From the award-winning author of Unspoken Bond comes a poignant story of two people's journeys to love and healing, and the extraordinary dog that inspired them both.
Finally heading home to the ranch he inherited, Brendon McMahon has a lot on his mind. He's tortured because he needs to tell complete stranger, Allison Hartley, that he was the one responsible for her husband's death. As he is heading home, he saves a starving dog at a lonely rest stop. It's a pivotal decision that will change not only his life, but the lives others.
Allison Hartley has finally made peace with the past, living through her own tragic events. She has built a new life with her son, and she now owns a successful local business. Staying busy fills her time, but not her heart. When she meets Brendon, her fluttering heart tells her he could be the one.
As their love intensifies, so does the secret that Brendon holds, causing old demons to surface; ones that Brendon thought he had extinguished. Will the secret tear them apart or will they be able to weather the firestorm coming their way?
A richly textured story with emotion and unexpected twists, Trust Me is a reminder of how fragile and precious life is, how life is a journey filled with love and despair, and how true love can inspire the hero within all of us - even the four legged kind.
Lets see, take a sweet story of a stray dog getting rescued (yes, I'm a sucker for dog stories), combine it with a nice romance story complete with the usual angst and drama (some predictable of course, but what do you expect for a romance), then throw in a recipe for peanut butter cookies (mentioned in the story, recipe included at the back of the book!) and a tenacious squirrel who plays almost a key part in the outcome of one of the story characters (I kid you not!) and you get Trust Me.
This was a quick yet enjoyable read for me, but what can I say, I am a sucker for romance, dogs, squirrels, and COOKIES!
I never finished this because I got bored so take this review with a grain of salt as I don't know if it got any better. I believe that there are key elements to any story and the first ingredient is a beginning that draws the reader into the world that the author is trying to create. This book lacked that core element. I think that I put it down and went on to other books. Maybe one day I will get back to it and then be able to give it a more valuable review.- jess
I love books about dogs and their relationship with their humans, so I loved Bo's part in this book. I really enjoyed the relationship between Brendan and Allison too. I now find myself at 6 am due to the fact I couldn't put it down! The description of the fire was gripping, and I just had to finish the book!
I always enjoy books that involve animals in the story this was first time reading one by this author and I had already downloaded one of the other books the author talks about and will be getting the other one
A heartwarming story with a dog, a boy, love. and some mystery! I couldn't put it down. I look forward to reading more books like this one and am now a big fan of Blake O'Connor!
The premise of this story was good. The characters were, mostly likeable. However, too many terrible tragedies were interwoven through the story, exhausting this reader. A little tragedy, good, too much, a story killer
Author's voice is strongest when she speaks for her canine characters. Human dialogue is stilted and strained. Her plot depends on too many unbelievable contrivances. Still it is readable and enjoyable.
I loved the second novel by Blake O'Connor. And can't wait to start the third. Her writing makes you relate to the characters in the story and how much animals are an integral part of our lives and bring us such good company and joy
Sweet story about finding the right one only to find that if you don't deal with the past, it will deal with you. Loved that part of the story was based on a historical event.
I picked up this book because of the cover. First time ever. Had a dog on it with Trust Me. I did. What a delightful experience I had reading this book. I was so excited that the squirrel lived, the other didn't. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
Wonderful read. Characters were believable . I'll miss them. I went through the Campfire almost a year ago, Nov.8th. While reading Trust Me, I knew the author knew. Fire personally because of her descriptions, amazing!
Expecting a more original story with a prominent role for dog Bo, I felt a little disappointed with this cookie-cutter love story. Don’t get me wrong, it has its moments, but, for me, it lacked authenticity, originality, and equally important, it lacked good syntax. I thought I got the idea behind the book, but it was all a little too déjà-vu in the end. I’ve read it all before. In finale, it was too rosy for me. You will get the idea from the synopsis. What bothered me the most were little things, like Allie’s attitude, she lacked gravitas. What more, I couldn’t understand Allie and Susan being “best friends”, while it was clear that Susan wanted to push any suitor Allie’s way, including that awful Lee Mercer, dog-hater and all that's bad. How can a "best friend" not know that? I like the male hero, Brendon better than Allie. His characterization was consequent; he held up. Allie, on the other hand, was depicted as a "strong" woman. For me she was too wishy-washy. No not what I expected – and yes somewhat disappointing.
Lots of different things going on in this book, but most are anticipated and expected. Not being fond of "mush" novels, I will describe this one as too much syrup, not enough pancake. I admit that I skimmed over much of it, thinking "yadda, yadda, yadda" and speed read the rest. Not being one to not finish a book, I was somewhat relieved when it was over. The author attempted to pile a lot of ideas into this; murder, robbery, child neglect, guilt, love, forrest fire, house fire, construction, interior design, and even included a recipe for peanut butter cookies! Yee Gads.
Quick easy summer read about a former police officer who thinks he shot a man to death in an alleged robbery two years ago, how he returns home to small town TX to ask forgiveness from the man's wife but ultimately falls in love with her and her son. Very predictable but still enjoyable for a summer read
Although this book was predictable. It was very enjoyable to read and I loved the part the dogs played in this novel. If you are looking for easy reading and you are a dog lover this is a good book to read in an afternoon.
Interesting and hopeful showing the power and endurance of the human spirit. Not enough involving the role of the dog in the events of the human events playing out. Too obvious bad guy.
I gave this book three stars because I felt the authors attempt to wrap up the story was a little too improbable. But otherwise it was a good read about two people falling in love under unusual circumstances.
Predictable plotline without much depth. Characters are flat. Dialogue is not believable and not likeable. I would not recommend this book to anyone, not because it's bad as much as boring.
My favorite kind of book is fiction based on facts. Although I'm not overly fond of books about wild fires, this book held me tight till the end. Do yourself a favor and pick up Blake O'Connor's books. All of them. You won't be disappointed.
This was a very touching story about how two dogs were rescued by different families and also a story book romance. It is about survival and most of all...trust.
I rated this boo 5 stars plus because it is all that and more. I experienced the emotions the characters in this book went through. This book was alive with feeling and emotions. This is a book worth recommending to anyone who enjoys a good adventure story as well as a love story that revolves around a family and the trials that happen. Elouise Saunders
