Cocktails Before Midnight is the heartwarming third installment in the Hotel Hamilton historical fiction series. If you revel in tales of resilient heroines, vivid settings, and dynamic sibling bonds, Tanya E Williams’ captivating story is sure to tug you back in time.
A writer from a young age, Tanya E Williams loves to help a reader get lost in another time, another place through the magic of books. History continues to inspire her stories and her insightful view into the human condition deepens her character's experiences and propels them on their journey. Ms. Williams' favorite tales, speak to the reader's heart, making them smile, laugh, cry, and think.
This is book 3 in the Hotel Hamilton series. I do recommend reading them in order. We are back with sisters Clara and Louisa. I must say I love these sisters. They both work at the Hotel Hamilton in Canada as maids. Clara just got promoted to a 8th floor maid but has a troublesome guest to deal with. Louisa wants to become an actress and wants to find a way to get to Hollywood. I really enjoyed the conclusion to the series. There isn’t one book I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed. Overall I thought this a great book and I definitely recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Content: troublesome guest is forward/pushy with the female employees , drinking, one use of “h*ll”
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
I couldn’t put down Cocktails Before Midnight, the third book in the Hotel Hamilton series by Tanya E Williams. Historical fiction is one of my go-to genres, and this one does not disappoint. The story is engaging, fun, heartwarming, and full of twists and turns up to a satisfying ending. The other two novels in the series, Welcome to the Hamilton and Meet Me at the Clock, are also must-reads. They could be read standalone, but why not read them all? You’ll love the quirky characters as much as I do. I never tire of Lu, Clara, their family, friends and co-workers, and their experiences as working women back in the 1920s in a prestigious Canadian Hotel in Vancouver. I can’t wait until the next book comes out!
ARC Book Review Cocktails Before Midnight A Novel Written By Tanya E. Williams Historical Fiction Published October 2024 280 Pages ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is the third book in the author’s Hotel Hamilton Series. This series takes place in Vancouver Canada in 1927. The two main characters, Clara and Louisa Wilson, are maids at the Hotel Hamilton.
I loved this update on these two sisters. Through the three books in the series the two women have shown much growth and development. They have become strong confident women.
The author’s writing, character development, and dialogue transforms readers to life in 1927.
Will there be a fourth book? If not, I know Clara and Louisa are both in a good place in their lives.
“…. That you will always disappoint someone, but that someone shouldn’t be yourself.”
Wow! Clara and Louisa continue to grow into incredible women! I feel like I know this family and am so proud of them! Each book of the series stands for itself, yet Cocktails Before Midnight is the evidence of how beautifully the community has grown together! I truly enjoy reading this authors books, there is so much thought put into how each part of the story influences the next!
I was given this book to read as an Advanced Reader Copy, and very appreciative I am. It is book 3 in the Hotel Hamilton Series, although I haven’t read the previous 2. It was a really good read, told by the 2 sisters in almost alternating chapters. I really enjoyed it. So much so that I actually finished it a lot quicker than usual (I’m a slow reader, and mostly only read when I go to bed). Although it is very readable as a stand alone, it has made me very interested in reading the previous books, and I really do hope there is another sequel.
Love these sisters! Absolutely enjoy following them through growing up and growing into their own lives. Both so different and so full of character. It’s been a pleasure to read, highly recommend!
I was given this book to read as an Advanced Reader Copy. Set In Vancouver’s Hamilton Hotel in 1927, the novel is the tale of two sisters, Clara and Louisa Wilson, who work at the glamorous hotel during the holiday season. Louisa dreams of Hollywood stardom, while Clara juggles a new promotion and a budding romance. However, their excitement turns dark when an exploitative guest threatens their dreams, love, and livelihoods. Full of ambition, intrigue, and holiday charm, this novel perfectly blends romance and suspense, ideal for a cozy holiday read.
This was my favorite of the Hotel Hamilton series if not my favorite of all Tanya's books so far. I do recommend reading the first two books for background on the main characters, Clara and Louisa, as I think it will make you love them more in this one. I liked seeing them each grow into themselves, Clara breaking out of her shell, and Louisa making some unexpectedly selfless decisions.
There's also the continuation of a romance that first bloomed in Book 2 with so many lovely moments between them and a kiss that reminded me of the "So I can kiss you anytime I want" scene in Sweet Home Alabama. Tanya's books are not typically known for romance, but as a romance-lover, I was thrilled that she included, not just one, but several sweet scenes this time.
On the flip side, she also dove into the challenging topic of sexual coercion with one of the hotel patrons, Mr. Barnes, begging the question how far someone will go to make their dreams come true. It also shows how far we have come (or haven't come) when choosing how to handle such a situation. Tanya impressed the importance of the topic while never being graphic or uncompassionate to its victims.
*I was a beta reader for this novel and received a free copy, but I was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.*
Cocktails Before Midnight by Tanya E. Williams is part of the charming Hotel Hamilton series, but rest assured, it can be enjoyed as a standalone novel. This is the first book I’ve read by Williams, and I was quickly captivated by her storytelling. The novel unfolds through alternating perspectives of two sisters, Clara and Louisa. While these two women couldn’t be more different in temperament and outlook, their bond is deep and authentic—a testament to Williams' ability to craft believable, relatable characters. The era in which the story is set comes vividly to life through Williams' descriptive prose. Every detail of the time period feels carefully considered, immersing the reader in a world where traditions and societal expectations influence every interaction. Yet, there’s a warmth throughout the story—a feel-good factor that runs deeper than nostalgia. The camaraderie between the employees at the Hamilton Hotel and the sisterly connection between Clara and Louisa creates a heartwarming undercurrent that pulls you in and makes you care about their journey. Williams’ ability to balance the intimate dynamics of family relationships with the historical richness of the era is impressive. The dialogue flows naturally, and the vivid descriptions transport you to the golden age of grand hotels, making you feel like you’re a guest at the Hamilton yourself. In Conclusion, if you're in the mood for a novel that offers both emotional depth and the comfort of a cosy, heartwarming read, Cocktails Before Midnight is the perfect choice. Williams has woven a story that will appeal to fans of historical fiction and family sagas alike, leaving you invested in the lives of her characters long after the final page. Whether you're already familiar with the Hotel Hamilton series or staring out anew for the first time like I did, this book promises a delightful escape into a bygone era. You won't want to put it down—and after finishing, you may find yourself eager to pick up another of Williams’ books.
This is the 3rd book in The Hotel Hamilton series. I found myself deeply engaged by the growth of the main characters from Book 1 on through to book 3. Clara &. Louisa and their widowed dad all live together. Life has been difficult but they have a loving & warm home and they all work hard to maintain it. In personalties the sisters are very different. Clara has been promoted to 8th floor maid. Her confidence has grown, yet she still worries over failing to live totally up to the guidelines set for her by the hotel. Clara now has a love interest that I find so endearing. Louisa is driven by her yearning to be an actress in Hollywood. She has received rave reviews in the newspaper for her leading role in a local production. While pursuing her acting career she is employed as a 5th floor maid at The Hotel Hamilton. It is the first holiday season at the Hamilton and everyone is busy with the beautiful decorations and the guests who have come to celebrate. One of those guests is believed to be a Director. Clara is assigned to care for his suite and anything he might need. Louisa is hoping to endear herself to him as a way to reach her goal of becoming an actress in Hollywood. There is also a new character, Gwen, who wants the same things Louisa wants and is willing to take any risk to obtain them. This Director is at the heart of a huge dilemma for each one of them. Will they rise to the challenge and find the courage within to protect one another regardless of the personal cost? You will not want to put this book down until you reach that last page and then you will wish for more. Be sure to read the author notes and acknowledgements at the end of the book as you see the true heart of the author, Tanya E. Williams, right there. I also loved the opening Dedication in the book for her Aunt Irene who recently passed at the age of 101.
Cocktails Before Midnight by Tanya E. Williams is the third installment in the captivating The Hamilton Hotel series, a must-read for fans of women's fiction. While each novel in this series offers a standalone experience, starting from the beginning will give you a deeper connection to the dynamic sisters, Clara and Louisa.
Set against the backdrop of the 1920s, Cocktails Before Midnight masterfully blends romance, intrigue, and the complexities of gender dynamics in a male-dominated era. This novel beautifully illustrates the resilience and ingenuity of women who find ways to rise above societal constraints. The journey of the sisters throughout the series has been a delight to follow. Watching Clara and Louisa grow into strong, independent women while maintaining their close bond has been incredibly rewarding. It's hard to pick a favorite between the two, but Clara has truly captured my heart. Her cautious nature and deep-seated need for security will resonate with anyone who values stability over risk.
Without giving away any spoilers, I can confidently say that the ending of Cocktails Before Midnight is both satisfying and memorable. If you’re looking for a novel that delivers strong female characters, historical intrigue, and a touch of romance, this book won’t disappoint. Dive into this engrossing tale and discover the twists and turns for yourself. You won't regret it!
‘Cocktails Before Midnight’ by Tanya E. Williams is the third book in the series ‘Hotel Hamiliton’. I absolutely was charmed by the first two books in this series and I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of this book. I will note, that while this is a series, this can be read as a stand alone.
This story continues the relationship between two very different sisters. Clara and Louisa. Ms. Williams characters are delightful, deep, compassionate, kind and most of all memorable. They are simply relatable and believable. When reading this book it feels as if you were coming to see your friends. You find yourself caring about the growth and journey of these characters. Their dialogue never feels forced and feels real.
Another wonderful thing about Ms. Williams stories is the setting. Her descriptions of the Hotel Hamilton, Clara and Louisa’s home, the theater, the streets allow the reader to feel that they are there. You can see the lobby of the Hotel Hamilton dressed in it’s Christmas finery. Ms. Williams takes into consideration every detail of the period. There is a sense of nostalgia, a peak into simpler times.
I found myself so happy to be reading ‘Cocktails Before Midnight’ and yet so sad for it to be over. My only hope is that Ms. Williams sends us another memorable book about the Hotel Hamilton soon. Well done.
Cocktails Before Midnight is the third book in the Hotel Hamilton historical fiction series by Tanya E Williams. It’s an enjoyable read as a stand alone novel, but I recommend reading the two previous books first to appreciate the character development.
The novel takes place in 1927, during the Christmas holiday festivities in the Hamilton Hotel in Vancouver, BC. The story is told from the perspectives of two sisters, Clara and Louisa. Despite their very different personalities and life goals, the emotional bond that they share gives an endearing warmth to the story.
It’s a truly enjoyable read, with interesting characters and a plot that twists and turns. The historical details and vivid descriptions of the setting transport the reader back in time. The author skillfully blends the traditions and social expectations of the 1920’s into the plot, including the gender dynamics of that male dominated era.
This warm, well-researched, and captivating book is a perfect read for the holidays.
Sisters Clara and Louisa Wilson who are employed at a luxurious hotel, are both looking to their futures but each in different ways. Louisa wants to become a Hollywood actress, and Clara wants to move up in the hospitality field. It is holiday season at the hotel, bringing visitors who are regulars, and others who have not stayed there before. Louisa meets a man who is more than eager to help her reach her aspirations, and Clara meets a man who is the perfect beau. This story has lots of action and twists and turns, things not always what they seem to be! I loved it and would highly recommend it.
I love all things Tanya E. Williams and this does not disappoint, this is book three in The Hotel Hamilton series. Sisters Louisa and Clara are both maids at The Hamilton Hotel in Canada. Clara has been promoted to a prestigious eighth floor maid position, and has a difficult guest. Ms. Thompson the head of the maids, says they need to do everything to make the guests happy. Louisa wants to be an actress and go to Hollywood. Sometimes difficult people can be dangerous! Love the plot, great setting, and strong intense interesting characters. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Tanya E. Williams!!!
Tanya E. Williams has outdone herself with the third installment in the Hotel Hamilton Series. Cocktails Before Midnight is a captivating adventure that walks the reader through the lives of two young sisters, Clara and Louisa, during December of 1927, in Vancouver, Canada. I looked forward to this third novel because I had become invested in the sister’s lives and I wondered where the author would take them next. I was not disappointed!! Their adventures were exciting, suspenseful and sometimes unnerving, but the sister’s strength and tenacity carried them through the holiday season.
