A Monstrous Dread #3

A Different Kind of Monster: A Supernatural/Horror Thriller Series

Rate this book
Jillian hopes she has finally found a safe haven in the Catskills, but as she looks out at the dense forest surrounding her secluded RV campground, she can't help but wonder if she's leapt from the pan into the fire. After leaving a promising career at the FBI, she's been on the run, constantly pursued by malevolent supernatural entities. Alaska and Wyoming didn't provide the sanctuary she was hoping for, but maybe upstate New York will be different.

But as Jillian tries to settle into her new life, she can't shake the feeling that something is off. It's not just the strange noises she hears at night or the eerie stillness of the forest, it's the lingering presence of something sinister. And as local young women start to go missing, Jillian suspects she may have stumbled upon a different kind of monster.

Desperate to protect herself and those around her, Jillian must use her unique ability to see the paranormal to unravel the mystery of the missing girls. But as she delves deeper into the dark underbelly of the Catskills, she realizes that she may have met her match. And if she can't stop the abductions, she may become the next victim.

I love books.

Everything I've learned about writing has grown from my love of reading. I began my writing career at the tender age of seven, when I wrote a play for my third-grade class. It was not an assignment; I did it because I discovered I loved creative writing as much as I loved reading. I received a children's typewriter the next year, and countless short stories followed.

I wrote some awful poetry during my teen years, then some not-so-awful short stories over the next two decades. I became serious about writing books ten years ago. The timing felt right, and I created the world-altering habit of writing every day.

My first published novel, Secrets Under the Mesa, began as a short story. I decided it had some legs and went with it. The inspiration for The Troop of Shadows Chronicles emerged from two directions: my love of post-apocalyptic fiction and a recent interest in disaster preparedness.

Stephen King says, "Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work."

The hard work is worth it. I hope you enjoy my novels. I wrote them for fellow book lovers just like you.

I live in the suburbs of Dallas, Texas, with my husband and three spoiled rotten rescue dogs.

The characters really come to life in this third installment of the Monstrous Dread series. Jillian and Jackson each pursue a separate monstrous pursuit, and the two are entwined in a seamless plot. The fast pace and nail biting chapter endings made me reluctant to put the book down. This one is the best of the series so far. It can be read as a standalone, but I don't suggest it. Start with book 1 to get a full sense of the backstory. It will only add to the richness and three-dimensionality of this book. Can't wait for book 4!

A Different take on the supernatural....

To Jackson and Jillian, it is all " natural " as they can see what walks among them....but yes, they are "super beings" and being visible to the siblings is NOT part of their plan. Therefore the pair must be eliminated and quickly. However, that is proving much more difficult than expected and patience is fast wearing thin.....A superb and unusual series that continues to improve by leaps and bounds!

Couldn't get enough!

I'm loving this series and can't wait for the next one! Huntsman Smith has a knack for creating enduring characters that you find yourself missing (I hope to see more of them in upcoming installments). I highly recommend checking out this series as well as her other books.
