this book is the perfect example as to why most tiktok influencers should never write books. i shouldn't have really expected much from someone who still makes "deez nuts" jokes, though, so that's on me.

didn't absolutely hate the poems about anger and loneliness though.

Thank you to Black & White Publishing, the author and NetGalley for a DRC in return for an honest review

I requested a digital copy of this book of poetry, but 2 or 3 poems in I realised it wasn't working. For me, Peach Martine's poetry is not suited to this format. I persevered but as soon as the audiobook was released I listened to that instead. This was definitely the right choice. Before I read her poems, I was not aware of Peach Martine on any level. I have since watched her audition on American Idol and some of her TikTok videos - as a result I now follow her on TikTok and Spotify! She is a very talented poet, singer and songwriter and has achieved a lot in a short space of time. Although I couldn't get to grips with the written versions of her poems, as soon as I listened to her voicing them, everything suddenly clicked into place. I must say though that the digital version will be invaluable for those wanting to memorize the poems. I hope this (audio)book 🎧 enables Peach Martine's poetry to reach a much wider audience, as she totally deserves all the praise she gets.

The chords🎵 included above each poem (read aloud on the audiobook) are a nice touch. They enable those who play an instrument to follow along with the artist.

Stand out poems for me were:

'Is it Pink?'
"This is a song about all the very real and vulgar things men have said to (Peach) on TikTok live. (She) posted this song on TikTok, and was met with about 20 million views, 4 million likes, 50,000 comments, 23 rape threats, 18 death threats, and one comment from a girl who looked just like (her) when (she) was 14, who said she thinks this is badass."

'Love Song'
This is anything but a love song! It is raw, unfortunately necessary and confronts readers with the dark undercurrent of online misogyny in a society that still asks women to tolerate it.

It’s not a love song. It’s a warning song.

Peach Martine’s poetry is unapologetic, emotionally sharp and deeply attuned to the pressures of being a female online today. The audio format brings her words fully to life and this is where her voice, literally and figuratively, shines the brightest.

Listen, don’t read: Peach Martine’s voice brings the magic!

AUDIO BOOK BORROWBOX

Desperate for sleep in the middle of the night, with a few minutes before the light from my phone irritated John I borrowed this.

It was ok, I like that it rhymed, enjoyed the pace to help me sleep for a couple of nights.

I would like to investigate more poetry options to listen and read.

One of the poems has a bit along the lines of "I'm a child, adolescence won't unhand me", and that's a very good summary of this book. The poems towards the end of the collection are a bit more complex (I'd guess they are assembled in roughly chronological order?).

I'm glad others enjoy these works though, and it'll be interesting to see how Martine's writing changes with time.
