I lived for my club. I prided myself on being loyal and a stand-up guy. My club means everything to me. My men came to respect my presidency and respected my honesty. They knew my word was law and I meant every word out of my mouth. As president of Devil's Disciplines MC, my respect was earned. They knew I was never going to but anything above my club. That was until the mysterious and sassy Maci showed up at one of our businesses. The minute I touched her, I knew she was meant to be mine. Little did I know, Maci has a secret that could ruin us before we even began.
Romance trope: mc/on the run Series: The Devil's Disciples MC Length: 140 pages
Plot: Maci is a young prosecutor, and her current case against a local mob boss is the biggest of her career. When she wins, he threatens her and her family, so she and her daughter have to go into witness protection. They end up in a small New Mexico town where Maci meets Hawk, an MC pres who falls for her, despite not knowing anything about her. The mob boss isn't through with her yet, though.
Commentary: There were some definite questions for me with respect to the plot. Maci Taylor is in witness protection because of a mob threat, so now she goes by Maci Tyler? And their handler told her to use her daughter's old school records? The Devil's Disciples aren't a 1 percenter club, but sometimes they sell drugs and kill people? It was mostly just a chance to throw together a biker and a lawyer in a way that wouldn't include him being on trial, I think. It had potential.
Grammar/formatting: Needs another round with an editor/proofreader - I can still understand the story, but it's distracting enough that I won't read the rest of the series: misuse of words like "incredulous" and "snidely," malapropisms like "hanging on by a threat," missing words, incorrect prepositions, and, while not an error, the use of "fucktard" three times - one of my least favorite insults ever (ableist, and while I understand that people talk that way, it makes me cringe every time I see it because you definitely could pick another word with as much impact). There were some things that weren't grammar/syntax errors, but confused me - like saying that they picked out a house after her first good paycheck - how good was that paycheck?! And that the prison wasn't being forthcoming about details regarding an active U.S. Marshals case - they don't have a choice in an investigation like that. I know that it's always a heated debate about grammar mistakes, and I don't mind one or two. I also know that you have to pay for an editor/proofreader, and for indie authors, that can be a stumbling block. If you're an author, though, you want to be professional about it, and part of that is presenting as good of a product as possible. Writing a story is both art and technique. There were too many errors in this one to ignore.
This book has the potential to be great. There’s a good introduction to the characters and some of the main people in the area which helps for future books and the plot and storyline work well. Unfortunately there are a lot of editing errors such as spelling mistakes and wrong words used which detract from how I’ve scored it. A quick edit and tidy up would see it move up to 4 stars.
Hawk: MC romance ( the devil’s disciples MC book 1)
I enjoyed reading this first MC series, by this author. It begins with the president of the MC Hawk and Maci meeting at the MC cafe. She is in protective witness program with her thirteen year old daughter. Hawk and Maci has an off the charts romantic relationship. Their is a mystery and drama aspect to this novel.
This is a good read , the story has depth and the characters are genuine. There’s enough hook to keep up with the series and pull the reader along. Probably get a couple books at a time .
This book was Great. It was entertaining, short, single mom, witness protection program, lawyer, house blown up, MC President, action, hospital and so much more. The ending DAMM!!! Definitely, reading book 2, next. Love it!!!
Maxi is running from the mob and lands in town working at the club diner. But Hawk knows she's running from trouble and his. Good start but found it rushed in parts.
An intoxicating, thrilling and exciting ride to go on. Amongst all the chaos Hawk and Maci find something neither of them expected but definitely deserved. I enjoyed this story.
