Maxie Duncan wants to celebrate her first Halloween as a witch in style. Unfortunately for her, the Supernaturals don't celebrate it like humans do. They would rather sit at home, watch movies, and hide from the spectacle the norms think creatures of the night are.
She needs help. She needs to find a way to restore the joy Halloween use to bring. She comes up with a plan. Throw the biggest party Enchantment Cove has ever seen. Can the Supernaturals that live there be convinced there is fun to be had in even the most backwards of traditions?
Maxie has her hands full with the plan, but if anyone can pull it off, it's her. Too bad something is dead set on crashing her party of the year. Now the night may really be "to die for".
For a short story read in about 30 minutes, this was quite fun! I haven't read the previous book, so had no idea about the background of the characters, but there's enough history in this short story to be able to work it all out.
Maxie has recently become a witch (not sure how that happened though!) and is slowly learning how to cast spells and use her powers. As Hallowe'en approaches she gets all excited as it's her favourite holiday of the year, but her friends refuse to celebrate it with her, because as supernaturals (they are a witch, werewolf and a pixie) they believe it makes them look stupid and humans ridicule them. Marcie decides to change all that and casts a spell, but the results are not what she expected at all...
This was a good fun, light hearted read, which has made me add the other books to my wishlist!
This is a novella length book, so not very long, but very entertaining. It is fast paced with interesting characters and the storyline makes for a nice Halloween read.
Maxie Duncan has not been a witch for long and is looking forward to her first Halloween as one. It's her favorite holiday and she wonders why her new supernatural friends do not want to celebrate with her. There is a male witch, her friend and possible boyfriend, a pixie roommate and her boyfriend the trickster, they all reside in an apartment complex full of other supernaturals. Maxie wants to show them that the season has more meaning than they give it credit for. And as a nascent witch trouble of course ensues.
I enjoyed this so much that it has definitely interested me in the series, so I will be going back to number and getting to know the whole story of Maxie and how she became a witch.
Interesting short (novellette?) which I presume is meant to be a bit of a sample for the books in the series. The writing was good, the characters as fleshed-out as they could be in something this short. It made me want to read the full novels though, so I suppose it's done it's job :-)
This was an in-between book, #1.5 in the series, and I really should have read the first one before this. I was lost, but that was my fault, not the book's. It was okay, probably would have been better if I knew more about the characters.
Okay it wasn't too bad, short but not bad. I feel better now that I know there is another book to give me so background info on Maxie. Could have had more detail in the story line but it didn't suck and it got me through my morning commute.
There's not much more to add to this review than what's in the blurb. Maxie is still struggling with her witchy powers. She's still struggling with her decision to be "friends only" with Jensen.
I like the writing style that Melissa Webb uses. Snarky enough to sound like the way people think without being blatantly ridiculous. I will definitely read more from her.
