A group of friends return to their place of childhood legend and roam the grounds of an abandoned hospital in the woods of Deptford County. One is drawn to a sealed iron door on the top-most floor of the facility.
I really enjoyed the ideas and characters in this book, however I wish it had expanded a bit more on the hospital and with the characters. Otherwise I loved it :-)
Goodreads doesn't have a star rating for "I'm totally confused", so I chose 3 stars instead. If anyone can explain what happened here I'd love to know.
One of the things I really enjoyed about In the House of Fletcher, was the fact that it almost felt like two stories. You have the first visit, the characters still very young and their initial exploration, and then the second, the characters now grown up, and allowing you to see overall changes in their personalities and decision making. The description was captivating, I felt like I could picture things perfectly and still stay engaged in the story. It didn't feel like one of those books were over-description takes away the entire flow of the story and dialog. I loved the plot, and actually I do feel this is one that always deserves a re-read. You begin to really understand the course of events, and you notice the little things that you may have missed before. This is well worth the read!
This was an intriguing short story. Well written, a tad creepy with a certain air of mystery, Part 1 had me going right until the end when the three strangers appeared. Then it sort of just devolved into something a bit surreal that seemed to be badly ended. Part 2 had me scratching my head - I'm completely confused even after reading the piece twice. If anyone can explain this to me feel free to leave a comment!
In the House of Fletcher has an engaging although somewhat surreal plot. It could benefit from a bit of editing but it was overall very enjoyable. My only real complaint is that it felt like the introduction to a bigger story so I was left wanting more once I was done.
