Kait Nolan's Before Highland Sunset, Book One in her new Special Ops Scots series, is a fast paced, suspenseful, romantic read I couldnae put down!
So much going on:
The heartbreak of being ghosted by the one Ciara was so sure was "the one", followed by a breakup with an increasingly menacing stalker...
The shock of Alex finding out that the "Before Sunrise" woman he was willing to change it all for is actually his buddy's little sister...
Accidental happenings that may not be accidental, a past that will not be outrun...
It's an exciting, must read, engrossing, romantic suspense story full of love, loss, longing and loyalty, brimming with steamy chemistry, intrigue and danger, set in the Scottish Highlands, complete with a castle, weddings, scones and beloved side characters from Kait's Kilted Hearts series.

This book was the perfect introduction to the Special Ops Scots and a fantastic bridge with the Kilted Hearts series. I could not put this book down. After meeting Alex and Ciara in the prequel novella, I knew I needed to learn how their story would ultimately turn out. Parts of this roller coaster ride I expected, but there were so many twists and details that I never saw coming. All the chemistry of the prequel was still sizzling away between this pair, and the added danger amped it up to eleven. It broke my heart to see them when they struggled, but it made me positively giddy to watch when it was all going right. And at the end of it all, the teaser for the next book has left me a little desperate to get my hands on it as soon as it’s available.

These Scots know how to get it done! WOW!!! This book had me wishing I had time to just sit down and read it all in one day. I couldn’t wait to find out what was really going on with Ciara. She and Alex were great together, but they weren’t really…were they? What a great addition this is to the series. So happy to find the characters from previous books involved in trying to solve the mystery. While there was suspense constantly, there was also plenty of spicy romance. Great job pulling it all together Ms Nolan!

The book was okay. I did not hate it, nor did I really like it. I do not like first person. But, at least there was POV between the two main characters instead of just one. Why did the author have to change from third person?
I have been to Scotland many times, but I was not familiar with all of the Scottish slang. It would have been helpful to have had a list of terms at the beginning or end of the book so I could flip to it. I had to stop reading and look up the terms on my phone which was irritating.
I did not read the teaser at the end. I hate it when authors include one. But at least it was separate from the main story and gave the reader the choice to read or not.

Well, this was a little bit of a disappointment. I really liked the prequel, and LOVE second chance romances, so the anticipation for this one was high.
Overall, there wasn’t anything particularly wrong. It just fell a little flat for me. We also had the “brother’s best friend/best friend’s little sister” trope here - which I generally don’t like, but I liked how that storyline plays out here. So I’m not sure why I didn’t love this one. I just know I didn’t.

Love, danger and forever
Alex and Ciara’s brother best friend, second chance, healing small town romance with a side of stalker danger will give you all the swoony swoons while also pulling at your heartstrings with all the emotions. It had the perfect balance of humor, heartwarming love, real life issues, danger, and spice. The slow ratcheting up of the danger and suspense was so well done in this story that I felt like the proverbial frog in the boiling pot - not aware of how tense it was becoming until it was undeniable. Alex retired from the Royal Marines three years ago. He’s been working in construction since but now he’s in the small village of Glenlaig with his former military mates starting an adventure company. Ciara is from Glenlaig and is working at Ardinmuir Event Planning. She is also the little sister of one of Alex’s best friends from the military. Three years ago Alex and Ciara met on a train and had a steamy 24 hours together. Following that, despite promises of something else, Alex ghosted Sierra for reasons. Now that they’re both in the same town, Alex is trying to avoid Ciara at her request. But when Ciara‘s ex-boyfriend won’t leave her alone, Alex agrees to be her fake boyfriend until he gets the message. Of course, there were already real feelings before the “fake relationship“ started and it gets hard to keep those feelings in the pretend box where Ciara really wants them to stay. This is especially true once the danger to Ciara escalates. To get to their HEA, there will need to be truth telling and baggage unpacking, and trust rebuilding all the while trying to solve the mystery of how much danger Ciara is in and who is behind it. This well written story included engaging dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and a captivating storyline. I am looking forward to reading more in this series.

Ciara has returned to Glenlaig and is working as an event planner at Ardinmuir Castle. She is trying hard to avoid her ex-boyfriend who is desperately trying to convince her it’s not over by using not wonderful means. Alex returns to Glenlaig to begin an outdoor adventure business with his mates from the Royal Marines now that they are all separated from their service. It was inevitable they would run into each other again and sparks fly when they do.
Alex has some baggage, but he has never stopped loving Ciara. She has sought the spark they shared since he left her but has never found anything close. I loved how quickly he stepped in to help her with her problem ex. I appreciated that she didn’t make it easy for him. They face some danger along the way to their happy ending. But her brother, Ewan, Finn, and Collum work with Alex using their military skills to save the day.
I loved the light suspense element, the passion between Alex and Ciara, and the fabulous continuation of the friend/family group which began in Kilted Hearts. Well written with likeable characters, suspense, hot times, and romantic tenderness: this is another winner.

We find ourselves back in Glenlaig with a host of familiar characters for any who have read the Kilted Hearts Series. But we also get a whole host of new characters to fall in love with. What better to draw you in than a bunch of alpha ex-military fellows who might just needs some loving. I love that the author makes me feel like I have taken a trip to the Highlands as I read.
Alex is about to start the after miliary phase of his life with his mates who he trust with everything incuding his life. In a new town, with a new business but he also knows that "the one that got away" is also there. Will he get a chance to apologize and make things right. Or will he have to just watch her from the sidelines?
Ciara has tried to move on and forget her one night of passion and more from three years ago. She has tried to forget how he made her feel and look for a life with someone new. But in a small town where you know everyone, that gets to be a little bit of a task. When she realizes that her one night stand is moving to town, she is not ready to let go of her anger. When she finds herself needing help, she turns to Alex to be that guy. Can she understand his reason for leaving and not returning?

Quick pace, suspense, and emotion.
This second-chance, brother’s best friend, fake-relationship romantic suspense is quick-paced, emotional, and suspenseful. The characters are well-developed, and I loved their strength and vulnerability. Alex is my kind of hero! He’s protective, a bit grumpy, and such a cinnamon roll underneath, especially when he falls for the kitten. Ciara is willful, self-sufficient, and smart. When Alex ghosted her 3 years before, but suddenly shows up in her hometown to stay, she isn’t going to let him get under her skin again. Alex knows her walls are up and is determined to get past them or will have to learn to live without the woman he’s fallen head-over-heels for.
I love the town of Glenlaig Kait Nolan created and the quirky people who live in it. She brought a new cast of highly skilled, delicious, and mysterious characters to her Kilted Hearts world, and I was so happy to see cameos from the people of that fabulous series. I enjoyed the dialogue between Alex and his friends, and the banter between Alex and Ciara. It was fun and natural. The suspenseful aspect kept me guessing and turning the pages. Every Kait Nolan character and story I’ve met I’ve devoured and loved Alex, Ciara, and Before Highland Sunset are a great beginning to a new series!

This is book one in the great new Special Ops Scots series. There is a prequel ‘One Fine Night’, where we meet Ciara and Alex and their first meet/back story. I would highly recommend reading that first, although this book gives you the info you need, but it is a fab read all of its own.
We start this book 3 years later, after Ciara has been ghosted by Alex, and yet due to the depth of their first connection, he is not forgotten. Alex has retired and with two of his former teammates (all former Royal Marine Special Ops operatives) and they have moved to a new town to open a business, where their old squadron leader (Ciara’s older brother) and Ciara lives.
When they meet again, the connections and chemistry are still so strong, and despite Ciara’s anger there is something between them that cannot be denied. When Ciara needs help, Alex immediately steps forward.
This story is a fabulous romantic suspense, with wonderful characters, sizzling romance and enough intrigue to keep you guessing through all the twists and turns. It is a great fast paced exciting read. And if you want more of these characters and can’t wait for the next book, then check out the brilliant ‘Kilted Hearts’ series.

This is a second chance romance with a bit of suspense thrown in. When Alex and Ciara first met their attraction was instant and felt big. Alex gave up on a future with Ciara to rid the world of some very bad guys and when he was done he convinced himself it would be better and safer for her to stay away from Ciara. Ciara believed Alex was her soul mate and then he disappointed her by ghosting her. She has not stopped looking for a partner but also not willing to give herself fully to anybody the way she did with Alex. Alex had to learn that Ciara is very capable of looking after herself and it’s not all on him to solve the world’s problems. Ciara had to find her confidence for herself and demand what she deserved. She is not just the little sister or cousin of the family.
Loved checking in with the Glenhaig family once again and how ready they are to look after each other at any way possible.
Loved that Ciara had found a group of young girlfriends where she was not the little cousin or young friend.
Getting to know the Finn and Callum was fun and the brotherhood between them was very cool.
I see a whole of stories to come but can’t wait for Callum’s story which is up next.

But instead of finding a new romance she found someone that won't accept that she just isn't interested anymore. When she needs a bit of help, Alex steps in. But, can she let their fake relationship turn real when he hurt her so badly before?
With Ciara in danger, Alex plays the bodyguard as well as her fake boyfriend. But is there more than an ex causing problems for Ciara? What happens if Alex's past isn't done with him yet?
Before Highland Sunset is all about forgiveness and second chances. It’s got a bit of angst, but not too much, a suspenseful plot and all the romance you could want! There are so many hurt feelings and I loved that the author made these characters work through them before jumping back into a romance. Ciara is sassy and independent and knows what she wants. Alex is loyal and knows he made a mistake thinking he was protecting Ciara. I enjoyed his hacking and investigative skills. The plot flowed nicely and it was lovely to see characters from the original series as well as new characters being introduced. 5 stars!

Perfect Start to New Series in Scottish Highlands with Wonderful Characters, Romance and Suspense
This series takes us back to the Scottish Highlands setting with many of the characters from the Kilted Hearts Series (you don't need to read the series to enjoy this one but I do highly recommend it). It also picks up three years after the Before Sunrise novella (again not necessary to read but highly recommended). Now that Alex and Ciara have settled into town and begun their chosen careers the spark and attraction is still there when they meet again, but can Ciara get over Alex "ghosting" her when all of the sudden she needs protection from ??. No plot spoilers here but I did not put it down and read it in one day. The book was perfectly written with well developed characters who had heat, banter, independence (Ciara) and warmth - Alex (cinnamon roll hero with kittens - swoon). The suspense and mystery was well done and kept me guessing until the end. And of course I loved the glimpse into my faves from the Kilted Hearts series. I can't wait for the next one - Enjoy!

This series takes us back to the Scottish Highlands setting with many of the characters from the Kilted Hearts Series (you don't need to read the series to enjoy this one but I do highly recommend it). It also picks up three years after the Before Sunrise novella (again not necessary to read but highly recommended). Now that Alex and Ciara have settled into town and begun their chosen careers the spark and attraction is still there when they meet again, but can Ciara get over Alex "ghosting" her when all of the sudden she needs protection from ??. No plot spoilers here but I did not put it down and read it in one day. Alex and Ciara had one amazing night but when he ghosts her, she takes that beautiful night and turns it into a warning for herself. Three years later and Ciara returns to her small town to work at the local castle. Her determined ex wants to make her "see sense" and come back to him but his behaviour is devolving steadily into stalker behaviour.
Enter Alex to save the day. He proposes acting as her fake boyfriend to fob off the ex. But can it really be fake when they both clearly still have feelings and intense chemistry!
Glenlaig is a beautiful setting for this story. I'm Scottish and have travelled widely in this "area" and although the geography and town may be made up, the vibes are very real! I'm ecstatic that Alex is an ex-Marine as my family is full of them and I could just picture them rocking up to Alex's business and yomping over the hills, lol.
They both have some baggage but Alex also has to overcome that fear of "what will her brother do to me!
Steamy romance with alternating POV's which really let you see inside the characters head. The wee cameos from some of the Kilted Hearts characters really tied them all into the same wee world!

After reading One Fine Day I said to myself “Dam that was a tasty tease and what I have to wait till oct?!”. But I know it will be worth the wait. Well Kait did not disappoint.
I loved seeing what all the residents of Glenlaig are up to, it’s like visiting your extended family.
After Alex ghost it Ciara three years ago, she’s tried to Move on. Her professional life is going strong, but that can’t be said about her love life. As amazing and strong Alex is , he is riddled with guilt and complications from his pass. Alex moves to Glenliag to a start a business with his mates. He thinks Ciara is the only thing from his pass he has to deal with. Can Alex and Ciara over come the feeling/hurts that formed after they met 3 years ago? Will the connection be as amazing as that night? Will friendships be destroyed or deepened?
You do not want to miss this second chance romance with intrigue, suspenses, and sizzle. Don’t forget to read the prequel One Fine Day. It starts out sweet, followed by steamy, and ends with a doozy of a hiccup .

Before Highland Sunset is the first book in a new series called Special Ops Scots. This is Alex and Ciara's story. Alex and Ciara take you on an emotional rollercoaster with a twist of a little mystery/suspense mixed in. When Alex and Ciara first met their attraction was instant and felt big. After three years of ghosting, Ciara tried to Move on. But suddenly Alex shows up in her hometown to stay, she isn’t going to let him get under her skin again. Alex agrees to keep his distance as much as he can in the small town. When Ciara needs his help from her ex, Alex agrees to a fake relationship. You need to read this book to find out what happens to them. This story is filled with some twists and turns, romance, a bit of danger and of course, romance. The suspense had me hooked on this book. I couldn’t put it down, needing more! I highly recommend it. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

Entertaining story of second chances and best friends' sister. They had a one-night stand 3 years ago,
and the H made promises but didn't keep them. It took a while for the H to confess why he left the way he did.
Shades of military friends who get out of the military and form a company together in a town, only tie they have is an ex-commander.
I enjoyed the comradery between the friends. Nasty villain is known soon, but he isn't the only villain.
Some tension, suspense, violence, twists, great main and secondary characters, HEA, lovemaking outside of marriage - heat level 4 out of 5. Filled with passion and love, romance builds slowly. Two secondary couples are in same sex relationship, but nothing is acted on in this story. Story ended at the 90% on my e-reader, rest teaser for other stories. Crude words used many times.
I enjoy this author, whether she writes under this name or Hannah Shield. I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you extra tidbits to decide whether to purchase. (ljb)

Two things are guaranteed when reading Kait Nolan's books: once started you can't stop until finished, and you'll get that swoony Happily Ever After.
I love this new romance series with mystery and action thrown in. The author is very good at making her characters look over their shoulders and keeping the suspense until the end.
I like confident, take-charge chicks as much as every modern woman, but no matter how independent a girl you are, you can't tell me a strong, capable protector rescuing kittens doesn't make your heart melt. I just thought Alex should have had to do a lot more grovelling to get Ciara back!
I already fell in love with Glenlaig in the Kilted Hearts series. Now that tall, dark & dangerous have moved in, I'm seriously contemplating to relocate to this loveable town with this quirky characters... Can't wait to see grouchy Callum fall at his Sunshine's feet next ~ hurry up Kait!

Ciara was ghosted by Alex after a one night stand three years ago, and is still hurt by how things ended. Unfortunately, Ciara gets involved in various dangerous incidents and Alex suspects that it is related to his past. I loved it when Alex goes on protector mode and goes all out for Ciara. Bodyguard Alex is so attractive!
Both Alex and Ciara have their own amazing group of friends and I loved how they are so close and would drop everything when needed to help each other out. An excellent example of the found family trope!

I love Alex and Ciara and connected to them right away. I also love reconnecting with characters from her Kilted Hearts series, but you don't have to read the series beforehand to enjoy this one. There are also some suspenseful moments that kept me reading longer than I should have at night. This is an awesome second chance romantic suspense story.

I love being back in Glenlaig, the small Scottish town where Ms. Nolan’s previous series, Kilted Hearts, was set. This new series is connected through those characters and book one features Ciara and Alex, who shared a sexy one night stand in the prequel novella One Fine Night (not necessary to read, but it adds to just “hearing” about their meeting 3 years ago.
Ciara is surprised when Alex comes to her little town, more so when she realizes he’s friends with her older brother. Alex regrets ghosting Ciara but comes to her rescue when an ex doesn’t want to accept their breakup.
Ciara is stubborn and unforgiving at first, but the sweet and steady Alex isn’t about to give up. Their fake relationship develops into real feelings, while some surprises are unveiled along the way. These two were the perfect pair to begin the Special Ops Scots series. I can’t wait until the next story comes out!

This is my first book by Kait Nolan and I definitely enjoyed it. Alex and Ciara take you on an emotional rollercoaster with a twist of a little mystery/suspense mixed in. They met 3 years ago but Alex was given a mission he could not turn down. Turns out Alex is Ciara’s brother’s best friend. Alex has some explaining to do of why he never called or sent a message. Ciara is wary about his intentions but she’s also dealing with an obsessed ex that is not getting the hint. Alex happens to see her try to get away from her ex and steps in as her fake boyfriend. But their connection is anything but fake and the steam is nowhere near sizzling out even after the time apart. Things aren’t easy and there’s more than just an obsessed ex putting them on edge. Kait Nolan knows how to hook you and keep you hooked. Enjoyed Ciara and Alex and can’t wait for more of these Scots to come.
