In the wake of his confrontation with Lihng, Keith finds himself stranded deep in Necro-Beast territory, surrounded by waves of the undead.
While this is happening, Lihng–who is furious that Keith has managed to slip her grasp–proposes an alliance with the Empress.
Keith’s enemies only grow more powerful, as he prepares to confront the most terrifying and cunning World Monster to date. The Terror Queen is unlike any creature Keith has faced, and he’ll need more than a little luck to bring her down.
We Hunt Monsters is a LitRPG series in a fantasy world. This book contains multiple stat sheets, item descriptions, epic quests and of course, loads of monsters.
-1 star because I wish the main character would get smacked down and humbled for once. He's a massive asshole, and I hate him. I'm no psychologist (nor do I wish to be one), but I'm pretty sure Keith is some manner of -path, probably a sociopath. He uses everyone like they are disposable tools, treats them like shit, and literally doesn't care about anything but his own goals.
I said it in my review of the last book, I get that he has reasons for being that way, but it isn't fun to read. At all. The author is clearly aware that Keith is a major asshole too, as characters in world periodically tell him so, but Keith doesn't care. And I hate him for it.
Against my better judgment I will probably continue reading, but I am starting to root for the ending of the series to be that The Trickster screws him and his family hates him because they know about all of the horrible things he's done and the shitty way he's treated people.
To all authors out there: stop making your characters unlikable assholes that we can't root for. Jesus, even Dexter was easier to feel some sympathy for than protagonists like Keith, and Dexter murdered people for fun!
A man on a mission that will not be stopped, Keith
Keith desperately wants to get back to his family but to so that he must win the Trickster’s challenge and defeat all the world monsters. 2 have been defeated and he is scouting the Fourliance’s world monster while defending himself from assassins, crazy over powered people and monsters. Because Keith gets bored easily he also finally completes his automaton and gets a surprise, well another surprise as even a Sage as powerful as he is, is still an agent of the system as it uses him through quests that he soon cannot refuse. As his power grows, so does his challengers and enemies and boy does he make enemies! Stellar, powerful enemies that are starting to annoy him. Which means he will need to deal with the Empress to stop the assassins. But a new level of item is discovered and some pretty cool quest rewards are given to him that give him a better chance or another secret that could save him or destroy his enemies.
Okay... Question...does the author not have any friends or dedicated fans? This is book NINE and the sheer quantity of mistakes that should be easily corrected in this series is mind boggling. I don't enjoy being mean or the bad guy; the author's job is to review his work so that when it gets published it should be free of as many mistakes as possible.
Anyway, This book has so much happening, that it feels like the book should have been separated into more books to cover. Dealing with a spirit, dealing with a war, dealing with a world level boss, dealing with an insane avatar, dealing with a love struck avatar, dealing with a jealous automotan, and still there is more.
We see a little bit more of the last book's epilogue soap opera in this epilogue. Not sure how the author is going to fit spirit quest in since in theory Keith heads for the new continent next book.
Well this was nice! We finally get some cleaning several dangling threads by the end of this one, and we get the next World Monster killed! So that means it’s off to the Frigid seas! I’d guess we have 4, maybe 5 books left to finish this thing off! And while I’ll be. Little sad to see it go, it’s been moving along nicely!
Notes from this one: Keith gets some serious skill upgrades and an insane new item so his damage is through the roof now! Also can’t wait to see what his new elixirs and items end up being in the next book since he got a lot in this one at the end!
I’m not super fond of Selena the automaton or her attitude as well as Jade’s. But there’s probably stuff going on there later.
But overall I enjoyed this one, and now the long wait for book 10.
2.5 Continuing the same as most of the other books in the series.
Lots of battles that take multiple chapters with the MC being the only one who can kill the big baddies after getting some item or skill at just the moment to win.
And he continues to think and speak about how he needs allies and a the guild he is “building” to hunt down the World Monsters to get back to family he should after hundreds of year of living not even really have any attachment to. But instead of building connections he is abrasive and aggressive to everyone, even to his supposed friends and allies he is obviously (even to them) just using them.
The one glimmer of personality growth he had in one of the books seems to be gone.
I do like that as the series has gone on the combat has been more descriptive than just reading ability names and damage numbers. Now there is a bit more.
This series has so much going on and it never stops. But some how Oster makes it work. It never gets boring and he ties everything in without cutting things short or adding mundane pieces. Also I’ve never read an author that implements stats skills gear etc so well to where it’s not overwhelming. Probably my favorite series
The story keeps on building on its strength, with its entertaining writing, satisfying action, and lots and lots of OP skills while still challenging our MC at every turn. I think this book was better than the previous couple of books, coz there were a lot of things going on, and plot points were resolved. Exciting times for the next arc already teased, so the next book is eagerly awaited.
This book has me pumped for the rest of the series!
I’m not great at writing down my thoughts, so I’ll just recommend that you absolutely read this book if you enjoyed the book before even a little bit, as this book seems like a step up from the past books. Absolutely wanting to read the next one once it comes out!
Some people just want to rule the world and destroy others. Is that so wrong? As Bob would say on the way to rule the world. But first, they have to clear all of the obstacles in Keith’s way. Love this story and the series just keeps staying entertained and ready for more.
I've basically binge-read this series from 1 - 9 and have really become engrossed in the characters and the world he has created. Only minor issue I have is with quite a few spelling mistakes or lack of proof reading, hence why only 4 stars. Otherwise, this is highly recommended
Athother excellent installment in the series. Pacing is good, I like the MC, and killing undead is always a good thing. Quite a few quest lines still open, but a couple were completed also. Keep up the amazing story telling.
I enjoyed reading this book very much and I recommend this book to anyone who likes LitRPG and progression type of books with lots of action. More stats than I would like.
I'm hooked on this series, and I love how it's hard to predict. Only complaints (and minor) are the errors that were noticeable in this one. (Misused/repeated words)
The story is excellent, and the world building is top-notch.
The series is amazing and book 9 was over before I was prepared to have to wait again. The story line is great and I am thoroughly enjoying the expanding cast of characters and monsters. Keep ‘em coming!
Geez, not enough positive things to say about this book or this series, the author is epic, weaving magic and combat, great characters and truly awesome world building... Keep up the Great work!
9 books in and I’m still enjoying this series. Numbers go up and monsters go down. It’s all in the title - dude just wants to hunt monsters. Not his fault people won’t just let him focus on it.
I honestly thought by book 9 I would be bored with the characters the series. Instead I can’t wait to keep reading about Keith and Bob and his next journey.
I really enjoy this series so much. Once I start reading I can't stop until I'm finished. And then I can't wait for the next one! Keep up the great work!
Continues to be engaging but I felt this was one of the weaker books. Lots of meaningless action, some of which felt there just to fill up page space. I wanted to see more world and political development but felt that was brushed over, along with some confusing decisions. Overall will continue as it is still fun to read.
