Imagine if Dante and Milton were reincarnated as Mike Judge and the Coen Brothers and you might be getting close to the weird genius of Saligia. Anyone who has ever spent even a few hours in the purgatory of American wholesale superstores will immediately recognize Adam Perry's world of horrific characters and scenarios. As seven different characters in this novella (each guilty of one of the seven deadly sins) wake up in the hellish megastore ShopSmart, the reader revels in laughter at seeing cosmic justice dealt and shutters to imagine such a hell for himself. Well, actually the reader has been in this consumer hell week in and week out . . . but ShopSmart is for eternity! Read this book, marvel at its relevance, laugh at its horror, and think twice about being angry, greedy, envious, lustful, slothful, gluttonous, or proud.

Some of the most effective horror can be taking something you know and slightly twisting it so that it is familiar yet you can't help but notice something is off.

In this case, seven individuals show up at a Shop Rite where they can't help but notice something is not quite right. The deli is full of food yet no employees seem to be on duty. The line in pharmacy is long and never seems to move. The automotive department is working on BMWs and Lamborghinis. And the employees are careful to tell customers that you do NOT want to complain to the manager.

The result is an experience that would feel at home on Tales From The Crypt or in a town like Arkham, MA, or Castle Rock, ME.

Deliciously Dark. Attention grabbing dialogue. An excellent read for those that have a particular fancy for poetic justice.

Warning: May cause uncontrollable devilish snickering.

Adam Perry's novella "Saligia" is a potent mix of old testament and modern day sinners with a delightful dash of dark humour. This read will have you switching between tongue in cheek giggles and horrified gasps. Sparing little detail for the faint of heart, the author's cautionary tales will have any reader questioning their bad habits. A collection of tales that explores age old sins in their modern incarnations.

It has been a long time since I've had the pleasure of reading something so pleasantly petrifying. The way in which the author portrays the characters so honestly, so unabashedly, so unapologetically, adds a depth of realism that really draws the reader in. A must read for any horror/gore/thriller/dark humour fan.
