Rate this book
A maligned hacker. A Mossad agent. A mutual enemy.

No longer of any use to the governments who once coveted his cybercriminal mind, disgraced hacker Kelvin Gallagher finds himself languishing in Prague while waiting for his enemies to find him and end his sufferings. Along comes a Mossad agent, once a friend, but now determined to take him home in a body bag…

Zero Day is book 2 in USA Today bestselling author Jan Thompson’s Binary Hackers series of inspirational near-future cyberthrillers combining technothriller and romance. If you’re looking for clean suspense without compromising the Christian faith, these books are for you.

What is happening with a hacker who straddles the fence between desiring to do what is right while doing all the wrong things? While Zero Sum (book 1) explores Cayson Yang’s problems with cybernetic implants, Zero Day (book 2) takes us behind the scenes to the other side, to the world of people with nefarious intention and to the moral battles in their minds.
We met Kelvin in the first pages of Zero Sum, shortly before he was whisked away to parts unknown. In Zero Day, we pick up his story some months afterwards.
The prisoner awaits…Down and out and waiting to die, mercenary hacker Kelvin Gallagher regrets betraying his homeland. Rejected by everyone, Kelvin has no choice but dig deeper into the dark hole into which he has fallen.

He remembers his ex-employers at Binary Systems, Inc., who have given him a job when nobody else dared. Are Cayson Yang and Leland Yang-Joule more moral than he is? He thinks not. Aren’t they all working for money?

Yeah, life is worth more than money. Kelvin knows that, but it’s too late. Way too late as he sits in a rat-infested rundown building in Old Prague, fearful and in anguish.
The executioner comes…As an act of revenge, former Mossad agent Yona Epstein tracks down the American traitor who led her mentor to the slaughterhouse. It makes Yona angry that Kelvin used to be a friend, back when they worked together in a project.
When Yona uncovers Kelvin’s hideout in Europe, she realizes she isn’t the only one who wants Kelvin dead. That makes her pause.
To kill or not to kill…When Kelvin explains his version of the cybercrime nightmare of his own making, several events don’t match up with what Yona has been told by her associates.

Is Kelvin innocent after all? Should Yona delay the execution until she finds out what is going on? Or proceed based on the information she already has? She trusts her sources, doesn’t she?

Before Yona can decide on how to deal with Kelvin, enemies close in as their past catches up to them.

I received a free copy of the Atlanta, Georgia-based novel Zero Day: Virtual Networks... A Near-Future Technothriller with Inspirational Romance (Binary Hackers Book 2) by Jan Thompson and this review was given freely.

For the most part, this was an action-packed and suspenseful story of retribution and redemption set primarily in the Czech Republic. It contains a few suspenseful twists, and a relationship that spans years and countries, but the ending felt anticlimactic.
This sequel features the abandoned former Binary Systems’ system analysis American hacker Kelvin Gallagher, whose desperation leads to him working with Aspasia resulting in the formation of MedusaNet which sets off a series of events leading to Cayson’s Kill Switch dilemma, Kelvin’s being captured by multiple intelligence and military entities, and his recapture to help shutdown Ulysses‘ successor to the MedusaNet. Former Marine turned Israeli Mossad agent; Yona Epstein abandons her dream career to assassinate her former acquaintance only to learn she is a pawn in a plan that could end their lives.

I'm really enjoying this series. Kelvin worked with Binary computer group but because of his mother's cancer he took a deal from the bad guys so his mom could have an awesome place to live as she was dying. Then he realized what he had done and tried to get out of it, but that wasn't going to happen and he was taken to Czechoslovakia and left there to die, and that was what he was expecting, to die in an abandoned apartment building, with a stray cat as his only friend. But it wasn't to be and he was rescued, then he was kidnapped again, then he was rescued again... Lots of action and redemption!

This is a clean strongly Christian read.

Jan Thompson’s book Zero Day:
Yona and Kelvin’s story will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens with them. Kelvin has been hiding in a rat infested building for years while Yona and several other people are trying to find him. When Yona finds him both of them and their friends are in danger. You will feel God working throughout this wonderful book. I had the honor to review this book for the author for a honest review. I would give this book a higher rating than a five star review if I could.

Such a tangled web, you can run but you can't hide...not for long anyway. In this hacker world, who can you trust. It's so easy to get caught up and quickly swept away, I love that he accepts the consequences of his wrong doing and rekindles his trust and faith in the right way. Full of action, very suspenseful and emotionally engaging with a sweet blooming romance. I was provided a free copy without obligation and am voluntarily reviewing.

Kelvin made a lot of mistakes that he regretted. Although he asked for repentance, he still had to face the consequences. When Yona finds him, their lives and the lives of their friends are in danger. This story not only is suspenseful but grace and forgiveness are shown throughout the story too.

sweet love story with action

Fun read; sweet love story with international action. Not a lot of character development but nevertheless a good story to read when you need something light and fast paced.

This was a little confusing for me. I felt sorry for Kevin when he is captured, left in a cell until people want him to help them. There are lots of things going on inside this book.

I liked this romantic suspense about Kelvin and Yona. I recommend this book for those who enjoy stories about technical things involving hackers where agencies like the CIA are involved. The characters are likeable and the suspense keeps you reading. I received a free copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
