No clues. No time. One chance to expose a terrifying secret.
DS Wendy Knight has endured both tragedy and pain in her short time with Mildenheath CID's murder squad. Her grizzled partner DCI Jack Culverhouse has seen it all. But neither of them is prepared for a case without a single lead.
A journalist with her finger on the pulse of Mildenheath's corrupt underbelly is beaten within an inch of her life. With a comatose victim and a defenceless child as the only witness, Knight and Culverhouse must reveal the horrifying truth before the ruthless killer comes back to finish the job.
In Too Deep is a police procedural crime novel that can be enjoyed as a standalone or as the fifth book in the Knight & Culverhouse series. If you like gritty criminal investigations, fast-paced mysteries, and surprises you won't see coming, then you'll love the latest entry from Adam Croft, the author of Her Last Tomorrow.
With more than half a million books sold to date, Adam Croft is one of the most successful independently published authors in the world, and one of the biggest selling authors of the past year.
Following his 2015 worldwide bestseller Her Last Tomorrow, his psychological thrillers were bought by Thomas & Mercer, an imprint of Amazon Publishing. Prior to the Amazon deal, Her Last Tomorrow sold more than 150,000 copies across all platforms and became one of the bestselling books of the year, reaching the top 10 in the overall Amazon Kindle chart and peaking at number 12 in the combined paperback fiction and non-fiction chart.
His Knight & Culverhouse crime thriller series has sold more than 250,000 copies worldwide, with his Kempston Hardwick mystery books being adapted as audio plays starring some of the biggest names in British TV.
In 2016, the Knight & Culverhouse Box Set reached number 1 in Canada, knocking J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child off the top spot only weeks after Her Last Tomorrow was also number 1 in Canada.
During the summer of 2016, two of Adam’s books hit the USA Today bestseller list only weeks apart, making them two of the most-purchased books in the United States over the summer.
Before writing full time, Adam had previously worked as an internet marketing consultant, delivery driver and professional actor.
Adam has been featured on BBC Radio, The Guardian, The Huffington Post, The Bookseller and a number of other news and media outl
This book was not nearly as enjoyable as the others’. There was no murder. The whole book was spent figuring out who TRIED to kill Tanya Henderson, and Culverhouse’s wife turning out to be such a big liar during all those years apart, and Culverhouses’ sudden obsession with finding his 12 or 13 year old daughter that he hasn’t seen in almost 9 years. When he does find her his blonde haired daughter has black hair and the first thing she says is, “Dad, what the F**K are you doing here?” Really? That’s the kind of kid Mr. Croft is giving Culverhouse? I think I might be done with this series. Between his problem drinking and all the crap about the PCC in every book, and now the potty mouth kid, I’ve about had enough.
No murder, no serial killer, no nothing that one usually expects from Adam Croft.
Again no sex or anything resembling it but the F-bomb was used 37 times.
As to the narration: On about page 51 it was weird for a minute or two. Adam Croft was reading and made a mistake, stopped and mumbled something then started the same sentence again. Then he made another mistake and snapped his fingers a time or 3. Then made another mistake and just clapped his hands for a second or two and started the sentence again. Then on page 171 he made another mistake in his reading and said “bollocks,” cleared his throat and read the sentence again. Anyway, he’s not as good a narrator and Nigel Patterson was. I don’t think Croft knows what kind of voice he wants Culverhouse to have because it kept changing.
I have to say while many series of books loose pace over time, this series picks up the pace. With each new book I feel myself waiting for the next one to be released. Adam Croft has a way of pulling you into each story he is putting on the page. I also enjoy the back stories into each of the characters. To many times we read pages of people at work solving the next big case and left wondering if these people have a life outside of work? In Too Deep will take you into the world of greed. It shows that no matter who you are you might be capable of murder? If this is the first book you are reading in this series STOP! Go back and find book one and read them in order to really know who the people are in the books.
I am really enjoying this series of books. The story lines are superb and the two main characters are developing further with each book. This one was really good and the twist at the end was excellent with the last sentence making me gasp.
Yet another great book from Adam Croft. I am gradually working my way through the Knight and Culverhouse series and am thoroughly enjoying each one. Adam’s books are quick reads with every page turn urging you to read on and at the end of each chapter you find yourself drawn into the next. This story is fairly simple – a woman attacked on her own doorstep at night and only survived because her young daughter saw the attach taking place. Why was she attacked and will she survive? As the story progresses the intrigue grows until eventually we reach the conclusion. In the meantime, Jack Culverhouse is still on his quest to find his missing daughter and Wendy is still trying to form a relationship with a man. The only disappointment I found with this book was that the ending seemed a bit rushed and I felt there were a few loose ends. Other than that, an excellent read and it won’t be too long before I get stuck into the next one.
Another well written story in this gripping series. The characters continue to develop and reveal more of themselves, parts we haven't previously seen. A clever plot and a thrilling read.
A couple of let downs, the biggest being the poor audio editing where the narrator, Adam Croft himself, fluffs his lines and then backtracks and repeats the sentence or a few words of it rather than editing them out, which completely spoils the immersion into the story. This is particularly noticeable in the first hospital beside scene but occurs a few more times later on too.
Also, I feel sure than Jack Culverhouse's voice changes between the start and end of the book, becoming more gruff and gravelly in the later part.
Still, aside from that, an enjoyable book and I'll be diving straight into book 6 shortly.
So good to be reading and taking my mind of this dreadful virus going around. Thank you to Adam Croft for giving out some freebies. I enjoyed this book. Ok it did not have a murder this time but an attempted murder. An amazing idea which was very exciting to read. Wendy you should have text him. Culverhouse she lived so close all this time. Please give these characters a break and happier lives. Ok on to the next book.
JACK IS FUNNY SOMETIMES, WHEN HE SAID, “A BIG BAG OF BASTARDS” I FELL OUT LAUGHING. THAT SAYING WOULD FIT A LOT OF PEOPLE IN TODAY’S SOCIETY. LOL. HE’S A VERY SAD, ANGRY MAN, WHO CARES TOO MUCH ABOUT PEOPLE. JACK REMAINS TORN BETWEEN HIS PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL LIFE. THE TWO KEEP COLLIDING AND THEN BLOWING UP IN HIS FACE. THE ENDING SEEMED ABRUPT, LEFT ME WANTING MORE, IT JUST DIDN’T FEEL COMPLETE. I DID LIKE THIS ONE A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN PREVIOUS BOOK ;O
I was very impressed with the authors way of moving from character to character and keeping the story moving . The suspension of getting to who done it is very well set. I enjoyed the book very much.
Knight and Culverhouse book 5 In too Deep, By Adam Croft, an attempted murder victim in a coma, only witness a child, dark and terrifying secrets, gripping page turner, developing characters, more of Jack C and Wendy K. 4* kindle. Straight onto book 6.
I enjoy Adam Croft's books. The characters are well developed and seem like real people with faults and problems. The plots usually deal with the kind of thing we see reported in the news. Good.
An investigative journalist is brutal attacked. With her lying in a coma they have no witnesses and no idea what could be her latest topic. It makes investigating the case difficult for D.C.I. Culverhouse and the rest of his team. An interesting and well-written crime story
I enjoyed this book more than previous ones - the characters are well drawn and believable and there was less mayhem and incredible plotting - good work ! A good read.
Another constant page turner! Can a small child as the only witness to a brutal attack help DCI Jack Culverhouse and his team find the ruthless person responsible....Adam Croft makes references to his previous four books in such a way, that even if this is the first book read in the series, you would want to start from the beginning and get an understanding of the lives of Culverhouse and Knight and their previous cases!
My mom suggested I'd like this...we both have crime books as our go to want to read books. I really didn't like this one though. The characters were totally flat. Too predictable. There were a couple of times I said "of course" out loud and I like a crime book that I don't know where it's going. And there was nothing new or interesting about it. Felt like the same old, same old. It was a quick read...which was a nice change of pace. I won't read anymore of this series.
Adam Croft In too Deep. This is book 5 in the Culverhouse and Knight series, it's a very welcome addition as well. When I started to read this book I was hooked instantly and it kept my attention to the very end. I highly recommend this series of books. It is a fast paced thriller and like all Adam Croft the story is brilliant. 5* 11 July 2016.
I love these books so much, I want to go live in the town where Jack Culverhouse is on the police force. Seriously, this whole series of books is excellent. Well thought out plot lines, engaging characters and written in the style of good old fashioned British murder mysteries, but in the present times. Well done Mr. Croft.
