A gang of roaming gunslingers down on their luck cross paths with a mysterious one-eyed preacher. When the priest offers them their long sought after "honest work", they will jump at the chance. But this strange encounter was no mere coincidence, something these outlaws will soon find out.
Their destination? Hollow Canyon, a place thought to be more of legend than of fact. Inside the looming, towering stone walls, an ancient evil awaits. An evil that has set its sights on finally freeing itself from the confines of the wicked pass.
As I read this, I thought it could easily be adapted into a short screenplay, so I wasn’t surprised to hear that it was in the end notes.
Curtis keeps to the plot of a gang of thieves, hard on their luck, given a promise of honest work by a preacher who sends them on a journey through what turns out to be cursed land.
It’s simple, a fast read with characters that are clearly delineated, with dialogue that sounds real, not stilted or on the nose. It totally reads like a book adapted from a script. I personally like crisp narrative over flowery, overwritten prose. And yet I still wanted to edit a few passages, maybe take out a lot of the "he said, she said" qualifiers that felt unnecessary.
Overall though, this piece shows a talented writer who is well worth the read.
Second book by this author. Love how in both books, it starts out with anxiety inducing action. I love when stories jump right into it! While an enjoyable read, I have to say, it was confusing at times. I felt like I was missing part of the story at times. Definitely recommend!
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. The word choices by the author really lend an authenticity to the time period and the genre melding worked more than I expected it to. Worth a couple hours of my time.
Another awesome wester horror. Highly recommend it. The protagonists in this book are quite a mixture. Outlaws, a priest ,An indian and innocents caught in the crossfire with Demons looking for souls. Love the humour as well.
Fun little Western Horror Short. Kinda predictable at times but I loved every second of it so I can’t complain. Also loved the dead space references if I wasn’t just imagining those.
