Jericho Quinn was sheriff on the Outer Banks of North Carolina until his lovely wife was found drowned in the ocean surf. That’s when his drinking and alcoholic blackouts started. His son Ryan, still in high school, had lost his mother and now his dad as well to empty whiskey bottles.

No longer the sheriff, Jericho’s good friend and chief of police found a job for him on the marine patrol. Soon thereafter, children went missing and Ryan’s girlfriend Susan Boyd was murdered. Ryan was the number one suspect. Jericho had to fight to stay sober, help find Susan’s murderer to clear his son and look for a serial kidnapper.

Endless suspense and drama kept me glued to the book as well as the North Carolina Outer Banks backdrop. Superb characters and unexpected twists and turns were abundant. The character based story and its familiar location made this book special. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I highly recommend it.

In the year after his wife's death, Jericho Quinn has fallen from Sheriff to black-out alcoholic. Now employed on the marine patrol, Quinn becomes enmeshed in the murder investigation of his son's girlfriend in which his son is the main suspect (which does require a suspension of disbelief that the police would allow a parent to be involved in an investigation involving their child, but it's easily done). As if that weren't enough stress, Quinn and his partner find the body of a girl and enter a race to save a missing girl before it's too late.

This well-written page-turner interweaves the twists and turns of the murder investigations with Quinn's attempts to turn his life around. As with most alcoholics before recovery, Quinn is not a likable character and Spangler paints him with all his warts. Despite that depiction of Quinn's failings, this reader found himself rooting for Quinn to solve the crimes, straighten out his life, and reconnect with his son.

You'll have to read the book to find out if that happens, and I suggest you do.

From the very start, Brian Spangler really gets you pulling for Jericho Quinn, a man who was so broken by the loss of his wife a year ago. Her loss has sent him into a downward spiral, fueled by alcohol. As if that wasn't bad enough, his teenage son Ryan is charged with the gruesome murder of his high school sweetheart. Jericho has to deal with his own drinking, as he fights to clear his son's name. But that's only the start.

Pull the safety bar down good and tight, because this roller coaster is about to take the first drop, and it won't be stopping until the last page. Just when you think that you have it all figured out...you don't.

No spoilers here. Read the book!

Wake up Jericho!!

In the Outer Banks, NC, life is idyllic…unless you’re former Sheriff Jericho Flynn. Jericho lost his way, and job, when his beloved wife accidentally drowned…by burying himself in ‘the bottle’. In fact, Jericho is sleeping off a bender…on the beach no less, when he receives word that his teenage son has been arrested for his gf murder! Now Jericho has to sober up and prove his son’s innocence before an overzealous DA throws the book at him. Lots of plot twists..,and, oh I so wanted to shake Jericho at times!! Excellent writing and narration. Looking forward to the next book.

I am actually glad I read the first Casey White book before this. I was not a fan of Jericho's in this book at first. I understand his wife passed, but he still had a son and and a job, never did explain really why he lost his post. I don't understand needing a drink so bad you risk everything. This turned out to be quite an intense book. Overall I did like it and look forward to more.

An incredibly well written thriller

Twists and turns are abundant and each and every one is believable! This is at times an emotional, heartwarming, infuriating and most of all exciting novel I couldn't put it down!

Great mystery story . Nice to read a story that doesn't need four letter words to fill the

Pages. Who is killing young women? Can the missing chlldren be connected? This story will be hard to put down. Great writing!

I read this one out of order and that is ok. Talk about twists and turns. Kept me up late at night and I was not disappointed. Very good book. The author is descriptive, great story line, and it is those surprises that get you and keep you going.

I really enjoyed this and hope someday there will be more in the series. The alcoholism was realistically depicted although I’m really ready for him to stay clean and leave the drinking behind for good. The murders were also fascinating with a couple of big twists at the end.

wow!

Once I got started I could not put the book down. It was great to read Jericho’s story, after reading the series of Casey White, and I was hoping to get more Casey White series, but this will do. Absolutely gripping!

Wished I had DNF it at about 60%. Up to that point, the author had me with his portrayal of a blackout drunk (thus perhaps making the book worthy of 2.5 stars). From that point, however, the “seriously?” moments were too much. For instance, someone has their arm broken and not only doesn’t it prove an impediment, there isn’t even the mention of a cast. Someone else goes haring off into danger at any opportunity and no one asks, ‘Is he doing it again?” And then there’s the identity of the villain. That was fairly obvious by about the halfway point. So, nope, I won’t be reading Book 2. And, yes, the appearance of the words “Book one” on the cover more than suggests that the hero wasn’t in life-threatening danger at any point.

I tried, I really tried. The story could've been so good, but after a while it is tiresome to read about Jericho Quinn and his demons. He is not a very likable character, perhaps that was my problem? I don't know. I know that I should like this book, it's right up my alley, but it kind of rubbed me in all the wrong places.

(Please forgive my poor English, my excuse is I’m Swedish).
