Grace Under Pressure

Rate this book
Excitement, danger, and falling for the man of her dreams all have Grace under pressure.

Small town college professor Grace Michaels’ normally boring life has become more than a sane woman can handle. First, her ex-finance shows up in town, then her parents park their RV in front of her house. It makes it kind of difficult to seduce her sexy new neighbor, Sheriff Ren Morello. Of course, having her office and home burglarized isn’t great either, but it does put her up close and personal with Ren.

Ren wants nothing to do with Grace. So what if he can’t seem to stop thinking about her? She is a woman who would demand commitment and after his nasty divorce from his cheating ex-wife, Ren wants nothing to do with marriage. All he wants is hard fast sex. The problem is, the only woman he can picture it with is Grace.

When the threats to Grace turn almost deadly, Ren finds himself in her company more often than not, and keeping his hands off her becomes impossible. But as the danger grows closer, the attraction grows deeper, and Grace must choose between protecting her heart or her life.

2.5 Stars for Grace Under Pressure (audiobook) by Melissa Schroeder read by Barry Flint.

This story was kind of disappointing. I was having problems with my Scribd app and to test it I noticed that this audiobook was available and I liked the cover so I gave it a try. I got the audiobook to play finally but the cover seems better than the book.

I really appreciate the humor this author includes in her books. The sexual tension between the main characters was definately hot, I would have enjoyed more of a peek at the romance between the secondary characters, but still a good read all in all.

Grace may not be the personification of her name, but really...a tumble down the stairs, a poisoned casserole, almost being hit by a car. Why would anyone want to kill a mild-mannered history professor?

Mild-mannered? Who does she think she's kidding? She's one of the hottest, sexiest women Ren has ever seen and all he can think of when he lays eyes on her is laying her!! She may be clumsy, but someone is trying to kill her and he will protect her--whatever it takes.

It's interesting. I started reading this book and being interested in Grace and her story line. But about half way through, I was completely won over by the secondary storyline/romance. I loved it, turning pages, waiting for those characters to reappear with scenes in the story.

All was going well until the story arc of that secondary storyline ... we're left hanging. Literally. The chapter ends, we go back to reading about the primary story and then we come back to the secondary story and we get a recap of the major conflict resolition and makeup by one of the characters. A quick recap. Then - that's all she wrote, and we basically only encounter those secondary characters from within the primary storyline.

I was pissed. And now I'm torn. Grace and her story lost my interest so I might give that story 2 stars ... but I was absolutely loving the secondary story (4 stars worth at least) until the almost climax and then the terrible way the story never really finished (although we know the outcome- i.e. they're together). So that let down was awful and gets star deductions.... so I guess the story earned 2 stars overall. Sadly, there was so much potential there... for awhile.

I quite enjoyed this romance about a curvaceous small-town professor and the new Sherriff who after his divorce tells himself he isn't looking for something serious. However, he still finds himself annoyed when the heroine's cheating ex won't stop coming around. There is also a side romance between the h's best-friend and brother. When someone starts to attack the heroine, the hero can't quite keep his distance. I actually liked the heroine Grace, how strong she was and how she had the courage to tell the hero that she wouldn't accept anything less and wasn't okay being a "nobody" in his life. Despite being in her 30s she was quite happy with her life and didn't feel the need to nab a man to feel fulfilled.

A clumsy but adorable heroine by the name of Grace Michaels meets a sarcastically funny hero, Ren Morello.

Grace is a dowdy looking College Professor. Ren is the new Chief of Police. The story takes place in a small Texas town.

Grace teaches at the small town college in Cannon, TX where she grew up. She returned to Cannon several years earlier after a failed relationship with an ex-finance who cheated on her, stole her research project, and various other horrible things that ex-finances do in the land of romance.

Ren, the new Chief of Police in Cannon, is a recent divorcee with no desire of a permanently relationship; however, he is strongly attracted to Grace from the very beginning.

The story takes on a touch of suspense when dangerous things start happening to Grace.

What I liked:
I liked the story line...classic dowdy looking girl meets incredible hunk.

Grace is a funny, if somewhat clumsy heroine. She has a wonderful sense of humor. She comes across as fun-loving, adorable, and fiercely loyal.

The hero comes across as strong, protective, and has a good sense of humor with a twist of sarcasm. He's makes a good hero - until towards the end when he becomes a complete ass.

What I didn't like:
Incomplete sentences, incorrect spelling, and things like that usually do not bother me, nor do I let them distract me from the story. That being said, this book was so full of such mistakes that it could be nothing but a distraction - to the point of frustration.

The story did not have an easy flow to it. Sometimes it was a struggle to follow the line of thought, sometimes the line of thought didn't make sense.

You must read over 70% of the book before you encounter hot action between hero and heroine. Usually this is not a problem if there is plenty of tension leading up to the first show down. I'm sorry to say, I did not find such tension here. It was luke warm at best.

My first impression of this wasn't great. The narration seemed harsh. I prefer the sound of someone like Julia Whelan, but this wasn't even close to that quality.

I was also put off at first by Ren, the new sheriff, an important profession that doesn't have the greatest public perception. And yet, despite being new to town, he's described as "smacking an outraged Grace on her rear end" after she has an accidental fall. Minutes after they first met. And he calls her "Red" despite being told not to do that. Again, they just met. And she's his new landlord.

Then there's a weird interaction with Ms. Janey, an admin worker at the sheriff's office. She jokes about having sex with Ren, again, just minutes after their first meeting, and a deputy sheriff is revealed to be a rude idiot.

Grace works in her hometown at a shitty Texas college in a room with windows that don't open. Her POS cheating ex-fiance, who had a job with the University of Texas, where she used to teach, decides to leave that cushy job and suddenly shows up to teach at her shitty college. For some reason, she is polite to him in public.

I have no problem with steamy novels. In fact, I like them. But this book started off quickly with the characters having explicitly described crude thoughts about each other. I would have preferred a little literary foreplay before reading how wet she gets at the sight of him and how he needs to masturbate to thoughts of her. Again, all this minutes after we read about their first meeting.

I stayed with it a bit longer, but when Ren came over on girls' night, and finds out that Grace had consumed 10 shots of tequila, and was dangerously drunk, he started kissing and making out with her. A woman who was barely conscious.

At this point, I decided to make this a rare DNF

What a great story! I couldn't put this down! I really thought I had this who-dun-it story all figured out, but the author threw me for a loop! I love it when my theories are proved wrong. This was a bit different that other romances I've read and I love it when I can think to myself that I haven't read a book quite like the one I just finished.

Grace is a lovable character. She's a spitfire! But I also love just how real she seems. She has good friends who are looking out for her when her ex fiance shows up *cough*scoundrel*cough* and is being mysterious, but not in Grace's favor. And Ren! What can I say about Ren other than I loved him and wanted to smack him upside the head at the same time! He's the dark knight that rides up to the rescue everytime so he's forgivable in his flaws.

This is my second Schroeder book and I really have to say I love her writing. Melissa has such a great imagination that she is able to bring to life between the pages. This is such a heartfelt romance that everyone should read!

I am someone who always loves a good romance between a warm, sexy and accident prone heroine with a bit of an aloof and controlled hero who finds his hard earned control shattered all around him. As I read Grace Under Pressure, I couldn't help but think to myself that I have read this earlier in my pre-review phase. Even if that were the case, I am really glad that I picked this up and enjoyed it, a story that left me wanting more of all the characters that cropped up as it unfolded.

33 year old Grace Michaels lives in the small town of Cannon, Texas and is a history professor at the local college. Accident-prone by nature, her first encounter with the town's new and sexy as hell Chief of Police Ren Morello happens with her ass up in the air stirring up Ren's amusement and his libido as well in the process.

Ren is a man who has closed and bolted the door on any sort of relationship with the opposite sex that requires his commitment ever since his divorce from the wife from hell. When Grace comes into the picture, even though his over-active libido begs him to bury himself deep within her, his emotions that are a bit more in control than his libido warn him to run the other way and never look back.

When Grace's home is ransacked and it is clear that her life is in danger, all protective instincts that Ren harbors deep inside comes out demanding that he keep Grace safe at any cost. Being at such close proximity to a woman whose mere existence befuddles his thinking cells plays havoc with the rigid control that Ren exerts on his baser emotions until it all explodes in his face in the most sinfuly delicious ways possible.

Neatly tying in with the main story is the story of Julia, Grace's best friend and that of her brother Gabriel that served as an equally interesting romantic interlude in this wickedly good romantic suspense of the erotic variety. Though the scenes of passion are erotic in nature, there is none of the overly kinky stuff taking place in the story. Grace Under Pressure is a hot little addition for your TBR pile if you love a steamy romantic suspense in a small town setting with all the antics that go along with small town life. Loved every single minute of this delectable story and I am definitely going to wade through Ms. Schroeder's back list and see what I can come up with to keep me entertained in the future.

Grace Michaels is being stalked. As a college professor and a practically non-exisitant love life, the break in at her office and home has turned her usually uneventful life upside down.
Ren Morello, the sexy new sheriff in town is just the knight and shining armor Grace needs. He is divorced, sexy and lucky for her, moved in next door in the house she currently rents out. But, Ren is skittish due to an unfaithful wife and a sticky divorce and has no intentions of getting emotionally involved with the Grace, unless it is just for a purely physical relationship.
I liked this book. I liked the secondary characters-Julie who is Grace's best friend and Gabriel-Grace's brother were an interesting pair that I was glad to see find there way to one another.
I gave this book 3 stars because I didn't think there was enough interaction between Grace and Ren. Yes, they are attracted to one another and obviously liked one another, there are some very funny moments in this book and overall is was a good read, but I was disappointed that they didn't spend enough time together. With the mystery of who is stalking and trying to kill Grace, in my opinion it took over the storyline too much. I felt cheated in a way. But, this is still worth reading, and I am glad I did.

Gave this book 4 stars, it was very good, loved the Who done it type of book, with a very sexy erotic twist; Love the idea that there were two best friends, a brother and a Chief. Wow that Chief Morello, took my breath away, when he took Grace and finally he made love to her without speaking a word until it was over. I can understand the Chief, in some way he was already married, his wife cheated on him and he did't want to be tied down again. But with Grace he couldn't deal the way he lust for her and he was scared of what will happened if he lose her at the end. Her parents were so comical, the way her mom was throwing sexual innuendos. Her brother Gabriel, finally has the woman that he loved over a decade. Congrats Melissa Schroeder, loved the book.

I give it to Mrs Schroeder. She did have an intersting idea but she couldn't keep focused on what she wanted to do. If this was supposed to be a steamy romance with a mistery touch she failed greatly. it was very watered down and there was sex but no chemistry between the characters.

I actually didn't want to read this book at all. I simply downloaded the wrong Grace Unter Pressure. Which I wanted was Grace Under Pressure (A Manor of Murder Mystery, #1) by July Hyzy. LOL

Wow this was confusing. The multiple perspective thing really threw me for a loop. There must’ve been 5 different POVs and none of them were announced like a traditional novel, so it was hard to decipher who was talking right away which broken my concentration multiple times. Gabriel, Grace, Julia, Mmc. Just a lot going on.
Also this book was part romance part weird suspense mystery that didn’t quite fit. The book just kind of ended and the epilogue didn’t really fit either
I did love the chemistry between the mmc and grace and the way he was protective over her, even if he was an ass in the beginning.
Not sure if I would recommend this one. I’m still trying to piece it all together. I think the author would’ve had more luck with just making a companion series for Gabriel and Julia instead of involving so many POVs in one book.

Schroeder's first published book, this one involves a (seemingly) conservative college professor, the handsome new sheriff in town and the mysterious accidents that keep happening to the admittedly clumsy professor.

There's also a romance between two people who should know better, a secondary hate-to-love romance, one set of parents in an RV, a college with some rather old fashioned attitudes and a big dog.

There are a few areas that could be expanded on, but it's pretty good for the author's maiden voyage.

*I listened to this book via the everand app

Grace is a professor at a local college. Grace is clumsy and known for it. She is also researching a prominent Texas family.

Grace lives across the street from her parents' home, which they rent out. The new police chief moves in across the street.

There are actually 2 love stories in this book, both Grace and her brother. The sex scenes were steamy but not overdone. I appreciate when a book has an epilogue so you know what happens after the HEA.

It was a sweet, fun rom-com! “Red” a Nick name given her by Ren because, the amount of red thick curly hair! She is a Professor & he is the Police Chief of a small town. Grace has come upon a diary about the roots of the town which, causes her to have a lot of accidents. She is prone to be very clumsy, falling down before the police chief! Melissa always writes a good story! I would like to recommend this book!

I normally don’t go for steamy romances, but I do like me some sweet romances! Grace and Ren are perfect for each other, and it was fun to see them develop and grow. Mystery is also so captivating! There were a fair share of minor grammatical errors, missed quotation marks, and so forth, but it didn’t deter from the story.

These two are so hot for each other, I have no idea why either of them thought that they could just have an affair and leave their hearts out of it.
Having Grace in danger because if a book she's researching just makes it harder for Ren to stay away.
Living in a small town has more excitement than either of them thought.
A great read.

This was a cute read, with a mystery to solve behind it all! Small town, check. Hot new sheriff in town, check. A relationship that was only to be about physical satisfaction, scoff, yeah that always works out well 😊 These two certainly clashed, but they also compliment, and they were an enjoyable couple to watch work things out <3

While the premise of the book was quite interesting, the execution was not really to my liking and it made me drop a star: there were some mistakes, sometimes it felt rushed and some things didn't add up.

I know she’s a best selling author, but this book was downright sophomoric. I think I could write better. The premise was cliche. But, more than that, the narration might have been the worst I’ve ever heard. I had to force myself to finish. Don’t even start.

Grace by name but not by nature hahaha yep a bit of a clutz. A professor who is researching a family history for a book. She has a ex who betrayed both the relationship and profession. Ren is the new sheriff in town. Painful  past relationship has put him off serious relationships.
These two meet and and it's one drama after funny and frustrating drama. Grace is a little insecure about herself and Ren doesn't want to have serious feelings. The confrontations between these to are funny and hot. When Grace's safety is threatened Ren is ready to stick to Grace's ass..for her safety ;)
I love some of the other characters in this but my favourite are Julia and Gabriel. Best friend and brother to Grace. They both have a little chemistry going on between them. But Julia has a painful past and Gabriel doesn't know about it and has a bad impression of her. A couple I really liked and got frustrated with.
Such a frustratingly good book that I got so hooked into. I wasn't sure who the stalker was going to be until the end so it kept me on my toes with that one. Ren, Ren I wanted to slap and kiss at the same time. Grace is such a lovely woman and so happy when she got all she wanted. Brill book.
