Cobalt Security #2

Without Fear: Cobalt Security, Book 2

Rate this book
Their date turned out to be so much more, but not in the way they'd hoped.

Logan Cobalt rarely dates, but finds himself asking out the elusive waiter at Bailey's Cafe. Sure, he has spent numerous lunch hours chatting up the beautiful man over sandwiches, but nothing has come close to a real date. When Logan finds out Macy's hiding a secret, he will move heaven and earth to keep the man safe. After all, he runs a successful security and bodyguard business, so it wouldn't be hard to issue a protection detail. Would it?

Macy Finch has a secret, and keeping it quiet proves difficult. When Logan Cobalt finds out, Macy gives it up. What he really wanted was to deepen his relationship with Logan AFTER he took care of some things, not before. But when Logan asks him out on a real date, he just can't refuse. When things go south, Macy agrees to temporarily let Logan help. Now, if he could just get the man to realize he cannot be bossed around, they just might make this work.

After all . . . Their age difference is irrelevant.

Their income differences are not a factor.

Can the fact that Logan tries to treat Macy like a piece of porcelain glass be a problem?

Contains mature themes.

Another decent entry in the Cobalt Security series

I wasn't expecting this one. I have to hand it to the author for the way this plotline developed.

No spoilers but I will say, having loved Macy in Elijah and Julian's book, he started to annoy me a tad in this one once his secret was revealed.

I understood him not wanting to be coddled, but he went off on one at Logan sometimes for the tiniest of reasons.

There's also a couple of deaths that were skated over with only the smallest type of fall-out, I'd have liked to see more time given to the after effects of them personally.

Otherwise, this was well-paced and didn't get too badly tied up in the bad guys repeatedly escaping, although there's still way too much gunfire on the streets without it seemingly having any repercussions!

DNF @ 40%

I loved Risking It All, and I liked Macy in that one, so of course I wanted to read his story. When I downloaded it, I was surprised to see I was already at 40%. But it wasn't on any of my shelves. I was confused. And then I read a page, and it all came rushing back to me. In this book, Macy is a whiny little bitch, and I hated him. Any time Logan tried to do something to keep him safe because that was, you know, WHAT HE DOES FOR A LIVING, Macy bitched and moaned and threw a hissy fit about how he was an EQUAL, and he wasn't HELPLESS and he wouldn't take the goddamned help and expertise that was being offered because somehow it would mean that he was a useless waste of space. Or something. I get it, he didn't like feeling helpless or feeling that someone saw him that way. But there are better ways to communicate that than throwing bitchy little tantrums that, if they were recreated by a 2-yr-old, would have that child flailing away on the ground, holding his breath until he passed out, while all the adults in the room rolled their eyes and shook their heads.

I don't know how a character can go from being sassy and biting but still likeable in one book, to such a whiny irritating mess that I wanted SO MUCH to bitch slap into next week. He was written likeable in Risking It All in 2019, so why ruin that in 2020? I could see dialling him back if he was written douchey first and the author got pushback on it, and redeeming him in the following book. But why the other way around?

I remember now why I gave up the first time. I was finally tired of yelling at him for being a whiny bitch of a douchecanoe, because reading is supposed to be my happy place. This time, I'm reviewing it, so I don't make the same mistake a third time.

Not what I expected but

I really did enjoy this book. I think Macy was over exaggerating where Logan's protective instincts lay. It was out of love and not for his need to control. They could have taken it down a notch. You can be equals and protect each other at the same time. I don't feel like Logan was was treating Macy as less or like glass. He had complete faith in his skill, he just wanted to do it together. I expected more scenes of Echo to which I love his loyalty and affection to Macy and Logan but it is what it is.

I didn't like this book at all! I feel bad but km sorry I could barely get through it. I found long parts of it boring and it was hard not to fall asleep while reading it.

huh

As much as I liked the first book , I quite disliked this one. I felt I am missing so much information about the relationship. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some in medias res, but this was more like we will throw you in the middle and gonna ignore you for the whole ride…. And maybe it’s just me

dnf’d at 51% my god I just can’t stand this Macy guy what a whiny combative little man. Unnecessarily rude and stupid and honestly can’t watch a man like Logan (who has presented as a rich badass) end up with this guy. I rolled my eyes whenever he talked.

Sorry but no... I had such high hopes for this one...
I liked Macy in Justin and Elijah's book and Logan in Liam and Spencer's but here...
As much as I love Logan, Macy got on my nerves from the start and on Chapter Eleven I just give up... The start of the book was sluggish for me, but I thought that after a couple of the first chapters it will get better (you probably had a book or even a couple of them like that in your career as a reader) but it did not.
Christ, what a whining, self-absorbed a*shole Macy is!!! So ungh... Just a big no-no for me with this book, because I can't stand him.

As of pairing ranking (I was really wondering if I want to put them here because they are soooo way off the list [and not in the good way], but then I was like, it won't harm anyone if I put them here, although they will probably end up at the very end every time, unless another pair beats them, which I doubt lol.):

I loved this story of the two men who were just as capable as each other it just took Logan longer to realise. Lots of emotions and feelings in this dramatic story as both men struggled for dominance and survival. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.

This is the second book in the Colbalt Security Series and it follows Logan, owner of Colbalt Security- twin of Liam from Taking it Slow and older brother of Elijah and Ashley from Risking it All. Logan meets Macy- the vibrant waiter at Baileys Cafe- when he comes to help his younger brother out of a sticky situation and he’s immediately drawn to this man. The problem is there’s an age gap and at first it bothers him but he continues to travel to Crumpet to visit Macy whenever he can.

Macy on the other hand has a huge secret, he is not who he seems, he so much more! This is a true case of you can not judge a book by its cover and that you shouldn’t judge others based off their looks, how they dress or the things they like- they might completely surprise you at what’s underneath. I love the twist that’s revealed about Macy and how things unfold when crap hits the fan. Very enjoyable read, I hope this is not the end of the Colbalt Security Series there’s some other bodyguards and there interactions to get that I’d love to see more of!

I could not get into this book. I loved the main character who owns the security agency; he was great in the first book. This book though, his love interest I cannot figure him out. He does nothing for me as a "person". He seems overly eager to look for a verbal argument and that seems like too much high maintenance for me to root for someone in a relationship. Had to stop reading the book, because I was bored and just not interested.

I also had trouble coming into book two and suddenly introduced or reintroduced to characters that the author feels we should already know. Like the owner of the security company... his family. There must have been other books in the authors world that I did not know about. So I felt lost in the storyline like I was missing out on things that everyone else seems to already know about.

I hope there were a lot more people out there who enjoyed this book than I did.

Out of the 3 loosely related series (Out for Justice, Code of Honor, Cobalt Security) my favorite books were of the Phoenix team (Out for Justice). Most of the books were entertaining reads even when suspension of belief was needed. I just couldn't get into the over the top story in Without Fear. The Macy character was introduced in a previous book as a flamboyant, makeup wearing twink (so annoying) working as a waiter at Justin's Cafe, and now in this book he is suddenly a badass super agent? I liked Logan and I enjoyed the appearances of members of Infinity and other secondary characters, but overall, this book was the weakest one of the series for me.

Progress

When Reese Knightley says there are secrets, she’s not kidding. Some made me squeal in glee and others, well, you’ll just need to read for yourself to find out. I will say the adorably snarky but mysterious Macy made my head spin in the best way. He’s a force and exactly what serious but sexy Logan needs. Life will definitely always be interesting with these two. The one who stole the show for me though is Echo. He is freaking amazing and I love him to pieces. Intense, gripping and action-packed, I can’t get enough of all of these men and the truly fantastic family they are.

Different direction

Was the direction I would have gone as an aspiring writer and an advent reader? But I saw how you were able to tie the previous books into the story and make it work. Awesome style of writing, and that's one of the things I'm trying to do? But have not been able to master yet. But I'm loving your style of writing so I'll be definitely looking for more of your books to read. I think you should a book for kingley and the one that's always fighting, I think they like each other and deserve their own story.

I wanted to like it so bad

Reese you know damn well we've been waiting for Macy's and Logan's story for a hot minute. I don't know what this was?!! I hated to rate this a three star but seriously though? You went too damn far based on the book setting this up you know it! I see where you tried to go with this but I can't even. For those who've read the books perhaps you vibe with me. If you haven't, catch up.

Macy and Logan are the main characters for this book and I loved this story. This series and others by this author are intertwined to a point, so I appreciated the look back onto their story in the flashback scenes.

Logan owns a security company and Macy has a secret. After months of "dating" the secret comes out and lots of love happens and bullets fly.

This story has a wonderful HEA. Can't wait to read more from this author.

Good story over all.

Got a little confused here and there when I wasn't sure who was talking sometime. I know they did the chapters as each person point of view it was still a little confusing as you read. I also think it been to long between this book and book one that I read because I don't remember these two meeting. Macy was he'll on wheels. Giving off a soft vibe but was a FBI undercover agent and was able to fool everyone.

This one was kind of a mess. I mostly enjoyed the first book in the series. But I hadn’t read the other series and a shit ton of characters came out of nowhere with little to no explanation.

Logan had no character development and the relationship building between the two MCs was virtually non existent. They hadn’t even been on a date and were separated for over a month before just blurting out love yous.

Not sure I will continue with this author.

Completely different feel from the first book.
Logan seemed like a chump in this story. Macy played him for 9 months only to jerk him around after they ran into trouble due to Macy being undercover FBI. Macy was a fucking immature brat.

Their first date Logan wore slacks and a white button-up, and Macy wore a lime green sheer top to show off his nipple rings.

DNFd but I will try the 3rd story.

Macy totally stole the show! I loved the personality, the sass and the badass moments so much! It was a great counterpoint to Logan’s broody setup!
The book is a great balance of action and plot with the relationship development. I liked how the guys went from zero to sixty once they allowed themselves to get involved!
It read as a great action flick with just the right amount of sweet romance!

Even Steven!

Action, suspence. Operatives of the Security Firm working with FBI and other agencies all to catch a man that had escaped from a Prison. Logan the head of Security has fallen for a man that unbeknown to him was FBI. Finally able to get some answers from Macy who then ended having to go in protection by FBI fled. Its a Love story finally. ❤️

DNF 24%

I read the first book and liked it but about 24% in of this book and I just didn’t like the vibe I got. The relationship non-relationship to movement into a relationship isn’t for me. I’ll read the next but I think you should read the books prior and I hadn’t read any of the other books than the first of the series so I just felt completely lost. No thanks.

Not at all expected but it was good

I came back to this series after reading the two others and after a break for a few months so it was a little difficult to keep everyone's names and affiliations and partners straight in my head but this was a nice backstory and romance, if a little quick.

The Cobalt Security series of books is intense and romantic. A hard combination to achieve but Reese Knightley does it every time. Loved this story and I can't wait to read the next one.

Omg, loved this!!

Macy was bad ass!! Logan never knew what hit him. I loved them together. Logan had to feeling his protective nature because Macy could definitely take care of himself. Loved this book. Can't wait to see whose next.
