When Dr. Mark Baker and Nurse Kelly Atkinson are held at the mercy of a dangerous gunman, the lives of every emergency room patient are at stake. At the end of the evening three men are dead. One of them is a police officer who couldn't be saved despite Mark's best efforts. The other two are members of the feared Zeta drug cartel.

Though the standoff is over, the killing is not, because when the drug cartel loses its members, revenge is not far behind. Facing an adversary whose desires are dark and efforts are ruthless, Mark finds himself under suspicion as a killer, yet still a potential victim. When he turns to his high school sweetheart, attorney Gwen Woodruff, for help, Kelly helplessly looks on, as she hides her own feelings for the good doctor.

At the height of the conflict, three questions remain: Who is the shooter? Who will the next victim be? And can Mark prove his innocence before the gun turns on him?

I love suspenseful medical dramas so I was eager to read "Fatal Trauma" by Richard L. Mabry MD.
I enjoyed the context of the story and Dr. Mabry's medical expertise shines through. The spiritual threads seemed to overshadow the underlying story and as a result I did not feel a connection to the main characters.
Although "Fatal Trauma" didn't deliver the edge of your seat suspense I so enjoy, it did deliver a satisfying story.

Whew!!! This story feels as if it were ripped from the headlines of todays newspaper. So real.
I think these types of stories are really scary. They get under your skin and touch a nerve…definitely what Fatal Trauma did for me.

We think of hospitals as places of safety and healing…not the setting for a terrifying experience like this.

As I’m reading….I’m right there, experiencing every heart stopping moment.

Mabry knows his stuff! And he knows how to keep me on the edge of my seat- I love it!

I won’t spoil it for you, but if you love medical thrillers or suspense novels in general….don’t miss Fatal Trauma.

I’ll be looking for Dr. Mabry’s next release!

I loved this book as I love all the books that this author writes. From the beginning pages, you know you are in for a bumpy, heart thumping ride. The doors to the ER burst open with a man in a wheelchair bleeding. The other man screams for help. Before the staff has a chance to fully respond, a gun is being held to the head of a nurse.
Will the man be saved ? Is this man someone important, or someone associated with a criminal family ?

As the story progresses, the characters will experience terror, helplessness, mistakes and perhaps a chance to change their life. I enjoyed how the Dr and nurse become dependent on each other and find themselves looking for answers from God. No one really knows when danger is upon you , how you would react. It seems that people in the world demand revenge for things they have no control over. This books touches on that subject and takes the characters on a journey of forgiveness and helps them find strength they didn't know they had.
Thank you for another edge of your seat thriller.

I enjoy a book with a good hook and no loose ends, which is exactly what Dr. Richard Mabry delivers with his new novel – Fatal Trauma. For Dr. Mark Baker and Nurse Kelly Atkinson, one life or death situation turns into many after two members of the Zeta drug cartel die in their ER. To make matters worse, the police force blames Mark for the shooting of an officer during the skirmish. Now Mark and Kelly must keep looking over their shoulders, not knowing if they can trust those sworn to protect them, as well as for the Zeta hitman. Faith, trust, and survival dominate this suspense-filled work!

You never get a second chance to make a first impression – or so the saying goes. Fortunately for Richard Mabry, my first impression of his writing was very good. I mentioned before that the book starts with a great hook–a hostage situation is always an effective attention grabber. From there the story expands as multiple players are drawn into the drug cartel’s plot for revenge. Mabry did an amazing job of making my mind chase rabbits. I didn’t know who the killer, and who the mastermind behind the hits was until the author revealed them at the end… Didn’t see that coming.

Of course, there is a sprinkling of love between Mark and Kelly, but the title does not rest on romance. Instead, it settles nicely on Mark’s identity crisis following the shootings. Staring down the barrel of a gun has a special way of making you reevaluate your life. In a little over a week (Saturday through the following Monday), Mark contemplates his relationships, career, faith, and future–assuming he lives!

Fatal Trauma was a very good – 4/5 star book.

Deb’s Dozen: Zeta drug cartel wreaks revenge. Alpha and Omega’s in control: Romans 8:28.

You can count on Richard Mabry’s novels to have three things: medicine and doctors are involved, there is a romance, and there is suspense. Fatal Trauma didn’t disappoint in those three arenas. The action begins in the ER of a Dallas hospital. A gun-waving drugged-up man pushes a wheelchair in through the doors demanding treatment for his brother who’s been shot—everybody dies if he doesn’t get help. ER doctor, Mark Baker, and ER nurse, Kelly Atkinson, and the rest of the staff are definitely in harm’s way. They can tell the victim is already dead, but have to attempt treatment until help arrives. A cop in the next cubby hears them talking, comes in and tells the gunman to give it up—whirling around, the man shoots and the patrolman shoots back, killing the gunman. All this action in the first six pages of the book!

Dr. Baker and Nurse Atkinson hear from the police that these men were probably with the Zetas, a drug cartel from Mexico that’s been moving north. The Zetas have a habit of killing anyone involved in the death of one of their own.

Twists and turns abound on every page. Are the detectives on the case clean or dirty? Does the hospital administrator have something against Mark or is he just protecting the hospital. Is the other ER doctor friend or foe? How about Tracy, Kelly’s best friend—is she wrapped up in this?

You’ll be intrigued all the way to the end AND you’ll never figure out the ending until Mabry tells you. Great job, Dr. Mabry – four stars!

*My Thoughts*

I have a problem.

Symptoms: Sleepless nights, restlessness, chronic cases of looking over the shoulder, fear at the sound of the word "doctor" or "drugs, and lack of trust in the human race.

Diagnosis: Extreme case of "I shouldn't be reading a suspense this late".

Cure: Immediately cease reading extreme suspense books anywhere near your normal bedtime. If you can't handle extreme suspense to the point of being on the verge of screaming while walking through a dimly lit hallway, Fatal Trauma is not for you.

The above is SO true!! I loved the characters and the suspense but I do NOT advise it to be read anytime after 5:00 p.m. Actually, if you aren't big on NCIS, Law & Order, Criminal Intent e.t.c, I don't advise you to read this until you're a little braver. Same goes for young teens.

It's an ingenious plot and ending but I will admit to a serious case of fear as diagnosed above. I read it at around 10:00 p.m and it's a pretty traumatic experience. Not for the faint of heart but definitely worth the read!! Thanks Richard!!

If you are in need of an adrenaline-laced romantic suspense novel for your summer reading pleasure, then look no further than Richard Mabry’s Fatal Trauma. Filled with twists and turns against the backdrop of a busy ER, this novel has it all — great characters, sweet romance and a strong faith message. This is a recommended read!

Mark Baker hasn’t had time for God since his high school days. The rigors of college and medical school and the demands of a career as an emergency room doctor have left him little time for anything beyond getting from one day to the next. Even his relationships consist of superficial events. But when he comes face to face with his own life and death, Mark decides he needs some time for reflection. Unfortunately, his encounter with a gunman is just the beginning of his troubles.

Although Fatal Trauma plunges its characters into danger and stress most of us don’t encounter, it does present true to life emotions and reactions. A life-altering event causes main characters Mark and Kelly to examine and reevaluate what is important in their lives. They learn that even when we are not seeking God, He is there waiting to enter into our lives. The suspense takes off from the opening scene and never lets up throughout the book. I came to suspect EVERYBODY, even the preacher! People are definitely not what they seem and Mabry kept this reader on her toes. I especially liked that superficial judgements of characters often proved very wrong.

Fatal Trauma will certaintly take you away and is a perfect vacation or staycation read.

Recommended.

Audience: adults.

“Nobody move!” starts Chapter 1, page 1 with a lone gunman holding a nurse hostage as he points a pistol against her head to force the emergency room doctor to help his brother who was shot.

Mark baker is dating Kelly Atkinson, the nurse held hostage and Anna King the surgeon whom he assisted in the emergency room on the police officer shot in a gun battle with the deceased perpetrator.

After a doctor involved with the treatment of the perpetrator’s brother dies, Mark believes he knows who is responsible and wonders if his and others involved that night are in danger.

Fatal Trauma is a good read but at times felt a little wordy. Dr. Baker’s relationships seemed awkward and unbalanced between Kelly and Anna.

Overall, I enjoyed the plot, suspense, and setting of this novel. I recommend to readers of medical, romance, and suspense novels.

I've read this author's novels before and enjoyed them, but they tend to follow a certain formula. This one sounded like it broke his formula and could be very exciting, so I thought I'd give it a try. But it's more of a general fiction than medical suspense novel. Mark is the only character that develops over time. The life-and-death event at the beginning gets him to make some changes in his life, like choosing which of three women he wants to get serious with. He's pretty passive in how he deals with the threats against him. He basically gets a lawyer and worries. It's not until the last third of the novel that he finally seems to realize that all of the threats (except the gunman) are nonsense.

Mark initially viewed every problem as a high-level threat. Everything is going against Mark: two threatened malpractice lawsuits, a killing spree against people who were involved in the death of a Zeta drug member, relationship troubles, and unsympathetic police. Personally, if my life is in immediate danger of termination, I'm not going to worry much about my job, which is in danger (1) only if the threatened lawsuits actually happen and (2) if those lawsuits have any real grounds, and we know they don't. Yes, the threat of lawsuits would add stress, but because Mark was so worried about the lawsuits--which posed little immediate threat--it was hard to take even the assassin seriously.

Next, the relationships. Frankly, I couldn't understand why Kelly was interested in him as he seemed like a self-centered jerk at the time she discovered she loved him. I liked Kelly and Mark well enough, but just not as a couple. On to the police: they know the gang is hunting and killing anyone involved with the death of the gang member, but they don't provide even minimal protection to those who tried to save their cop buddy's life after he was shot. Worse, they accuse these people--the gang's future victims--of killing each other rather than assuming the gang is doing the killing. I can see looking into all possible suspects, but immediately accusing Mark of killing someone when a look at his phone records could prove his statement? Yesh. And it's not good cop, bad cop interrogation or just one cop with a grudge--they all act this way. Also, the police knew about the love triangle before they should have had a chance to learn about that from questioning people.

Due to familiarity with the author's writing and the clues, I wasn't surprised by any of the "twists." And it seemed odd that one could buy Kevlar vests "on the way" to pick someone up or that one could buy a shotgun under a false name without any preparation (like a false ID card). So it just didn't come across as realistic to me. It's a decent story, but it wasn't the suspenseful story that I expected. I'd suggest beginning with one of his earlier books if you haven't read any of his novels before.

I was eager to read Fatal Trauma by Richard L. Mabry because I remembered really liking Critical Condition by Richard L. Mabry M.D. If you haven't read any books by this author, you should really check them out. They are medical based thrillers which are super well written because they are written by a retired doctor! Gotta love that he is an author and a doctor to use his life experiences to make it even more interesting to the reader.

The gunman had nothing to lose, and therefore, the lives of everyone in the emergency room were at risk. Dr. Mark Baker and nurse Kelly Atkinson were on duty during the standoff, but despite their efforts, at the end of the evening, three men were dead—one police officer and two members of the feared Zeta drug cartel. But the killing is not over, because when the drug cartel loses its members, revenge is not far behind. Mark’s life continues to be in danger, but to make matters worse he finds he is under suspicion as a killer! He turns to his high school sweetheart, attorney Gwen Woodruff, for help, while Kelly helplessly looks on, hiding her feelings for the doctor. The characters in Fatal Trauma face life and death situations that cause them to question their faith, their priorities, and the meaning of their lives, while learning that God can use everyone— even people who’ve failed—because doesn’t that include all of us?

I got this late so I was feeling rushed to read the book but I got it read with plenty of time because I couldn't put it down!! I loved the last book that I read by this author and this was no different. It had great writing and great characters which were really opened up through the book to show the reader how they were growing in response to everything that was happening. As I was reading it, I felt like I was in the middle of all the drama and action going on in the book so I was on the edge of my seat. There was so many different things going on at the same time that it was action packed even if it was just two people eating lunch because you learned really important information. I love when an author tells the story through the actions of the characters instead of more of a narration because it makes you feel like you are in the middle of the action. I really need to add some of his other books to my reading list but I always forget so this book was a reminder for me. I hope that you add this and others by Richard Mabry to your reading list soon!!! I know that you will enjoy this one and I can't wait to hear what you think!

I can't imagine anything more stressful for a ER doctor than a simple day at work. Everything changes and it truly is never the same day twice. Every patient you get into the Trauma department could be that patients final chance at life, and it all rests in your hands. But what if your typical day at the office was interrupted by an armed gunman who brought you a patient bleeding out. His request, if you don't save him, you all will die one by one. Definitely not what you dreamed would happen when you arrived for work today, but such is the premise behind Richard L. Mabry's latest suspense novel Fatal Trauma.

I have absolutely LOVED every single novel Richard L. Mabry has written because to truly appreciate any medical suspense novel, you have to have a working knowledge of what it takes to be a doctor working in a hospital and the terminology and procedures have to line up correctly to be believable, and thankfully due to being a retired physician, this comes across beautifully in all his novels.

Dr. Mark Baker is attempting to keep a handle on things when the armed man holds a gun, to ER nurse, Kelly Atkinson's head. Unless they can save the unconscious man in the wheelchair, more people will die beginning with Kelly. Just how does someone save a man who clearly appears to be dead while waiting for the possibility of help to arrive? How do you distract an armed gunman who seems to be drug induced? Will there be a possible future for Mark and Kelly if they can find a way out of what has walked into their ER tonight? You'll have to pick this one up to find out!

I received Fatal Trauma by Richard L.Mabry M.D. compliments of Abingdon Press and Litfuse Publicity for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review outside the complimentary copy of the novel and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. This novel is definitely adrenaline filled. From the first chapter, readers are thrust into a situation one hopes never happens in real life and as the body count begins to rise, you wonder how it will all turn out. My favorite part about this novel is the authentic medical descriptions that move the story along. You can tell its genuine because of the author's background in the medical field and for me, this is why I love any of Richard L.Mabry's novels. He takes you someplace you could have never imagined happening to people in the medical field, but there is always that possibility. For me, this one rocks the suspense at a full 5 out of 5 stars! Readers even get a sneak peek at the next novel, Miracle Drug coming out soon. A reader's discussion guide is also included.

Richard L. Mabry, M.D. in his new book “Fatal Trauma” published by Abingdon Press takes us into the life of Dr. Mark Baker.

From the back cover: A Gunman who has nothing to lose faces a doctor who could lose it all

When Dr. Mark Baker and Nurse Kelly Atkinson are held at the mercy of a dangerous gunman, the lives of every emergency room patient are at stake. At the end of the evening three men are dead. One of them is a police officer who couldn’t be saved despite Mark’s best efforts.

I think being in the ER is cause for enough excitement. However Dr. Mabry takes a night in the ER and escalates it from page one. There is a gunman and not only holds them hostage but wants Dr. Baker to help his partner who has been gun shot. From here it just takes off, proving that Dr. Mabry really knows how to write a thriller that will grab your attention and then keep it until he decides to let go. I think “Fatal Trauma” is Dr. Mabry’s best medical thriller to date. Action, mystery and suspense these are the ingredients of “Fatal Trauma”. Dr. Mabry has provided us a complicated mystery thriller as Mark’s life is in danger practically from page one. Turn off the TV, unplug the computer, put aside the housework you are not going to want to do anything but read this book until the end and enjoy yourself in the process. Dr. Mabry has written another exciting book that most certainly is a huge winner!

Being a huge fan of suspense, I jumped on the chance to read Richard Marby’s Fatal Trauma. This was my first chance of reading his book. I was hoping it was the type of book along the same vein of Candace Calvert and Jordyn Redwood.
I recently read my first book by Candace Calvert, and I truly loved her book, so I am thinking that Fatal Trauma would be kind of the same type of suspense book without relying so much on the romance side like Calvert does. The conflict starts in the first chapter with a gunman in a hospital, threatening to shoot everyone who doesn’t help his brother. From that moment on the suspense kept occurring to the Mark, the hero, and Kelly, the heroine. While in most suspense books, I stayed up all night, trying to find out who was after them, but in Marby’s book, I actually got bored. Most of the suspenseful moments happened in a car. Bullets through the window, car chase, car wrapped around a tree, nothing really different occurred. I never really worried for Mark or Kelly’s safety. I was not on the edge of my seat.
As for Mark, he does change spiritually through the book, but his change did not follow the normal path of someone looking for God. He questioned and asked pastors and other believers why they believed, but it seemed simple and happened too quickly for my taste. Similarly, Kelly was undeveloped, and I really did not feel sad when bad things happened to her. I think the characters were cardboard characters moving through the hospital and the gunshots.
Even thought the characters and the plot did not ring true to a suspense book for me, the writing was great. Marby did a good job at allowing me to get inside Mark and Kelly’s head and see their struggles, fears, and thoughts. His control a showing the inner workings of a hospital is evident in her word on the page. I felt like I was roaming the halls of a local hospital, watching the action occur.
Overall, Richard Marby’s Fatal Trauma was not what I was expecting when I picked it up. The characters are plain and the suspense is too common for the genre, begging for me to put the book down. I couldn’t wait to finish the book. It dragged on for a long time.
I received a complimentary copy of Richard Marby’s Fatal Trauma by Abington Press and the opinions stated are all my own.

Dr. Mark Baker and Kelly Atkinson are found in the ER during the opening scene, trying to save the life of a Zeta drug cartel member, however they fail. Also losing the life of police officer Ed Purvis as he put his life on the line also trying to protect so many, is Fatal Trauma by Richard L. Mabry, MD

This book never slows down from here

At the risk of sounding like a clichés’. This book has it all, espionage, murder, accusatory policemen, love, and everything else that keeps you on the edge of your seat, Did Mark and Key murder someone? Or is someone trying to set them up for murder?

This book will stay in a "clean read" catagory for me based on no sexual content, the language was very appropriate. While the violence is not described other than in medical terms usually, there is a lot of violence implied. So that alone might tturn some away from this book. However, the implications of violence are so brief in each aspect of it, it is easy to get by it.

The one constant in this book is that several people rely on their relationship with Christ however the author never takes the time to build any single character’s relationship with Christ, in a grand way.

It's usually always an after thought. That is disappointing to me because I was expecting more. While this one thing was disappointing I can honestly recommend this book!

I mean, how can you get through a day without calling on Christ when you are accused of murder, people are trying to murder you and you are losing so much also. The only Bible reference is Roman's 8:28

Romans 8:28. ‘And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them

Richard L. Mabry, MD has put together a very good mystery/thriller and he is an author I will be reading more of his work. This was a basically clean read, except for the things I have commented on so far. I loved the medical facts being used, in every aspect. I mean from the correct dosages of medications to the exact terminology of a procedure or medical instrument. I also loved that he explained the things that may have been difficult to understand,

Fatal Trauma by Richard L Mabry is a modern day medical thriller and I was blessed to receive a copy. It was a compulsive read which definitely increased my heartbeat!
A normal night shift in ER turns into a nightmare for Dr Mark Baker and nurse Kelly Atkinson, after a gunman bursts in demanding help for his brother. After several minutes that seemed like hours, the situation appears to be resolved, but then the nightmare really begins. Who can Mark and Kelly trust? What is the truth? And why do the police not believe Mark's story? It is questions like these and many more that will have the reader transfixed and on the edge of the seat!
Fatal Trauma was an amazing read with plot twists coming thick and fast. It was impossible to predict, just when you thought that you had got it sussed, the action took a different turn. This was the first book that I had read by Richard L Mabry, but I shall definitely be reading more.
Fatal Trauma was not just a thriller, but it had God very much at the heart of it. Kelly as a Christian, found a peace that only God can give. She prayed for her situations and friends, and saw God working for the good in all things. Mark was a Christian but had fallen away in his teens. He began to recognise his need for Christ, as he declared " I want to be a follower and not an observer." This should be the cry of all of us, to want to follow Christ.
The characters of Mark and Kelly were well drawn and realistic. I found myself rooting for them in all situations.
Richard L Mabry's technique for writing a thriller is superb. Some chapters finished on a real cliff hanger, and it was a relief to know that the next chapter was immediately following - and I didn't have to wait a week as in a TV series! Fatal Trauma would make a wonderful film. I do hope that filmmakers out there will read the book.
It is clear from his writing, that Richard L Mabry is medically qualified, as there were many medical terms and procedures mentioned. This only served to heighten the tension and drama.
I got so engrossed in the action that I found myself literally with a raised heartbeat and sweaty palms!!
It's a thrilling read of a novel, so buckle up and download or buy a copy of Fatal Trauma, and enjoy a really good read.

What happens when you are an emergency room doctor whose life's mission is to serve those who are sick and injured but the patient that just came in has a gun totting relative who is threatening to kill everyone if you let his brother die? The first problem is this, the brother is DOA from several gunshots, so how can you save someone who is dead?

That is what Dr. Mark Baker and Nurse Kelly Atkinson faced in the opening scene of this novel. Their solution was interesting but also traumatic for many people. It also sets the stage for the tension throughout the novel. The brothers were part of a drug cartel who will decide that everyone involved in treating the patient and letting him die will also need to die. That puts targets on our two main characters. How will this resolve.

Also, there is a love triangle of sorts, involving Dr. Baker, Nurse Atkinson and another doctor from the hospital. But the question will stand out with, what will happen? Who loves whom and will they get together?

Then add to that the religious aspect of searching happening by Dr. Baker. He accepted Christ at a young age, but he has drifted for years. Nurse Atkinson is not drifting, she has a vibrant faith in God. Others in the story are drifting, lost or walking with Christ. The author takes the theme of salvation, peace in Christ, trust and obedience and weaves them into the story line.

All this to say that the book has lots of good content and things that you can take and talk through with others as you like.

So, why only 4 stars? That's a good question. I guess it's because of all the death, killing and distrust that happens throughout the story. I know that is true human nature, but I guess I just didn't like the drug cartel having the mindset of killing everyone off. I guess I have just gotten to use to the happily ever after scenarios.

This book will definitely have some twists and turns that you won't see coming.

Enjoy!

If you enjoy edge of your seat suspense, who-dun-it plots and Christian fiction then get ready for Richard Mabry’s newest book Fatal Trauma. I enjoy all the above and I’ve enjoyed Mr. Mabry’s other titles as well, and so when this one came up for review I knew I had to get this one in my hands, and I was not disappointed. As soon as I began the book I knew I’d have a hard time putting it down. From the beginning I was grabbed up into the story and probably would have finished it sooner if I didn’t have other things and children calling my attention. There were times when some of the medical jargon was a bit too much, but seeing as how Mr. Mabry is a retired doctor, it’s normal for him to write, think and act that way so it wasn’t hard to get through that – just sort of made it a bit more slow moving at times.

Since it is Christian suspense you’ll not find bad language or adult scenes, although the initial criminal act in the book is full of heart racing action some may find it to be hard to read but having read secular suspense and crime books this one is a walk through the park. Mr. Mabry makes his characters come alive, through the actions of both the ‘good’ one and the ‘bad’ ones the characters are fully developed and it seems like you are really looking into their lives as they live it, heart pounding by heart pounding beat. I think too that is why the medical jargon doesn’t throw me as much as it would some because his characters are just that well rounded and seem so real so it’d be normal to hear a doctor or nurse speak as they do in the book. I do recommend this book or any of his others if you’d like something to keep you awake at night, or if you’re already awake to keep you company.

I have quickly learned that when I pick up a book with Dr. Richard Mabry's name on the cover, I'm going to be in for a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat, can't put it down read. His newest book, Fatal Trauma, in my humble opinion, is his best.

Fatal Trauma begins when a gunman enters the ER holding Nurse Kelly Atkinson at gunpoint as she pushes the gunman's brother into the ER in a wheelchair. The first thing Dr. Mark Baker thinks about is how to escape the area without be drawn into the situation. Unfortunately, the gunman notices Mark and asks if he is the doctor. This begins one of the most heart pounding book beginnings that I have read in a long time.

The gunman is part of the Zeta drug cartel and by the end of the evening two of the cartel's members are dead and revenge is just around the corner. When the drug cartel begins their reign of retaliation, people are stalked, murdered, malpractice lawsuits are threatened and the twists and turns takes the reader on a wild trip in this wonderful new medical drama.

I have read all of Dr. Mabry's novels and I find with each book his talent for the craft of writing has grown. His characters seem real enough to walk off the page and into your world. I found that in Fatal Trauma I was rooting for Dr. Mark Baker as he reminded me of a doctor I once worked with in the operating room.

If you are a fan of medical suspense novels, then do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of Fatal Trauma. I guarantee you that it will be well worth your time. With drug cartels, murders, stalking, false accusation, and a little romance it will keep you so entertained that you will lose track of time.

On a 5-Star scale -= 5 HUGE Stars!!!!!

I would like to thank Litfuse Publicity and Abingdon Press for my copy of Fatal Trauma. I received my copy for free in order to read it and give my honest review, which I have done.

Retired physician Dr.Richard Mabry has found a wonderful career writing Christian suspense novels. I've read and enjoyed every single one. This one was no different.

"A gunman who has nothing to lose faces a doctor who could lose it all. When Dr. Mark Baker and Nurse Kelly Atkinson are held hostage by a dangerous gunman, the life of every ER patient is at stake. At the end of the evening, 3 men are dead, including two members of the feared Zeta drug cartel. Though the standoff is over, the killing is not, because when the drug cartel loses its members, revenge is not far behind.

When he finds himself under suspicion as a killer yet still a potential victim, Mark turns to an old friend for answers he needs in order to face an adversary whose desires are dark and whose efforts are ruthless. Who is the shooter? Who will the next victim be? And can Mark prove his innocence before the gun turns on him?"

Dr. Mabry starts out with a bang in this novel, keeps the conflict going and continues to add layers, making this a suspense novel to make your heart pound with excitement. I love how he continues to add to the mystery, so that every time I think I might know who the culprit is, something happens to change my mind. And he completely surprised me! I had absolutely NO IDEA who the bad guy was. I suspected all the wrong people.

Yet another good book from Dr. Richard Mabry. I never miss his novels.

have enjoyed every Richard Mabry book I have read, and he has become synonymous with great Christian medical suspense to me. When I open a book of his and start to read, I know it is going to be a good read, and this one was no exception,

A lot of suspense novels slowly inch into the suspense and action. This book jumps into it on the first page with a hostage/gunman situation in the Emergency Department of a hospital, and it doesn't slow down but keeps up throughout the whole book. Mabry does an excellent job of combining a Christian message, suspense, and hospital happenings in a way that it is interesting and easy to understand and read. I didn't get bogged down with the medical "stuff", and found it interesting to get an insider's take on hospital happenings.

I liked the main characters, and it was nice to read a book that focused more on the male character than the female. Christian fiction tends to be a woman's market, and even when male authors write a book, they often do it from a female's point of view, so cheers to Mabry for focusing on a story more from a man's point of view.

The book had some surprises and although I saw some thins coming, I didn't see everything coming, which makes for a great novel. I did read the book in one sitting, which I often to with a great novel such as this, and recommend it to lovers of Christian suspense.

This is a stand alone title.

My thoughts:

I normally love medical books. This book was no exception. It doesn't have a lot to do with the actual medical side except for the hospital setting and that most of the people involved are in the medical field, but that's okay! It's an excellent book that is filled with suspense. You're not going to know who the bad guys are anymore than the characters in the book do!

I also want to mention that I enjoyed the scenes centered around child abuse. Child abuse is such a huge thing in our society but something that most people don't want to think about or really don't know about. Either parent can be the abuser and this book nails that point.

There are so many levels of suspense in this book. You have the not knowing who the shooter is or where the shooter will be. You don't know who the next victim is going to be. And then you have to mix in the drug cartel. Are they working with the hospital? Do they have people within the hospital? How are they choosing their victims and why? Plus you have to add in the romantic portion. Who will Dr Mark end up with? Will he be arrested for killing a woman he dated? Will he end up with Kelly or his old flame(turned lawyer) Gwen? Or will any of them survive?

Fast paced and a quick read that I highly recommend. You're going to want to check this one out!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Fatal Trauma is another addition to the awesome medical suspense books by Richard Mabry, M.D.! Being a doctor, the medical descriptions of hospital scenes, medicines, medical terms, job responsibilities of those in the medical field are real, and I always feel like I am in the middle of the scenes.

This story starts out with a bang, with a man entering the ER with his brother and a gun, threatening everyone that didn't help save his brothers life he would kill them. Dr. Mark Baker' main concern was Nurse Kelly Atkinson, especially since he had dated her and was attracted to her. But was this brother already dead? And the police shows up and the scene was not a pretty one. There are many twists and turns in this story, a lot going on that makes you wonder just how many people are running with the bad guys, to many people are losing their lives. The police need to get to the bottom of this before anyone else gets hurt or loses their lives. And that's all I will say about this book! Because its much more fun digging in to at book like this not knowing a thing about what is going on. And you know with Dr. Mabry, its going to be a killer read!

I received this book from Litfuse to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 55.

Fatal Trauma had my heart in my throat from the first page forward, and made me keep turning the page, and I was not disappointed.
We have a you ER doctor and nurse busy working and taking care of patients, when a gunman arrives with a man in a wheelchair having been shot, the man pushing the chair has a gun to the head of the nurse, and threatens everyone on the room. Oh my, this is just a taste of what you are about to experience as you enter the world and mind of Dr. Mabry.
The twists and violence didn’t make sense to me, but when drugs are involved nothing makes is too much and of course there is a lot of money involved. This is not just one sweet romantic book, no, but it does have some romance, you just won’t be sure who is involved for a while.
I never saw a lot of what happened coming, and some that I thought were the criminals turned out to be one of the good guys, and others, oh my they sure fooled me. Who can be trusted, just one and that is God, and yes there is a Christian focus in this book, and made my enjoyment of this book even greater.
If you love suspense as I do, this is going to be a favorite book for you, a real page-turner, and don’t let your guard down, you will be waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I received this book through Litfuse Publicity Blog Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.

Fatal Trauma is a fast-paced ride through a medical mystery, and as usual, it's a twisty, turny ride. Every time I figured out who the villain was, Mabry quickly proved me wrong. With medical issues, a drug cartel, and romance all on the table, there are new developments on every page.

Like many of Mabry's characters, Dr. Baker has a weak faith and his experiences challenge this throughout the story. He evaluates his decisions and grows his faith as well as his relationships with Nurse Atkinson.

If there's anything I'd like to change about the book, it's the depth of the characters. Information abounds about their actions and about their faith changes, but I'd like more personal information about them. My favorite characters are the ones that feel as if we could be friends, but I don't feel that way about these. Not because I dislike them, but because I feel as if I don't know them well enough. I'd just like to know more - more background, more likes and dislikes, more details.

On the other hand, I love the suspense and the surprises that Mabry builds into the plot. I haven't been able to guess the ending of any of his books yet before he reveals it, and those types of surprises just make a mystery. Mabry continues to rank high on my list of favorite mystery authors.

I received a free copy of Fatal Trauma in exchange for an honest review.

As Mark is finishing up his shift in the ER, his world is about to change. Held at gunpoint and told to operate on a man that he knows is already dead, Mark has to find a way to get himself and everyone else out alive. He knows that his trouble has just begun when he finds out that it was the infamous "Zeta Drug Cartel". As he struggles to stay alive and protect those he loves over the coming days, there is enough non-stop action to keep you flipping the pages.

I enjoyed the spiritual theme throughout the book. I felt like God was a big part. I thought it was odd that the Scripture used was from the KJV. As far as the characters go, it seemed like they were left wanting. There was nothing really loveable about them to keep you hoping they were safe. The writing was also a bit strange. It almost seemed like it was written a few decades ago. Nobody really talks like they did in these conversations and the girls certainly don't communicate with each other the way it portrayed in the book.

Overall, a great action story. The author certainly knows his facts and there was plenty of interesting storyline. If you are more tuned into relationships, interactions and friendships, you might want to keep looking.

Thank you, Litfuse, for this book! As always, this is my honest opinion. Here's to many more.
