A young lady who has known nothing but slavery since the age of nine. A young man who wants to be her hero. And the dark powers that will do anything to keep that from happening... ********** What if you'd been a slave since childhood, and were suddenly thrown out into the streets without a clue about how the world works? This is exactly what happens to eighteen-year-old Dalia. First forced to be a choir member from ages nine to sixteen by a white man claiming to be her adoptive father, then sold off to another white man who kept her chained in a bedroom to do computer work, she dreams of one day escaping to find her freedom.
Turns out, she doesn't have to. One day, Ted, her owner, insists that a "voice" told him to set her free. But despite gifting her with a backpack full of items to help her survive, Ted doesn't give her what she really needs to claim her knowledge about how the outside world really works. Just when she starts to figure out a plan to get back to her homeland of Kenya so she can avoid white people – especially white men – forever, she discovers that complete strangers know her name.
But when she realizes she's lost all the money Ted gave her, she has to risk trusting somebody.
Jared Whitlock, a twenty-year-old who has traveled to Phoenix for a missionary conference, does his best to convince Dalia that he's telling her the truth that he knows and lives with two of her "slave sisters." But she's skittish, and if she's not giving him the cold shoulder, she's running away from him.
At first, all Jared wants is to reunite Dalia with her African friends, his foster sisters who live in Oklahoma. But it doesn't take long for his desires to get more selfish. He is attracted to her, and feels an odd compulsion to be her protector.
Dalia works hard to deny and resist the attraction she feels toward Jared, believing that she'll never be happy unless she's completely independent. She doesn't want a protector, especially a white one.
What she doesn't realize is that she needs a protector. The voices talking to Ted, the ones he's heard for years, are demanding that he recapture Dalia and bring her back into his home. If he doesn't obey, the voices will drive him completely mad. Dalia and Ted must both learn that there is always a price to pay for freedom...and it doesn't always look the way you think it should. ******** This Christian women's fiction suspense novel is the fourth in Emily Josephine's series, "Pine Mountain Estates."
Assuming she's still alive when you read this, Emily Josephine lives somewhere on Planet Earth with a couple of people she refers to as "family" when she's in a good mood, writing stories with characters who lead much more interesting lives than she does, with an eye toward entertaining readers as well as encouraging them to grow into the person God created them to be, and in so doing endeavoring to kick the habit of writing run-on sentences; however, she sometimes waxes Charles Dickens-ish and is at such times unable to help herself - and speaking of famous people, if you look for "Emily Josephine" on any social media site or on YouTube, you will find more than one person going by that gorgeous name, but it will not be THE Emily Josephine, the author about whom you are now reading, because Emily Josephine The Author is severely and deathly allergic to both social media and YouTube, and if anyone tries to assert the proposition that such an allergy is an absolute and certain impossibility, she will stoutly deny their denial, "stout" being an absolute and certain absurdity in this context as there has never been anything stout about Emily except for the blessedly brief period of her life when she was pregnant and a mommy to a newborn baby.
I just finished reading Finding Dalia, the 4th book in the Pine Mountain Estates series. Dalia was sold away from the children she considers brothers and sisters. The rest of her friends are now free and unbeknownst to her have started searching for her. Emily Josephine weaves this story together from several viewpoints, including that of the person who kept Dalia enslaved. When you realize just how little Dalia knows about the world you can forgive her indecisive nature. Just give her some grace in that area and you will enjoy this book immensely.
Dalia's misery is used to bring wonderous healing and love into every life she touches. YHWH'S hand in Jared's life is clearly mapped out. Each twist and turn is exciting and purposeful. This book can be read stand alone, but is sooo much better if series is read in order. Props to the author.
This is another great book by Emily Jefferson. She truly gets your attention and keeps the story moving along without all the yucky sex. For a real blessing, read a book by Emily.
I thoroughly enjoyed the entire series (praying it doesn't end here) but this by far was the most heart wrenching. The things Dalia had to go through to finally obtain freedom, is a testament to the love of God. She had to learn how to seek Him, hear Him and trust Him. Love is powerful! God's love and His grace, is beyond powerful. Read it...then you'll understand.
I am absolutely thrilled with the way this book was written and enjoyed every twist and turn of the story!! I found myself praying for the characters as I was reading and I cannot remember ever having done that before!!!!!
