Casting Shadows: Lazarus Codex Series, Book 10

Rate this book
Old sins cast long shadows even Death can't hide from.

It's been a year since Lazarus went to Hell to free Emma's soul. With Loki gone, things are finally starting to settle down for the Pale Horseman.

At least until a dangerous supernatural virus forces New Orleans to grind to a halt. With thousands of innocent people infected, Lazarus must find the source and shut it down before it becomes a global pandemic. Just when he thinks he's got it under control, refugees from Faerie arrive with dire news. If the creature behind the deadly virus isn't stopped, Earth could be decimated...just as Faerie was.

The monster responsible is unlike any Lazarus has faced before, and this is just his opening gambit. But this new foe is about to find out there's nothing more dangerous than a man without a plan.

Things seem to be settling down for Laz, but then a mysterious illness comes along and he has to figure out how to fight something that is not physical. I know I keep saying it but this series just gets better and better as it goes along and keeps you eagerly waiting for the next one.

Casting Shadows - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Having worked overtime to buy a ring, Lazarus ('Laz') Kerrigan, (necromancer, Shadow Mage, King of the Court of Miracles and Death (aka The Pale Horseman), has big plans and is ready to propose to his policewoman girlfriend Emma, (whom he recently saved from a fate worse than death at the hands of evil Norse god, Loki), in Casting Shadows, the 10th fantastic novel in The Lazarus Codex series, by the amazing E.A Copen.

As usual, Fate has other ideas and Laz is soon taking on a new, demonic enemy, Mask, aiming to defeat him by whatever means necessary, before the whole of New Orleans and all his loved ones and friends are destroyed by the ancient forces of darkness that Mask serves.

An intelligently-written, well developed and totally engaging storyline, has characters who are so well-known and beloved by avid fans of the series, that it is as if one were part of the whole fascinating, scary, romantic, uplifting, heroic, terrible, wonderful adventure, to such a degree, that it's hard to accept you've actually come to the end of the book - for now, at least - and have to come back down to the reluctant reality of your daily life. Four words...get Casting Shadows today!

Anything that starts with Hades dealing cards is going to be a great read, and this installation of the Lazarus Codex series does not disappoint. It's the 10th book, and there is a great deal of backstory, so I suggest reading the previous books first.

The description of the book - Lazarus trying to find and deal with a supernatural virus that has spread across New Orleans is spot on, but it can't encompass the sheer fun and excitement of reading a book that has been carefully thought out and plotted. The fae are involved, of course, and other creatures as well. Lazarus's past actions come into play and it's fun seeing what Author Copen has done with them.

Lazarus is awesome as always and Author Copen does an amazing job over a series having him grow and change in a logical manner. Other characters from the previous books are in this one and they too have changed and developed. It's a joy reading a series where this happens.

Do not fear, it is not the last book and a tantalizing last chapter leads this reader to hop up and down in hope for a swift continuation.

I was given an ARC of this book and have chosen to review it.

Casting Shadows is Book 10 in the Lazarus Codex. This series just gets better with each new addition. We are at Book 10 and I do not want the series to end. E.A. Copen has created a masterpiece with her phenomenal imagination. Her prose draws you into the story and keeps you turning pages to the last page and leaves you wanting more. I love Lazarus and how he has developed throughout this series, he is an exceptionally well developed character. In this story Lazarus is facing the threat the Mask and is causing and fortunately he has help from Josiah, Finn, Remy and others from previous books. I can not praise this marvelous series enough. It is one I highly recommend but be sure you start with Death Rites, Book 1. You will not be sorry you did. I received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Yes, the book is excellent! This is an easy review because in the author notes in the end I found I was upset over the ending! Lazarus is the key character and the fight is on to save the world and destroy the mask! Helpers include Remy, Finn, Foxglove, Drake, Nate, Oden, and very important Emma!
All I can say is the story has plot twists but you will definitely need Kleenex for the tear jerker part of the story!
You, will love the book but the ending, hmmmm.

Edge of your seat excitement and action as Lazarus maneuvers through another twisty plot trying to save New Orleans, Fairie, and those he loves. With his quirky friends, and the vague hints of Odin and Samedi he tries to piece together a plan to vanquish another evil foe. I never know which way the plot will take me…It’s based on magic, and magic is as likely to sideways as the direction it was intended. Recommended
