I figured this was going to be a hard one to adapt, since the strengths of this episode are in the visual and auditory humor (slapstick, sudden expressions, overall sound mixing) than irony like Tea at the Treedome.

Even my 5 year old brother was getting a bit bored with this one and I believe it's the shortest so far.

Reading "Oooooohhhh! I'm the Open-Window Maniac!" and "He's just standing there... *menacingly!*" made part of my soul grow back.

I read Spongebob Squarepants Hall Monitor by Annie Auerbach for this month’s humor or horror reading assignment. Spongebob is selected to be the hall monitor at Mrs. Puff’s Boating school and gives a long acceptance speech that takes up the whole rest of the class period. He takes his job a little too seriously and attempts to direct traffic. This causes chaos and an accident between multiple boats. He tries to teach a fish family the danger of having an open window by jumping in with a bag on his head as a burglar. The fish family screams for their lives. Next he comes upon Patrick eating an ice cream and calls him a vandal because he was dripping ice cream on the sidewalk. Patrick becomes his deputy. A newsboy comes along telling about a maniac in Bikini Bottom that caused a car wreck and a break in. Patrick and Spongebob split up to search for the maniac. Two police officers show Patrick the maniac’s picture on a wanted poster and it’s Spongebob. When the police close in to capture Spongebob, Mrs. Puff tells the officer’s she has given him the uniform and responsibility. Mrs. Puff gets arrested for Spongebob’s actions.

This book was a humorous book with Spongebob and Patrick doing there typical silly things.

I would give this book five stars because I like Spongebob and it was similar to an episode of the cartoon, Spongebob always makes me laugh!

Jester's thoughts.
This is another entertaining read in the SpongeBob chapter books. Just like the episode Hall Monitor, Ms. Puff—with no other options—assigns SpongeBob the role of ✨Hall Monitor✨. And SpongeBob, being SpongeBob, took this role seriously… too seriously.

Note: Using new rating system starting 2025.
