Sixty-year-old Kay Carrera has a new job doing internet research, but underneath her capable demeanor she's struggling with the recent death of her husband, money troubles, and better eyesight than she's ever had before. And when Kay stumbles upon a murder, she finds new purpose in solving the crimes that rock her small town.
The Tell All: The town party planner has a secret, and it'll be the death of her.
Junkyard Man: Kay finds the eccentric recluse across the street murdered and herself in the middle of the investigation.
Antique Secrets: When an auction antique comes with a troubled ghost, Kay digs into the past and uncovers a whole host of secrets.
The Locust Point Mystery: 3 Book Set (locust Point Mystery, #1 - #3— Libby Howard/Narrator: Margaret Strom (20 chapters) Feb. 10-12, 2022
I have written individual reviews for the three books included in this set: 1) The Tell-All; 2) Junkyard Man; 3) Antique Secrets.
As a set, these three are a solid trio. It introduces the characters to the reader and then follows with the next two books in the series.
I found the audiobooks on Scribd and enjoyed listening while I followed along. I had already read the first book back in 2018. By the time I got to the third book, I wanted to refresh my memory on how this unique family got together, so I listened to the audiobook of “The Tell All.”
I actually started listening to that first book as a night read and fell asleep by chapter 15, so I needed to go back and listened from nearly the beginning.
Because of the narrator this is a good book to go to sleep too. (But you will want to listen to it again while awake!)
Overall, this 3-book set is above average. They are quick reads and left this reader/listener wanting for more.
A widow and her cat need a roommate to be able to stay in their Victorian home. Along the way, they meet interesting characters who are part of the widow's very full life. After her cataract surgery, she begins seeing shadowy figures but does not believe them to be the 'floaters' described by her ophthalmologist.
A young woman comes up missing. A likable hoarder is attacked in his own home. A piece of estate furniture comes into her dining room with its own floater seemingly attached to it.
Highly recommended for those who enjoy clean well-crafted mysteries.
I was looking for a new read. Some of the series I've been reading seem to become redundant after a while. I hadn't expected to do thoroughly enjoy this though the ratings are excellent I simply expected a good story with semi predictable story line much like the others. I was so pleasantly surprised. I was entertained, saddened happy and joyful while reading an Nd ultimately felt completely satiated after finishing. Read these books, you won't be disappointed.
The first two books were fine, totally predictable but with no glaring errors. Moderate reads...
The third book in this series finally took a brave turn that most cozy mystery writers ignore. Rather than finding a body and then investigating the murder running afoul of the official investigation at every turn, this story has the heroine investingating folks who are long gone to unravel the mystery of their lives. Bravo! A far more believable plot and quite interesting to follow. And, there was a possible plot twist that kept you reading to the very end.
It is fun to read stories that go on into the next book. I enjoyed the characters and the development of the story. I particularly enjoyed Antique Secrets, the mystery was slowly revealed and the solution also dragged out through the story. It was well done and even if you had a feeling you knew what was possibly the answer, there was enough to make you keep reading to see how it would come together. And you might only be partially correct!
I’m very much enjoying reading this series. This novel has two stories in parallel: one in the present time and one taking place in the same family several generations back. There are mysteries to be solved in both plots. Characters continue to be strong and well developed. A very good read
Our heroine, Kay, is newly widowed and finding her way through life - and murder mysteries- one step at a time. Except for the fact that she bakes too many good things and still gets up for sunrise yoga, she’d make a good addition to anyone’s circle of friends. Enjoyable tales for quiet evenings.
Although I guessed the outcome of the book, with three possible scenarios; it did not diminish the story-telling at all. I love Libby Howard’s characters and her easy small town/village-like stories. I find a similar rapt audience attention when I relate stories of my travels to strangers and family alike. Experience is a great story and is always welcome.
Excellent Stories of Murder, Mystery, and yes, Love
These stories seem more like conversations with a good friend, very good conversations! I enjoyed Kate's dogged determination in solving murders plus I admired her baking skills and ability to make friendships along the way. This is one author worth reading!
Good character development and intriguing mysteries. I think I would really like the main character, Kay - kind, curious, generous, persistent. Looking forward to getting the next in the series.
What a cracking good read,I really enjoyed this book the characters are really well written and enjoyable to read I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cosy mystery stories
The main character isn’t the usual detective type, or the usual old lady stereotype either. Kay and her adventures are interesting with intriguing storylines and developing characterisations. A lovely coffee time interlude in Locust Point.
I don't often leave reviews, but of all the "cozy" mysteries I've been reading, these are the best! I hated setting them aside to to bed. You definitely won't be bored!
Libby Howard has written a great series of mysteries with a ghostly twist! The first three were really terrific and different from anything else I’ve ever read before! I’ll be finishing these books!
The characters need to be developed. The plots are not challenging to the reader. I was rather disappointed. These are incredibly short books, but I could not wait for Antique Secrets to end.
Listened to audible version. Narrator is both jerky on reading of sentences and yet warm and rich voiced. Despite this I enjoyed these sweet light murder mysteries
Very good series and these 3 books each have different family problems involving the murders while Kay and her friends with the help with ghosts get the answers to solve the murders.
