Rate this book
What is the best way to achieve success?

Some people tell you it's through motivation. Visualize, believe, need, and desire a result, and it will come true. Others say you need a system. Trust the process, and over time you'll eventually arrive at the right destination. Other people say their results are the product of great coaching. Find a mentor or a guide, and they will get you there.

Each of these perspectives holds a portion of truth but misses the bigger picture.

In this audiobook, productivity and leadership expert Dave Crenshaw walks you through the formula his executive-coaching clients pay thousands to learn. The Result teaches the proven, practical formula for getting what you want.

So, the most important question to answer What result do you want?

“What result do you want, that you’re not getting right now?”

Author/life coach Dave Crenshaw writes, speaks, coaches, advises – any format suitable for helping to build productive leaders. His connections to his vast audience are through Time magazine, USA Today, FastCompany, the BBC News and courses on LinkedIn Learning. Dave has transformed hundreds of thousands of businesses leaders worldwide.

Dave’s approach is so immediately accessible that not finishing this book once started is almost impossible. His dialogue is directed to each of us and that is were he scores highly on the communication scale – ‘We multitask at dizzying speeds so much that we don’t have the time to stop and ask ourselves the truly important questions. For all our busy-ness and get-it-done attitude, we can’t see the forest for the tree we’re about to walk headlong into, face down in a glowing screen….Think of this book as that genie in a bottle. Go on, rub the lamp and wish for something! What’ll it be, master? What result do you want? Now, unlike the genie, we’re limited by the basic principles of physics and fundamental logic. For instance, I can’t take you, all five feet and four inches of you, and—voila! —magically transform you into a star NBA center. What this book can do, within the limits of the laws of the universe, is help you achieve your dreams. It is a reality. It can happen, and I’ve seen it happen repeatedly over two decades of working with people around the world. The formula I’m going to show you to help you get the result you want is surprisingly rather simple. It isn’t easy, though. You’ll get out what you put into this book. If you work this simple system, you will achieve the result. But first, you must decide what result you want. The genie can’t make your wishes come true without a clearly defined outcome.’

The book is divided into sections that magnify the intent of Dave’s ‘formula’ – The Question, The Result, The Formula, Accountability, Motivation, and Next Steps. And within these categories are scattered meaningful challenges, such as ‘Gaining focus and specificity can be challenging. Finding a clear result requires clear thought. This is why I recommend you establish a weekly pattern of holding a “Result Hour.” ‘What does a successful result look like?’ And there are the Result Getters (RG's) –‘The result will help you make more money. AND/OR The result will help make your job easier. AND/OR The result will help make your job more enjoyable.’ ‘Impatience is the enemy of success.’ And of course Dave’s Formula – ‘Define the result in the first column. Analyze what you’re missing in terms of the three elements: a. Systems b. Accountability c. Motivation Choose one next action step to take. Gather and process that action on your calendar.3 Take that action step when the time arrives. Repeat until the result is achieved.’

It is rare that communication between writer and reader is as solid and credible as Dave’s extraordinary book offers. This is a major impact on achieving the Results we want. Highly Recommended.

Dave Crenshaw created a plan that helps you focus on one area you want to change. He breaks it down to clarify the intent in which you want to accomplish your goal. When you understand the difference between tactic and strategy you can better understand how to use your Result time effectively and energize yourself for the next step in improving or making the change you initially intended.

What I love about The Result: The Practical Proven Formula for Getting What You Want would be how Dave Crenshaw realizes that each person views success differently and strives for different goals in their life. But this book allows you to clarify your goals and helps you step back and picture what you want then shows you how to take the steps to achieve it. Some things he teaches I have heard before, but repetition is the key to learning. He also points out what you should be looking for a personal coach to reach your full potential.

The first look at the cover of this book left me eagerly itching to read more. I totally love everything about this book. I got most of the answers I’ve been searching for in this book.
This powerful self-motivating easy-to-read book by Dave Crenshaw by addresses the basic principles to apply when building a career or hoping to improve the standard of your life. I am really impressed with the amount of work Dave put in to bring all the simple points together into one book. This is one book I will be reading over and over for a long time.
I love the fact that the author used clear English and detailed examples to go through the important questions bothering on achieving career goals, personal goals, and organizational goals. One thing I like most about this book is how the Author went ahead to explain the key principles required when setting a goal – Focus, and specificity. While people like myself have a lot of set goals, we want to achieve them all at once thereby missing all the target. This book has helped me learn how to prioritize my goals and take them one step at a time.
This book is a very important piece to read. It has helped me to develop practical ideas on how to set short/long-term goals. The interesting fact I noticed in this book is that it comes with a worksheet where I can always follow along as I read the book.
This is one book I really enjoyed reading. The moment I picked up this book I got engrossed and couldn’t let go until I finished the last chapter. I learned a lot of valuable lessons from this nice piece.

Many books have been written purporting to show how a person can get what they want from life, personally or professionally. This book attempts to do it in less than 100 pages.

What result do you want that you are not getting right now? It's tempting to write a long list. Focus on just one thing at a time. It also needs to be specific. Saying that, for example, you want to lose ten pounds in the next two months is better than simply saying you want to get healthy. How will you know when you have reached your goal? What will you (or others) feel when you have reached your goal? Give your self a reasonable amount of time to reach your goal.

How are you going to do it? Start with the formula Systems + Accountability + Motivation = Goal. All three elements are required. The book looks at what happens when each of these elements are missing.

Accountability to a third party is essential. Someone else is needed to encourage (or push) you when your willpower is lacking. Follow-up is the way to gauge, and maintain, your accountability. What is your motivation? Set a specific period of time each week to think about your goal. Are you still on the right track? Resolve to do just one goal-oriented thing every day.

This is a gem of a book. It is made for busy people who want to get right to the action steps. It is very easy to understand, and is time and money very well spent.

Many of us crave to have success, but success in what way and to what extent? Reading this book is like having the author mentoring over you, asking thought-provoking questions and providing sound advice in your journey to find the success that you desire.

I have read some self-help books previously whereby the authors sound rather boastful. I completely respect them for their successes and achievements which give them the bragging rights and capacities to write their books. However, it could also make the reader feel distant and belittled. Yet Dave Crenshaw has come across as humble and motivating in his book with a sincere desire to help the readers define the success they personally desire and work towards achieving it.

What I like most about this book are the questions posed to the readers. The questions may seem simple yet many of us may not have put enough deep thought into them in our base to get certain things done and objectives met. Yet I do believe the author when he says it's essential for us to ask ourselves these questions in order to achieve the results that we want.

I highly recommend this book to those who are looking for practical action plans in their quest for success.

The Result is meant to help you reach your goal. The author Dave Crenshaw makes it easy for people to define a goal and go about achieving it. According to the author we should focus on a single goal at a given instant in time. This goal should be attainable and must be specific. For example if a person wants to lose weight then she should define a realistic time length (such as two months) to become slimmer in a realistic number (say 10 pounds). This goal is very much attainable is put in the right resources than a goal of losing 20 pounds in one week. Dave asks us to keep a weekly pattern of holding a "Result Hour" where a person must sit about an hour doing nothing but brainstorming on how to attain the goal. This Result Hour is more about strategy and less about tactics. To write more in the review would act as a spoiler to the book. However, I must say that the book is inspirational and plans your path to reaching your result in such a systematic manner that if you follow all of them then you must surely gain the desired result.

Just what I needed, a well written road map to making things happen.

The Result: The Practical, Proven Formula for Getting What You Want by Dave Crenshaw is a very short read, it only took me about 35 minutes to read through it the first time. I’ll be reading through it a little slower again this week to absorb the details, and will be referring back to it often. I can see how Crenshaw formula will work. It’s nothing earth shattering and not even a new concept but he managed to put it in an easy to understand form to follow. In order to make things happen we must first decide what we want to happen, then make ourselves accountable and stay motivated to get those results. Rinse, lather and repeat as necessary until final results/goal is reached. Sounds pretty easy right? Not really, if it was that easy people like me (and you, if you’re looking for books like this) wouldn’t need guys like Crenshaw to tell us how to make our wildest dreams come true.

Dave Crenshaw will take you on an incredible journey as he teaches you how to find success in practically everything you do. The book will guide you step-by-step in the process and explain what you need to do in order to succeed. You’ll find seven chapters inside which explore areas like motivation and the “formula” of how to get to where you want to be. Better yet, Crenshaw includes next steps at the end which can help you to get a head start on working toward your success.
At 106 pages, it isn’t that long of a read which makes it perfect for those who don’t have much time to invest in reading. The writing style is also fun, so it makes it an easy read and not too technical like some similar books. If you’re looking to expand and grow your leadership skills or just want to learn how to be successful, you’ll definitely want to check this book out.

Two of the most important questions you have to ask yourself: What do you want in life? How do you think you will achieve said goal?
Let’s get this out of the way, life might be unpredictable, but the ones who get it more complicated than it is none other than us, this is a short but meaningful read, I have read it so far like four times and every time I catch up details I missed previously, there is no big answer waiting for you out there to thrive, all is inside you, set a goal and fight for it.
It’s hard for us to remember what we dream last night and there is a reason for that, dreams are hard to catch but not impossible, this book inspires me even more to wake up every day and keep advancing in this world, if you feel something is missing, buy this book, is a short lesson but necessary for many of us.

If you are not satisfied with your current situation in life and have not the slightest idea of how to go about changing it, then I think you can easily gain some valuable ideas from this book. The author gives us seven chapters in which he explores what we truly want and then gives us the blueprint of how to achieve it. The chapters move from the question, the result, the formula, systems, accountability and motivation. Unlike other books, this one has common sense advice that is explained in a no-nonsense manner, and yet it does not appear to condescend. I thought it was written very well and found it had me thinking about my own lot in life and the things that I would love to change. I think that with the guidance presented here, I am now better equipped of writing up a game plan and actually sticking to it.

Easy to follow

The Result is a self help book that strives to help individuals reach their desired goal, whether personal or professional. It breaks down the process into each to follow steps, and the book has additional resources (such as charts) to help readers visualize their ideas. If you’ve read a self help book before and are looking to read another one, this information isn’t exactly game changing compared to other books but it is always good to hear information presented in other ways. It was an easy read - the author did a fabulous job with the flow of the novel. There were also several really good lines. The one that stuck out to me stated that “Being busy is not a sign of success; it is a white flag of surrender.” So true! Some people find success in an hour where it would take someone else three hours. I would recommend this novel.

The Result: The Practical, Proven Formula for Getting What You Want by Dave Crenshaw is a short, fast book that will help you achieve your goals whatever those might be. With this very simple approach Crenshaw lays out the framework in an easy fashion, for a easy yet substantial way to motivate just about anyone. This book is written in a fresh, easy speaking manner, concisely written with a very accessible tone. Just about anyone can get something out of this book. “The Result: The Practical, Proven Formula for Getting What You Want” is Dave Crenshaw’s guide to obtaining all of the success that is possible. Crenshaw looks at the world from a bigger perspective than just you or myself, so when he is explaining how to achieve one’s goals, it is something that is actually real and beneficial in the long run. He runs a steady technique that he uses with his own clients to help them achieve all they have wanted. I still feel a little skeptical after reading the book, but I am going to put his techniques to work and see how they do because I can’t allow life to just do it for me and expect the results to be what I want. I don’t think it will be hard to implement these ideas though, so I am excited to see the results of my new lease on life.

A good instruction guide to getting what we want

The book The results is a very simple to read short and to the point presentation of how to get the things you want. The basic formula is simple and easy to understand. The method presented in this book is really common sense that seems to elude us or make is think it is much harder than it really is. Imagine a system to success by holding yourself accountable with proper motivation. Dave Crenshaw has put together a good hand guide of old ideas and new innovation to help us get the things we want. Take this book and give it a shot. Keep it with you for easy reference and follow the process to success.

A powerful message hidden behind simplicity!
The book holds the message behind its simple and short pages. The message is about achieving your goals. Well, there is no magic in it, as per author’s perspective the path is really simple and repetitive. First, you should know your goal, what you really want? Then comes the way to achieve it. Keep trying and hold yourself accountable with every try, makes improvements, one step at a time until you are successful. The key lies in your persistent behavior and accountability. Interesting short book to be read, motivational.

The Result by Dave Crenshaw provides an easy to implement roadmap to continual business improvement.

Having already read several of Dave Crenshaw's books in the past I felt confident that this one would be easy to read and packed with actionable tips and advice. And he more than amply met those expectations. He lays out roadmaps that you can follow precisely if you are so inclined, or go off-road armed with some great ideas and create your own systems that work best for your personality and life goals/business needs.

One sentence that really grabbed my attention was. "Success is a dangerous thing because it can make people complacent." And he is right. How many times have you seen very well-known marketers completely disappear because they did not keep their content or outreach fresh and exciting? And as the title suggests you need to be continually asking yourself what results do you want to get that you are not getting now. And what do you need to do to get those results?

This short read was insightful and the motivation I needed to keep pushing towards my goals. This information is not anything unheard of - it IS presented in a manner I had not thought about and I can now see how I can achieve my goals by utilizing the advice given. I like how he wrote his "formula" in an easy to understand manner. He's not condescending but seems to truly want to help people understand that they CAN achieve what they want out of life. This was a good read and I will be re-reading sections to help me along my journey.

Simple not easy

It helped me figure out why some of the things I do work, and where I need to tune in. I like his emphasis on the power of meaningful repetition. I plan to reread his concepts not because they were new or innovative to me but because of the way he puts them together.

Just get the nuggets

Good book that makes you re-assess what you’re currently doing. There’s a bit of soft selling into the coaching program. Don’t have a weak mind and just read past that. You can skip the entire chapter on accountability. That is definitely the hard sell part haha.

What I liked the most is that there are practical examples which are relatable enough, all things considered. What I liked the least is the use of formulas, although they are reasonably simple to understand. I personally prefer the practical approach.
