You think you know what is right and what is wrong? Then tell me if this man should die. He is my enemy. He is to be my end. He is the one I love. I have spent my life in shades of gray. I have died and returned to a world of color. I have fought an angel and lived. I have kissed the Prince of Ravens. I have faced the Lord of Night and made him kneel. I was accepted into the Four Orders, and I created the fifth. I freed the Shadow of Rome. I sat upon the Twilight Throne. The man asks for my surrender. He asks for peace. He is too late. The girl he knew is gone, and death is in her place. I am Nightfall, and this is my story. You think you know it? Think again.

✅ Nice cover
✅ World-building
✅ Nephilims, Zeniths, and special powers
✅ Plot and plot twists
✅🆗 Pace
✅🆗 Characters
🆗 A clueless teenager leading a group of rebel

Ok, the summary seems so interesting and badass, but honestly, this is not what happens in this book. It is a good book, but there is no Raven prince or Lord of Night yet, no 5th Order, and no discussion about killing the man Scarlett loves I guess it will be in the next books…? This is the story of a young woman who fights against all odds to do what is right, to defend the weak, and to give a voice to the oppressed, while forming new alliances and friendships. As far as “coming-of-age” stories go, this is a good one.

Some parts of this book are worth 4.5 or 5 stars and I was really into it, but the slower pace at the beginning, some decisions of the MC, and the overall plot were not that amazing, so I’m giving it 3.5 stars.

I've spent my life in shades of grey. It wasn't until I died that my world filled with color.

Scarlett Night is a young colorblind girl and her ultimate dream is to become a pilot and a knight. The first 40% of the book follows Scarlett as she grows up, always keeping her dream in mind, but also realizing that the world is unfair and developing a strong sense of justice, and a need to defend the ones that are not treated fairly or equally. It all changes one night when her whole life is upended and she realizes that her life has mostly been a lie, that her parents are not who they say they are, and that they all need to run from a mysterious someone and to protect a mysterious weapon. Scarlett finds herself entangled in patrician politics and rebel scheming and she will need to pick a side.

I loved the world-building in this book. History and information about politics and hierarchy are given when needed in the story, they are not just dumped in the first chapters and they are not all given at the same time. In this society, patricians are rulers and plebeians are inferiors. The dregs of the society are the Zeniths: plebeians with paranormal abilities inherited from their Angelic ancestry. Since the humans spent decades being at war against the Nephilims and eradicating them, anyone who has traces of angelic or Nephilim blood in their veins is seen as inferior, their family having sinned in the past by having sexual relationships with the enemy.

Scarlet is a good main character, for most of the book. She is strong, resilient, fierce, and fights for what she believes is right, but she is also reckless and impulsive at times, and it made her appear immature sometimes. She was forced to become an important player in the game of politics and rebellion that is happening in the world, but instead of letting all that pressure break her, she uses it to become stronger. The thing is, for the first half of the book I liked her and her resiliency. I liked her seriousness and wariness when she arrived at Castle V, she didn’t trust just anyone she met. After that though, it started getting weird and I couldn’t always relate to her. She makes some rash and stupid decisions in the name of vengeance, instead of being the strategist she prides herself to be. Also, why isn’t she more angry or resentful towards Jax? Why isn’t she questioning Zorin and his motives more? She’s described as a super-intelligent character, but she believes everything that Zorin tells her without questions

I have to say though, that even if there is a logical reason explaining why she’s the one in charge, it bugged me that the people around her who were older and/or more experienced just let her lead. She even calls them “my generals”… But she’s 18 yo and spent her life as a recluse with her parents! I get that she’s driven and brilliant and a great strategist, but I would still let someone else lead, at least for a few weeks or months.

The writing of this book was not bad, but I did notice a few tiny typos, and the transitions between the scenes were not always fluid. Also, the sentence “And then all goes black” was clearly overused here. The MC would get beaten, knocked out, or stabbed, “and then all goes black”, and she wakes up in the next chapter.

I will give a chance to the second book because I enjoyed parts of this one enough to want to continue, but if Scarlett continues to act the way she is now I might give up on this series.

OH MAN That synopsis had me grabbing for a way to get this book as soon as I read it! This book was recommended to me by a subscriber, see I do read your recommendations!

Didn't really know what I was getting into when I picked this up, but I'm overall glad I did! At first, once I finished the book I sat back and thought, "what did I just read?"
qziygsxeppyp6Confused? okay, this is seriously a crazy interesting book. It starts out with Sarlett and she is colorblind...completely. Yet she is determined to be the one things she's ever wanted to be and that is a pilot. Scarlett has everything going for her, but then one night her life is completely turned upside down and life as the author starts out with...completely ends. One night things happen and her parents then open up this whole mystery and weapon that they are protecting and then....Scarlett's parents are murdered in front of her, she faces angels or angelic beings, now she has this weapon, and questions...so many questions. Confused? yeah it's starts of so brilliantly.

Scarlett then finds out her best friend, Jax (her secret crush) has been withholding information and secrets from her her and takes her to the Order. The Order is a group of people charged with protecting humans from Nephilim. Once there she also meets the grandfather she never knew she had and learns about the secrets her parents and Jax have been keeping throughout her entire life. During all this Scarlett begins to experience changes … changes that indicate she might be becoming the very thing the order is fighting against. dun, Dun, DUN!!!!

There were a TON of twists and turns I totally didn't see coming and I appreciated a good surprise. The author does a great job of constantly making you question who you should trust and who are the good guys and the bad.

FLYLeF Book Reviews

Original Post: Court of Nightfall (Nightfall Chronicles 1) at FLYLēF (www.flylef.com)

ONE LATE NIGHT, or you could say very early morning, I was perusing through Kindle Unlimited and came across Court of Nightfall (The Nightfall Chronicles 1). The narrator of the synopsis was hypnotic. She sounded so powerful, so haunting, so…promising.
You think you know what is right and what is wrong? Then tell me if this man should die. He is my enemy. He is to be my end.

He is the one I love.

The man asks for my surrender. He asks for peace. He is too late. The girl he knew is gone, and death is in her place. I am Nightfall, and this is my story. You think you know it?

Think again.
I knew then that I had to know her story.

Her name is Scarlett Night. Born colorblind, Scarlett has never used that as a crutch to prevent her from pursuing her dream of becoming a pilot. She works hard for what she wants – there is no one more dedicated. This makes her very relatable and likeable. Everything changes when an avenging angel descends upon her family, and she discovers that her “normal” parents are anything but. Her life is upended. She seeks comfort in the one person who has always been there for her and the one she secretly loves – Jaxton Lux. But, she soon finds out that he may be her greatest threat of all.

Scarlett is a heroine born from extreme pressure, but out of that pressure emerges a diamond of unparalleled brilliance. She seeks to defend the weak and give voice to the repress. Seeing her blossom into a young woman who overcomes hardships by doing what is right as oppose to what is easy, while still finding love and friendship in the process, makes Court of Nightfall one of the best coming-of-age stories.

However, I mean no disrespect to the dynamic husband (Dmytry Karpov) and wife (Kimberly Kinrade) team under the pen name Karpov Kinrade, I struggle to rate this book higher than 4 because of the errors I found. “There re only three ranks above him in the world…” is one of myriad errors I encountered. Otherwise, I absolutely enjoyed everything else!

First off thank you to Karpov Kinrade for providing me with an ARC of Court of Nightfall 1: The Last Nephilim.

Okay this cover. Amazing right? It captivates you and makes you want to read it, at least it did for me. Yay for a great cover!

So it is review time...
I loved this book! So Court of Nightfall 1: The Last Nephilim is about Scarlett Night, an eighteen-year-old, colorblind girl who dreams of flying a plane. Her whole world changes one night when her parents are killed and she learns about a society that they were a part of. She learns the night that her parents died that Scarlett died as well. She is no longer colorblind and now she is craving blood. Through it all Scarlett's best friend Jax is the only person in her life who is still alive, but can she trust him? With an unexpected ally, Scarlett learns that the society her parents fought for might not be as good as everyone believes they are. Filled with tons of twists and OMG moments that will leave you waiting for the next book, Karpov Kinrade sure knows how to write a suspense paranormal book. I can't wait for the next book.

Some of my favorite quotes:
-I've spent my life in shades of grey. It wasn't until I died that my world filled with color.

-Sometimes pain can serve as a reminder to finish what we start.

-Remember, little Star, it's easy to fight, but much harder to know when. When to fight. When to win...When to lose.

-I have to train to become a Knights Templar so I can destroy the Angel who killed my family. I must avenge them.

-Revenge. A universal motive amongst any race.

I received a free copy of Hitched from the authors in exchange for an HONEST review. I also had the wonderful opportunity to BETA read this story.

Court of Nightfall is about Scarlett Night, an eighteen-year-old, colorblind girl with big dreams of becoming an airplane pilot. Her life changes suddenly when her parents reveal that they have been working with the Church Vianney since before she was born and that they are in danger because they have been protecting a weapon that could destroy mankind. When danger strikes before the weapon can be moved, she loses everything and is thrust into a world she doesn't understand. In order to avenge her parents, she must trust carefully and protect the innocent at all costs.

The story did flow wonderfully, however.

I would recommend Court of Nightfall to older teens and adults that enjoy paranormal-fantasy and science-fiction novels.

Overall, I am deeply impressed by the first book in this new series by Karpov Kinrade. I went in with different expectations of what I would find only to have my mind blown. Scarlett is easily one of my favorite characters from any of their works, period. She is so down-to-earth and so real. It was hard letting the book end. I wish I could have prolonged it and enjoyed the story for longer. I can't wait for the next in this series. As always, the author duo Karpov Kinrade does not disappoint. I love the raw urgency they injected into this story. It really puts the reader right into the action and leaves them hanging from the edge of their seat in desperation and suspense. Absolute writing genius!

There's nothing more disappointing than when Goodreads lies to me. It's a well known fact I read nothing below a 4 star rating on this site, so when a book is rated about 4 I assume it must be worth something, but this book isn't even worth the 1 star I gave it.

The book description was so badass, and the premise was so interesting and so unlike anything I've ever read before, and I SO wanted to like this book I wanted it to become my new Angelfall or Rephaim series but it fell so so short.

Shoddy plot, non-fluid transition from scene to scene, and the pathetic excuse for a main character was so mary-sue that she was worse than my own mary-sue I created back when I was a wee girl of 12 years old.

SUCH a disappointment, I'm so sad I'm gonna have to take the night off from reading to overcome this feeling that I'll never find another good book to read because everything seems to be like this drivel lately.

0.5/5 stars

So I didn't read the blurb before I got this book, I am a sucker. As it happens Amazon recommended this book and since it was free I decided to get it. I literally just read the review and it is not at all what happened in the book, I can imagine how disappointed I would have been had I bought this book based on it.

I enjoyed it, I liked Scarlett. I liked how the author was able to make me believe that she was wiser than her age without her being snobbish or freakishly special as most NA/YA are wont to do. They were instances were I had to suspend belief because things didn't add up but I was willing to over look it.

We follow Scarlett's life from when she is 9 years old till she is about 18/19. I liked her and can't wait to read more.

this is an okay read...at times I thought of rating it five stars..
but at the end, as this is a part of a series I don't plan on finishing, I guess
3,5 stars is a good rating...

the blurb does't give anything away so maybe that is a good thing...
know that if you like books with leading teen heroine, fight between good and bad, angels, sacrifice, emotional connection to the story, many love interests, friendships... give it a go

I haven't read these authors before...
I might try something else..
Maybe...

Scarlett is a freaking boss!

Scarlett, the MC, is colorblind.. but does that stop her from doing whatever she wants or setting up huge dreams for herself? Hell no it doesn't! From there you see that her family is holding information about her from her. Then there's Jax, her best friends but also seems to be stuck in his ways and is also keeping secrets from her. Seriously, so much deception in this book that it was mind blowing. I honestly liked Jax at the beginning.. then I didn't like him. Sorry, but don't get in between my girl Scarlett and her god damn mission in life. EVER.

Then there's a huge secret, okay.. a couple, that you find out and I WAS SHOOK GUYS. Oh god, that ending! What a god damn cliffhanger.. I want the next book but I also don't want it because the grandpa scares the shit out of me and I don't want to be disappointed either..

UGH! I'm conflicting myself and I don't even have the book at the moment.

Overall, I really liked it. Enjoyed the heck out of reading it. I want more. So so so much more.

Very generic and bland YA book. Also, the worldbuilding was all over the place. I couldn't bring myself to finish. Such a shame because the cover is stunning and the blurb promised something much more interesting then what I got.

Scarlett Night lives in a futuristic, dystopia world where Nephilim were eradicated in a war, some people have psychic abilities and hackers are burned at the stake. All Scarlett ever wanted was to be a pilot but she was born color blind. This book is fantastic! I was truly digging it. The writing is so good. I think the best I've read by Karpov Kinrade, the husband and wife writing team. I've read a lot by them of the erotic nature, but this book is seriously the best. The pacing is so good. You are drawn in right away into the story and then are hooked, and have got to keep reading to find out what is going on and what will happen next. The characters are interesting and sympathetic. What a great book! 5 stars.

This is a MUST READ! I love the writers, and I have read a lot of their other books before. I follow them on FaceBook so I saw the start of the promotion of this series. I honestly didn't think I would like it. It's not the genre I typically enjoy. But...now I am a believer. I LOVED it! I started reading it pretty late at night and I couldn't put it down. They give you enough in the beginning about Scarlet Night that you instantly like her and are therefor vested in her story. Then, before you know it, the action starts. There's no getting bored. She loses her parents and her life in the first few chapters. It's nonstop, edge of your seat, action packed excitement with this one. I was so glad I took a chance outside of the box to read this one. I can't wait for more of this series.

I read this in a day, and although I'm still digesting, I feel compelled to write out my thoughts in hopes that it'll clear up how I feel about it. Apologies in advance for my ramblings.

This is random, but I love the character names. I've discovered that when characters have ill-fitting, or ridiculous names, I can't relate. In this, everyone fits their name beautifully.

The plot twists - I loved them. They were just interesting enough to keep me guessing. The pacing was great, I especially liked how things unfolded and we got to learn about Scarlett's life before the action started. The introduction into the sci-fi-era technology and the Angel/Nephlim world building was mostly well done. I only had a few moments of confusion while reading, especially regarding the history of the world.

Here's where things get tricky. Scarlett's character. The first portion of the book, I loved her. She's a somewhat young 18-year-old. I think what makes me think of her as young is her bashful crush on Jax. When all the craziness happens with the attack, and she gets brought before the Orders, I loved her stoicism and silent thoughts. It was nice to see a young character not in hysterics.

But then....somewhere along the line, Scarlett's emotional responses start to ring false. She's not angry enough for me. It's like she sporadically becomes an old wise man, and then jumps to an impulsive teenager. Why isn't she feeling resentful and betrayed by Jax and her parents after she learns that her whole life has been a quasi lie? Then with Zorian, why isn't she questioning his motives? Why does she just believe the things she's being told, especially given how her parents have raised her? She's such an intelligent character, this blind belief doesn't mesh. Also, the attempted stabbing in the name of vengeance....what is that? She-who-covers-her-hacking-tracks-at-all-costs would just walk up to someone in the middle of the day and kill them? Doesn't fit.

Then there are plot issues that just didn't add up for me. Why would a government agency that won't let Scarlett fly if she's color blind let her fly a plane unescorted from New York to Montana? Also, if she's checking her room at the castle for listening devices, why doesn't she think "they'd" follow her home to a crime scene?

So....yeah. I liked it, but. The potential is there for this to be a kick-ass story, it just needs some fine tuning.

The new, revised Court of Nightfall was superb!

To begin with, the cover is incredible. It is beautiful, stunning and spectacular! And once you've read the novel, the cover makes complete sense with the story.

Now for the review...
The story follows a color-blind teenage girl named Star as she copes with some interesting, supernatural aspects in her life. Her parents are hiding secrets from her, her best friend Jax might not be who he says he is and there's something special about her that just seems off. And to tie it all up, Nephilim are a serious issue.

Karpov and Kinrade did an excellent job writing this novel. It is a fantasy-type novel with suspense and thrills at every turn. The novel does start off at a slow pace, but this is because the novel is explaining Star's back story and preparing the reader with information needed further along in the novel.

This new, revised version also gave more information on the characters. There is more back story and drama which makes the characters more believable and made me feel more attached to Star, Jax and all of their fellow characters.

At the beginning, all of the terms thrown at the reader, such as Templar and Nephilim, can seem confusing to the reader, but Karpov and Kinrade explain them thoroughly throughout the novel, so by the end the reader understands almost everything going on in the nvoel.

Overall, this novel is spectacular. My opinion has not changed on Karpov and Kinrade - they can write a hit that is thrilling, suspenseful, and leaves you anticipating the next novel.

Five out of five stars!

OMG so ok this book is amazing!!!!!! I was given a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review and let me just say one thing I was very upset when it ended I mean wow did not expect that. I can't say anymore without giving spoilers so I just want to tell you that this is my kinda book I love the supernatural side and everything and this is one of my top books I love the way Scarlet is portrayed she is a wonderful head strong girl and hope she can be the hero they need. Jax I'm a little iffy about I like his closeness too Scarlet but not sure where he will end up. I just finished the revised copy and wow is all I can say I was very worried that I might not like the book because I had loved the way it was originally written but they never fail to impress me this is going to be hands down one of my favorite series. This is a must read please pre-order if you like other books by the kinrade's then you will love this one.

This is the first book of a new series and I am hooked. Scarlett is 18 years old and trying to get her pilot's license, which isn't easy to do when you're color blind. Suddenly her entire life changes. Now she is all about revenge and adjusting to the way things are now. She doesn't know who she can trust anymore, so she trusts no one. The world was easy to get into and there was plenty of action. There were twists around every corner, making me race through the pages. I loved this book and was left wanting more. Can't wait for the next book!

**ARC Review**
This book will have you hooked from the beginning. There is a lot of action and strategy maybe even a hint of possible romance.

Scarlett has always lived in a world of black, white, and gray. As she struggles to become a pilot her entire world os being flipped upside down. After hanging with a friend she comes home to discover that the life she has been living has been a lie. As she tries to uncover the truth her life continues to change. She may never find out all of the truth on her own. She decides to team up with her grandfather, best friend, and Zorin to get all the facts.

The Chancellor, Scarlett's grandfather, knows what she is and is trying to train her and aid her from his position on the council though he has to be careful not to be caught. Scarlett's best friend, Jax, may not be normal but he is also extremely loyal. even when given the chance at an out that will save his life he stays loyal. He plans on helping to train Scarlett and change the way of the Order from the inside with her by his side. Zorin is believed to he the greatest weapon, but many are afraid of what he is and what he is capable of. He is training Scarlett in her new abilities and assisting her as she tries to take down the Order and find the peraon responsible for killing her parents in front of her.

Karpov Kinrade know howbtobwrite one hell of a story! I am excited for the next book in this series!

First, thank you SO much to the authors for providing me with an ARC ebook.

How can I only have 5 stars to give this one?! I need way more than that! The authors have outdone themselves with this book. At first glance of the cover, I knew I was going to love this. I was wrapped up in this title from word one.

Scarlett Night's world changes in the blink of an eye. She is colorblind and trying to pass her test to be a pilot - all she's ever wanted to do is fly. Her world is rocked by tragedy and everything changes. This story has action, paranormal elements like para-powers and shifters, hints of possible relationships to come. I highlighted so many fun quotes in this story: (quotes from ARC)

"There would never be any mistaking this man for mortal. Every inch of him screamed power, magic, danger."

"My heart raced in my chest, knocking against my ribs as if it could escape this fool body and find someone with better self-preservation instincts."

There are many more, but I don't want to ruin this awesome story for you. If you love dystopia, paranormal, urban fantasy, YA, action, adventure, etc. then you will love this story as much as I did. I honestly cannot wait for the next book in this series! I have found a fantastic new series to love. Karpov Kinrade continues to impress me as they dominate every genre they write in.

Kim and Dmytry's are just amazing. They are like the kid in English class that gets an a on every writing prompt no matter the topic. I don't think that they have any boundaries. They will surpass any line drawn. This new series The Court of Nightfall is just remarkable. A little scifi a little paranormal a little mystery and I wonder if we might even find a hint of romance by the end of the series. Scarlett is a very complex character starting with the sympathy you feel for her "disability " to the rage you feel for her loss and the pride you feel for her determination and strong sense of righting the wrongs. Even when she can do anything she ever imagined and more she chooses to help the people. Where would you ever find a eighteen year old that would do that. This story keeps you awe struck till the end. I am dying for the next part.

Thank you for sending me an ARC of this for an honest review!

Court of Nightfall is about a girl, Scarlett Night, with big dreams for her future. When she finds out her parents have been keeping secrets (really big ones) her life changes forever. I love these covers! This book is amazing and I can't wait to read House of Ravens! I don't think the Goodreads description is very good though. Court of Nightfall reminds me of Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. It didn't have as much romance as I was expecting from the summary (which is good because I don't like big romance books). Some of the plot twists I could predict but others I couldn't! The descriptions are great too. I could almost feel what the character was feeling! Such a cliffhanger at the end! I hope Myrddin comes back in the next book!

Omg I just finished! !!!! This book did not fall into my 2 genre categories I love to read- mystery and romance, both with HEA endings, but DAMN yall are amazing! I bought into this world hook line and sinker. My heart starting racing with Stars! I found myself wanting to kill Ragathon many times! This is the first book in a series however the cliffhanger ending is not bad. it leaves you feeling satisfied and anxious for more. The only BAD thing about being one of the first people to read your books, even with seduced series is that i have to WAIT For the next one! !! Karpov Kinrade outdid themselves again. I could not put this book down. And I can't wait for the next one in the series. I highly recommend. And hope after reading this book, you will read the rest of their books. From a children's series, to mystery romance, to fantasy, this author will keep you going.

I had the opportunity to read the newest version of this book! I was blown away! The first version I read was great and I loved it! But this one goes beyond that! I felt I was reading a whole new book! The background and characters were expanded into this amazing story! It is a must read!

This really surprised me! I've not read many books about angels and i wasn't sure I'd enjoy it but I really did, the plot was action packed from the beginning and the main character Scarlett was very strong, and not like most ya heroines and i really enjoyed that. The last quarter of the book had me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait to continue on with this series! Was a very quick entertaining read.
