Blackstone Academy #3

Knox: Blackstone Academy, Book 3

Rate this book
When I broke my year-long vow of celibacy for a one-night stand with a beautiful, intriguing wolf girl I met in a Las Vegas bar, I thought I’d be chalking it up to just another notch on my bedpost—as much as I’d actually wished it could have been more.

But when I return home to my pack and my duties as alpha, including my new volunteer gig at Blackstone Academy as its interim men’s soccer coach, I discover that my Vegas girl is not only the school’s latest hire but she’s also the newest addition to our pack—and she’s not exactly thrilled about it.

I’m also facing increasing threats from the outside—like megalomaniac alphas who want to take my pack from me—but I’m determined to prove that I’m the best alpha for this pack in spite of the fact that I inherited the role as a teenager from my conniving coward of a father when he disappeared 10 years ago.

To top it all off, I’m under constant pressure from the pack elite to finally settle down with a powerful mate so that I can provide a strong alpha heir, showing these meddlesome outsiders that our alpha line is virile and strong.

I’m holding it together, and I’m still not looking for a mate—except I can’t seem to stop myself from thinking about our newest pack member, who fascinates me in a way no woman has in a very long time. In the eyes of the pack, she’s exactly the wrong kind of wolf for me, but I learned my lesson the first time I rejected a wolf I thought was beneath me.

It was the biggest mistake I’ve ever made—one that I won’t be making a second time.

I’m Knox Monroe, alpha of the Northwest Louisiana Pack, and I’m going to protect my pack and get the girl—and no one is going to f-----g stop me.

This audiobook is intended for those 18 and above and contains steamy scenes and foul language. There is a slight age gap between our hero and heroine, who are both in their 20s. If you’re ready to get into Knox’s head and see him finally get his HEA, then come on in.

I was pleasantly surprised by this story. When I first heard that Knox "The Jack*ss" Monroe would get his story I was not on board. I've been burned in the past bad with anti-hero stories so, if I'm being frank, I was going to skip this one entirely. It was actually really cool to win a copy and try it out and end up loving it!

Going back to those anti-hero stories that have burned me in the past. At first, I thought this story was going to give Knox a personality transplant to make him likable enough to get to a place in the story where he deserves a happy ending. I can not tell you how wrong I was! He's still the same old Knox just quite a few years removed *ahem* matured from his philandering ways. He's sowed his oats and just wants to settle down while still keeping the respect he's earned as alpha. It was actually a breath of fresh air to see him not be a d*ck for the sake of being one. I liked that he actually learned how to respect people that are less powerful than him in the hierarchy of the pack. It was weird because I found myself kinda sorta liking him for the first time since he was introduced.

Kady was fantastic! She was such a good match for Knox. I loved her sass and spunky personality. I liked that she didn't grow up in a pack and therefore didn't care much about hierarchy, power level, and such. I loved how fate basically threw Knox and Kady together. Their banter was also very entertaining to listen to.

I didn't see the resolution with Knox's father coming but I'm very glad that that plotline has been put to rest. That guy deserves whatever he has coming.

However, there were things I didn't love about this book. Firstly, the overdramatic girl-on-girl hate. This is something that has been present in all the books I've read by this author so far and it still bothers me to no end. Secondly, how what seems, but is probably an over-exaggeration on my part, like every other pack aside from Knox's is extremely homophobic and sexist. This is fiction. Could we maybe tone that down? The world is burning as it is. I want to get away from all that when I'm reading not dive head first into it.

Overall, I enjoyed Knox's story very much. I will continue on in this series and will probably read whatever else this author writes. The writing style is rather steady-paced and relaxing to listen to. I'm very glad I was proven wrong with this book!

The Audio Book:

The narration was great! All the characters were distinguishable from each other.

* I won a copy of this audiobook in a giveaway. All opinions in this review are my own.

more cheesy fun.

I liked this one about as much as the first book. I skimmed the sexy stuff and the ending. It was super predictable and low on angst. But it was entertaining.
Ten years after the first book, Knox has been celibate for a year as a bet with his friends. Everyone from the first book is here too. Knox is the only one still single and he's kinda tired of it.
Then he meets Kady the half human omega wolf, and he and his wolf are besotted. It's never said that it's a true mate bond, but the way they fall for each other is more like that or love at first sight.
Still, Kady is cautious and leaves before they can exchange names etc.
Of course they meet again, and there's another ridiculous OTT evil chick.
Kady has a ridiculous OTT evil guy too.
Then there's the villain who wants to take over the pack...

SO lots of villains but once they are defeated and the H, h have their love life sorted, I lost interest.
The crux of the story is, can Knox be redeemed from the shallow selfish ass he was in the first book?

Yes, I think he was redeemed. In the beginning he's entirely too polite to the OW wannabe but there's really no prevaricating after he meets Kady.
He even grovels when Kady finds out about his past with Mave.

Anyways, safety is good.

"The Moon is making you earn this one, my friend."

Deep breath. Don't tear up.

Okay. So, I've seen a lot of concern over Knox being redeemable or worth reading. I feel I need to state this before you read my full review because I'm only going to say it once, and then we're moving on. If Mave was able to forgive Knox for rejecting her, as readers, we have no room to hold onto that dislike.

Personally speaking, I went into Knox chomping at the bit for a redemption of the manwh0re. I needed a female to put him in his place, tables turned, and he could grovel and chase until she gave in. Kady gives it all.

Kady is an extremely thoughtful female. While she was not raised in a pack mentality, she understands the significance of Knox's role and she tries to distance herself from him immediately, which doesn't really work with Knox's desires.

The immediate connection between the two of them just can't sway her to freefall into him. Personally, I loved the struggle because, of course, as soon as Knox would make any significant progress, they'd backslide so he could start all over again.

Knox is really the perfect closure to the Blackstone Academy books. Now, obviously, we have an MM novella for Asher and Deacon on the way, but this is tentatively the final full-length book, and it was incredible.

Without giving ANYTHING away, I spent the first 30% screeching out loud at every little head nod or reappearance of previous book characters (my dog's were Very concerned about my mental state).

I fell head over heels for Deacon with Asher. I enjoyed the new nicknames for Thad and Mason provided by Kady. I loved Kacey. I point blank told Elizabeth Dear she needs to stop teasing me with Daddy Nerd P0rn interactions because I am way too invested for him to be a side character.

I loved seeing Bianca's growth and Blake's continued sh*t stirring. I swooned hard for Ronin.

When I tell you I thought I was ready for this book, I really did think that. I was wrong because this book turned out to be so much more than I could have anticipated in the best way possible.

Loose ends and most questions you could've had at the end of the previous books are answered and resolved in such a way that it came to a very natural conclusion without feeling rushed or even like it was a final goodbye.

Elizabeth Dear writes in such a way that she could return to this world any time and pick up where she left off. Thank you for this story.

Readable, but lacking the same charm as the first two. I wasn't a fan of how mushy he became during this one, and the bdsm-lite vibe felt like it was trying to give his character a darker edge, but it just didn't work. The "baby girl/big guy" nicknames were kinda icky too.

Also, Kady needed to be more of a fleshed-out character. She kinda lacked a personality, so I was bored with her.

This remains a delightful paranormal world to spend time in. Knox’s book was everything that it should be. It could maybe be read as a stand-alone, but it lands so much better if you enter it having the context of Mave’s book – and “Mave Fortune” is the best one in this series, anyway, so why wouldn’t you read it first?

It’s funny that the author wrote a note at the beginning where she seemed nervous about whether readers would reject a hero who's 29, since the other books had high school aged characters. Knox’s book is so much better this way, that was absolutely the right call. He was such a jackass as a teenager – as we know from Mave’s book! – that he really DID need years to mature into a worthy hero to anchor his own book. This wouldn't have worked if he was younger.

I do love it when a series takes a villain from an early book and redeems him in a later book – but too often, it isn’t believable because authors make the timeline too short, and we’re expected to buy that the character changed on a dime just because he met a girl. Luckily, this book avoids that pitfall. Knox needed an entire decade to plausibly grow as a person before Kady came into his life (and this way, his evolution is not HER responsibility! That’s another pitfall of this trope that this book avoids!)

It was also a smart writing choice to make them coaches in order to keep the same high school setting, so that this felt consistent with the first two books despite having older characters.

Kady was a great heroine, likable and down to earth. It really was delicious that she was an omega wolf, after the way that Knox treated Mave when he only THOUGHT she was one, in her book. (And it was also fun to see characters like Mave, Blake, and Ben react to this). I wasn’t sure what to expect with her being a weaker wolf, but she stood up to Knox a lot, so she never felt weak.

The plot was solid, if a little predictable – long before the reveal at the end about who the true villain was, I called that. But it’s not a bad thing, I’m glad the story closed the loop on that dangling plot thread.

My one quibble, aside from the mean girls not getting enough comeuppance, is that Kady was sidelined at the end. It’s totally fine that Knox got the final climactic fight, this IS his book. But couldn’t the author have given Kady something better to do than just stand there watching? Throughout this story, the point was hammered in that she could handle herself in a fight, even though everyone underestimated her. And then that plot thread just…didn’t go anywhere.

It was especially odd because there was a moment at the end where she DID run into the fight and it felt like that was gearing up to be a big deal, like maybe she’d save Knox, or get in the final hit that knocked out the villain. But, that amounted to nothing.

I still like Mave's book best in this series. But, this was very enjoyable overall, and a successful entry in the "redeem the villain from an earlier book" trope. And making Knox likeable — and giving all the characters from previous books lots of scenes in this — was a great way to wrap up this world.

These books really do hit the spot when you’re in the mood for a light but well-done and absorbing paranormal read.

Much more spice than I was expecting but again we jumped 10 years so the characters were older. Liked Knox’s character development since the first two books but I would have liked to actually seen it happen verses him just grown up into a better person. I liked Kady and I liked the soccer aspect. The plot was good but predictable.

Knox

Knox 😍 An Alpha's Redemption was amazingly written in my opinion. I absolutely loved every single thing about this book. If you haven't read the first two books I highly recommend you at least read Mave Fortune: A Rejected Mates Story, Book One, of this series. You get a huge introduction to Knox as a cocky 19 yr old alpha heir, and will have a better understanding to a scene that takes place in Book 3. Book 3 is 10 yrs later, and we get to know a much more humble Knox as an Alpha. He definitely had his Redemption plus some in this book. I absolutely love this group of friends and their families and I'm excited for the novella of Asher. I really hope there will be more to come from this world. Do yourself a favor and read this series👌🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I was happy to see Knox get his redemption arc. He was so obnoxious in Book 1, but he really grew up since then and ultimately, was a good guy at heart. It was sweet how even Mave and Ben, whom Knox was so terrible to in Book 1, have learned to love him (platonically) and root for his happy ending. I loved seeing everyone again in this book, all grown up and happy 10 years later.

Kady was confident and didn’t suffer through drama and messes. Knox, however, brought drama and messes wherever he went because of his high power and position. It was funny to see her try to stay away from Knox after they reunited after their one night stand. And it was even funnier to see Knox finally work hard to chase after a girl who initially wanted nothing to do with him. This was all the more satisfying, as Mave said, that Kady was an omega, the very class that Knox rejected Mave over that started the whole mess in Book 1. It was nice to see that Mave and Knox have become friends since then. She forgave him and he felt genuine guilt for how he used to be. Knox truly grew to be a better man. He was also a good leader for his people and it made sense why Mason and Thad were so loyal to him all this time.

Kady was a good fit for him, in that she was fierce, not afraid to fight and voice her opinions, like to the mean girls that follow Knox. And she also treated him like a normal person, something he craved for because he was tired of people using him for position and power. She was aware of their different stations but she didn’t let it impact her self-esteem. I liked how she was independent. Although she was considered an omega and innately not powerful, she still fought back, and used her own resources to enhance her small abilities. She had determination and passion that backed her up. And she also took self-defense classes as a human so she could feel secure in being able to protect herself.

Mave was still a hoot. I loved that she and Ben took Kady under their own wings and needled Knox as he chased after Kady. It was also nice to see her and Blake still be so happy and in love.

The surprise for me was seeing Asher and Deacon. Asher had a small role in Book 2, but he seemed nice enough. I learned to adore their relationship together, them being a wolf and human. Asher was bubbly and sweet, while Deacon was grumpy and protective. It was great to see them be friends with Kady and have her back as well.

Mason and Thad, as always, being the best supporters and friends of Knox. I really want to see Mason’s own book! Anyway, I was also happy to see Thad and Ben be cute and funny as always.

It was interesting to see Jack be a mentor/father-figure to Knox. You wouldn’t expect it considering how terrible Knox was to Mave in Book 1. I guess even Jack saw the potential of goodness in Knox.

I also loved Mave’s family. Her mom was supportive and relaxed. She was a single mom and you could tell how amazing she was from that, but also that she learned to raise a wolf girl, even though she had no prior knowledge of paranormals before Mave. Her brother, Sam, didn’t have too many scenes, but he was sweet and he lended a sense of normally among all the wolf stuff.

On a side note, I appreciated that the mean girls in this book weren’t as typically mean as we saw in the mean girls from the previous book. A bit more gray area, I think. Olivia knew she did wrong by mistreating and underestimating Kady and she actually apologized (plus, she apparently had badass interrogation skills that she used on the enemy). Even Kady said she could see herself being Olivia’s friend under different circumstances. I wouldn’t mind if she got her own book one day. And Daphne was the worse of the 2, but I liked that even she had lines she wouldn’t cross. She wasn’t a desperate psycho who had to be with the protagonist at all costs (like 2 crazy girls in the previous 2 books). When Knox rejected her, she didn’t beg and just told him that by the time he came crawling back (he wouldn’t), she wouldn’t be interested anymore. I respected that even though she was still terrible. And also, she was appalled when This meant she had some lines she wouldn’t cross, which I respected.

This author has a lot of components that I adore in this book. I absolutely love that she is inclusive and diverse in her books and in a way that feels natural and multi-dimensional. And she also writes super strong protagonists who are confident but also vulnerable in a way that feels relatable and realistic. The big family and friendship themes warm my heart. All together, these aspects make the stories feel more layered, fun, and meaningful.

Overall, this was a satisfying book, being able to see all the characters we loved again. Knox’s growth and Kady’s confidence and resourcefulness made them lovable. They were a cute couple, and I really hope we get more books in this series! I am officially a huge fan of this author and can’t wait to see what more she has in store, whether in this series or other series! 4 stars

“Well, omega is just a special designation we have in our packs for the shifters who are the least powerful or may need special protection. Some omegas have trouble shifting; others may be disabled. Some just have very submissive wolves without an aggressive bone in their body. It’s not a bad thing! It just means we’ll watch out for you.”

Oh Knox! You were such a jerk in Mave! But ya know what they say? Always pick Dillon over Brandon. Damon over Stefan. Spike over Angel. So while I knew Mave didn’t end up with Knox from Book 1, I was so interested in him and I could not wait for his reception story! Need proof? See Dean from Sophie Lark!

Knox grew up so much from the jerk he was in Mave’s book and I was so happy! Yay! His reformed player ways are now under control but gave in to a wolf his wolf was immediately interested in after a year of celibacy. Well, almost a year! He’s still a young, new alpha, trying to fix the wrongs his father has done to this pack. But he gave in to this tempting little half human omega wolf!

This was such a great book! I wish Elizabeth has a lot more books and they all get audio releases! Her world building, framework, and character development are just out of this world!

Typical hero jerk trope

I read this one because I liked Maves story so well. Knox does change from an entitled, selfish, evil, creep who likes to bully others during sex by abusing his social power to an entitled selfish creep who abuses his social power to verbally attack, physically intimidate, and physically assault the heroine sexually without her prior consent or communication about what she finds acceptable during intimacy. He lives in denial and gaslights her about her legitimate right to assert her self-agency during intimacy. He does begrudgingly put up with some of this all while she is admitting how difficult it is for him to treat her as a person with her own desires and interests during intimacy as she begs him to let her have a small amount of input into how they have sex. He basically has difficulty being a decent person, communicating respectfully, or acknowledging her right to consent to intimate acts before he uses his physical bulk and coercion tactics to force his will on her. Ew.

She isn’t a submissive but supposedly, halfway through the book she finds his hero jerk behavior to be sexually attractive. I don’t buy it. Knox doesn’t just want her so much he’s a bully, he’s always been a selfish bully sexually speaking. He’s worse in this book because he verbally promises sexual violence constantly and it’s supposed to be attractive. It’s really creepy.

Aside from the above, Knox also brings up spanking to punish the heroine for acting like an adult with boundaries. Mave and Blake talk about it as a game but they never talk about using it as a tool to coerce the behavior of another adult with it. Spanking to modify behavior is done from an adult to a child, so when Knox verbally threatens to do this to Kady or actually hits her without her consent to force his will on her by infantilizing her during sex it’s perverted and abusive. She is of age, but treating her like a child during sex by spanking her to coerce her behavior brings up the theme of pediphilia. It’s really uncomfortable to read and made me want to throw up. I don’t think the author did it on purpose but I also don’t recommend most of the book.

Likes:
Learning more about everyone else.
The part of the plot wrapping up loose ends.

Dislikes:
Knox’s first conversation with Kady alone is verbally abusive and intimidating. I would have left then. I totally lost any interest in Knox’s redemption arc because he obviously hadn’t moved that far.

Having read the book to the end, I haven’t changed my opinion. Knox is still a creep in bad ways who shouldn’t be allowed to marry until he can respect the other person verbally and physically as much as he respects himself during intimacy. He rationalizes his bullying by saying it’s only for intimacy. So every non intimate relationship is redeemed, but the intimate partner who is the only one affected by that part of his life still gets bullied. Clearly Knox should just remain celibate until he can stop being abusive to his mate and then he would actually be redeemed.

I would have given any other author 2 stars, but she did well tying Mave’s story in to the plot. However, this book is really depressing. All of Knox’s really bad behavior takes place where no one but Kady sees it so none of the other nicer characters can tell him to stop, just like real abuse situations. Further, Kady doesn’t know enough to stand up for herself effectively, also like real abuse situations. I hope the series goes back to having the heroines set safe boundaries and leave when a hero is a creepy abusive jerk.

nearly perfect

This is a nearly perfect book … spoilers coming …

.
.

In book 1 - you’re a side character that rejects your mate because you think she’s an omega and it turns out she’s an alpha female but she mates with a human, by the end of the book you’re friends…

Your book, book 3- is ten years later… you fall for a girl that’s an actual half wolf-half human, omega wolf …

AND YOU DONT THINK ITS IMPORTANT TO TELL HER ABOUT THE LORE OF YOUR ORIGINAL FATED MATE?! … you take her to a pack meeting … where there are strong wolves that want to be your mate… AND YOU THINK NONE OF THEM ARE GONNA USE THAT INFORMATION???
Like… not just that… she’s friends with your original mate (even if you got rid of the mate bond) … I WOULD STILL NEED TO BE IN THE KNOW AND NOT BLINDSIDED BY SOME BITCHES
Like … I would be so mad … and they’re 29… she’s 23… they’re old enough with frontal lobes to know better …

When do shifters get their frontal lobes?
“It’s not okay, Mase,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. “This is the exact thing she was afraid of when she was resisting what was between us. And I let her be blindsided by it.”

EXACTLY IT WAS AN INSANE CHOICE
“I was an idiot to think no one would stoop that low to make Kady feel like shit for being with me,” I murmured, back to staring at the wall. “I thought that once I made it clear she wasn’t to be disrespected, everyone would at least pretend to be polite. I thought I had more time to… court her before I had to tell her about my past.”

“There is no one who thinks less of that group of top Pack girls than me, and even I didn’t think they’d go there. Not with you in the same Moons-damned room.”

Then you’re all dumb.

Which is crazy, cause the first 50% of this book, I’m just happy to be back with some of my favorite characters! We’re all having a good time and at 54% here comes Daphne… and the thing I’ll never get… WHY DIDNT THEY SEE IT COMING?! Like they knew these women were bad and jonesing for Alpha Mate… they’re all smart enough to know how the women are… so why.

“So, Daphne thinks she can scare my girl away, and I’ll somehow just fall for her instead?” I growled.
“Recall that Lena Montgomery literally tried to kill me to make Thad love her,” Ben replied with a humorless laugh, and even in the dim light I could see Thad reflexively clutch him tighter.

“And that Nikka kidnapped me and tried to ship me back to Utah so you’d pay attention to her,” Mave added. “We all know that you can’t trust a wolf fixated on something he or she wants, especially one of the powerful ones. They’ll stoop to almost anything because they believe they’re owed it.”

EXACTLY, they’re all idiots.

With the exception of the Mave and Knox reveal, it was a great book! The story is so good! The conclusion to this series is so great! I do wish this had gotten two epilogues to get more closure. I wish Bailey had been around more, because where did she come from?

Oh hey Knox AKA Ice Man! Who knew that Knox’s story would end up being one of my favorite feel good reads of the year? I certainly didn’t!

Knox: An Alpha’s Redemption Story (Blackstone Academy Book 3) by Elizabeth Dear

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

📝 Synopsis: Set 10 years after the main events in Mave & Ben Fortune’s books (you really *need* to read Mave Fortune and SHOULD read Ben Fortune—because it is awesome—before reading Knox), this book centers around Knox Monroe who became alpha of one of the largest packs in the US at only 19. The 29-year-old version of Knox we meet at the beginning of this book is one who has done the work to mature and atone for his past behavior— but he still exhibits some of the habits of his younger self. He has decide to swear off women for a year, around the end of this self imposed celibacy, he meets a lone wolf in Las Vegas and they share an anonymous night together. A few months later, that lone wolf—Kady—shows up as a new pack member in Knox’s pack and is also the new soccer coach at Blackstone Academy.

This was such an enjoyable read. The writing was right, the characters well defined and SO fun, and the emotional resolutions and conflicts were believable. I won’t say more about the circumstances of the maturity and growth of his character in case you haven’t read Mave Fortune or Ben Fortune, but I will say that I was surprised by how satisfying it was to see Knox earn his redemption. The author’s choice for the character to have an entire decade to really get his life together before finding real love was so, so smart. Speaking of… Kady! What a wonderful new character. She fit right in with the whole crew.

Here are some of my favorite things about this book:

⭐️ I loved the character nicknames used in the previous books, and the banter between Kady & Mave when Kady tells her the nicknames she gave Knox, Thad, & Mason made me laugh out loud

⭐️ A nice, concise plot with spice, action, and satisfying conclusions and wonderful chemistry among characters

⭐️ The relationship between Knox & Jack Fortune 🥺

⭐️ Side characters with well defined personalities and purposes

Knox: An Alpha’s Redemption Story was the book I didn’t know that I needed. The love shared among both old and new characters was a beautiful thing to read. I wanted to hug my kindle when it was all over and hold on to all of the feelings that the book evoked 🥰

DNF at 55%

Honestly, I wanted to like this one. I read Mave’s story when it first came out and remembered liking it a lot, so I decided to give this one a try. But I only made it 55% in before calling it quits.

MILD SPOILERS BELOW

I liked Kady for the most part, but I got a little annoyed at how easily she rolled over for Knox. I mean, the man didn’t work at all to get into her pants the second time, and it came right after Kady was treated disrespectfully by female members of Knox’s pack. Knox didn’t shut down those females for being all over him, which also felt disrespectful, even though I know that was because he didn’t want to let the pack know he was into Kady quite so soon to protect her. It still feels like a weak excuse.
Knox winning the soccer match? C’mon, it was so obvious that was going to happen, I just wish the author had chosen a different outcome.
I also don’t know what they seem to like about each about other, they haven’t really done anything that lets the other person actually get to know them. I just did not connect with either character very much, and especially not them together as a couple.
At this point in the book, Kady still doesn’t know that Knox and Mave were fated mates, which feels like a lie at this point. Kady is already at a disadvantage by not being raised in a pack and her new friends and love interest are keeping what feels like a secret from her? Idk I just think I would be upset and pissed to find out that everyone had been keeping important info from me.
Finally, I got super irritated with the pack in general and their whole ‘the strong are the best and the only ones worthy’ mentality that Knox apparently hasn’t done anything about in 10 years as Alpha? Lame, lazy, and doesn’t do anything to convince me he’s worth a damn as Alpha.
All in all, I was not convinced by the first half of the book to read all the way through, as I know I would’ve been increasingly dissatisfied with the story choices.

An incredible ride

First and foremost, it was a joy to see these characters 10 years into the future, who they are, the relationships they’ve formed with each other, and to just get a chance to hang out with them and watch them interact - I had so much fun reading them all together again.

Second, seeing Knox’s growth, without excusing his past bad behavior, is exactly what I had been rooting so hard for during Mave’s (and Ben’s by extension) book.

I always thought Knox was pretty relatable- a young guy who wasn’t ready for all of the responsibilities he’d be forced into and the expectations that had been thrust upon him his whole life, but who was also just an emotionally immature teenager who was often exercising poor judgment and making mistakes while he figured out who he was and what he stood for. I appreciate that he didn’t have an overnight metamorphosis but actually worked toward rehabilitating himself and his relationships with others over time, and learning and growing into the kind of person and leader I wanted to see him become. Honestly, it was amazing to see everything I had hoped for his character being delivered ten fold by this book. And that includes a great love interest - Kady.

I also liked the plot of the book and how preexisting loose ends were addressed - the conclusion kind of tied everything up so well.

Elizabeth Dear is a wonderful author. I know in the notes at the end she says she doesn’t consider herself a writer yet, but she should. I basically live on kindle unlimited and read tons of self published books, and I’m so grateful to have found hers. Her stories and characters make me so happy and definitely stand out. I’ve read all of her full length novels at this point, working on both novellas, and would read just about anything she publishes.

Too many loose threads

As a redemption story, this one is more than suitable. Knox becoming more humane and less entitled is definitely a win. There is just a bit too much left unsaid for me. A bit too many hints that go nowhere.

Kady is way too strong to be written off as just an omega. Regardless of size. Her power was never truly tested, and it's too well established that power can be hidden unless the individual decides to display it. Some of the smallest creatures in nature are the deadliest. The author missed a huge opportunity for Kady to be the true hero FMC that Knox needed.

Knox is WAY less horrific. Too bad it took several years for him to stop being a dirtbag and grow some frickin morals. There just isn't enough true redemption portrayed on page to entirely make up for the depth of his dirtbaggery in Mave's book. As a standalone, this book makes him a fantastic MMC. Unfortunately the series doesn't allow forgiveness quite so easily.

The side characters are solid in this entire series. Ben, Mave and Jack especially live up to their pasts. Harriet and Mason deserve way more attention and credit.

The million random threads that get ignored are infuriating. How did the leadership class never become a focal issue? That alone could and should have been a redemption topic for Knox.

The editing in this series is quite sloppy. The author tosses in the word natatorium like it's something everyone uses in daily life, but drops connecting words and verbs from sentences far and wide. She uses barred instead of bared in reference to teeth. It's just annoying and slowed my reading down because I had to keep doubling back and correcting what I stumbled over.

It is a very fast paced book. The humor, especially via Ben is fantastic. A bit more flesh to the MMC and a bit more attention to detail would go a long way.

really enjoyed this book, we pick up after Knox’s weekend away with the boys for his 29th birthday where he met Kady. She s running from an obsessive stalker and joining the pack was both an escape and fulfil a promise made to Monica, whom she met years ago when a child. She is shocked to find her mysterious man from her one night stand is her new alpha Knox. Sparks fly between the two and of course the jealous pack girls who consider her a lowly omega half wolf unworthy of him. Knox is under pressure to find a mate to secure the future of the pack which seems to be at odds with his love for Kady.
Kady and Know are both working as soccer coaches at school so get to interact plenty despite Kadys desire to keep a low profile.Hr realises that Kady is the one for him despite her being an omega which Maeve thinks is karma at it’s finest! The bitchy pack girls tell Kady about Maves reaction because Knox thought she was an Omega. It takes Kadys stalker attacking her in her home and Knox rescuing her for to forgive Knox and listen to his story of events.

We meet characters from the two previous books and catch up on their lives as well as spend more time in this book with the pack and see how well Knox is coping, The book ends with a challenge to his leadership, a confrontation between Knox and his dad and Kady finally meeting her dad.
This book definitely redeemed Knox who I hated in the first book for the majority of it. He has grown into his role, accepted his mistakes and owns them.
I would really love to see more stories from the pack, would love to see what a child of Maeve and Blake would be like and capable of.

Oh Knoxy Knoxy Knoxy. Boy did you worm your way into my heart.
Id already grown fond of Knox after he let Mave go in her book and honestly I was so excited to see him finally get his HEA.

Honestly I knew that that the Elite AlphaWhores would blab about the fated mate bond from Mave and Knox but I was still disappointed that neither he nor Mave made any attempt to tell her about it. I understand it’s 10 years Later and they probably no longer find it useful to inform people about it but like Kady I’d of been pissed especially because they all know how the elites are and should have know they would do that so should have pre warned her.

I loved Kadys family. Little Sam was adorable. Calling Knox MR President just made my day.
I had a feeling that her father would be part of the other Alpha pack that the pack were having issues with although I thought it was going to be the other Alpha not one of his batas but I am glad it was his bath because I really liked Ronin.

It was predictable Knox’s dad would turn up again at the end and I’m glad he finally got caught for his crimes and I’m glad Kady and Knox got their HEA and that she made him work for it. I’m sad we didn’t see more wolf pups in the story and they were just a fleeting moment at the end mentioning Masons new born and Harriet’s pregnancy. None of the main characters had had babies so I was hoping to see something in this book.

Not sure if I want to read Asher’s book he was good side character but I’d rather read Mason and Bailey and Harriet and her husbands story but the author made it clear she probably wouldn’t be writing these.

A great book again and I will keep the author on my watch list.

Knox (Blackstone Academy #3)
PNR MF shifter romance; multi-POV

I’ve said this before, I’m a sucker for a good redemption story and Knox’s journey was everything I could have asked for. I loved being back in the Blackstone Academy world and visiting with old friends and meeting new. Technically, Knox can be read as a standalone but I strongly recommend reading Mave and Ben’s stories first to have a better understanding of this world.

First, this book is more than a story of redemption. Knox is about transformation and growth, forgiveness and acceptance, and I truly appreciated the themes of tolerance and inclusivity woven throughout this book. It was clear right from the start that Knox’s character has come a long way and it didn’t take me very long to start rooting for him. Kady was the perfect choice for Knox and their relationship was the ultimate test for Knox on his personal journey.

Like in the previous books, strong friendships and family relationships reign supreme and it’s nice to see so many strong bonds among the main characters. There is definitely some mean girl pack drama that brings the angst but it’s pretty light compared to Mave’s book.

The plot is nicely paced with a few unexpected twists and turns along the way. There are also plenty of spicy scenes to heat up your kindle and also lots of laugh out loud moments, mostly featuring Mave and Ben.

I love these characters so much and am not ready to say goodbye. I’m thrilled that we’ll get an Asher novella and I’m excited for more from this incredible shifter world.

*sniffles with a sappy tear-stained face*

I love a redemption story. Knox's story isn't a grovel to the person who he wronged. No. It's a well-earned path to restoration with his pack, his friends, and the one he wronged the most, Mave. Here's what I mean.

We fast forward 10 years, which I absolutely love because we get to see where our beloved characters from previous books are now. Then, throughout the chapters, we get glimpses of how he has changed and evolved into a mighty fine Alpha leader who genuinely cares about his wolves, all of them. On top of that, we get to see him throw caution to the wind and chase down Kady, without caring one bit about who thinks it's proper or not, due to their unbalanced stations in the pack, THE Alpha and a half-wolf omega.

Kady endears herself to all our previous favorites: Mave, Ben, Harriet, Asher, Deacon, and even the parents of Knox's closest betas, and his own mother. She is a light everywhere she goes, and I adore her immensely. She's the perfect match for Knox, takes none of his crap but loves him with her whole heart.

Without spoiling things, one other thing that made me so happy is Kacey's reunion. I won't say more, but it made my heart do joyous backflips to see that work out for Kacey, Kady, and Sam.

Knox proves himself to be a wolf we can be proud of. He realized his mistakes, he saw how much his actions hurt people, and HE DID SOMETHING ABOUT IT. He put in the work to right his wrongs, and he deserves every bit of his HEA with Kady. Standing ovation for this whole series!

The bigger the a**hole, the greater the redemption arc

I have been waiting at the starting gate for this novel and inhaled it upon its release. It did not disappoint.
I'm so glad our dear author decided to write this unplanned novel because to be honest, when I finished Mave I was left somewhat dissatisfied and a little crushed. I absolutely loved Mave & Blake but was sad for Knox who had left himself out to dry.
Elizabeth Dear mentions at the start of this book that there was some criticism for fast forwarding ten years to allow for maturity to set in. To be honest this couldn't really have been done any other way as Knox had A LOT of growing up to do and it would have felt almost disingenuous if it came hot on the heels of his situation with Mave.
I did have some trepidation about Knox's squeeze, wondering if ED could possibly write another MFC that I liked as much as Mave, but my worries were laid to rest as she knocked it out of the park.
Now that I've just finished, I'm going to flip this metaphorical book straight back to the beginning and start again.
Thanks Elizabeth 😊

Enjoyable Read but found lacking

I enjoyed this book, it was an easy read and was great to have the other characters involved, love Ben, Thad, Mason, Mave and Blake as their banter is great fun. However, I was disappointed by the over all story, Kady is too much like Mave and I didn't really understand what made her different, they had a one night stand and she was half human, that was it. I think the writer missed a trick here, as it would have been great if Knox either met his match in terms of a powerful Alpha (perhaps arranged mating with another pack) who was not impressed with him, and he had to prove his worth rather than her falling in his lap, shoe on the over foot, playing dirty? or a quiet, shy, kind omega (total opposite, in personality and what he thinks he wants) who maybe worked as his PR/Secretary that he didn't really notice and took for granted until it was too late and realised she was exactly what was missing and needed in his life. Just wish Knox was still the bad boy, he was made too much of a softie in this book and I was left wanting afterall Everyone loves a bad boy!

Believable Redemption

I’m a huge fan of new author Elizabeth Dear and her Blackstone Academy Series. However, I was not a fan of Knox as he was introduced to us in Mave Fortune (book 1) so I was skeptical of this third installment being based around this most unlikeable character.

Safe to say that Elizabeth knocked it out of the park once again. Not only did this novice writer manage to write an incredible redemption story, she also managed to make it believable and authentic. By the end of the story I was not only impressed by Knox’s development, I was rooting for his HEA.

Loved this series, definitely recommend Knox (even if you were like me and kinda hated him in book one) especially since all the main characters are reunited and the new ones are equally as good (Kady is a close second to Mave and Ben on my faves list.)

I’m also eagerly awaiting Asher & Deacon’s novella. So glad I didn’t have to start a petition for that & that it’s already in the works. Thanks Elizabeth.

Fuck this series is so freaking good!!

I loved Mave’s story, I loved Ben’s story and I seriously loved Knox’s story! What a damn comeback from the absolute piece of shit fuckboy that he was to the outstanding and deliciously growly gentleman Alpha he became. I’m still drooling.

I bloody loved Kady too. The fact that she was a tough badass despite being classed as a “weak” Omega? Beautiful! I enjoyed watching her stand up to the Elite plastics and to Knox himself. It was a total joy seeing her come into her fighting spirit and say fuck you to her insecurities.

The side characters were once again amazing. It was great seeing interaction from all our old friends, and also seeing how they meshed with the new characters too. After reading about Mason and Sam and picking up on that bond, I definitely need more Daddy Mason content to soothe my kinky soul.

I honestly hope we get more out of this world from Elizabeth! She writes such amazing, in-depth characters, who I keep falling in love with, and I’m not really ready to say goodbye just yet. Fingers crossed!!

Really great follow up to this series! I had my doubts that Knox would be able to be sufficiently redeemed after how his character was in the first book. I was actually shocked that he was even getting a redemption book when I first saw it. The author really made him work for it. The time jump is super helpful for this because it really does give us a believable amount of time for him to mature. The story is interesting and I really liked the character development that we saw. The author’s writing has improved a lot between the first book and this one. This ended up being a really cute and sweet story which was honestly necessary to redeem Knox to the reader. I think most of his character development happened off page before we got to this story, so by the time we’re here he’s a totally different character that’s atoned for his past actions and is ready to start his personal life with a clean slate. It’s cool to think how know the Fortune’s really ended up changing the entire trajectory of his life for the better.

Ohmigod....
I haven't hated a character in the past as much as I did Knox. In Mave's book he was plain awful, similar to his father. Towards the end of the book he was slightly redeemed (I mean he had too...) but I never thought I would actually feel sorry for him and be an advocate of his relationship with Kady..
He falls in love with Kady (what a bada$$ heroine, one of the best ever!) and he simply choses to let go of all the hierarchy issues. His Little Wolf is his and only his.
I enjoyed (cue evil laughter) that he cried over her more than once and that he was so jealous. But he was never condescending or an hypocrite. Our boy grew ❤❤!!!
There are twists, characters from the past emerge to shake things up, Kady has to defend herself and her family more than once and shows how strong she is and how she gives zero b-ucks for the shenanigans of the higher-ranking females.
I absolutely loved this book... Can I give 6 stars?

Totally unexpected

I read the other two novels in this series and thought really a whole book about Knox... that would never be good. And yet again Elizabeth Dear proved me wrong. I loved this book. It was so much fun and it had me laughing my ass off. Her FMCs are always so awesome and Kady was the same. She was funny, confident and didn't take crap from all the haters. I literally hated Knox in Mave's book and couldn't imagine him being redeemable. As you read this book you remember that he was only 19 in the first book and people do grow with age. It was an interesting perspective and I loved him by the end. My only complaint is I thought the end was a little rushed. Would like to know what happened to some of the side characters (Olivia redemption and Daphne) as well as an epilogue with some kids and there powers.... Or maybe we could get another series with them! Either way I truly love all of her books. Keep them coming.
