Former US Marine, sometimes private investigator, oftentimes hit man for hire, Kellerman is as hard core as they come. Peppered into his life, Kellerman’s closest friend from the Corps and sometimes backup man is gay, his business associate is a Cuban mobster in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen and his girlfriend is a cop. When the three college boys who raped and left a young girl for dead are found innocent on a technicality, the girl’s father comes to Kellerman for justice. He gets it, Kellerman style. From first page to last, Kellerman’s seedy world in Hell’s Kitchen will leave you wanting more and Kellerman usually delivers with a dead body or two along the way. Checkmate is a hard core, action lover’s delight.
Al Lamanda was born and raised in The Bronx, New York. He worked for many years as a private investigator and crime prevention specialist. He has authored five published novels, two feature films with another under option and more than a dozen books for Kindle.
I rated this book four stars because it delivered the same fast-paced entertainment that readers expect from Mr. Lamanda. He is a master at crafting a story with just the right mix of comedy and mystery. Readers of Clive Cussler will gladly add this author to their lists.
Definitely a different kind of man in the reading for entertainment category. So much of the book reads like the Indiana Jones scene where the big raghead twirls his sword and Indy calmly pulls his gun and shoots him. Not a hero, but a good read.
A good, typical, American crime thriller novel. Not as brutal as some of the others of the same genre but gripping all the same! Takes an unexpected turn at the end...
