Leira's in a new town and this time she's making up the rules.

Leira Berens has split with the Feds and is hunting magical monsters with Correk and a certain troll by her side.

Magic is on the loose and the shifters, Elves and Witches are causing trouble.

But is Wolfstan Humphrey the most dangerous one of all?

Harkin may hold the key to solving part of that riddle. Will it be in time to help Silver Griffins survive what's coming?

There are whispers among the dark Wizarding families that Leira's a new kind of bounty hunter. They'd like to put a target on her back.

Time to show them all how it's done. They'll never see her coming.

Okay, I'm a late bloomer who's a big DC comics fan and spent my childhood summers on the Jersey shore but I was born under a wandering star and have lived in different parts of America ever since. That's enough about me. Need to feel inspired today? Looking for something to make you root for an ordinary hero? I'm all about that in everything I write.

I love a good tale that makes me wonder about things and I love a story even more that leaves me feeling inspired or like I'm capable of doing more than I realized. That's my goal with everything I've ever written. Some of the stories I tell involve twisting, turning thrillers and others have a lot of magic.

There's something to be said for getting lost in another world and coming out the other side feeling a little better about yourself or the possibilities in front of you. That's basically the best part of life in a nutshell, no matter what kind of story I'm setting out to tell.

Thank you for checking out my stories!

Confused? Welcome to my world.

After a long time of no new Leira Berens stories, and hints from other tales from the future world, we are thrust into her life again. Just a short time after the end of her previous series ended. Embroiled in the beginning of the battles with the Dark Families and the rise of Correk, the new Fixer. A good read.

Freaking Awsome!!!!

Love the re-boot with new storylines and characters.

If you read the previous version, it was set a year after book 8, but this new and improved book is set only a few weeks later just as Leira, Correk and YTT are settling into their new lives in DC.

Full of action (and tears), new storylines and characters. YTT makes new friends and keeps finding Correk's stashes of junk food, much to Correk's dismay- he's just amazing.

Loved it. Want more, but I have to wait a month for the next one.

Things have changed a lot for Leira since the previous book.

She now lives in Washington DC with Correk and Yumfuck, where they are restoring a town house to live in.

Leira has left the FBI to work for herself, and Correk is almost fully trained as a Fixer, and so their live are busy with work, but also with building their new relationship together.

They've met their new neighbours - a young couple like themselves - well, sort of, anyway, and they are doing their best to keep the war with the Old Families, who follow a Darker Path than they do.

But Wolfstan Humphreys is making things ever harder for Leira, and with him getting Lucius to aim for Leira all the time, the tensions mount ever quicker.

But Lucius has his own ideas and, as he dominates everyone, especially within the Old Families that have always followed a Darker Path, then he's causing Leira and her friends just as many problems.

As Lucius is still doing Wolfstan's will, it seems he has more of a chance to succeed, especially if he can rid himself of Leira, using the younger members of the Old Families.

But when the war between them and Leira breaks out, nobody knows for certain who will win.

This was yet another great story, and kept me locked to the pages until I finally reached the end.

So much is happening, especially between Leira, and so many different groups, and the tension is upping all the time.

There were deaths, and illnesses, and so many of the people that Leira loves, seem to be in constant danger from both Lucius and Wolfstan, and she's finding it ever harder to face the risk of losing any of them.

But both Leira, and Correk, know that the only way to stop this, is by taking down Wolfstan - even with Lucien playing his part in protecting him!

With this book finished, it's now on to Book Ten: 'Rise of Magic', which sounds very promising - so I'm now off to set it up on my Kindle, then I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think about it!

4 The Great Ordeal Of Meeting Me Stars

Defender of Magic us the ninth book in The Leira Chronicles series by Martha Carr and Michael Anderle.

Ugh, I really was hoping Lucius and the Dark Families wouldn't team up. This is what prejudice gets you. If the Silver Griffins or Leira had gone to Lucius, and offered an olive branch to bring down the Dark Families together they wouldn't be facing an even worse future of possibilities. The young Witch left it a little vague, saying she'll defend all magicals, but I don't believe for a second they'll miraculously become better people.

Lacey's death was a shock. Honestly, the scene didn't even do her justice, when she died, it was anticlimactic. Lacey's character deserved more than that. It's nice to know at least the Silver Griffins won't fall into bad management without her, with Lois at the helm there's nothing to fear in that regard. Although, I am still concerned about that Erickson guy, and possible the guy he sidled up next to at Lacey's funeral..

Underwood's base in D.C. is magically amazing! So many miraculous sights just waiting behind closed doors. Leira, Correk, and Yumfuck are building their own new home and making interesting friends in the neighborhood. Louie has possibly found a slice of heaven all his own, and a little precious romance to go along with it.

I hope that Lily Sharpton will survive going undercover in the lions den that is the Fleeker corporation. We need every advantage we can get to bring down Wolfstan Humphrey, and Sirius, for all that they've done and conspire to do.

Applause! This book was much better than previous ones in the series. Set later in time (unknown amount) the book feels like the start of something new while also feeling like the continuation of something larger. It was well written too outside of a lack of detail and coordination between scenes.

The good: Excellent story writing here, and fun characters make the story a joy to read. You have old faces from the previous books and new faces from this section of the story. What stands out is the fact the character growth seems real. That is a strong point for the author(s) in particular I’ve noticed.

The bad: Well, still not the best written book. In fact, I’ve deducted a star because sometimes things just happen, with no warning or even a scene showing that the character arrived. There was also a lack of detail to a certain degree that was aggravating.

Overall, better than the first portion of the series. With more character growth and better coordination of story it felt right. Hurray, sticking with the series is turning out finally.

Sad

People keep dying. I think the home team needs s big win, instead of just several losses. Something good needs to happen or this is gonna be a drag moving forward. I mean, we have dragged this Wolfstan situation out for six books. Everyone knows her bad and that experiments are happening and where. Not sire why they haven't moved on that building. Ok, all that being said the books are still interesting. Leira is supposed to be all kick butt with magic, but she throws fireballs like everyone else.
Series must be read in order.

Again, clearly, Loved It!

Wow, another amazing installment. This one made me cry. There was a scene between YTT & a blind gentleman on a park bench. They were talking about grief. It was during the gentleman's take on it that the tears began. When they stopped, I was surprised to find that a weight had been lifted. For that, I owe you my gratitude. I will pay it forward, in your name, more than once. That was a wonderful scene. Thank you.

I really enjoy these stories and am looking forward to new episodes to come! This book picked up where the original left off. If you are just starting this series go back and start at the beginning to get all the back story. Don't get me wrong, this book stands on it's own and is definitely worth the read. I can't wait for the next volume.

Ok

See reviews for the rest of the series. It's just ok. It's perfectly readable, with a lot of characters and not enough detail to really keep me gripped. Bit slow to get to the crux of the series.. but hopefully the next one (the last I think) will see it through and I can try something else!

Really enjoying this series

This is one of the more fun series that I have read in the last few years. I really like all the different characters in this universe and really like and enjoy every book in it so far. I recommend this book as well all of the books set in this universe.

Riveting story hard to put down

Leira has become a character that grows on you more and more. Her drive and ethics her struggles, pain, loss, love and battles... All set in mostly urban fantasy settings with alot of lovable and hated characters. Well written and worth the time investment... Love this series

And again

As far as I am concerned Martha Carr and Michael Anderle can do no wrong when it comes to creating characters and universes. Just look at the two bigger ones, Oricersan and KUG. I've read a lot of books in both and have never been disappointed. So keep reading and enjoy.

Love

Love this series of books and cannot wait till the others come out so I can continue the adventure with Leira, Correck, Yumfuck, and now Lily! Was happy that Correck was able to clear his father's (Harkins) name for the murder of Fraen!

I can’t say enough about this series.

I love the Leira chronicles. This series has it all, elves, witches, trolls and shifters. There is an odd obsession with doughnuts and assorted costco sized snack foods but that adds to the humor. Can’t wait for more in this series.

Getting to the deeper meaning

Leira now has an extended family she never knew about. She has others fighting the bad duds with her. It is like peeling an onion to see what the next layer will bring.

Leira is offered a job by the Fixer in DC. Correck is the new Fixer. The challenges keep Leira and Correck busy.

I just realised that this is not the original version of the book, but has been remade with new storylines and such.
Unfortunately, this book was a little bit boring.

WTF?? Is there a book 8.5 I missed?

I read books 1-8 in a boxed set. I was looking forward to this one. Suddenly there is a new bad guy I have never heard of before!?!? Two other previously unmentioned characters are referenced as cannon??? If it wasn't for Yumfuck I would be done with this.
