This is one of our favorite Eric Carle books. It's a Christmas book about how people celebrate Christmas. The illustrations are beautiful and it's a simple read that ends with the arrival of Santa. Children will enjoy searching for the hungry caterpillar who appears everytime you turn the page-if you'll only look!

Texturen voelen kut en het verhaal gaat nergens over. De rups eet niet eens iets.

Another nice instalment. Doesn’t rival the first by a long shot, but has some nice flaps, particularly the Christmas tree.

Not a lot of substance or anything much new here, but it's a cute little volume that is rather perfectly-sized for small hands. This would be a nice gift for an Eric Carle fan of any age, as it incorporates some characters and ideas from his other books. Suggested as a good gift or stocking-stuffer for the VHC or Carle fan in one's life. This could also work as a jumping-off point/inspiration for some painted-paper collage art for holiday cards or gift wrap, a project idea for kids or adults that creates a useful end result.

Thanks to the publisher for providing a review copy.

It was okay. For some reason, I kept expecting it to rhyme - even when I'd already realized it wasn't a rhyming book.
The illustrations are exactly what you'd expect from Eric Carle, with the added bonus of a hidden caterpillar to search for.
Very secular Christmas book, which also sort of caught me off guard - I thought the last page after "we wait in peace" was going to be about "for the miracle" or something, but it was Santa. So it's clearly intended for people who celebrate Christmas, but NOT for the people who get angry at Starbucks cups.

This is the perfect book for kids who are old enough to finally get into the festive Christmas spirit. While there are illustrations with lots of presents, including the front and back flyleafs, the simple text reminds readers of the other wonderful aspects about the holiday season - love, giving sharing, joy, playing in the snow, and of course, eating tasty seasonal delights. Carle has captured all this in simple illustrations done in his signature collage style of layering brightly colored hand-painted papers, so that each color is really saturated with brightness. Kids already familiar with the very hungry caterpillar will enjoy being guided though this book by a favorite, familiar friend.

This little book is as cute as traditional Christmas candy.

Goodreaders, when you grew up did you eat some of those super-colorful little hard candies?

Well, this little book is as cute as traditional Christmas candy. Only, in the opinion of this Goodreads book reviewer, this book tastes much better. As it were.

You'll see the meaning of Christmas, from a child's perspective: Absolutely the best summary I've seen yet in a picture book.

FIVE STARS and applause to Eric Carle.

As loving the hungry caterpillar original book as a kid, I found this book decent compared to the original book. It has interesting pictures, but I felt the story did not really make sense. It did not really convey the story how I expected it. It was a decent book, but I don't think I would read it again

I read the Very Hungry Caterpillar when I was a kid. I was expecting it to be about the caterpillar celebrated the holiday season, not just showing up on the page.

Artwork looks the same, and very colorful.

A friend gave this book to Lily for Christmas. Simple words about the joy of Christmas--not really classic like the original Caterpillar, but a pretty little book. Lily loves to look at the presents on the endpapers and learn the colors.

Whilst there was a bit of Santa Claus through this book I also liked that it touched on the joy of giving not just reviewing gifts. A very simple but well done book

Gorgeous illustrations, but the story is a bit off. It keeps wanting to be on track, but it's not quite there.

This little book is adorable. Little children will love it. Is cute, and talks about Christmas. The illustrations are nice. I like this book :) . A book for children on Christmas Day. I also like the cute cover. Of course, there is also a very hungry caterpillar. This is not a typical children's story, rather it is a story about what we do at Christmas. This book can be a nice Christmas gift for your child to read.
