He starts off by noting that Buddhism focuses on the spiritual development of a person, not their relationship to any deity. He goes into the history of the Buddha. He then defines the Middle Way as consisting of enlightenment, eternal happiness and peace.
The 4 Noble Truths are:
The Truth of Suffering: life is suffering. The Truth of the origin of suffering and desire. The Truth of the cessation of suffering. The Truth of the path to the cessation of suffering.
He explains briefly what each of these are. Then he moves onto the 8-Fold Path which consists of:
Right Understanding Right Intention Right Speech Right Action Right Livelihood Right Effort Right Mindfulness Right Concentration.. Again, he defines what these are.
He then moves on to the three divisions of Buddhism and what each of them consist of and practicing Buddhism .It all makes for an interesting introduction to the subject.
It gave me a simple and basic understanding of Buddhism. I personally have never read anything about the philosophy until now and it helped me understand it a lot more. I will definitely do more reading and deep research on Buddhism but for those seeking a quick and basic understanding, this book will help.
I read this book after reading Tai Morelli's on Buddhism for Beginners. Here is the link (not an affiliate link) . https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01H41.... I paid $0.99 for Ms. Sharma's book and I honestly feel it was more of a booklet read rather than a book.
Was looking for a reference book that synopsizes The Four Noble Truths and The Eightfold Path. This book does exactly that along with its brief introduction to Buddhism's origins, history and branches.
Simple and easy to understand, trying to get a basic knowledge of some of the major religions, this gave a brief history and list of the basic requirements. Just what I was looking for
