My Neighbor's Secret

Rate this book
Charlotte McDougal

I hate him and I don’t even know his name.

The good news is my nemesis has made it abundantly clear the feeling is mutual. He did call me pretty, though, in the midst of a heated screaming match. Which would have been flattering, if I didn’t loathe him so much. But whatever. I don’t care how handsome he might be, or how charming the rest of the world probably finds him, guys who look like aged-out boy banders aren’t my type. Add to that, he’s got a knack for being in precisely the wrong place at the wrong time, and I was thrilled to march away from our angry skirmish and never see the bastard with the piercing blue eyes, ever again.

It wasn’t meant to be, though. As it turns out, my sworn enemy is my new next-door neighbor. F*ck my life. Luckily, he’s got a big secret to keep, just like I do. He’s in a jam, and so am I. So, we’ve decided to put our differences aside long enough to resolve our respective predicaments. Of course, we’ve made it clear this is going to be a business arrangement and nothing more. A necessary means to an end. But when you’re forced to work closely with your sworn enemy, a guy who happens to be ridiculously attractive and surprisingly funny—when he actually starts to grow on you, much to your shock—keeping things strictly professional becomes easier said than done.

My Neighbor’s Secret is a funny, silly, zany, swoony, spicy, enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity rom com that will make you laugh, swoon, and fan yourself, all the way to Charlotte and Auggie’s happily ever after.

This story was a fantastic little surprise! I can’t really tell you what I expected (lol), but what I experienced was way more than just a romantic comedy about a next door neighbor! I was fully entertained while swooning all over the place. I mean one minute I am cry-laughing and the next I am actually shedding a tear or two! What is this magic word wizardry?! I love Lauren Rowe’s style SO MUCH because it’s always a well written surprise!

There’s no denying that you will not want to put down this book once you begin. There is just entirely too much goodness in between these pages! GO DO THE THING NOW!

Anyone who knows me knows that I will read anything Lauren Rowe writes. Her books are like crack to me. I cannot get enough!

I was so excited when she announced she was releasing a new book, I always am excited and then when I saw it was Auggie and Charlotte’s story? Say no more, I didn’t even need to read the blurb, I knew I was going to love this book and just as predicted, I freaking loved it and I devoured every word in one-sitting and now, I’m left sitting here with the worlds worst book hangovers!

My Neighbors Secret was such a quirky, swoony and spicy read! It starts out as a failed meet-cute between Charlotte and Auggie but soon changes into an enemies-to-lovers relationship between these two neighbors with insane chemistry… and of course, the chemistry leads to so much more and what started out as a failed meet-cute turned enemies-to-lovers turns into a passionate and steamy love story.

The situations they got themselves into had me laughing out loud. These two were amazing. The chemistry, the connection, the banter and the push and pull between these two drove me crazy in the best way possible and had me swooning and fanning myself throughout the book!
The author put the perfect amount of humor, and heat with twists and turns that I did not see coming! It was such a rollercoaster! But a rollercoaster that I will gladly ride again and again!

All in all, this was a fantastic read that has taken first place as my favourite book of Lauren Rowe’s.
You need to read this book!!

5 Star Review My Neighbor's Secret by Lauren Rowe

I could not wait to read My Neighbor's Secret after meeting Auggie in his brothers’ previous book. I knew the woman who would capture his interest would be special and that’s Charlotte.

Agreeing to help one another out, neighbour’s Auggie and Charlotte need to put aside their differences for the time being, a cease fire if you will.

Neither expected the sparks that ignite between them but once they do, all bets are off.

My Neighbor’s Secret is a well written, highly entertaining story that ticked all the boxes for me.

I love Lauren Rowe’s style of writing; she is one of my go to authors. I know whenever I pick up a book that I am in for a well fabulous read with characters who you cannot help but fall for.

Paused @ 10%.

The beginning of this book made me feel incredibly anxious (references to financial struggles, unsupportive families) and the FMC irrationally lashing out at the MMC as a stress response kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe it’s behaviour I recognise in myself, lol.

A lot of the other reviews are glowing, so I might come back to this another time.

I haven't giggled as much as I have with this story in a long time!

Auggie and Charlotte's story started of WILd and continued to be as sexy as ever! I did not expect those two to have such explosive chemistry as they do.

Charlotte has had some bad luck over the last few weeks.. getting fired from her job and buying a new condo to flip have drained her bank account ... as well as some other stuff that you will find out when you read the book. So Charkitte is looking for a way to make some quick cash. When she finds out her hot neighbors secret she jumps on the chance to make some cash.

Auggie is one of the sweetest guys I have ever read. He does some stuff you wont expect from him but you will still fall in love with this guy.

Lauren has made me giggle, swoon and almost shed a tear with this new book!

My Neighbor's Secret by Lauren Rowe is the story 0f Auggie and Charlotte. Charlotte and Auggie have sparks flying from the start. But, they can't seem to over come their bickering attitude towards each other. They these two end up as neighbors which leads to more bickering until they both realize that they other person maybe useful. So they then go into a bargain that has them finding their is more to them then what they first saw. Enjoyed this book.

Okay Read

This was an okay read. I think I got spoiled with this author’s earlier series (Morgan Family, Reed, Hate/Love duet). This and the other books released this year have just been okay reads to me. They seem to lack that sparking connection between the main characters. Yes, their relationship sizzles with their on page interactions, but I just haven’t felt a true connection with them on the pages. I found myself skimming pages during the last 25% of the book.

I’m glad this author is releasing books again, but as someone who really enjoyed and binged all her previous books, I feel like something is missing. For new readers, you will find these newer books enjoyable, but I would recommend reading her earlier works, too.

Holy..... wow. Just WOW!

The first time I saw Lauren Rowe post a teaser for this book I just knew I have to read this. And dear god, what an entertaining joyride this was! I couldn't put it down, read it in one sitting and stopped at 2am, with a huge smile on my face. You know what? That smile was put on my face from the very beginning and never left. Sometimes it got brighter, other times I had to laugh out loud and other time I couldn't help but chuckle. Yes, I haven't smiled this big and and over such a long period in a while. I'm pretty sure my muscles in my cheeks are sore.

Auggie and Charlotte are fantastic characters and they perfectly balanced each other out. Charlotte is quirky, funny, thoughtful, clever and has a big heart. Auggie is charismatic, down to earth, having an even bigger heart.
I loved their meet-cute and how the hit it off on the wrong food. And when this made a quick u-turn, their relationship developing in rapid speed, it never came off as unbelievable. It made perfect sense for these two. It was just their pace.

Their chemistry is off the charts in- and outside of the bedroom. I can't remember ever having so much fun reading the spice part in a book. It was definitely refreshing.

My Neighbor's Secret is super funny, witty and fast paced, with extremely lovable characters. It's like a ray of sunshine in this dark winter period and the perfect moodlifter.

P.S.: Don't forget to click the link in the book right after you finish the epilogue, you won't regret it!

The perfect amount of awe worthy sweetness and steamy spice! At several points I felt the secondhand embarrassment and actually laughed out loud. There were a lot of moments that pulled at my heart strings though too, especially with Lloyd and Althea. I love that we got a little glimpse into another story there.
I think the whole book was just adorable, even with the spicy scenes because their feelings were just so clear.
I did feel it was strange that Charlotte was so adamant about being close to Carlo and his people, and then when they finally all met up, they never saw each other again. If they didn’t just let that storyline go, and maybe made the deadline more than a few weeks I would give 5 stars. Their connection was so strong, but two weeks to decide so much of your life is insanity. Make it three weeks or something 😂
Also, where the heck did Auggie’s dad go? Did his girlfriend take all the money and run? Did he die? Does the mob get him? WHERE. DID. HE. GO?!

Initially, I struggled with this book. I couldn't get invested in Auggie or Charlotte. I just wasn't in the mood for their capers, pettiness, and constant disagreements. Charlotte is definitely a 'Nut Job' because she was impulsive and pretty crazy. Auggie was sweet and his heart was in the right place. However, once they put aside their squabbles and hatched a plan to solve both their big problems, they got on really well and had blazing hot chemistry!! Their time together was ridiculous fun, sexy AF, and feel-good. I enjoyed their optimism and some of their exchanges even pulled at my heartstrings. Overall, a slow start for me but once they got going, they really revved my engine, and I was rooting for them all the way.

This was an ARC read for me, and this is my honest review.

I have to say I really enjoyed My Neighbors Secret by Lauren Rowe. I think this book was just so good. It has everything I look for in a book, a good storyline, awesome characters, spice, and good interactions between characters. This book will leave you on the edge of your seat wanting more.

The way Auggie and Charlotte meet is just hilarious, and you'll laugh and cry. They meet they have a connection, but Charlotte usually doesn't trust the pretty boy band type of boys. But she runs into him again and not a good experience. But they find out they live in same building. Then it heats up from there when they both get in a jam and have to help each other out, with raising money for each of their causes in an unexpected way.

This book will have you wanting more of all the characters. So definitely a must read!!

HAHAHAHAH WHAT THE FUCK DID I JUST READ

I feel like I've read a decent amount of romance novels by this point (if I do say so myself), and nothing really surprises me anymore. BUT NOT THIS TIME.

my goodness, I don't know what I was expecting but I was not expecting anything that happened in this book (and this is coming off of a reddit post that told me that this book had a ). I loved how this was the perfect blend of funny, crazy and wholesome haha. ESPECIALLY the whole arc about And OMG when .

Anyways, if you're looking for a book that will break you out of your slump, you should read this book for sure. It's funny, it's ridiculous, it has a little bit of mystery, a little bit of the mafia, and an enemies to lovers arc! What more could you want in a book?

4.5 Stars
My Neighbor's Secret was a lot of fun. It starts out with an entertaining meet cute and morphs into an enemy situation. Then a little something-something occurs that forms an unexpected alliance, which ends in a passionate love story. That is this romance in a nutshell. What elevates all that is Rowe's humor, her characters, the chemistry between them, and the sticky situations she put them in.

Charlotte was a spitfire and Auggie was a sweetheart. They were fire when they were hating on each other with their mean banter and actions, but they were explosive when they were working together. The lengths they went to solve their problems were both hilarious and fan (think wind blowing) worthy. There were also some very swoony moments between the two of them. I loved the evolution of their relationship.

Since this is a standalone in a series of connected books, it was fun to see characters I loved in the past show up. Auggie's brother Max's younger brother from Who's Your Daddy? was fun to see show up for his brother. I also loved T-Rod/Tessa's from Captain along with her family heavily featured in this book since she's Charlotte's best friend. Plus, there were also some really fun new characters to ramp this story up. Oh, and Auggie's dog Lucky brought something super special to the story.

Overall, this was another great romantic comedy from Rowe. I can't wait to read what she writes next.

Like with most books, I went in blind for this one. When I realized the book was about Charlotte, who I feel I've known for years at this point, I was so happy. This girl needed a story!

It was fun, very spicy, and had a solid plot going with it. It brought me back to Lauren's earlier books where there was some bad people involved, and I really enjoyed that!

Auggie was so sweet. I truly loved that man.

My Neighbor’s Secret is one of the funniest and most original books I’ve read this year!

Read this one for:
— Veterinary student with a heart of gold
— Laid off flight attendant who is feisty and the life of the party
— An adorable dog
— Close proximity
— Enemies to lovers
— He falls first
— Surprising secrets

Charlotte and Auggie are amazing together. The moment they meet, it's like a firecracker going off. When they stop fighting and start collaborating, they are still explosive, but in a great way. There is something so heartwarming about their loyalty to each other. These two deserve a happily ever after.

Somehow Lauren Rowe includes all kinds of laugh out loud funny, quirky, and spicy moments along with some truly heartfelt and swoony ones. While this is a complete standalone, there are cameos that will make both new and OG Lauren Rowe fans very happy!

My Neighbor’s Secret is a must read for romcom lovers. It’s definitely one of my 2023 standout reads!

Thank you to Lauren Rowe for an early copy of this book.

Well Ms. Rowe, you have done it again! I absolutely fell hard and completely embraced this story from start to finish.

This is Auggie's long-awaited story (well at least for me it was). I am always a sucker for the shy, quiet, nerdy types and Auggie doesn't fail to deliver all the goods!

Charlotte is just the person Auggie needs to bring the sparkle and fun into his world.

Their meet-cute, wasn't very pretty, in fact, it was downright vicious. But eventually, the heart wants what it wants and when Charlotte and Auggie come together, well it's a house on fire with swoons, heat, and hilarity!

The mystery, the intrigue and the downright laughs you are going to get from this new story from Lauren Rowe is epic.

I always love a happily ever after story!

What is Auggie's Secret??

4.5 stars
I was graciously given an ARC copy for my honest review.
This story is about Charlotte and Auggie.
Charlette has recently been laid off from her job as a flight attendant. She has purchased a condo in Seattle to flip and move on with her life. She has sworn off men while in Seattle.
Auggie is a veterinarian student. He is just about to start his first semester and is struggling with tuition fees. His father goes back on a previous promise of paying for Auggie's schooling. Auggie needs to make money and fast.
This is such a fun and quick read. I was laughing, crying, and hoping the characters got their happy ending. The reason I gave this one 4.5 stars is only because I wasn't a huge fan of the obstacle that Charlotte had to over come. It really didn't fit with the tone of the rest of the book. I have only read one other Lauren Rowe, but I absolutely love her writing and power as a writer to make me feel things. There is so much heart and love in Lauren Rowe's writing. Also her spicy scenes leave nothing to be desired. We get an open door to the bedroom.
Highly recommend.
This book also features characters from her other books. You do not need to read those to enjoy this book.

This is one bonkers extra, extra spicy romp! 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️!!! The whole story is completely over the top. Enemies to Lovers with a plot that is beyond and hilarious. And it all gets bundled up into a ridiculously ultra sweet bow. Auggie just happens to be a gorgeously tall beta protector with a massive …. and Charlotte is a gorgeous, impulsive and reckless ex-flight attendant with a talent for orchestrating some creative entertainment. Completely unrealistic, unsophisticated and dare I say too many explicit sexy times. I thought it was fun but I skimmed A LOT of the second half because I just wanted to get to the part where they had to confront the conflict and get to the HEA. If you don’t like crazy sexy times…this is not the book for you!!

My Rating: 4-4.5 stars!

** ARC was generously provided in exchange for my honest review. **

Even now, after having already finished reading this book I’m still giggling like a school girl. Hehehe. 🤭

I’m still kind of wrapping my head around what I’d just read if I’m going to be really honest here, guys. Rowe has written one of the funniest, blush-inducing romcoms I’ve read in a long time. Get those fans and air-cons going because you’re going to need cooling down after the constant belly-shaking workouts Charlotte and Auggie chug out throughout this book.

Giving away the main plotline of the story will indubitably give away the spark between these MCs and of course, the eye-popping secrecy that ultimately brings them together. But I will say this— I NEVER SAW IT COMING. The secret. It’s a plot twist I’ve never come across in all my romance reads and the second it became clear that that was the main focal point of the narrative my interest piqued double-time.

It’s well-paced storytelling that was constantly progressing. The build-up and romantic developments had me in an excited dopey state from start to finish. But the little emotional hiccups in-between grounded Charlotte and Auggie and ultimately ensured that despite the light-heartedness, at the end of the day there’s a time sensitive seriousness hovering above their heads. When I wasn’t filled with excitement, I was on tenterhooks.

Charlotte is an acquired taste. I feel like you’ll either instantly love her or like me, she’ll gradually grow on you. She makes some questionable decisions that I didn’t exactly agree with or happy to see. But I will say I do adore her and Auggie together and their quirky opposites-attract relationship made them an engaging couple.

Auggie (as well as Lucky) won me over from the get-go. I found his story realistic and relatable, and I easily connected with his introverted personality. His emotionally-driven character is endearing, and seeing him navigate and grow was one of my favourite things about this book.

Whilst this is a standalone, Rowe has smoothly incorporated characters from her others books into it. They’re secondary characters who added an amazing support system for both Charlotte and Auggie. I adore the tight-knit friendships and familial dynamics. There’s a profound sense of companionship and found-family within the cast of characters that’s so heart-warming to see that you can’t help but get invested.

I laughed. I gasped. I got misty-eyed. But all in all, I was left in happy contentment seeing their HEA. It was one emotional journey with a backstory that was just as gripping.

Although there are no real trigger warnings, it does broach on certain sensitive subject matters such as illness, death— resulting in mental and emotional trauma (stemming from bereavement).

Having already read a handful of books by Rowe, her writing is effortless to follow with catchy in-depth storylines, vivid world-building, and even more entertaining yet relatable characters. If you enjoy reading contemporary romances and rom-coms, I highly recommend reading this one along with Rowe’s backlist of books. My Neighbor’s Secret is a close proximity, enemies-to-lovers, strangers-to-neighbours premise with a scantily clad twist included. A fantastic, page-turning balance of spice and all things nice!

(Just try and not read it in public… *stage whispers* The sexual content may cause some eye-bulging). 😉🤭

I'm feeling so much disappointment I don't even know where to begin......

I have been a huge Lauren Rowe fan since I came across her books on audible, aside from a select few needing to be read in order, I've loved how they are all interconnected but can be read solo. You don't have to read the majority of them in order. With that said the last few I've read, this one included, has just left me wanting to bang my head against my desk, so lets get into it.

First things first, I don't feel that these characters were written well at all. Charlotte is supposed to be 32, with her best friend Tessa being older, and yet they speak and act as if they are still in their early to mid 20's. Auggie who is suppose to be younger than Charlotte comes across much more mature than Charlotte and at least closer written to the age he is suppose to be with his mannerisms and speech. Which shows A LOT in the first seven chapters(that's as far as I made it before having to take a pause, while contemplating DNF'ing the book entirely), because Charlotte is the most whiney, aggression filled human I think I've ever read in a book. She is entirely too world revolves around her, nose to the air sort of person with such low self-esteem, that she tends to put others outside of her close circle down, or make up such tales in her head just so she can feel better about herself. It's utterly annoying to be honest.

I mean for f*ck sakes she won't date men as hot as Auggie because of how his hotness makes her feel. She's constantly saying she will only date ugly people because they know just how lucky they are to be with her, even though the bedroom is mediocore. This feels like a consistent them so far in the book, because again I don't know if I can even finish it, of putting the opposite sex down for one reason or another. Or blaming them for how she is. Not to mention theres this big secret she has, that is mentioned quite often, yet you aren't even given a glimpse into what this could be. It's not like Auggie needs to know, but seven chapters in and it's still referred as this collassal mistake. At least we know one of Auggie's secrets, which honestly took me by surprised but also gave me some giggles too.

I just, I don't know how we got to this story and the utter disappointment but you can honestly move along from this one because your not missing anything except thirty somethings acting twenty. A women with so much anger she might honestly need help and a college student with an ahole dad.

Wow! This was a nice surprise. When this book popped up into my subscription emails I was immediately drawn to the story and added it to my Kindle list. At the time, I was in the middle of another book, so I didn’t get to read it as quickly as I wanted. However, when you read the first chapter and compare GoodReads’ description about it and it is totally different than what was shown in the email, you have questions. The accuracy was more on point in the email, compared to GoodReads so my disappointment was short lived. It had all the laughs, fun times, sensuality, emotion and tenderness I was expecting. I loved Charlotte and Auggie in this. To go from hating each other, then so drastically to becoming lovers, all thanks to a peephole was everything. The significance of the peephole plays a huge part in the story and what ultimately draws Charlotte to Auggie. You get a slow sensation of both of them trying to earn the other’s trust and figure each other out while keeping the attraction mutual without going too far yet. It was a delicious way for them to explore their intimacy and far from a slow burn though you do experience a teeny bit of this. Throughout the story, you slowly notice how they are both falling for each other and Auggie falls first. Combine their chemistry with a slew of curveballs and fresh starts and you get a page turner. I couldn’t put this down and kept wanting to see what would happen next. I felt on my toes but in a cute and touching way, not dramatic or traumatic. It was a different vibe for sure and I’m happy with how it all turned out. I was so pleased with this book, that I subscribed to this author’s newsletter because I really want to read more of her stories and possibly start this series that I jumped in the middle of unexpectedly since I thought it was just one book. I have to say though, I got really close to giving this a 4 because I had a hard time liking Charlotte in the beginning, she seemed unhinged and got angry easily at things that were out of her control and I wasn’t sure how I felt about that, I just know I didn’t like it. Thankfully, she changed my mind as I got further into the story, and I didn’t have any qualms about Auggie, I liked him immediately. Combine all this and you get a 5 from me. I can’t wait to read more of her books.
