Christy and her friends return to the Empty World to find her grandfather and convince him to return home with them. They find danger in the form of the Ancients, especially Angry Ancient. And an abandoned city, which holds many secrets.
The Angry Ancient stops the group from using the same portal to return home by blowing it up which forces the friends to find a different way to return to their world. A friend and protector is killed by Angry Ancient and her grandfather has to stay behind, once again, to save others like their friend.

This is the 2nd book in the "Empty World Series". I thoroughly enjoyed this Book. It starts up where the last book leaves off. A little different problem of who and when going into the portal is told but the author wound the two experiences together in a twisting plot. Not quite how you expected the entrance to go but a really good read.

"An Exciting Adventure in the Empty World"
This is the second book in the Empty World Series. It continues with the main characters, all teenagers as they cross over into the alien world and confront the species which dwell there. In New Hampshire, Christy Walker, 14 years old, is glad May has arrived. She sits and looks at the geese floating on the pond where the portal exists to cross over to the other world. She has been there, and she plans to go back, regardless of the ban placed on her by her mother. The portal is only revealed and accessible during thunderstorms, and one is brewing. Cory is one of the teens that did not make the time travel as the others. He's hoping that Rob and Danny are telling the truth about their adventure, as he's planning to make his own adventure there. Danny, who is deaf, and who has taught all his friends sign language, has no desire to make a return trip, in fact he vows never to return. But not with his twin brother, Brad, who has Asperger's Syndrome. However, Brad is not going to be left behind. He's going to go before any of the others, alone. But that night as the thunder storm moves overhead, Danny sees movement on the dock ... it's Brad with a backpack. Oh, no! He's going to go through the portal! Danny rushes down to the dock and together, they are swept into time travel. Before the storm ends, Christy and Cory are racing to the dock hoping to make it through the portal before it closes. Christy wants to locate the two boys ahead of her, but she also wants information on her grandfather, Jack, who has been trapped on the Empty World for nine years. She just has to find him. This novel is a fantastic adventure for young adults, even a thrilling fun read for adults of all ages who enjoy fantasy/sci-fiction stories. It is very well written, very absorbing. This is also a stand alone novel, but you don't want to miss the first book, "Portal Through The Pond."

OK, I read this in less than a day. Good read, I look forward to the subsequent books, because this books just screams sequel. After reading the first book in the series my thought was nice book. This book develops the storyline in greater depth and although I really liked it I find the teenager to have very adult reactions to situations. No spoilers here though, read the book & judge for yourself, but my next read will be book #3 in the Empty World Saga.

This is the second novel in the Empty World series and picks up where the first left off. It once again grabbed my attention and held it throughout. It really is an exciting adventure for all ages. I highly recommend it!
