“With the final ascension, she will be complete. Dark, Light, Justice, and Balance to join together with Blood as one….”
The Balance has been irrevocably altered, and I’ve found myself in the clutches of a blood mage. One that I find myself drawn to in more ways than one. I didn’t think it possible. Another mate? I could barely handle the three I already had.
Our bond circle is tested as the true enemy emerges from the shadows. We must fight together as one or we will all fall.
The fate of the world lies in my hands. Alone, I’m not powerful enough to save it. Can I depend on my mates to get along and join together to fight against the evil threatening us?
Dark. Light. Justice. Blood. My mates surround me, and I must trust them if I am to survive this battle.
For together we are strong. Divided we will fall.
Am I strong enough to keep my mates together and fight the balance at the same time, or will the realms be thrown into chaos?
Balance Altered is a why-choose romance that contains content for mature audiences only. It will have MM and group sexual situations, action, fighting, and a seriously sarcastic angel. You have been warned.
The first book in this series was really exciting. I especially loved the mythology, the way hell worked and even more Lucifer and Lilith and how they interacted with the other characters in this story. I was therefore very excited to read the second book in this series. Luckily for me I got an ARC via a Facebook group and the moment it came in I knew it was gonna be the next book I would read. So, yesterday morning I picked it up.
However, for some reason I didn't feel the excitement I felt during the first book while reading this second book and it's quite hard to pinpoint why. I guess it has mostly to do with the fact that the aspects of the stories I found the most interesting were not really prominent in this second book. The entire book takes place in only two different locations and we don't learn many new things about the world or the different species around.
The mystery of the book also seems to be on hold until the very end of the book. I'm totally fine with character bonding and I really love how we got to know Malik a lot better in this book, but I personally would have liked a little more plot in this book and a little less sex. That doesn't mean I don't like the dynamics between these characters. I really love Gabe, how he's different from the other angels and how he really found a home with this bunch of people.
And of course I really love Lana, our leading lady. I have to admit that she seems to have a little too many powers. I understand that she's special and someone the world has waited for for a very long time, but personally those heroines who are so amazing and can do everything also seem a little unrealistic. Or maybe better said, it's impossible to imagine yourself as a person like that. It's easier to connect with someone if they're more human, more vulnerable and with some more flaws.
However, there is a big and final battle coming and I'm really excited to read how it ends!
I am enjoying this series... but can't find the audiobook for the 3rd book.
A RH, FMC lead, angels, faie, and demons, MM, MF, and MMFMM all within the mate circle. They do accept things a little too easily for me. But it makes for a less angst filled plot, more growth, development, and finding their feet.
There's more emotional bits that should tug at your heart. Spice, well, it's on fire really, the smex is good with different POV during the smex, making the smut 🔥
We get a little action, but it's all a slowly piece by piece chess game type fight. I still feel like I don't know the characters as much as I have liked others... but I do like them enough to want book 3. It's just not an instant need to find out what happens. All of that is contradiction, I know... I just can't explain in. Feel like the series could be addictive if rewritten, maybe with another author like the twisted sisters... but right now, it's not overly anything right now.
“With the final ascension, she will be complete. Dark, Light, Justice and Balance to join together with Blood as one…”
This is a great series, one that i look forward to each book as they come out and this latest addition is oh so good! It’s a rollercoaster ride of action, adventure, excitement, drama, romance, humour, suspense and twists and turns I did not see coming. I totally recommend you start with the prequel otherwise it may not make sense but you will not be disappointed, this is a great reverse harem full of steam and you will not be able to put it down!

Balance Altered: Unyielding Fates Series Book Two (Unyielding Fates Trilogy 3) by Jenn D. Young is such an amazing story to read. This is book number three in this amazing series that I am so hooked on since the beginning. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about mystery, magic and suspense.
I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
Buckle up everyone because this book is about to take you to steamville!
This book was so steamy so sexy and amazing! I loved every sexy second of it! My jaw is still on the ground somewhere because this book is HOT and everyone should read this. I can’t wait for the next book! I got questions that need answers lol.
Book 2 of the Unyielding Fates series does what a good middle book of a series should. It fleshes out characters, plot and dynamics. Relationships grow and the bonds within Atalanta’s circle become complete. Details regarding the villain and his plots are revealed. Overall a great lead up to the finale.
3 star listen I enjoyed the new mate Quick listen with a 3/5 smut rating from me. There’s no real depth to these characters but I am still enjoying the series
4.25⭐️’s as a book… but I have to be this bitch… the last of the series was slated for Oct 2020 and it’s the end of Jan 2023… and no details AT ALL to come….
Balance Altered had it all: action, adventure, steamy moments, so many steamy moments, and just so much to look forward to. The events in book 1 has been building to the moments of this book and now readers will take a trip with Lana to the bed of Blood King Malik, who happens to be her fourth mate. At first, Lana feels betrayed, especially since she was basically kidnapped, but not everything is as it may appear. With her other mates Gabriel, Ezra and Andros, this half demon/half angel heroine will have to fight with all her might to protect those she loves and find the balance she needs to be as strong as she can be. This series is addicting and this book was definitely my favorite so far!
I didn't think I could love this series even more but then the author hit us with this hot book and oh man, I'm addicted more than ever. This is not a standalone so if you haven't started to series yet stop reading and go now. I know you'll be caught up in no time. Now back to Balance Altered. I love a good villian. Especially when there is some dark romance thrown in and the author makes us fall for the villian. That's what happened with Malik. Sorry Ezra, Gabe, and Andros but Malik is my favorite. I loved getting to know him better. And also seeing him added to the dynamic of the mates. This book went into more depth of everything and a few questions will be answered. And can we talk about steam? Holy smokes! This is Jenn D Young's first Reverse Harem series but she could have fooled me. This book was so good. It had everything: drama, romance, heat, humor, suspense, surprises, and a story that I couldn't put down. I want the next book like now! I can't suggest this series enough. And fans of the series, get ready to fall in love even more with Atalante and her sexy mates.
Brings you closer to the truth and inevitable conflict
Lana, newly mated half demon/half angel, wakes in a bed knowing Malik, Blood King, is the one who took her from Gabriel her angel mate, Ezra her demon prince mate, and Andros, the demon headmaster of the Dark and her other demon mate. As the story progresses kidnapping sets the wrong tone, understanding the past helps smooth the way, and learning to control her emotions will decide the fate of the future. Jenn D. Young’s Balance Altered takes her Unyielding Fates series closer to the truth and inevitable conflict that could destroy the realms.
I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
Wow!!! Balance Altered really amped it up this series. With all of the delishiness that is demons, angels, mages, generals, I mean you have a bit of everything. To top it all off Lana has all of her mates. I could not stop reading to find out what was going to happen next.
You have adventure, hot mates, maybe with the possibility of more?, finding out the enemies, and trying to find out who you can trust. This really is a fast paced read. The plot keeps you hooked, and the characters are entertaining.
So I would highly recommend this series but I would read it in order.
Fantastic read and a great addition to the series. I feel with this book things got more in depth giving me a better understanding on what was going on. Add the fact that Atalante( Lana) is still struggling to find her own balance of power while trying to be the anchors for Dark, Light, Justice, and Blood. Also trying to keep the balance of the realms from being destroyed by evil talk about the pressure. With all the intrigued, action, and course steamy romance you have one helluva read. So looking forward to seeing what else in store for this series. As always my review are totally voluntarily no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
Oh gosh but this book was amazing! Book 2 in the series sees the story of Atalante and her guys developing wonderfully. You really get an in depth look into how they tick and how Malik fits into everything. I love the way all the characters are really different and how they compliment each other really well. It just adds really good depth to the story and that’s not even the best bit. Holy moly that ending had me in a hot mess! Wow!! I had to read it a few times!! Soooo good! Can’t wait for the next one!!
Lots of questions from the 1st book are answered in this one. So much depth to the story.
Andros, Ezra, and Gabe have to deal with the fact that Malik took Lana but come to find out he isn't the evil they thought. They must all acknowledge he will complete their bond circle and once they all come to terms with it, their power will be a force for the battle to come.
Balance Altered is the second book in Jenn D. Young’s Unyielding Fates Mates series. This book picks up where book one left off and continues forward at a good pace that kept me engaged from beginning to end. In some aspects I can easily say that this book is better than the first and that is always something that I truly love about a series is when the author is able to build on the first and make the second book better than the last. Balance Altered continues with the alternating chapters of where readers get the story from multiple perspectives. The prologue with this book really captured my attention and even made me feel a certain kind of way with the individuals in power in this book. In the present moment they may feel some remorse for their refusal back then, but like we all say “hindsight is 20/20.” Malik really comes through as an engaging character with this book, and the author does an excellent job of altering the perspective of how he has been portrayed by so many. My only real issue with this book is how the author portrays Gabe and the other men wanting classify them at one point in the book as “all ‘extremely’ different men.” For me, in this book, Gabe really doesn’t read as an angel. Ezra and Andros are the demons in this book, but it really is easy for me to forget that Gabe is an angel and not a demon as well. I know that the author wants Gabe to be “different” from the “stereotypical” angel who is “good and angelic” but Gabe dropping literally a string of curse words and one in particular multiple times in a sentence makes it hard to view him really as an angel. An angel is supposed to be more balanced and yes, lean more toward the light (otherwise why have two side of light and dark?) than to the dark. Yes, I know the characters curse when they are frustrated, but I feel that for Gabe, he goes overboard more often than not and I truly forget that he’s supposed to be an angel and that he’s not a demon. For those who enjoy steamy…this book brings it! I loved it! I enjoyed the heated/steamy build-up so that it’s not something that just happens out of nowhere. We get multiple delicious scenes with this book and I absolutely ate it up. I am choosing to rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I’m taking off a star because Gabe rarely reads as an angel for me. I understand wanting to make him different, but he’s too hot headed and prone to LOTS of swearing which makes him read more as a demon. Also, the author wanting to have the main character think that each of her men is “extremely” different is a reach. Two are demons, maybe different levels, but demons nonetheless; Malik is the only truly distinctive character in comparison to the rest. Reading it was hard to remember who was the demon between Ezra and Gabe half the time unless a certain scene pointed me in the right direction. This book is good, but it has some pitfalls as well. If you read the first and enjoyed it then I encourage you to pick this book up.
I think book 2 in the Unyielding Fates trilogy was even better than book 2 that I enjoyed. We get the story behind Atalante’s last mate (I loved his spin and how the prophecy came to life haha, the epiphany everyone has once they get what was meant was hilarious every time haha).
Malik is a wildcard, he has been around for a long time, he has put this into motion to keep his mate safe throughout her life (things she will not be happy about and things she still doesnt know about yet, gonna be good when all is revealed!) and to keep the balance from shifting and putting everyone at risk. Lana has to handle a lot in this one, from learning more about her family and their past, about Malik and what he had to do, to figuring out what’s going on with the help of her mates and their family. She also has to navigate new powers and keeping the balance. Some mates get a boost (which is funny when it happens haha) and the group comes to an understanding and put Lana first. I enjoyed the group scenes and when they were reunited with her. I was annoyed with Malik for keeping her away for so long but I get it hahaha. The baddie was revealed, we don’t know what’s going to happen in book 3, how this war is going to come to a head. Hopefully all the characters we’ve come to love will live through it. This one wasn’t as funny as book 1, but with the subject matter it made sense. I did love Lana’s spunk when she would stand up to Malik (who hasn’t had a lover/someone to explain himself to in a VERY long time haha).
Narration was good yet again. I still think the female narrator can make Lana’s reaction a little too OTT for me. I think the tension between Lana and Malik was perfectly done between these two narrators. They really brought the heat but also the stubbornness hahaha. I really enjoyed Andros in this one, seeing the headmaster be shocked and his reactions were priceless. I loved how Gabe and Ezra were there for each other and Malik’s wildcard in the bedroom upped the heat, and the narrations did a great job with all the tension and flirting.
Hope book 3 will be coming out soon, I need to know what happens next!
Unyielding Fates is just getting better. I'm absolutely L O V I N G the addition of Malik to this little gaggle of men that Lana has caught herself fated up with. The second book in a trilogy is always the worst in the best ways. We get to know the characters better without that silly world building in the way, but then we get a cliffhanger we just aren't ready for, and Balance Altered was no different.
*light spoilers ahead* I really loved watching the guys get to know and trust Malik. I really wasn't sure if his addition was real or not at the end of Threatened. I wanted to hope for the best, but dude sounded evil and all we knew of him was evil. Turns out this one's been pining over his future mate for over half a millennia and being hidden away has made his people skills go to crap, that's all. Once we get to the bottom of his reasons for taking Lana, I fell hard for this man.
The spice really ramped up a bit in this one, especially at the end. I'm just loving the dynamics between these five and I can not wait to read Balance Restored to find out how it all ends.
And again, Jake and Bridget do an A M A Z I N G job with narrating this story. I absolutely loved their voices for each character and the production blended the duet narration seamlessly.
"Balance Altered" picks up right after the cliffhanger that ended the first book in this trilogy, and mainly revolves around the bond between Atalante and Malik. I really enjoyed the dynamic between these two characters; even though they are immediately drawn towards each other, there is a lot of push and pull between the both of them and that was precisely what I was missing a little in the first book. Malik is a complex character, and it makes sense that the author pays a little more attention to him compared to the other men in Atalante's life. It is necessary to understand him better to be able to like him as a reader, and I believe he might end up becoming my favorite male in this series.
With a lot of focus on character and relationship building, the focus on storybuilding is a little lower compared to the first book. I wish some of the parts that were glossed over, got a more prominent place in the story, like the training Malik provided for Atalante. Still, it isn't necessary and doesn't mess with the flow of the story, so it didn't take away my reader enjoyment in any way.
I'm definitely looking forward to the final book in this trilogy! The build-up to the final confrontation is very interesting, and makes me look forward to see how the story will end.
Book 2 kicks off where the last book ended with Atalante (aka Lana) having been kidnapped by The Blood Mage Malik. Except everything is not all it seems with him as Lana finds out through the course of this book. He has the power of seeing the future and all the different paths that can be changed if things go wrong but he can't influence them by telling people how too. I think that makes Malik a much multi faceted character all round. Even more so when you find out his background. Some of which is sad. Back at the Academy Gabe, Ezra & Andros have their own problems with whether The Dark Elf King is still alive or not and who is helping him. So many plot twists and turns this book especially is a joyride of a book. Add to that the steam levels are epic in this book. An especially hot scenario at the end nearly melted my kindle!! I'm loving this series and I can't wait for the next book
I absolutely loved book 2 of this amazing series. We go through so much, we've got secrets, lies, suspense, action, 🌶 , and more! A little recap- Lana is half Demon/half Angel, and unfortunately for her she's fated to save the world. She will have the help of her 4 mates, Ezra - demon son of Lucifer, the dark. Gabriel - angel son of Alex & Mariah (who are Archangels), the light. Andros - the headmaster he is justice. And the fourth, Malik - blood mage, and Blood King.
When they're all struggling through everything, Malik takes Lana from her three mates, to train, and protect her from the enemy lurking around the Academy. I absolutely LOVE the chemistry coming OFF the pages with Malik and Lana. The banter, his moody alpha male personality, and Lana being his little hellfire.
Preparing for war is hard, and what these characters go through isn't easy. I'm excited to see what happens in book 3!
Balance Altered pretty much kicks off where book one ended. Atalante has been kidnapped by Malik, the Blood King. But not everything is as it seems. I think I even mentioned in my review for the previous book that I didn't think he was the bad guy even if everyone else thought he was.
A lot more information comes out in this book about why Malik is the way he is and why he is also doing what he has done past and present. There are a lot of twists and turns in this book and the characters all bond some more throughout.
I can't quite decide who is my favourite guy in Lana's harem but I may be leaning a little more toward Malik the more I read about him, and he definitely had a much bigger part in this book that he did in book two.
A very short epilogue from Atalante's POV left me wanting more, I'm really excited to see what is to come in book three.
Balance Altered picks up right after the cliffhanger ending of Book1. Lana is in the clutches of Malik, the Blood King, who has very specific plans for Lana and her Bond Circle.
Lana is struggling to accept her fourth mate as she works through being separated from Ezra, Fabe, and Andros. She understands that Malik is meant to be hers, but his actions to date have not made him endearing.
Join Lana and her circle as training and preparation to meet an old enemy begins. The opening shots of war are fired, and it’s time for the the Balance and her Bond Circle to go to work!
Wow. What an emotional ride that book was. There were even a few moments that caused me and my jaded little heart to tear up. I was enthralled with the world that the author created in the first book, so I knew I needed to keep reading the series. And this second book builds nicely on what had been started. I will say that this story feels like the middle of a series. There’s lots of character development and a few revelations, but not as much dramatic tension as in the previous one. However, the revelations that come to light make me very anxious to see how the next book is going to play out. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author through Black Cat.
After reading book 2, I definitely had a better reading experience and could establish a firm connection to most of the main characters. The second book brings many revelations about the past and the future, secrets that have been kept for too long, and interesting situations full of tension, drama, and heightened emotions. There are steamy scenes too, to bring up some spice, and for lovers of RH especially the last two chapters are a hot gift. The group grows closer as the danger grows, and now after Niklaus is revealed to be still alive, there is a battle on the horizon I don't want to miss.
I was really unsure about this book after the first third or so because I was getting annoyed by the FMC, BUT it turned out amazing! If you are struggling reading it, persevere!
It's steamy and I have finally found my favourite harem member, who was my favourite character in the last book. Malik is incredibly well written and is honestly amazing, as are the other members but who doesn't have a favourite?
The plot is really interesting and not something I've come across before! The third book when?!
This book has more intrigue and a lot more heat! There’s more action but the build is still there. The “circle” continues to grow and things aren’t as they seem. It was better then the first book and has picked up in the story line well. I have hope that the main character is going to turn into a butt kicking queen but it’s a slow go to get there
The narrators don’t disappoint. They add such depth and make you feel all the things. And this book gets hot hot hot. They flawlessly Mail every emotion you should feel while listening.
I absolutely loved this book! Our main characters deal with some shocking revelations along the way. It's filled with steamy moments, prophecies, cranky angels, family dynamics galore, and a bond like no other. There's definitely tons of excitement and intrigue along the way. I definitely suggest reading book one first if you've never read it. Otherwise you might not understand the backstory or character relationships. Trust me, it's oh so worth it!!
