged.

Rating: 4/5 Stars 3/5 Spicy flames

Recommendation: For the series as a whole, this was a great conclusion that left me feeling satisfied and answered most of my questions. This isn’t a deep or complex read; it’s more of an easy and delicious read (which is what I needed). I loved this series as a mood read for me and I’m glad I bumped it up my TBR.

A pretty crazy ending

One of the challenges with writing big paranormal stories like with existential threats is working out how to bring it all to an ending that matches the danger. It’s hard to do. Ms Hale has done quite a good job. The concepts become very convoluted at times, but the story is consistent.

This is the third and final book in the series by Rumer Hale, and I think it is definitely the best one! The only thing I disliked about it, was again the constant repetition. The spice was A+++ though, especially the scene of the "group activities" Kiarra and the boys have 🥵🥵🥵🥵. The plot in this book was by far better than the other two. It was more in depth and while their words were constantly repeated, what they were doing wasn't. Kiarra and the guys need to stop King, but he ends up being way more powerful than they thought. To their advantage, they also have more power in them that is just untapped. Kiarra and then guys all struggle deeply with their pasts, even though they are constantly working to get through them. The demons are wreaking havoc in Staten Island and Manhattan. They need to be stopped, by how? And why are they even here to begin with? The only option is to end King, and end him quickly. The guys and Kiarra all travel to the Underworld, to where King has been staying. Lots of violence happens, but all with the same motive, to make sure their family is safe. There was a lot of information uncovered during their trip to the Underworld, powers unknown, family ancestry, guilt they had been holding onto, and even connections know one knew existed. Will they be able to save the world? Will King take over and succeed in his plans? Will everything they have to go through be to much to sacrifice? Definitely recommend anyone stuck on book two, to keep pushing through because it is definitely worth it to read this one. Also recommend to anyone who loves dark fantasy romances with lots of violence but also love.

I really tried

With this being the 3rd and last book I really tried to finish it but I just couldn’t. I never thought I’d say this but there’s too much sex! I like smut as much as the next person but I need plot too and it needs to feel natural, not contrived situations where they “have to have sex” to release energy. Most of the rest of this book is reliving traumas; rambling on about how wonderful their love is and having emotional epiphanies. Add to that that she still can’t pick a tense, alternating between past and present (although admittedly not as badly as the first book), she misses out words, adds in unnecessary ones and uses entirely the wrong word (it’s permeates, not permits!) and I just could not force myself to read anymore.
The potential for a good book is there. A lot of thought has gone into world building and the storyline. The characters need more work so they’re not quite so one dimensional but they did at least all have their own personalities, even if those personalities were simple cliches - the funny one, tortured one, nurturing one, angry one, clever one. A good editor and getting a better balance of action and introspection would make a world of difference.

Book 3 had so much to unpack haha, I will say without a doubt it was my favorite of the bunch, I would give it a 4.5 stars out of 5. I loved getting to see the underworld, see all the baddies, see the group come together. OH and by the way their beast modes go way stronger and some things happened (that I won’t spoil) that were so epic and cool! I could see some amazing art being done for their shifters and how they ended up. So imaginative and awesome.

There were a lot of twists in they book you wouldn’t all see coming. I enjoyed most of them, the only feedback I would give, which ended me keeping this to s 4 star were the trials. I don’t think those particular scenes/moments were done to the same level as the previous scenes. It felt all of the place and jumbled and made it super slow down because we had to see a lot of the same thing happen to the guys in the 3 different pairs. I mean I understand why, to help break those last hurdles but it wasn’t so good for me. Also some things were explained, fullest potential. I can’t go into them since it would spoil the plot and subplots but yeah I was wanting more closure and explanation on some things. The ending of me wasnt as strong as some of the other moments. I did like how Kiarra and her crew did things, the epilogue felt off/rushed to me weirdly.

I thought the secondary characters were phenomenal. Enjoyed the long lost family member making an appearance, her man (even if she puts up a good front with him haha), our friend comes back when the group exits the underworld and she and her mates get to do some buttkicking of their own. I loved the friend Kiarra made in book 2 and how eventually he will get a happy ending. I want him and his brothers (and Kiarra’s bestie) to get a story. I need to know what happens with them 😍😍😍. Also loved the guys battling with their abilities and shifter forms. Loved seeing new transformations after the trials (which worked but I agree with the group could have just been explained hahaha). I really liked seeing the doubts and history play out in the guys, seeing Luka and Rion finally go the final step and get to be with Kiarra was scorching and made my heart so happy. I thought the author did a good job with mixing the story and steam in this one.

Narrators did a great job in this finale! I really felt some of those really hard scenes from their pasts. My heart hurt for them and I got angry on their behalf haha. I thought the evil bad guy was done well, his ultimate demise and balancing of the things was performed well and I was happy to see him be gone! Humor and snark again were highlights in this one. Axel and Jax going at it, seeing Luka and his brother finally team up as they should have been, and Kiarra and her shadow beast and their hilarious relationship and being a little closer to her mom.

Overall I enjoyed this series and will be looking out for more audiobooks from this author in the future. I did really appreciate these were on Spotify so I could use my membership to listen to them. If you love PNR RH and a FMC who is secretly and BA and super ultra rare and strong creature...this one is for you!!

Tedious Bits

I liked the storyline and I didn’t. Honestly there was so much torture it’s hard to believe the fmc wouldn’t have ptsd as well as many other issues. Same for the five male mc they had similar traumatic pasts and it’s hard to believe any of them are functioning adults having. Never actually done the work to get past it. It’s just completely unbelievable that every main character could suffer so horribly yet be sound mind, I get it fit the narrative but as a reader part of being sucked into a story world is believability which even with fantasy creatures can be obtained with correct psychological build up and that’s what this series lacked.

Then added to that they are supernatural but living in New York among humans who I assume are in the know? There’s a massive battle that levels a city and then some but we never know human reaction which is baffling, we don’t even know how humans feel about supernaturals and how the world actually works beyond what the fmc witnessed in her captivity which was obviously a den of depravity and psychopaths.

This specific book had a lot of annoyingly dumb parts it was the last book so the author had to make trials in the most of their hunt for the bad guy to actually introduce everyone’s past which sorry that could have been sprinkled in between all three books. It deeply annoyed me.

I was also annoyed by the fmc powers you finally get her history, told she has a deep well of power, that there’s virtually nothing she can’t do and yet instead of getting super creative with that’s it’s just bland and rather disappointing.

I mean these are fine quick reads and ok like definitely not horrible but these things irked the crap out of me 🤣🤷‍♀️

Also the covers are cool 10/10 on those it’s what got me download them. Sadly even for pretty covers this will never be a series I revisit so I don’t need them for my trophy shelves 😞

Enjoyment level: 3.5 ⭐
Plot: 3.5 ⭐
Characters: 3 ⭐
Spice: 🌶️🌶️
Writing: 3 ⭐
World building: 3⭐
Overall: 3.2 ⭐

This is a fun series to read and it ends ok. I think the best bit of this book was the journey through hell and the challenges that they faced in there. We got a glimpse at the past of each of the mates (except Kai, we still know very little about his history!).

The final battle was ok, but honestly, it seemed like Kiarra was losing her power giving it back to the core and then with no explanation of what had happened she still had it. I was glad she didn't lose it because who likes stories where the FMC loses her power? But it still could have used explanation!

The world building is still non existent which as time went on, especially with the scale of destruction in the war didn't make much sense. Cillian at the end also seemed inconsistent with what we had seen of his character so far. It felt like an attempt to wrap up each of the loose threads, but didn't feel quite right.

The writing is as good as in the previous books, jolting me out of the story often. But I am more used to it, so it didn't bother me as much.

I would have liked King to have been awake at the end! But otherwise his end was fitting. I'm pleased I finished the series.

Much like the other two books, there is plenty of spice with a lot of fluff interspersed with battle scenes. We finally find out what Kiarra is exactly and what the six of them can do. Having them go into the Underworld for the final book was an interesting choice. I enjoyed learning more about these chosen brothers as they battled their inner demons in their own little hellscapes.

My biggest issue with the audiobook (honestly, all the audiobooks in this series) is that they clearly went to the effort of hiring multiple voice actors, but instead of having them all play their own parts, even in chapters from another character's perspective, that chapter's voice actor voices all the characters in it - so you've got Scarlett Everdeen doing the men's voices in Kiarra's chapters, and the male voice actors doing all the male voices in the chapters from one of the Pack's perspectives - which also means that characters get different voices depending on who is voicing the chapter. For example, it really tossed me out of the story to hear Kai speak with a deep voice in one chapter and a nasally male voice in another, and then Scarlett Everdeen voicing him in yet another. It also made it difficult to keep track of who was speaking at times.

Sadly comes across as a wannabe spin-off of “The Bonds that tie series”. It packs in elements like dragons, Dravens, demons, and gods, all centered around the theme of powerful bonds. However, the execution is where it falters dramatically.

The story starts with a promising plotline, reminiscent of the original series' depth and adventure. But it quickly descends into chaos. What begins as a high-stakes mission to save the world inexplicably turns into a bizarre orgy in hell, then shifts again to gladiator fights. This abrupt change in plot and tone is jarring and lacks the sophistication and coherence of its predecessor.

In its attempt to be edgy and different, the book loses sight of what made the original series compelling. Instead of a thoughtful expansion of the established universe, it opts for cheap thrills and shock value. This narrative disarray leaves readers not only confused but also disappointed, especially fans of the original series. In the end, Blood and Reign feels like a missed opportunity, turning a potential epic saga into a fragmented and unfulfilling experience.

Steam 5/5. Strong language 5/5. HEA.
Triggers: Graphic language, Edging, Bondage, Multiple Partners, Torture, Mental/Physical Abuse (Flashbacks), Multiple POV’s.

Blood and Reign was the perfect ending to an amazing series. I absolutely loved Kiarra and her men and the closures that they received from their past traumas were everything!

Jax had me absolutely rolling with laughter constantly with his lighthearted jokes and sexy banter. And the competitions between him and Axel were hilarious. Lucas was perfect as always and without giving any spoilers, definitely stole the show for me! I feel like I didn’t get enough time with Rion as I would have liked, but I still loved those moments with my favorite basilisk alpha, and of course Kai was every bit amazing as the last 2 books. I have no words to explain just how badass Kiarra was, but I’m pretty sure she is one of my all time favorite FMC. The growth that she went through and twists she endured only made me love her more!

I am so pleased with this book and am looking forward to see what Rumer Hale will come out with next!

Easy read but no depth

This book Series has so much potential. Its all surface e level and no depth or development. things just happen and then we move on.

In this third book, you finally get to dive into the characters a bit more, learning their traumas and histories. There is action and adventure broken up by some spicy scenes. The guys and Kiarra are off to get king and end it all so the end doesn't come to them. The journey was surprising and a little out of left field at times. I wish their was more character development - bc there are some good characters we should be diving into and they're just getting glossed over. This book has all the surface level without the depth. It's a quick read and entertaining. Has more spice than book 1 or 2. And it has a HEA. No one ever talks about anything tho - the only feelings shared are the guys repeating how much they love her. Kiarra never discusses what she goes thru, about literally anything. Neither do the guys. We learn their histories thru a weird memory dump trial experience.
