I will keep this review short since I feel that I already said everything I had to say about this series in my reviews of the previous books...
This one was definitely better than book 5... And I assume there will be a 7th book with this ending?
The intrigue was more complex and developed than in the previous books, and while I had my suspicions about the culprit, I still was not sure until the end. The focus is more on the serial killer, their sick game, and the investigation to find them, than on the supernatural politics, which was also a nice change of pace and vibe, because while I enjoy politics in books, it was starting to get a little repetitive.
Once again though, I am a little disappointed by the romance development in this series. We see that Emma and Lukas have a strong relationship and that they are serious, it still seems as thgouh every important development happened off page or in between the books. So while I enjoy their moments together and their steady support for each other, I would have liked to witness more of the building of this bond, like what we saw in the first two books.
I also want to congratulate Emma for dying only once in this book, which is an improvement from the previous books. 😅

Helen Harper returns with a SOLID story in her Firebrand series.
I say solid because from the moment the first murder happens, until the answer of who the culprit is, the investigation is moving seemlessly, in what I can say a good procedural-way. The twists and red herrings are great. Sure, there's this annoying Senior Investigating Officer, who seems to only want to hog the spotlight... BUT, he also contributes to the case in the end.
AND, Emma only died ONCE 😅
I was also pretty intrigued with the appearance of a Cassandra, and how they work in this universe... at the same time, it's the reason why I couldn't rate this higher yet.

I'd expected 'A Killer's Kiss' to be a quick comfort read, carrying on a series that I'd consumed almost in a single gulp last summer when the series gave me a welcome escape from the stress of the COVID restrictions. It surprised me - in a good way - by turning out to be a good Serial Killer mystery.
Helen Harper did a lot of world-building in the first five books, explaining the composition and politics of the supernatural world that lives out in the open, albeit under significant restrictions, in this alternative modern-day London, and establishing DC Emma Bellamy of the MET's Supernatural Squad as a supernatural with an unusual ability - when she is killed, she returns to life in a burst of flames with her body uninjured, twelve hours later.
In the previous books, the crimes Emma has investigated have been relatively small scale and have served as much to reveal more about the supernatural world and to develop Emma's powers and personality as to provide a mystery.
'A Killer's Kiss' is quite different. The emphasis here is on finding a serial killer who is targeting supernaturals.
I thought it was well done. The plot was twisty enough to keep me guessing. The pacing was tense enough to keep me turning the pages and the denouement caught me by surprise without cheating. I liked that it didn't fall into the common trap of making the killer the centre of the novel. Most of the focus was on the victims and on trying to prevent the next kill.
I enjoyed the book and I hope the series continues in this direction.

Love this series and thoroughly enjoyed this book! It really is a fabulous mystery series - just set amongst humans AND supernaturals. I was extra impressed that, even though I guessed the villain early on, the red herrings and twists were so well done that they totally convinced me I was wrong! Now that is great writing, right there, folks!
I am really disappointed in Lukas’s character, however. He has been relegated to a mere blip on the page - and in the stories. It seems such a shame to have one who was initially a giant force (literally the head, strength and powerhouse of the vampires) become such a weak and inconsequential character. He now exists only to give Ella a kiss now and then. *sigh*. But everything else in this story was all kinds of Harper fun and high-jinx!

Oh this book, this story this author! I read the other books in one go and I was mega fixated and loved them all profundly. But this one only came out months after I read the others, I was no longer mega fixated in the story but I had to read it too.
And well it’s a good follow up, it’s a new story and I do like my serialkillers stories.
So even if I wasn’t as invested in the story like in the previous ones it’s still has a great story. Making it a 5 star because of how good the writing is and even the case they work on. Just take in consideration that after 5 books this one is not the most exciting one but a great slow burn follow up.
But then that cliffhanger! Why?! I love this story but come on don’t do this to meee.
Well now I am looking forward for the next one. #7 here we go again. 2023 here we go!

Love this author, Slouch Witch is an absolute favourite, but I think this series may have run it's course.
This was pure whodunnit murder-mystery, there was no banter at all and certainly no romance - a main reason I pick up HH books. The first couple in this Firebrand series were great, but now we are on to solving crimes and there is no relationship growth or details.

Cette série d'Helen Harper est sans aucun doute ma préféré. Elle regroupe vraiment tous les éléments qui font qu'on est sur une saga prenante, avec de l'humour, du mystère, des intrigues prenantes et une romance slow-burn qui fait son bout de chemin et est la base d'une relation saine et basée sur la confiance et la communication. Cet avant dernier tome, je l'attendais donc avec beaucoup d'impatience et je suis plus que satisfaite de ma lecture avec l'envie d'être déjà en septembre pour la conclusion.
Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas encore, Emma Bellamy est une inspectrice de police un peu particulière qui a rejoint la Brigade Para. En gros, ceux chargés de gérer les problèmes surnaturels. En plus d'être une femme, Emma va devoir s'imposer et se faire respecter tout en gardant cette pointe d'humour que manie si bien l'autrice. Chaque tome se concentre sur une enquête, tout en ayant ce fil conducteur de la vie d'Emma et de ceux qui gravitent autour d'elle. Et pour ne rien gâcher, une romance slow-burn comme on les aime avec un seigneur Vampire, qui évolue de tomes en tomes pour notre plus grand plaisir.
Maintenant parlons de ce tome 6. Amis lecteurs, attention si vous allez plus loin à partir d'ici, les spoilers sont inévitables.
Le congrès très médiatisé sur les Paras a eu certes des avantages, notamment en termes de compréhensions de chacun sur les autres (humains/paras) mais aussi quelques désagréments. Depuis, Emma est beaucoup sollicité pour des enquêtes, pas toujours de l'ordre du Para. Et voilà qu'une des affaires prend d'énormes proportions. Le tueur, méticuleux s'attaque non seulement aux humains, mais aussi aux vampires et aux pixies. Pire encore, il semble plaisir à faire tourner tout le monde en bourrique dans son jeu malsain. Une course contre la montre et une rencontre avec une Cassandre aux prédictions encore plus effrayante débute.
Clairement, ce tome c'est un mystère haletant. Ma curiosité a été à son maximum mais j'ai résisté à l'idée d'aller jeter un coup d'œil sur les dernières pages pour découvrir qui était derrière tout ça. Autant vous dire que je me suis faite balader par l'autrice comme jamais et n'avais pas vu venir l'identité de celui qui sévit. Une enquête qui tient donc en haleine du début à la fin et nous embarque totalement avec les personnages.
Des personnages que j'aime toujours autant. Clairement, c'est le point fort de cette autrice, avoir des personnages à la fois attachants, drôles et auxquels on peut s'identifier. Emma en est l'exemple même. Dans ce tome, elle n'est pas à la tête de l'enquête mais ne lâchera rien. J'aime toujours son côté intrépide, mais réfléchis à la fois. Et elle pourra compter sur l'équipe de la Brigade, mais aussi les enquêteurs sur l'affaire. Mais ce qui sera toujours aussi marquant c'est le soutien sans faille de Lukas, son petit-ami/Seigneur vampire.
Je le dis et je le répète, la romance de cette série est aux petits oignons. Après un slow-burn sur plusieurs tomes, il est hyper satisfaisant de voir le couple soudé. Ils sont présents là pour l'autre, sans se brider. Ils communiquent et se disent les choses et ça, c'est franchement bien ! Exit les embrouilles qu'on voit souvent, ils leur arrivent de ne pas être d'accord mais ils ne laissent pas les choses s'envenimer avec une relation saine. Et ici, j'ai trouvé que c'était d'autant plus beau à voir vu que Lukas va laisser voir une autre facette de lui, une part de fragilité qui ne le rendra que plus attachant.
En conclusion, un tome riche en rebondissement avec une enquête très prenante. Une romance qui franchi une nouvelle étape et une fin qui donne envie de se jeter sur la conclusion prévue en septembre prochain. Que vous dire de plus si ce n'est qu'Helen Harper est une valeur sûre pour moi et qu'elle le démontre une fois encore ici avec un tome clairement à la hauteur.

DC Emma Bellamy is called in to review a murder which may have a supernatural element by the Hackney Police, although the police think it is a run-of-the-mill psychopath who murdered a human then painted the floor with his blood. Then a second body is found, a goblin, with obvious links to the first murder. Yet the modus operandi seems different. Could Emma be looking for two killers working together?
Soon Emma is dealing with a spree of killings, juggling a press-loving Superintendent, angry werewolves, and frightened dentists. And there's a Cassandra giving important but cryptic clues.
A great story in a great series.

I absolutely love this series, so this new book was eagerly awaited and boy it did not disappoint!
After a couple of seemingly unrelated murders occur in London, DC Emma Bellamy is called in by the Met Police to help out when one of the victims is a supe. The murders are so very different from each other in all aspects except one - the killer left a kiss behind on the victims. Nothing else is related, no one can find any links between them and it is up to Emma and the rest of the team to work out what on earth is going on before any other murders can take place.
At the same time, Emma has to deal with a devastated werewolf whose ex wife has died. He claims it was murder, but so far there is no evidence to indicate this, but he is adamant and will listen to no one but Emma. Boy does she have her work cut out for her. If only the man in charge of the murder investigation was a bit more pleasant it might help!
I love Emma - she is a great character and always trusts her gut instinct, which often turns out to be right. Her relationship with Lukas worked really well in this one and made for a great team as well.
I totally loved the murder story arc - it was a very ingenious idea, despite how gruesome it was. I did think the perpetrator was who it ended up being early on as he just seemed to be SO very helpful, but then there were times when he didn't seem to have any obvious stakes in the so-called game!
This series is a great read and highly recommended. Although you could probably jump straight in at this book, I would recommend that you start from the very beginning - you won't be disappointed at all!

I'm sitting here wondering how Lukas will react because Emma might have accidentally rejected his proposal. Also, does this mean her phoenix powers are gone?

Emma gets called across London to give Supe Squads opinion of a murder. Everyone believes there is no supe involvement and it's just your run-of-the-mill psychopath who painted the floor with the victims blood. Until the next victim turns out to be a goblin. The m.o is completely different from the first murder, but there is one obvious link. Now Emma is tied to the case; supes are in danger, not just humans. She leaves Supe Squad dealing with the seemingly natural death of an elderly pixie, but one her loved one won't believe, while she takes on her biggest case yet. She must navigate a DCI who can make some weird, and questionable, choices, a Cassandra who keeps supplying cryptic clues and emotions running high in order to get to the bottom of these killings.
Did anybody else scream when they finished this book? I did. More than once.
It was going to be bad enough that I knew this was the last book currently available (and I dragged it out as long as possible as a result), but a semi-cliffhanger? Are you kidding me?!
This is what you call being cruel to your readers.
I need the next one, now .
And I swear, if the next doesn't pick up right where this finished, I'm going to cry.
Okay, okay, mini rant over, aside from the ending (the epilogue really) I thoroughly enjoyed this book like the rest of the series. This is the biggest case Emma has worked on and it shows. The stakes are high; everybody is racing against the clock to try and stop the next murder from happening.
I loved the introduction of a Cassandra; a supe who can see the future, but only in cryptic fragments which they can't control. It added another layer of suspense and mystery as the team try and decipher her clues each time before it's too late.
Lukas, as always, was great. You got to see a different side of him in this book; the one where he isn't in control, and he doesn't know how to cope with that. He plays his role in the investigation, and so do the werewolves. Without their aid, who knows how it would have turned out.
I just have to stick one of my favourite Lukas moments in here:
Despite loving the development, the mystery and the new characters in this book, I do have one little problem (aside from the ending, I mean). That's the injuries Emma obtains during a chase. Apparently she fractured her ankle and dislocated her shoulder. Having fractured my elbow in July of this year, I know how painful that is. And I wasn't trying to run after a supe on the injury. Also, if you dislocate your shoulder, your arm is all but useless. There was no mention of it hanging limply by her side, in fact she uses it to help steady her crossbow. I know she is the Phoenix and stronger than most supes, let alone humans, but come on Harper, you could have picked some more realistic injuries to fit the circumstances.
Aside from that small gripe, I loved the book as much as the others. It was painful tearing myself away every night but worth it in the long run for I made the magic last longer and delayed the ending. The ending I am choosing not to talk about. I need answers . But there is no book 7 yet. So I shall go scream some more, crawl into a hole, and wonder what I should do now; aside from frantically speculating all the ways that end scene can progress.

It was going to be bad enough that I knew this was the last book currently available (and I dragged it out as long as possible as a result), but a semi-cliffhanger? Are you kidding me?!
This is what you call being cruel to your readers.
I need the next one, now .
And I swear, if the next doesn't pick up right where this finished, I'm going to cry.
Okay, okay, mini rant over, aside from the ending (the epilogue really) I thoroughly enjoyed this book like the rest of the series. This is the biggest case Emma has worked on and it shows. The stakes are high; everybody is racing against the clock to try and stop the next murder from happening.
I loved the introduction of a Cassandra; a supe who can see the future, but only in cryptic fragments which they can't control. It added another layer of suspense and mystery as the team try and decipher her clues each time before it's too late.
Lukas, as always, was great. You got to see a different side of him in this book; the one where he isn't in control, and he doesn't know how to cope with that. He plays his role in the investigation, and so do the werewolves. Without their aid, who knows how it would have turned out.
I just have to stick one of my favourite Lukas moments in here:
Lukas was at the end of the bar, surrounded by several scantily clad women. As far as I could tell, they were enjoying his company as much as he was enjoying theirs. I grined and ordered a drink from the bartender before heading up to the mezzanine level. Once there, I plonked myself down on Lukas's golden throne.
I started to count. It took him eight seconds.
‘You're sitting in my chair, D'Artagnan,’ he murmered.
‘You weren't using it. In fact, you looked rather busy.’
‘Jealous?’
Maybe a little. ‘Nope.’
‘Liar.’ He leaned down and gave me a long, lingering kiss. My stomach flip-flopped. ‘There,’ he said. ‘That will remove any doubt that I'm spoken for.’
Despite loving the development, the mystery and the new characters in this book, I do have one little problem (aside from the ending, I mean). That's the injuries Emma obtains during a chase. Apparently she fractured her ankle and dislocated her shoulder. Having fractured my elbow in July of this year, I know how painful that is. And I wasn't trying to run after a supe on the injury. Also, if you dislocate your shoulder, your arm is all but useless. There was no mention of it hanging limply by her side, in fact she uses it to help steady her crossbow. I know she is the Phoenix and stronger than most supes, let alone humans, but come on Harper, you could have picked some more realistic injuries to fit the circumstances.
Aside from that small gripe, I loved the book as much as the others. It was painful tearing myself away every night but worth it in the long run for I made the magic last longer and delayed the ending. The ending I am choosing not to talk about. I need answers . But there is no book 7 yet. So I shall go scream some more, crawl into a hole, and wonder what I should do now; aside from frantically speculating all the ways that end scene can progress.

Emma Bellamy is forced to work with the DC Murray of the Met Police. Even though Lucas and Emma are very much together in this book, there is little romance. It's very much a thriller with a serial killer (or two) killing as part of their elaborate game. An interesting and gory episode in this series, with twists and turns that include warnings from Lucas's least favorite supe, the Cassandra. It's a compelling read and I'm glad book 7 is readily available because we have a cliffhanger ending.

Band 6 war wieder wesentlich besser und actiongeladener als sein Vorgänger!
Emma muss mit der menschlichen Polizei zusammenarbeiten, um einen Serienmörder zu fassen, der ein grausames Spiel treibt. Für mich war der Täter zwar recht rasch klar, spannend und rasant war es dennoch und ich habe die Geschichte wieder sehr geliebt!

Ich brauche mehr!
Auch wenn dieser Teil etwas schwächer war als ich es gewohnt bin, liebe ich alles daran. Die
Beziehung zwischen Emma und Lucas wird von Buch zu Buch tiefer und intensiver, das ist
sehr schön zu lesen. Auch Emmas Expertise wächst und wächst.
Der Fall selbst ist für mich lange undurchsichtig gewesen und auch sehr verwirrend.
Nichtsdestotrotz ist das Worldbuilding nach wie vor der Hammer. Ich liebe es absolut!

I’m a real fan of this series and have enjoyed all the books so far, but I will admit this one felt a little weaker than previous installments. I think it’s because I believe this series is at its best when it focuses on Emma and her evolution, and this book was more about a serial killer whodunit than the core characters. Still, the bit of a cliffhanger ending has me excited for what will happen next with Emma and I can’t wait to read the next installment.

This series feels like coming home (I think I wrote the exact same thing about the previous book in this series but i sincerely mean it). This became such a comfort read for me, it is entertaining, we got a cute relationship to root for, we have fun urban fantasy vibes with lots of different magical "creatures" (I can't fit of a different word i'm sorry) and we get to solve crimes with our main character - a strong, pretty cool woman. I really like it!

This is the sixth book in the series and we’re back with two twisted psychopath killers who are in a murder competition with each other, which is interesting and disturbing to say the least. Emma has been tasked with catching this duo with fellow detective Colquhoun. The lead detective, Murray, in this one was almost as bad as Collier, but in the opposite direction. He's a spotlight hog who uses the supes to get ahead. He's smart, but not smart enough to make up for his bad attitude. Despite his flaws, he did end up helping with the case, so I'll cut him some slack. The real shining star in this department is Colquhoun. She's a fantastic detective and will be Emma's friend in the end. Emma, Laura and Colquhoun should go out on a night out. They more than deserve some girl time.
But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows for Emma. After being attacked by werewolf Robert, who is deeply grieving the loss of the love of his life, she is tasked to help elsewhere while DC Owen Grace deals with the werewolves. Although Owen seems to be doing a better job in this book than he did in previous books, I'm still not sold on him being the right man for the main supe detective. However, it seems like he's here for the long haul, so I have to stop glowering anytime he comes onto the page. Liza and Owen seem to be seeing each other too and have cute nicknames for each other, which I knew was coming.
The side plot with the wolves wasn't necessarily needed, but it was good for Owen to get more involved with them rather than expecting Emma to always have his back. It will be interesting to see how justice works for Robert after what he’s done. It’s a direct complication with Emma as a witness. It wouldn’t be easy to sweep under the rug, despite what the wolves say about supe justice. It might be the squad’s place to deal with it since what happened involved a human.
We’re also introduced to a new supe called Cassandras where they are able to see things in the future. Cassandras can’t control what comes out of their mouths or what they see, which often leads to disarray. I really enjoyed this twist, Zara seems like such a cool character, although it was weird to see Lukas act so prejudiced against her kind with him being a lord vampire. It goes to show even supes can discriminate when they want to.
As for the romance side of things, it appears as if lukas and Emma are living together. Again, another huge thing we missed out on actually happening. Honestly, I’m not sold on them at this point and I’m not sure I will be. I like him enough as an individual character, but I’m not here for the romance anymore. I’m here for the investigation and murder side. Which is sad because I had high expectations.
Although the ending of this one actually had me intrigued—will this change things between them? Not the proposal. We figured that was coming after the tears of blood necklace, but the Cassandras thing he wouldn’t like it, so maybe we will get some actual development on the page to make up for the lack of it in the last book. I don’t know, I’m wishful thinking at this point. The cliffhanger does have me anticipating the next book. I can’t wait to dive in, despite my lack of excitement for the romance. I’m here for everything else!

Emma Bellamy hat wieder neue Fälle auf dem Tisch und wird dafür in das Londoner Bezirk Hackney berufen. Dort soll sie aushelfen, weil es sich scheinbar um ein Verbrechen mit übernatürlichem Ursprung handelt. Ich mag es, dass Emma ihre Arbeit immer so gewissenhaft ausführt. Egal, was für grausame Funde sie macht. Nachdem sie sich den Tatort angesehen und darüber nachgedacht hat, schließt sie einen übernatürlichen Ursprung aus. Doch kurz darauf gibt es einen weiteren Mord. Die Fälle haben Gemeinsamkeiten, aber unterscheiden sich doch sehr stark vom Vorgehen. Das macht natürlich sehr neugierig.
Emma nimmt also weitere Ermittlungen auf. Doch sie ist nicht Ermittlungsleiterin, das ist DC Murray, der ihr das Leben recht schwer macht und sie in den Telefondienst schickt. Diese Stelle war ehrlich gesagt ein bisschen zäh. Aber auch damit ging die Story voran. Denn wie in jedem Band gibt es immer verschiedenste neue Hinweise, denen Emma nachgehen kann. Nicht nur das, hier geht es nicht um einen Fall. Denn wer auch immer hinter den Morden steckt, bleibt nicht untätig und es folgen weitere Morde, die mehr Fragen aufwerfen. Sie müssen das aufhalten, die Zeit drängt. Dabei tauchen neue Kreaturen auf, die die ganze Ermittlung unterstützen. Doch nicht jeder Hinweis hilft weiter und so landet das Team oft genug in einer Sackgasse, was entsprechend authentisch wirkt. Ich war richtig gefesselt und habe wieder viel mitgerätselt. Immerhin eine Sache habe ich vorausgeahnt. Dafür alle anderen Wendungen überhaupt nicht.
Emma Bellamy ist ein super sympathischer Charakter, der die Arbeit sehr gewissenhaft und professionell ausführt. Ich kann mir keine bessere Protagonistin für die Reihe vorstellen. Auch die ganzen übernatürlichen Wesen finde ich sehr interessant. Denn natürlich spielen auch wieder die Vampire und die Werwolf-Clane eine große Rolle. Nicht nur hilft ihr Freund Lukas ihr bei den Ermittlungen, auch nimmt sie Hilfe von den Werwölfen in Anspruch. Jeder hat halt so seine Fähigkeiten, die man gut einsetzen kann. Fand ich richtig schön. Besonders nach dem letzten Band.

Wir sind gleich mitten im Geschehen und erleben mit, wie Detective Constable Emma Bellamy in eine grausige Mordserie ermitteln muss, die nicht nur die Menschen, sondern alle Übernatürlichen in große Gefahr bringt. Denn niemand weiß, welches Spiel die Person hinter der Tat wirklich spielt.
Emma ist eine tolle Protagonistin, die ich von Anfang an ins Herz geschlossen habe. Man merkt ihr an, wie gut ihr die Liebe zu Lord Lukas Horvath tut und wie viel sich die beiden bedeuten. Zudem zeigt sich immer wieder, wie wichtig ihr die anderen Übernatürlichen und ihre Belange sind, ebenso welchen Stellenwert Emma bei diesen inzwischen eingenommen hat. Mir hat ihre freche Art sehr gefallen, mit der sie mich viele Male zum Schmunzeln gebracht hat. Zudem mochte ich besonders ihr Einfühlungsvermögen und Verständnis Robert Sullivan gegenüber, der einen schweren Verlust erlitten hat. Da zeigt sich, was für ein großes Herz Emma hat. Zudem mochte ich ihre Unvoreingenommenheit.

Zudem gab es einige Wendungen, mit denen ich nicht gerechnet hätte, die die Spannung aber noch mal angeheizt haben.
Den Kopf habe ich immer wieder über Detective Chief Inspector Donald Murray geschüttelt. Nicht nur, dass er Emma die Ermittlungen unnötig schwer macht, wusste ich einfach nicht, was ich von ihm halten sollte. Er scheint sehr auf seinen Vorteil bedacht zu sein, vor den Medien immer gut dastehen zu wollen, aber ein guter Ermittler ist er dennoch nicht. Zudem war ich mir zwischendurch nicht sicher, ob er nicht etwas mit den Morden zu tun hat. Zugetraut hätte ich es ihm durchaus.
Fazit:

„Magic Inferno“ von Helen Harper ist der sechste Band ihrer übersinnlichen Firebrand Reihe um die Londoner Police Ermittlerin Emma Bellamy.
Emma ist zwar speziell für übersinnliche Ermittlungen zuständig, aber das zuständige Revier für Hackney fordert bei einem besonders blutigen Mordfall ihre Expertise an. Zunächst scheint alles auf einen brutalen, aber völlig menschlichen Killer hinzudeuten. Doch dann taucht kurze Zeit später eine zweite Leiche auf, die eindeutig in das Resort von Emma fällt, und die deutlichen Parallelen zum ersten Mordfall aufweist. Wie es scheint, treibt ein perfider Serienkiller sein Unwesen, der sowohl menschliche als auch magische Opfer ins Visier genommen hat. Emma ermittelt in alle Richtungen, aber der oder die Killer starten einen grausamen Wettlauf gegen die Zeit.

Sie hat sich mit ihrer Existenz als Phoenix abgefunden und nutzt ihre besonderen Möglichkeiten auch beruflich im Supernatural Squad. Ihre Liebe zum düsteren Vampir Lord Horvath scheint auch gefestigt und beide leben glücklich zusammen. Doch man sollte dem Frieden nicht allzu lange trauen.
Der mitreißende und humorvolle Schreibstil macht Spaß und wie wir es bereits kennen, wird die gesamte Handlung aus Emmas Perspektive erzählt. Sie steht als Heldin schließlich im Mittelpunkt und bestreitet ihre Kämpfe zum Leidwesen ihres Vampir Lords meistens allein.
Der neue mysteriöse Mordfall ist sehr spannend konstruiert und voller überraschender Twists. Mit vielen Wendungen hätte ich gar nicht gerechnet und so darf man auf jeden Fall bis zum Ende miträtseln.
Die übernatürliche Gemeinschaft spielt natürlich auch eine große Rolle und ein neues geheimnisvolles Geschöpf bereichert die Bildfläche. Am Schluss wartet ein mehr oder weniger böser Cliffhanger, der die Wartezeit auf den finalen siebten Band zur Qual macht.

Emma ist zwar speziell für übersinnliche Ermittlungen zuständig, aber das zuständige Revier für Hackney fordert bei einem besonders blutigen Mordfall ihre Expertise an. Zunächst scheint alles auf einen brutalen, aber völlig menschlichen Killer hinzudeuten. Doch dann taucht kurze Zeit später eine zweite Leiche auf, die eindeutig in das Resort von Emma fällt, und die deutlichen Parallelen zum ersten Mordfall aufweist. Wie es scheint, treibt ein perfider Serienkiller sein Unwesen, der sowohl menschliche als auch magische Opfer ins Visier genommen hat. Emma ermittelt in alle Richtungen, aber der oder die Killer starten einen grausamen Wettlauf gegen die Zeit.

Achtung mögliche Spoiler, da Band 6 der Firebrand-Reihe
Mysteriöse Mordfälle
Der Schreibstil ist flüssig, spannend und leicht zu verstehen. In diesem Band geht Emma wieder wie gewohnt ihren Ermittlertätigkeiten beim Subsquad weiter nach. Der Plottverlauf ist spannend und bringt die eine oder andere Überraschung mit sich. Es ist nicht alles vorhersehbar.
Ich wurde gut unterhalten und habe fleißig geraten, wer hinter den Morden stecken könnte.
Mir hat besonders die Entwicklung des Subplotts (der Liebesgeschichte) zwischen Emma und Lukas gefallen. Es gab innerhalb der letzten Bände bereits einige Entwicklungen, doch ich bin wirklich happy wie weit die beiden es bereits geschafft haben.
Fazit:
Eine gute Geschichte für zwischendurch mit spannenden Momenten und überraschenden Wendungen.

Magic Inferno" von Helen Harper hat mich mal wieder völlig in seinen Bann gezogen. Weißt du, wie es ist, wenn du ein Buch liest und das Gefühl hast, du könntest in einer anderen Welt versinken? Genau so ging es mir mit diesem Buch. Was ich besonders faszinierend fand, war der Krimi-Aspekt der Geschichte. Klar, Emma und die anderen übernatürlichen Figuren sind wieder mit von der Partie, aber die Mordermittlungen standen diesmal mehr im Vordergrund. Es war fast wie ein klassischer Kriminalroman mit einem Hauch von Magie.
Ich muss zugeben, dass die Mischung aus Spannung und Romantik genau mein Ding ist. Und obwohl es eine Weile dauerte, bis die übernatürlichen Elemente und die Magie richtig Fahrt aufnahmen, hat die altbewährte Polizeiarbeit zu Beginn eine solide Basis gelegt, die mich wirklich gefesselt hat. Kennst du das, wenn du einfach nicht aufhören kannst zu lesen, weil du wissen musst, wie es weitergeht? So ging es mir hier.
Ich hoffe inständig, dass das Finale übersetzt wird, denn es gab einige Andeutungen, die meine Neugier geweckt haben. Es ist schwer, nicht zu viel zu verraten, aber ich kann nur sagen, dass es wieder großartig und unglaublich unterhaltsam war. Ich bin ein großer Fan dieser Reihe und ihrer Charaktere. Sie sind so lebendig und echt, dass ich manchmal das Gefühl habe, sie könnten jeden Moment aus den Seiten herauslaufen. Und ehrlich gesagt, wäre ich gar nicht so überrascht, wenn das wirklich passieren würde. Wer braucht schon die Realität, wenn man solch fantastische Geschichten hat, oder?
